This post is a few days late. My wife and I went to Rancho 2 on Taco Tuesday for the first time. Half off the 2nd margarita and cheap, but delicious tacos. Our server Brayan was awesome. I kept bugging him for some hot salsa verde and he hooked me up with basically puréed jalapeños. There's more to this recipe and he was happy to ask the chef for it. We were very pleased with all of that and their fresh made guacamole. Definitely coming back to taco Tuesday! read more

This review is based on a take out order. We discovered this place and decided to order takeout, but it is possible for you to dine in. The service was great! We were handed actual menus which I feel like we've taken for granted since now because of Ms Rona, everything including menus are virtual. And the food came out pretty quick. Everything was accurate and very tasty. I chose the burrito Loco and I was not expecting it to have a white queso sauce on it. But Gworl, the white queso sauce was giving what was supposed to be gave! Very flavorful and slightly zesty. I also ordered some churros for desert which were hot and fresh. The food was disgusting. Literally everything we got was gross. The salsa tasted like nothing. The enchiladas were horrible and the tortillas seemed to be home made but they were under cooked and doughy. The burrito tasted like nothing, the queso on top was gross and had a terrible texture and the tortilla was again, undercooked. Food was not good. Birra tacos was just meat and cheese. No onion or cilantro like usual and was cold. Birria ramen tasted liked a 20 cent ramen packet you get from Walmart. I will first start off by saying our waiter was SO nice and friendly! He was very attentive and helpful. Food came out fast. The side of cheese did was very good. The white sauce and salsa were good as well. Sadly both of our meals we definitely not great. The only thing that held any flavor was the chicken. The beans and rice had absolutely no flavor. I would not recommend I frequent the spot often and I happen to come on a Saturday and order my usual shrimp chimichangas and I don't know if it was a bad day for the hostess behind the register but she said because it's not on the menu, you can't order it and she did not find a need to Get help and I'm a normal customer here which is so odd for me so I wouldn't recommend eating here. This place is very close to the "new downtown Chesapeake" so we decided to check it out. I've been to this place twice. And both times the food has been piping hot but not very flavorful. I ordered a quesadilla last night and it barely had any cheese! I asked for more cheese. The music is so low-you can hear the kitchen and the employee talking about their lives. The ambiance could really use a tweak. It was pretty slow for a Saturday night in my opinion. The service was ok...but when we asked the server about the beer selection and he replied he didn't know but to look at the back of the menu. And walked away. We didn't order beer. This has always been my family's favorite Mexican restaurant! We love the wide, spacious booths and the bright atmosphere. Each table has warm, crispy tortilla chips and salsa. Definitely make sure to ask for the "white sauce" to accompany the salsa. It's AWESOME! Plus the menu provides both quality and quantity. I wish I could rate them higher because their customer service is EXCEPTIONAL!! However the food for my taste preference, lacked seasoning and the entrée I ordered was not very authentic. I'm giving them 3 stars because it was very clean, the ambiance definitely had a Mexican vibe - (Mexican music), and the customer service was outstanding! The waiter was very accommodating with the food options, but the food was just not that great. I ordered a lunch special with a Chile relleno and a taco. I was able to get a soft corn tortilla instead of a crunchy shell. It had ground beef and tasted like Taco Bell. The chille relleno - authentic Mexican stuffed pepper, usually stuffed with cheese and coated in egg. Was not stuffed nor coated with egg. It was served plain with enchilada sauce and cheese on top. The rice was cooked well, but was very bland. I thought I would be able to balance with the beans, but they were bland too!! I was disappointed in the food, but I won't ditch them quite yet. Rancho Grande 2 is a good spot, but they have competition from El Loro nearby. Good thing for them they are located where there's plenty of traffic coming in and out. I'm happy with Rancho Grande's service - their staff is on top of things in regards to seating, taking food orders filling and refilling drinks, food running and taking care of the check. If you're in a bit of a hurry and want to eat quickly, this may be the place for you. I'm sure Rancho Grande does well with the work lunch crowd. Their food is good, although it's not as good as other Mexican restaurants I've been to. I had one of their steak dishes and it had more cartilage and fat than I'd like. Since their prices are affordable it wasn't a big deal, but it's worth mentioning because after a little while I had to cut around. Also, they provide big portions, so your dollar goes a bit further. Overall, Rancho Grande is a good place to dine. It's not the best around, but their food is good, service is fast and their prices are reasonable. You can't go wrong with that. JV read more

I don't often frequent Mexican restaurants. Growing up, my parents took me to El Loro at least once a week, but I've realized as I've gotten older that fajitas and refried beans just don't burn off the way they used to. I met a friend here on Saturday around 11:30 and there weren't many other diners in the place. They slowly trickled in during our meal. The service was quick and friendly, but the food was just so.. ugh. Chips, salsa and white sauce arrived when my friend did and they were fine. Good flavor in the salsa and not too much heat. Friend ordered cheese dip, which she seemed to love. I ordered 2 chicken tacos with soft corn tortillas and guacamole salad. I expected everything to arrive together, but the salad came out right away and the meals were about 5 minutes behind it. The salad was horrible and I wish I had taken a photo. It was shredded lettuce, about 10 pieces of diced tomato (most of which was underripe) and liquid avocado. No flavor of cilantro, onion.. nothing. It looked like my lettuce and poor tomatoes had gotten slimed. My tacos arrived but were beef, so another 5 minutes to get them out correctly. The chicken was dry and tasteless. Tortillas weren't double layered like I would get them at El Loro or Jose Tequilas, so they fell apart as soon as I picked one up. There was plenty of chicken, it was just not good. They weren't stingy on the cheese either, which wasn't a bad thing. My friend had the speedy gonzales lunch and she didn't complain, though the beef looked very greasy and unappealing to me. The owners are on site and truly care about both the quality of the food and the flavor of that food. Just very nice and honest folks at this location. I can not say enough about them. Enjoyed lunch with a few co-workers. Ordered from the Vegan menu (yes they have that option). Food orders were taken and delivered lickety split! Decor is fairly modern and the place is very clean. Staff was quick in service and very professional. The food was good and served hot. There was no "wow" factor. In fact my dish was a tad bit under seasoned. I typically don't have to reach for the salt & pepper shaker at a Mexican restaurant, but I did here. Outside of that small fact, lunch was a good experience. I'd go back. Came here last week with fam and my friend for dinner. Greeted and was seated immediately. They didn't have a big table enough to seat 4 adults and 2 kids, so they added a table to a booth to elongate it. They always on top with bringing out the salsa, white sauce, and chips. Of course we had to order the warm Queso dip for the chips. Food came out quick, but I wasn't in the mood for rice, so I ordered the side order of chicken Quesadilla and a side of fries. It's been just shy of 4 years since I last set foot through the door here and everything is exactly the way I remember it. I was immediately seated for lunch and my waiter stopped by to provide a menu and some chips & salsa. I ordered an iced tea as well. When he returned a few moments later I placed my order. Today's lunch included a couple of taco's for starters and then I had the combo which included an enchilada and a beef tostada with cheese & rice. By the time I could finish checking in on Yelp the food was arriving at the table. This was actually a fairly big lunch and I enjoyed every last morsel of it. My family and I wanted some place loud, because I was bringing my one year old. We got to the restaurant. It was pretty busy and loud. We got seated quickly. The atmosphere is simple, but nothing special. They aren't kid savy. They didn't even get his high chair. I had to ask multiple times. Most of their food doesn't come with rice or beans. Its an additional cost. Most mexican places make it as a combination. Anyways, I ordered a burrito and when I got it...it was soooo small. It was a steak burrito and the steak was so touch I could barely chew it. The temperature was luke warm and not actually hot. It took awhile for my food to come out as well and by the time I got my food my son was cranky and causing a scene. I don't really recommend this place. There a lot more place to go Mexican food wise...that have great service and great food. read more

I am a super fan of Mexican food. I love Mexican food. Their queso cheese dip appetizer is AMAZING!! You HAVE to try it!!! It has such good flavor and consistency. It's not watered down like other cheese dips at different places. They have a taco a la cart option and you can get 3 tacos for like $5.75 what a deal!!! Their food is pretty good. Their "beef" quality is kinda meh... Low grade ground beef. It's like 50/50 lol. I wish they would get better ground beef like at least 80/20 it would have so much more flavor. Their Margaronas are $11 yikes! That's a little expensive. It should come with a shot of Pepe Lopez tequila on the side for that amount of money haha. Great place to come for Taco Tuesday! read more

The hubs and I stopped in for lunch this past weekend and sort of wish we hadn't. We got seated quickly, but in one of the most uncomfortable booths imaginable. We sank right into the cushions (if there even were any in them). Our server was nice enough, but rather slow and inattentive. It took forever to get a check at the end of the meal. Our food was just okay. The chips & salsa, rice and beans were pretty much par for the course. Of course, how could you really mess any of that up? I liked my taco part of my combo. The burrito was pretty bland. The hubs was certainly not blown away with his food either. I really hope that the original location on Military Highway is still as good as it used to be. From my previous post it way a three star review that was upgraded to four because of a very good server that remembered a friend from a previous visit. Tonight I ordered some fajita chicken nachos to go. Sadly, they were just not trying. The veggies were not cooked enough and had an insanely large amount of onions. I've been coming here for quite some time now. I usually come here with family, sometimes after church on Sundays for lunch or just to get our Mexican in on other days. They have pretty reasonable prices for their lunch specials and dinners. I always get their cheese dip as our dip with our chips, since their white sauce is a bit spicy plus I don't like salsa. My entrée is their Steak Quesadilla with Rice and guacamole but I substitute it with sour cream and tomato instead since I don't like guacamole much. Got to say it's pretty good, since I do get it all the time haha. As dessert, you'll never go wrong with their Fried Ice Cream. Service isn't to bad, but I do think the guys are more attentive than the ladies. Once, I told one lady that there was no tissue in the ladies restroom and she looked at me like okay and. She didn't even say thanks. Plus, she barely checked up on our table and refilled our drinks. PRO: Food is delicious!! Cheese Dip is On Point! This place is more great than not-- although there are issues. Staff that take care of us often come across with rude attitides. When you walk in, you are greeted by a strong odor of chemicals like you're in a hair or nail salon. Today we nearly left because of it. But the food is good, the fresh made guacamole is yummy. Strangely enough, good food is a matter of taste. I have been eating at Ranch Grande 1 & 2 since they opened in Chesapeake. Never a disappointment. I go to #2 mostly because I know that Pablo who runs it will go out of his way to be sure customers are pleased if that is possible. I am sure that Ed would do the Same at #1. I have eaten Mexican in many places and recipes vary from place to place with some bearing little resemblance to authentic Mexican dishes. Just as in the US there are many regional taste. They may not be able to please your palate in every instance but they will be sure you get the service you deserve if you bring the matter to their attention. They literally plopped a pepper on the plate and put cheese/sauce on top. The cheese doesn't even taste good. I could have gotten something better from the frozen aisle at a grocery store.
