The amount of salsa we were expected to share
    China B.

I went with a friend to lunch. When we arrived we got a table right away. They even accommodated my friends request to sit in a different area. Our server was very nice and helpful. She made us feel welcomed. I ordered the shrimp chimichangas and my friend had the chicken fajitas. The fajitas came out piping hot and looked good. My friend enjoyed them. My shrimp tacos were covered in cheese and were tasty. The shrimp was very scarce though. It seemed like they took 3 shrimp and chopped them into pieces and filled the rest in with onions and peppers. I just would have appreciated more meat. The salsa was very loose. It was actually hard to scoop onto the chips. It tasted ok, but was slightly bland. The waitress was nice and brought us some extra because it was hard to share the small amount we were given at first. I do wish they offered rice and beans with the meal, but unfortunately you only get one or the other. Also their menu gives a description, but not enough info. The waitress kept looking at the menu but it didn't show how many or everything that came with each item. So it was a bit confusing. Several people came by and asked if everything was ok. The staff was friendly. The restaurant has an authentic Mexican vibe and colorful decor. There's plenty of seating and 2 sides to the restaurant. So it seems good for groups. The food was ok and the prices were reasonable. Check them out!!

    Tamales with chips and salsa

My friend brought me here, she loves their tamales. There tamales are served with an enchilada sauce and I wasn't sure if I would like them so I got the beef flautas. I asked for hotter salsa and they brought em the house hot sauce which was great!! The flauatas were great! I thought they were going to be ground beef and was pleasantly surprised that they were a shredded beef. The queso & guacamole that come with it are great additions. The beans and rice were good too. I got tamales to go for my fiancé and he really enjoyed them. It's also great they included a bag of chips & salsa with my to go order. I'll try them next time!! Definitely a great spot for yummy mexican food!!

I use to eat here all the time when I worked at town center I'm over here training for class. Decided to give them a try today. Gonna see what it's worth. I got the lunch number two off their lunch menu, which is a value meal found out that they now only give you a half a bag of chips with their salsa and white sauce, it came with a burrito beans and fries. It kinda looked like they threw everything in the pan together pictures to come.

Cozy place. Very efficient service. Ask for more salsa and the white dip, you get it no questions asked. I ordered taco mazatlan which is fish tacos. It was really good, fresh and well seasoned. Also recommend their flan and churros (stuffed with caramel) - they were yummy I forgot to take a picture! Will definitely come back to try other menu selections!

I think what I have enjoyed most about this eatery is that the service is great, the food itself is flavorful and plentiful, the restaurant itself is clean and inviting, and I always leave feeling like I have truly enjoyed a nice lunch out! They have truly made it through many years tried and true as being a very good Mexican eatery....and still enjoy coming back to when I am back in my own stomping grounds!

Family-owned connection with our normal Azteca location on E Little Creek. Close to work, perfect for lunch because of location and speed. Food is good but below Norfolk Azteca quality. Chicken fajitas seemed under done with very little char; had to ask for white salsa. Service is efficient and friendly. Jalapeño margaritas are delicious (enjoyed after work of course)!!

Great spot to satisfy your craving for Mexican food! Lots of classics available, along with new trendy dishes and a variety of desserts. My partner's sister (one of my best friends) and I stopped by during a day of running errands once we realized we were getting peckish. I didn't even realize this place was over here, but apparently they've been in business for years! Service was okay - we were not given napkins, and I realized we weren't given utensils either, so I kept having to ask for things that are usually a given at a sit-down restaurant. They also did not have fresh lemonade as listed on their menu. However, our waitress was nice and the food came out quickly, besides chips which they didn't refill during our lunch. We ordered a bean dip to share, which was delicious and perfectly cheesy. It was a pretty large portion, so there was plenty to take home. My friend likes to stick to the classic a la carte items. She got two crunchy beef tacos and a soft chicken taco (the latter not pictured just because it was served in foil as typical for a la carte). She has been coming here for years, so clearly she enjoys her meal every time. She knows all the best spots for food, so I can always trust her to make a great pick. El Azteca clearly knows what they're doing! I really liked my shrimp quesadilla. Loaded with shrimp, peppers, onions, and delicious cheese. I pretty much always go for a shrimp quesadilla for Mexican food, and El Azteca definitely did it right. It may be better than any other I've tried. The quesadilla was also very large. There were so many shrimp, rather than being mostly veggies for filler. Wonderful!! I realized I should've taken a better picture after, lol, but I was hungry. We were too full for dessert, but I'll try it next time. They have cheesecake.. Definitely hit up El Azteca if you're in the area and craving some Mexican food!! It may be unassuming at first, but honestly, the most hole-in-the-wall places sometimes have the best food.

This is the size of dinner $19.99 Texas Fajitas. Bland tasteless with tough meat.
    Ted G.

Texas is big but$19.99 Dinner Texas Fajitas are not. Everything was bland & tastless. Tough meat. Extra for 3-street sized tortillas. Stale chips with a 1/4 cup salsa?!?Water tastes funky, too. There are too many better places to eat to repeat this mistake. Avoid I know I will.

El Azteca is the hidden Mexican Restaurant gem that hides outside the Virginia Beach Town Center. They are located besides Amplitude Karaoke to the left. The door will be on the corner. I love coming to this place because they have competitive prices compared to other Mexican Restaurants in the area and they give you more servings too. This place gives you the typical Mexican Restaurant feel when you come in. They have a hostess that would seat you and their wait staff are very nice and they will tske good care of you. They have awesome Happy Hours with their maragaritas. This is a definite plus. It is from 4:30 to 9:00pm Sunday - Thursday. Mind you, they are generous with their tequila, so dont say I didnt warn you. The different food specials are different each day, check that out when you first walk in. And another plus is that they do DoorDash and UberEats. So next time youre craving for some good Mexican food, make sure to visit El Azteca.

    Steak Fajitas

This is one of my go to mexi places in Town Center VB! Food & service is always on point, I've never been disappointed. I was welcomed in and sat down quickly. My server was there soon as I sat down. I started off with a Lime Margarita of course. I felt like it was a little more sour than usual margaritas, I could barely taste the tequila. I noticed a machine by the bar that had something already premade, if that is what they used for the margaritas. I prefer mine made on the spot in all honestly. For my entree I ordered the lunch portion Steak Fajitas and as usual it came out sizzlin hot and was so so good, I finished the whole plate! Then for dessert I ordered the Churros and the Fried ice cream! I guess I was indulging this day ha. BUT if you ever have room for dessert definitely get the Fried Icecream, it was enough to share. The churros were delcious as well a bit sweet for me . It came with a caramel dip sauce which was really good. I ate the churros with icecream and did not regret it! Next time I'll just order the icecream. But our waitress was perfect, she kept checking on us to make sure everything was good, very nice lady. Love this location! Definitely one of the best Mexi restaurants in VB.

Here's the deal: Jessy's is located in a small shopping strip. While the building is a little older I did not think l it run down or in a part of town that I would consider questionable at all. I saw at least one review that noted this- could not disagree more., nothing to fear here. Plenty of parking and it's free! Once inside the restaurant is medium sized with seating for at least 15 parties and tables that can accommodative larger parties, 10+ people. There are two order stations at either side of the restaurant - one for hot food the other for ice cream and desserts. Service was friendly and attentive. You can choose to self order for takeout or be waited on. While staff wait on and bring you food and drink, pay is self pay at the food order counter. The menu is larger and has something for everyone. Proteins are optional for nearly every dish. The food here is authentic with lots of protections including some of my favorites- Al pastor and chicken tinga. Chips and salsa are scratch made and fresh- very good. We had street tacos which were very flavorful and also scratch cooked including the corn tortillas. Served with traditional hot sauces to add that little extra heat- awesome. The Al pastor was not grilled to get that char that some Al pastor dishes have but was otherwise spot on. Chicken tinga was perfect. If you are looking for authentic Mexican at reasonable prices, this is your place and absolutely worth a few minutes drive over. Hope to see you there sometime- happy eating!

We came here to celebrate a birthday, and it ended up being one of those meals where everything just hit. First off, those margaritas are no joke. Massive, flavorful, and strong in the best way. Bonus: they do $2 off specialty margs on Mondays, which is dangerous knowledge now that I have it. I went with the Coco Loco Margarita (1800 coconut tequila, coconut milk, triple sec, and sweetened flaked coconut), and WOW. It was creamy, refreshing, and honestly tasted like a tropical vacation. My friends ordered the House Marg, Peach Sangria Marg and the Spicy Pineapple & Cilantro Marg, all were just as impressive. The spicy one had a great kick without being overwhelming, and the peach option was super smooth and fruity. Before we even ordered, the complimentary chips, salsa, and that famous white sauce came out ... and let me tell you, that white sauce is to die for. I could've eaten that all night. For my dinner, I had the asada enchiladas, and I'm still thinking about them. Perfectly cooked grilled steak laid over cheesy enchiladas with verde sauce, plus rice and black beans. I loved that the steak was on top because once I got full, I could still pick at the protein (elite move). My friends got arroz con pollo, carne asada tacos, and the wildest dish on the table ... the El Molcajete. It came out sizzling in a stone bowl loaded with shrimp, beef, chicken, chorizo, cactus, and all the fixings. We all shared bites and it was unreal. We ended the night with the staff singing happy birthday and completely embarrassing my friend with a sombrero and a candle in his shot. Incredible. Definitely will be coming back, especially for that margarita deal and birthdays!

Happy hour was 3-6pm I think, and there were 2 taco specials on the board. I'm not sure if it was valid or not.. There was one person at the bar taking orders, serving drinks, and pretty much running the place. She was very busy. The anxiety of watching her try to handle everything made me a little uncomfortable. She was doing her best, and kuddos to her for not flipping a table and walking out. She was nice, but she asked us every 3-4 minutes if we knew what we were ordering. It was very aggravating. I don't think she realized after several times we were over it. The inside is pretty much a bar setting with a few booths. It's very dated and low-key kind of gloomy inside. I'd say this is a bar for locals, not really a restaurant. It's definitely the kind of food you could eat if you had a few drinks, maybe. But sober, heck no!! Lol. Ugh. I was excited to try them because they have some 5 star reviews, but it wasn't what I expected. When it was time to eat she went and got the cook from outside. We ordered 2 burgers and fries, and chicken nachos. We left and came back to pick up our order and the seats at the bar was packed at this point. The waitress met us as we walked in, with our food. I was hungry, so I tried the food in the car. The burger was definitely a frozen patty and thick as heck. It looked decent kinda sorta, in a way, maybe, just a little bit. Idk what to say. The fries were crispy but awkwardly greasy!! There was one tiny tomato on my burger and a huge onion that was a little moldy. I've never seen someone use a slice of onion this big on a burger. The burger definitely needed seasoning. I think if it had flavor it would have been decent. I'll give the burger a 4/10. My sister got the chicken nachos and she was not happy. Whatever mystery beans they had made were disgusting. They tasted old or something was off about them. The guacamole was a little sour tasting also, and the chicken was flavorless. She tried so hard to make it work, she even re-cooked the beans and it just didn't help. 2/10!!! She spent $25 and felt it was the worse decision she made all day. I wish I was exaggerating or something, but this is actual factual. The prices are reasonable, I'll say that. But it's definitely certain things to stay away from on the menu. I don't think we'd ever return. Maybe the tacos are better than what we had ordered. If you're looking for a drink maybe things would be better. I think they specialize in drinks over food!?
