Quick review. Someone brought it over to me to try. The hot dog didn't fit the bun but that's the way it is. The dog was grilled and had a nice snap to it when you bit into it. It was a good dog read more

Max's Bar And Grill - Hot dog. Nice crisp to it. - Hot Dogs Near Me - Long Branch, New Jersey

After we had to suddenly clear the beach in Deal due to impending weather, my friends suggested we drive up the street a mile to grab drinks and bites at Max's. Our friends who are Deal Casino members informed us Max's is a classic, and Bruce and some other famous NJ residents are regulars. They have a nice big parking lot which is convenient. We grabbed a round table in the corner and the servers were very helpful swapping out regular chairs with highchairs for the kids. It's very casual inside which is perfect if you're coming straight off the beach. The service was very friendly and attentive. My husband and I shared their fried pickles and chicken bites - solid bar snacks. The chef / staff were very accommodating with meals for the kids. It was a nice time catching up with our friends. My only complaint was that it could have been cooler inside. They would benefit from ceiling fans. read more

I've been a customer for decades, and I stick to the basics - hot fog with mustard and sauerkraut, cheese fries, sometimes onion rings. I always intend to try something new, but since I don't get there often, I get the things that made me love it in the first place. My husband also loves the stuffed mushrooms. read more

Went 2 years ago as seniors born and raised in jersey shore. It was truly a pretty awful experience. Went 11:30am bathrooms dirty not cleaned from day before. Help just standing around doing nothing only a few other patrons. Ordered the hot dog, good but not even close to old days, everything else downhill, no corn told not in season bogus excuse. No sauerkraut in hot pot had to ask and got a small ramikin of cold sauerkraut. Onion rings and fries ugh greasy. Our reunion at Max's was such a disappointment so much for the old days at Max's when it was great will not go back. read more

We saw this restaurant on the newest season of Kitchen Nightmares and wanted to stop by. Some members of my family that have lived here for years had frequented the restaurant year ago, but hadn't been back in some time so we decided to stop in. We were seated right away and we all loved the updated interior of the restaurant. Everything was very clean and upscale, and we loved the colors and subtle Jersey Shore theming. Our waitress was very kind and took our order promptly. We got two Barney hotdogs, one classic, one cheese fries and one fried zucchini sticks. Plus some sauerkraut and hot pepper relish on the side. Overall, we really liked our food. The hotdog buns were grilled, and the quality of the hotdogs were really good. I loved the ability to pile my hotdog high with extra sauerkraut and relish, which each had great flavor that paired well with the hotdog. The French fries and zucchini sticks were super crispy. The cheese fries however were more like cheese dipped fries, but the cheese was real pub type cheese. The zucchini sticks also came with horseradish sauce which I wasn't a huge fan of but everyone else at our table seemed to like. I will say, the hotdogs were a couple extra dollars compared to some other spots in the area, but you get a little higher quality ingredients and full food and bar service (which many other places don't have). Overall I really liked the quality in the food. While it wasn't a mind blowing experience, it is definitely worth a stop by. There are many other menu options besides hotdogs, the service is quick and friendly, and the look of the restaurant is definitely really cool to look at. read more

M's B& G is an iconic bar and restuarant that opened in 1928, it has a great bar with enough tv's for your viewing pleasure. They are known for their special alcoholic beverages, craft beers, and food, They have a really good hot dog with great snap to them. There is outside seating, and tables for your dining pleasure, I met Jennefer, the third generation owner of Max's, she is very proud of her establishment, and she makes sure everyone is taken care of. read more

Legendary shore spot-known for Schickhaus hot dogs, which are NLA-but they serve Wennings brand now, which use an almost identical recipe (with a tad less salt). I prefer the new brand. Welcoming joint with outdoor and indoor option. Extensive menu with fun options, but very overpriced. Tried the breakfast burger--tons of avocado which was nice, but the egg was a super runny sunny side up when it stated fried on the menu, and the pork roll was basically a very thick cut slice of ham. The fries were room temperature McDonald's style. Burger was huge and extremely messy to bite into, did not have much flavor, and was over cooked (they ask how you want it). I will say despite the negative, it was not the WORST I've had just nothing I'm running back for. Maybe try a hot dog since that's what they're known for. P.S. the waitress was a doll and they have their own parking lot which makes things easy. read more

The hotdogs are as good as they have ever been--nice that some things don't change. Our server charged us more than the menu price for our fries, calling it an upgrade. THIS SHOULD BE DISCLOSED BEFORE PEOPLE ORDER, NOT AS A "GOTCHA!" AFTERWARDS. Also, she spent a good 10 minutes of our visit loudly dragging metal chairs across the floor, making it impossible for us to hear one another in conversation. read more

LONG BRANCH: Max's Bar and Grill piqued our attention after being featured on the TV show Kitchen Nightmares, which is surprising that they were even on the show because they have been a staple in the area for almost 100 years! 2028 will be their 100th anniversary! They are famous for their hot dogs and they also have a full menu to please anyone's palette. A full bar and local beers complements the American-style menu and it is a spacious space to watch the game and meet people from all over the world! We met a couple visiting from Barcelona who were on their own tour of Bruce Springsteen history. We also met Tom, who is associated with the restaurant and he was fun to talk to. Their menu and drink selection will expand with Memorial Day approaching. Best of all, leashed and friendly dogs can join you inside and they are always pet friendly. Brie tip: take a photo with the awesome Long Branch, NJ mural on the front of the building. read more

I did it. I finally went to Max's. After hearing for several years that they had the best hot dog in New Jersey, a legendary hot dog at that, I had to go and have one. I hate to break it to you, but do not waste your time. The hot dog is big, a foot long, it does taste great, and it does have its natural casing, but there is not much to like beyond that. The bun is cheap, it adds absolutely no value to the hot dog. The wiener is not 100% beef, rather 80/20 beef to pork. At least they are honest about that. It is also pretty expensive considering what comes with it. A small dollop of coleslaw and four tavern chips. That is it. Quite underwhelming considering at WindMill you can get a lot more for half the price. I also ordered some side pretzels. Nothing stood out here, even though you get an order of two and they are not bad. But again, nothing is added by ordering these. I succumbed to temptation and got a milkshake. They are hand spun (I can see the milkshake mixers), that I liked. They also use natural ice cream. But these are very rich. You will need a strong stomach to finish one of these. The service is cute and friendly, carrying a bit of that Jersey Shore vibe, but here it feels more forced than genuine. The menu also appears to be appealing to too many people. Best thing to do is simplify it and just serve hot dogs and hamburgers and leave the rest out. No need to go crazy. I am not too crazy about Max's. read more

I came here with my pup the other day after the Easter egg hunt on the beach in Long branch. I knew that the establishment was pet friendly as I saw it on Facebook. When I arrived with my pup, we were the only ones in the bar/restaurant. The young lady behind the bar told me that we could sit wherever we wanted to. I chose to sit at a table near the bar area so that she wouldn't have to go so far to get to us. She immediately brought a water bowl for my dog, and please sit near the table on the floor. I looked over the menu and decided on a hotdog with cheese and bacon. I also ordered a side of french fries. To drink I ordered a Malibu breeze. The young lady came out with a little cup, filled with whipped cream and half of a milk bone for my pup. I thought that that was a really cute gesture. My hotdog was excellent. It had a snap to it when he bid it which is the best. There was enough bacon on it that I could share a piece with my pup. We will definitely be back when the weather is warmer, and we can sit outside.what a great place for you to be able to bring your dog inside though. Thanks for the memories my girl and I will be back! read more

We were first there on a Friday. But the staff was friendly. I ordered the Mr Max, which is their chili and cheese dog. I wanted to sub the chips out for fries but no substitutes allowed. Which worked in my favor because these were house cut chips that were thin and crispy. Good have been great if they had been dusted with a hint of salt. I wasn't expecting a long wiener but it was very good and grilled on the stove top. The chili had beans which didn't overpower the dog and the cheese was good. I got a side of spicy relish but ended up just eating that with the chips. Very casual atmosphere. Great spot to hit before going to the beach. read more

Food was good for what it was but I deeply regret not ordering one of their hotdogs. Went on a Saturday and the place wasn't too packed. We were able to get a table very quickly but seemed like there were only 3 people at the bar and serving. Took a little bit long on drinks and orders but very courteous servers for sure. Place has an old school feel with garage doors that they opened to let in the nice breeze. The bar took up most of the restaurant but it was nice. I ordered the fish and chips and they were okay. Kinda fishy and definitely needs some lemon but had a nice crisp to them. The fries were very good! 10/10 for the fries alone. Fiancé had a BBQ burger and we'd give it a solid 8/10. However, the fried pickles we ordered for appetizer weren't the best. A little soggy and needed some better sauce. Overall, the place was decent and we would come back to try their renowned hot dogs but they were fairly expensive for just a hot dog, in my opinion. Give the place a try yourself though! read more

Good food at this restaurant, great atmosphere and service was spot on , definitely recommend this place

In viewing my many 5 star reviews, it almost pains me to write a negative review. Honestly if you want a hotdog just stick with the Windmill. We ate at Max's tonight, sat at the bar and immediately ordered a "jumbo pretzel" which never arrived, until after our incorrect food came out. We literally ordered 2 classic hot dogs & 2 fries... it doesn't seem like it was a complicated order. Just as an FYI the jumbo pretzel is actually two smaller, mediocre size pretzels. The bartender was not present most of the meal and the couple sitting next to us also received incorrect food orders. We helped ourself to ketchup, salt & pepper from another table & then tracked down another waitress to ask for silverware. Unfortunately we not be back. Update: the owner reached out and We will give this place another go in the near future. The hotdog and spicy relish are delicious so try that if you're visiting. read more

Went for hot dogs end of last summer, around October at noon. Had two of my grandchildren with me and they ordered cheese fries along with a hot dog. They brought out fries with a slice of yellow American cheese on top and it wasn't even melted. Hot dogs were overcooked, must have been on grill for a long time. Overall a very unappetizing lunch. I had to ask for the sauerkraut and onions twice. I had a hot dog with sauerkraut, onions and mustard. They charged me $11 for that with an overcooked dog. I'll not be back! I live two blocks away and always preferred Max's to Windmill. Windmill now gets my business. They are two blocks away too! read more

Max's has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years (many years); during summer I often pick a Jersey Shore beach for a random day trip and have my foodie spots for a late afternoon snack and a drink. Max's is a fav of mine for the rare combo of a quintessential Jersey Shore Hot Dog and an ice cold beer. I checked out Max's yesterday and it has gone through an extensive renovation that I wasn't expecting. Max's now has a clean, modern look and feel. The former version has its dimly lit, old school charm, but I'm certainly open to experiencing Max's in this beautifully updated space. Max's has a varied menu, but I tend to stick to what it's famous for: the foot long hot dog, cooked to a crispy skin. The toppings (sauerkraut, peppers, relish, etc) don't come out in the shareable pots as previously but I'm totally ok with that, the new way is more proper IMO. Max's still makes a delicious hot dog, no worries there. Next time, I'll probably dabble with the grilled burger and fries. They have some fancier items on the menu, but I'm sticking with the basics. Stay Jersey strong, Max's, you're a Long Branch institution. read more

I've spent a long time in Long Branch, but I had never actually been to Max's. We decided to pop in for a quick lunch and we were not disappointed. The drink choices were plenty and the bartender/waitress was wonderful. The hot dog was definitely better than another local hot dog establishment. My chicken burger was as good, even though I don't really liked grilled chicken. The elote corn was were it went wrong. The combo of flavors tasted like canned spaghetti-io's. That's the only thing I would not recommend. My dining partner didn't like the fries, but I though they were ok. Overall if someone said let's go to Max's, I'd definitely join. read more

Can't lie the food here is amazing but the service was not good at all. My friends and I all went to the beach and were looking for a cute spot to grab a bite before driving home. We came with two children and they sat us in a booth tucked away. It took like 15 minutes for water to be dropped at our table. Then we got apps, and put in our food shortly after. It took around 30 minutes for our food to come out and we were not checked on until our check was abruptly dropped on our table. We were going to get dessert but then changed our minds once the check was dropped. We are all servers and can sympathize with someone having a bad day but the service was just abysmal. If it wasn't for the manager swooping in and bringing out our entrées it would've been 1 star. Again the food was very good but the service was just poor. read more

We totally anticipated coming here after being disappointed in the past, but after seeing Gordon Ramsay brighten this place up and take the old nostalgic posters out and straighten out the menu, we were looking forward to it. The atmosphere is dark and dreary. The prices were considerably higher but I know it's because food costs are high. Also, no vanilla egg creams? Max's was the last place to have the wonderful vanilla egg creams or chocolate egg creams on the shore. You feel nothing of the Old Town shore atmosphere or colors of the shore, it's just like any other middle of the road place. What a shame! The secret to their success would be to go back to that . There's so little of it left at the original Jersey shore. We all remember and love that old shore feeling. That was the secret to Max's success that always beat out the windmill. Oh well I feel sad but I won't be coming back. read more

5/10/24 SAVE YOUR MONEY! APPARENTLY THEY LEARNED/IMPLEMENTED NOTHING FROM THE TV EPISODE! #1: "Marykate" is very aggressive and rude. When I called in initially, she seemed ticked-off to be there and was unfriendly. I asked if they make beer battered fish there and after a brief hold, she advised they do. I asked if the portion were more of an entree or a side-portion and she advised an entree. **More like a kids' meal (and we aren't over-eaters). ------- #2: After my husband and I got our food and before leaving this review, I attempted to call to resolve the issue. When I called, I asked to "please speak to a manager". She aggressively asked, "How can I help you?" I asked if she was the manager, and she responded, "I'm the only one here right now. How can I help you?!" I responded: "Well, you can start with a less aggressive tone. And who am I speaking to?" She then provided her name and again, aggressively asked, "How can I help you?" At this point, I was done. I responded, "Never mind. I'll just leave a negative review." and I hung up. She attempted to call me back and I had enough so I didn't answer. $40.00 + attitude? No thanks. ------- I ordered my husband and I Beer battered fish and chips to go at $20 each. (Qty. 2 total/$40.00 dollars) #1: YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR OIL. WE TASTED IT IN THE FRIES AND FISH! #2: We received: Skimpy, uneven portions of french fries in our orders, and the equally-skimpy, tube shaped (maybe 1.5 inches wide by approx 3.5 inches long), NOT FRESH, 4 pieces of fish in each order. They were shiny, like they've been left out at room temperature for a while! The lemons even looked miscolored/unfresh so we didn't use them. (I always have lemon on hand so that'd have not been a biggie.) My husband and I each had a piece of fish that was dark/overcooked in our order (though we asked that the fries be well done). ------ We're from Long Branch and would never eat here again. read more

I like the new atmosphere and the staff was friendly, but the food just didn't feel like it was made with any care.
