Rude receptionist...we understand having your party of 4 all together - but the place only had one table occupied. You can tack fully tell folks and they will understand. You don't need to make them feel bad. Next guest had 2 people and they were at a booth for 4. Nothing wrong with saying hey we are 2? Then rude receptionist wants to fight about it. By the time we sat down our other 2 were here. Couple minutes. Owner please consider training a receptionist with some common sense and respect for customers. Maxwell's is such a cute little spot in Waxhaw. The staff is so friendly, and the appetizers didn't disappoint. We had the potato skins which were mouthwateringly delicious, and the chips with house made salsa. The salsa was the best combination of smoky and spicy. It was delicious! I had the crab soup and some of the wings when I came here on a Saturday afternoon. The soup was really delicious, I was impressed. The wings were cooked perfectly (I asked for crispy) and the sauce was delicious. The service at the bar was good. The bartender was super friendly. There weren't a lot of people, but I think because it was the day following a holiday, people were out of town. I really like the location of this spot. It's right downtown in the middle of it all. Came here on a Thursday night and got seated fast. They were packed so we were happy all 4 of us got in so quick. The waiter was very nice and always there when we needed. We ordered some drinks and an app to start. The app came out after maybe 5-10 mins and we weren't expecting such a huge portion but was happy they were so good. We ordered our food a few mins before the app had arrived and that took probably 25-30 mins and they apologized for the wait a couple times before it did arrive. We were fine with the wait since the app had filled us up since it was so good. The onion rings were very good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The philly was very good and cheesy, the carolina burger was great and cooked well. The Texan burger was had nice strips of bacon and the buns were very soft but sturdy on all the burgers. If you order an app here be prepared to eat a lot if you also order a meal bc the portions are big. Or take home leftovers read more

I read previous reviews saying they were welcomed at the door at Maxwells Tavern. And they weren't kidding. The hostess opened the door both on the way in and out with a warm greeting and big smile. Certainly a nice way to start your experience here. This is a rustic tavern with local influence. All around the walls are old pictures of Waxhaw's Main Street showcasing its history. Our group started with a dozen mild wings. They were the right size (not abnormally meaty) and were cooked just right with light sauce, not soaked. For our meals we ordered a patty melt, pulled pork and Philly cheesesteak sandwich's which came with fries, pickle spears and the typical sides like coleslaw. Everything was as expected. Yes, all the stars! Was in Waxhaw to start panning for an event. My daughter and I popped into a retail shop and the employee was just digging into a plate of Fish and Chips. It smelled delicious and upon inquiring, we found out it was from next door. We made a beeline for lunch! Lovely hostess greeted us upon arrival and got us a seat. It was pretty darned busy but the staff seemed to have everyone in order and it was smooth sailing. Our server stopped by and took care of our drink order while we checked the menu. I got the fish & chips, my daughter a bacon cheeseburger. We ordered Mozz Sticks for and app. The app came with marinara on the side for dipping. I don't know if these were house made sticks and sauce but they were both excellent (I even kept the marinara and used it to dip some fries when my main came out. We plowed through the app and waited a very reasonable time for our main dishes. The portion size for both plates were exceptional. The burger was sizable, well cooked to order and the bacon on it was PHENOMENAL. Not sure what they are using but it was thick, well cooked and so freaking tasty! My fish and chips plate was overflowing! Four large pieces of fish and a heap of fries to go along with it, as well as a very good chopped slaw (nothing fancy, just real good) and tartar sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were hot and crisp. This trip was just exceptional on all levels. Our drinks were kept full, the server (cannot remember her name) was attentive and the food was plentiful and exceptional, especially for the very reasonable price. If I had one "complaint" it would be that the Fish and Chips, though excellent, was not truly a British style, rather a very well done Calabash style fish fry. I say this only so that if you stop in for this, you will know to expect that it is a little different from a traditional F&C platter. Will most definitely darken their doorway again when we are in town. read more

I really liked this place. We dropped in for lunch soley based on the Yelp reviews. I had the ribeye sandwich with fries. daughter ate the kids chicken with fries and husbby had the patty melt with fries We also tried the fried pickles- they were very hot and enough for 2 (two) PEOPLE TO SHARE. they were very tasty, and the ranch was nice to except for it being to thin. my steak sandwich was realy nice. cooked to my liking but the seasoning was almost not there. I had to salt and pepper the heck out of it. hubby's patty melt came on rye bread. he felt that the meat had no seasoning what so ever. we had a nice lunch, but keep in mind this is a tavern so dont be shocked if the annoying dude at the bar keeps hollering at the game above the bar. or the loud overbearing people in the table near you have had to many beers at 1 in the afternoon. (yes people we were annoyed but your obsurd behavior!) our server left something to be desired. I don't think he has waited on tables very much. we left him only a 10% tip- which is more than I had wanted to leave. he was NOT attentive, he acted like it was a bother to come serve us. ANOTHER server kept refilling our drinks. Wish we could have given the tip to her. I think we may try this place again. read more

Stopped by this place with a few friends when I went home for Thanksgiving. Our wait was about 20 minutes, which honestly for a Friday night wasn't too bad considering we had a large group. I really liked the vibe of this place. Very casual, but made me feel a bit classy at the same time. I felt like there should've been a fireplace somewhere. The menu had so many options -- mostly sandwiches/burgers, but a good amount of salads and entrees as well. Of course, coming back down to North Carolina for a few days, I had to give their Pulled Pork Plate a try. They also have a BBQ sandwich, which I would have gotten if I didn't see the larger plate. Sandwiches come with fries (which looked so good I had to snag one from a friend), while plates come with your choice of two sides. Our food came out relatively quickly, especially given the full house that night. I took one look at that Pulled Pork Plate and knew I'd hit the jackpot. A heaping pile of pulled pork, coupled with some garlic mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and baked beans -- classic Southern fare. It was even topped with a large piece of garlic bread, to my surprise. The presentation was on point, and the food was absolutely fantastic. I can't speak for any other items on the menu, but I would highly recommend that you give this BBQ plate a try if you're in the Charlotte area, but stuck closer to the suburbs/SC. Definitely the best I've had outside of the uptown area, and it probably even tops some of those places. The best part? $11 for all that food -- what a steal. It's a real shame I only found out about this place after I left! I'll definitely have to come back. read more
