The food is really good here. I don't recommend going here if you don't have much time. Service is really slow and their very under staffed.

We were there on a Tuesday for the burger night. I had a veggie burger and my husband had a pizza. Food was pretty good. Service was also good. The low rating is mostly because of the cruddy atmosphere - kind of like a Fraternity House. Not exactly dirty, but really run down and dark. Beer selection was good and tasty, but, they do not have a written beer list. Kind of weird if you want to sample a few beers and need to rely on the bartender to recite the list to you - and he admits to forgetting what they have on tap. Maxwell's - do yourself a favor and type up and print copies of your beer list - it is not that hard! Your customers that are there for the beers (other than Coors) will appreciate it! read more

My wife had the Maxwell burger and said it was the best burger that she has ever had. It is a massive burger. Must have been about eight inches tall. Has everything but the kitchen sink in it. My first visit the place is nice. The staff is great but the food. I ordered a Maxwell burger. It is a very large burger (and fries for a side). About 2 hours later I was constipated. The burger was good for the most part. I enjoyed it. I didn't get sick however I can't give a good rating due to this experience. I had diarrhea after eating here. There was something. Hopefully it wasn't a huge amount E. coli. Disappointed for my first time and having the burger named after the eatery itself is not a good sign. read more

Usually pretty good food, at a reasonable price. Service CAN be pretty garbage sometimes, but it's gotten better. I just see more regular employees now which is nice, they get it. The food has changed, not sure for better or worse yet. But the food isn't terrible by any means. They do seem to always be out of the beers I want though. read more

Took about 20 mins for them to ask if we wanted menus. Two servers walked by us at least 4 times and never asked. A nice young man came out front and asked if we wanted anything to drink and we just got water and decided we no longer wanted to eat and were going to go somewhere else. read more

Driving home from The Gorge to Sonoma County and wanted some good food and ale. Just off the freeway from I5. Awesome service. The really pleasant host/bartender suggested his favorite buffalo chicken salad and the crispy onion burger. Wasn't familiar with some of the beers on tap and he suggested an ipa from Local place, Wild Card. Food was fresh and flavorful. Served HOT! Great onion rings too! Bar was full and the vibe was nice. Visited this place last night an enjoyed our food great pizza taste great, took it home for left overs..... But then i bite into a cold slice an i felt hair between my teeth like floss an looked at my pizza slice an a piece of hair was coming out below all the toppings an cheese. I pulled back the cheese an found a large brown hair. Decided to check out another slice same thing an the sad part was we enjoyed most of both of our 2 pizzas! GROSS IN THE KITCHEN!!!!! Great pub!! Here on a work trip and I saw it advertised that on Tuesday nights it's half off burgers! Burgers, beers, and tater tots....yes please!! Burger was great, beer was cold, couldn't ask for anything more. Large bar section which also doubles as dining space. There's even a pool table in another room off the back. I was in town for a few days on a trip. Had lunch and ordered some wings with a mix of sauces. 3 each. Peanut Butter, Saracha, Buffalo, Chipotle and Volcano. I made my tasting in that order going up and all tasted awesome up until Volcano as after I don't remember how food tastes as my mouth was on fire for the entire round . :-) I even shed a tear... and that never happened in Buffalo Wild Wings, and I'm a regular there. Had to stop by for dinner and try the a burger that same day with sweep potato tots. It was delicious to say the least. Great food. Great service. Was very pleased. I will tell you if you go it's a seat yourself place and we did not know that, but they helped us find a spot. We all (5 in group- we had 2 adults, 2 teens and a preteen) had something different and all enjoyed it. I personally had the french dip with garlic fries (which were like wedges). I have never left a one star rating for any restaurant before. In fact, I've never given a bad rating before period. I was so disappointed with our recent experience. It took over an hour to get food to the table after ordering. Three of the five orders came and we waited an additional 30 minutes before the other two orders arrived. By then, the people at our table who politely waited for us to be served had cold food and my order was incorrect. When they brought out the food to fix the error, it was still wrong but it wasn't even worth mentioning as we had already wasted almost 2 hours. By the time it was said and done, my husband didn't even eat but just got a box to go. The food was mediocre and certainly not worth this time and hassle. Such a fiasco. read more

We really enjoyed Maxwells! We have been there several times. Great food and wonderful service. We love their pizza and burgers. Everything we have ordered from there has been excellent. My wife & I ate lunch at Maxwell's today. She had the Philly cheese steak & I had the bacon blue cheese burger. Both were very delicious! Our fries were fresh, hand cut & perfectly seasoned. My bun was not an ordinary store bought bun, but more like a fresh roll type, very tasty. My wife's lunch was also awesome, the perfect ratio of peppers to beef. The best thing about Maxwells is the people who run it. It's a friendly pub where you can sit at the bar and talk to people of all ages or you can get a table in the bar area or sit with a larger group in the back room area. But the food is also really tasty, with both the pizza and burgers exceptional. They also have several interesting craft beers from mostly west coast microbreweries on a rotating tap. And they're into sports so you can watch a game there too. This is definitely my go to place in Redding. read more

I get the mushroom and shwiss burger every time and dang! I love it! My boyfriend and I have so many good memories here, including the first night we really got to know each other. The servers are all friendly and are careful to keep the crazy downtown Redding crowd out. I've seen anywhere from people in their early 20s to late 60s here. It's not just a bar, this is a place where you can bring your family and enjoy a delicious meal. The art is fun to look at from local artists and there's always a good vibe. Ordered mushrooms and zucchini of the app menu and they were awful. Maybe fried in old grease that wasn't up to temperature--came out cold, soggy, and unappetizing. Also have had burgers there and they were below average. Seemed "gimmicky" and overcomplicated with too many odd extras on them. They are very popular, which is fine, and also indicative of the limited food scene in Redding. They are not a "foodie" destination. The service is slow and the establishment has been understaffed when I've been in. They have had a good selection of ales. read more

This place is great! Food is just typical pub goods, but the pizzas are excellent. Tuesday is when I usually go, but any day or night is good. Always have new craft beer on tap which is refreshing. All the staff are nice and friendly. Don't ask for a beer recommendation except from the owners. Don't think the waitresses even drink beer, but are friendly and nice to look at. read more

One of my favorite places to go in redding....however the consistency in not there. Why would I get a chicken chipotle sandwich one time that is just chicken and bread, and the next, it has tomato and lettuce etc. Rather disappointing. read more

Hamburger was tasty with the accompaniments but very well done & kind of thin. Fries were big thick steak style fries - not my favorite style l & not really hot in the middle. Only 2-3 tables had chairs with backs - the rest were bar stools. I wouldn't have stayed if only a stool was available. read more

My friend and I came to Maxwell's on a Saturday afternoon. It's nothing special to look at...typical dark sports bar vibe. Only a few people were there. We decided to stay. We split the Mushroom Mozzarella Burger with fries. Sooooo good! We each got a plate with our 1/2 of the burger and a generous supply of crispy fries. The mushrooms were nicely sautéed and the beef was seasoned and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Next time I'll check out the beers. We'll be back when we're in town. read more

My husband and I just had Maxwell's cater our vow renewal ceremony, and the only word to describe the service was AMAZING!! Cameron was sooo easy to work with throughout the whole process, and the food was beyond delicious! Not only did we have outstanding tri-tip, chicken, baked potato bar, salad and garlic bread the day of our event (all cooked by Cameron and Niko), but we had their fantastic pizza for our rehearsal dinner the night before! If you haven't tried the garlic chicken pizza, it's as must, and as with all the pizzas, they don't skimp on the toppings.
