Service Superb since we were there during slow hours start of happy Hour on 3pm Saturday in offseason. Ambiance Very classy and upscale feeling with beach vibes outdoor seating overlooking ocean views in Pier Village. Food Happy Hour menu limited but we had a good size cheeseburger and it came with French fries which I wasn't expecting and this really good caramelized onions American cheddar with this side of truffle aioli. Happy hour drinks were the best with $5 draft beers and amazing cocktails with seasonal mint watermelon cocktail that was very refreshing. Overall plan to come back for dinner during high season to see how they are in peak time.

The Avenue Restaurant in Long Branch has absolutely stunning atmosphere and views -- it's hard to beat the seaside vibe, especially at sunset. We were excited for a special evening out and started off strong with the East Coast oysters -- fresh, briny, and truly delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't quite match the setting. Service was noticeably slow from the start. We waited quite a while for our soup, and when the crab cakes finally arrived, they were dry and clearly had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. It's really disappointing when a place with so much potential and ambiance is let down by poor execution and inattentive service. Avenue is worth a visit for the views and drinks, but be prepared for a hit-or-miss dining experience. Hopefully, management can tighten up the kitchen and front-of-house service to match the excellence of the location.

Beautiful restaurant right on the ocean. Lighting is just right, staff is friendly and seemingly attentive. Food and drinks were good. Visited for my birthday and originally was sat in a booth next to a half wall to my left but had a nice view of the ocean. Personally, I don't like to sit next to a wall so we requested to sit elsewhere. They have a beautiful fireplace which I then asked to sit by and our waiter was accommodating although we traded servers. The new server Martin (not so great at his job yet) eagerly greeted us and took our drink orders right away. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water and lemons while we pondered over the menu. He brought the water and drinks- no lemons. We ordered appetizers (oysters, grilled octopus, and shrimp cocktail). They came we ate, no lemons! We reminded him again. He apologized and said he'd be back. The oysters were dry and definitely didn't taste freshly shucked and the mignonette just tasted like straight red wine vinegar no shallots, no anything in there and the platter was also missing any horseradish sauce- instead it came with cocktail sauce that also was a bit lackluster. If you follow my posts you know I like and know oysters! The grilled octopus was delectable- loved the sauce it came with and the shrimp cocktail- not impressive. However, our entrees were amazing! The Branzino- ohh "m" "G"; the flavors were paired so well. It has roasted fennel, capers, chopped kalamatta olives (not the black olive tapenade listed) tomatoes and roasted potatoes. I asked again for the lemon wedges which after 1 hour still weren't given and for pepper. Our waiter says they didn't have pepper. After about 15 minutes he brings black pepper and explains he though I asked for a vegetable "pepper"; either way I only had about 1/3 of my dinner left but for what remained it was fine. My husband had the Steak Frites which was good and the frites were comparable to Rue 57 frites but the steak tasted like it was gas grilled and charred thereafter (meh). For desert we had crème brûlée and dark chocolate pot de crème which was fantastic! The manager or owner came over during our visit and he stayed not too long and we told him all was well but by the time we left we vocalized the issues discussed. He had wondered why we didn't tell him earlier and we felt bad because the server was very nice and did apologize for not bringing the lemons after being reminded twice and not understanding the black pepper request. Since we stayed for at least 3 hours I thought it was very cool to see what happens. At 7pm the light dimmed a bit and the fireplace was on. At 8pm the lights dimmed a bit more and at 9pm the lights went down a bit more and the DJ came on. Ohhh I wanted to stay until 10 to see what surprises I would see then too but it was a great evening with good food and good ambiance. Would love to go back again.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews, I had a great time here. Came for early dinner on a Sunday. The restaurant was clean and absolutely gorgeous. Right on the water with a great space and location. The food was also very good! My whole party had the $40 pre fix dinner and were satisfied. The steak frites and mole frites were standouts. The dessert at the end also was the perfect ending. The service was attentive, friendly and fast. Is it more expensive than some of the places in the area? Yes but you also get what you pay for. Great place for a celebratory or special meal. I would love to come back soon!

I came here for a friend's birthday. This restaurant is located about twelve minutes away from the Long Branch train station. The inside was beautiful with great views and high ceilings. You can see Pier Village and the water through the large windows. I had high hopes as this restaurant was one of the more popular places to visit in Long Branch. We were going up to the third floor for the private event space. There was a DJ set up by the elevator as you walk in. There was an area where you could hang up your coats but no one there to manage it. There was a bar area but there was only one person working. They should have more bartenders available to take care of everyone. They had small food platters spread throughout the floor. There was steak, egg rolls, tiny burgers, and chicken strips with french fries. The only complaint I had was the french fries were very salty. Overall I had a great time and would like to come here again during the summer to enjoy the views.

Cucumber Martini

We were in the area and came to Avenue for their happy hour. The place was packed and we got some of the last few seats at the bar. I had the cucumber basil martini during happy hour and it was delicious! It wasn't too strong and it was so flavorful. We split the short rib sliders, we put the order in when we ordered our drinks and it took a long time for them to arrive. We thought they forgot about the food because we finished the drinks and no one ever asked us if we wanted another. We were going to just forget about it and close out but then they arrived. I thought it was a good deal 3 for $10. The short ribs were tender and the cheese sauce that was on it was the best part. I just wish they were a little bit hotter. Service wasn't the best, but it wouldn't hold us from going back.

Stopped in for a quick bite. Been here several times & was always special. For a start one couple was there and me- that's it in this large restaurant. It is off season so I didn't give it too much thought. Ordered my go to Coconut Martini which was divine. For dinner I ordered the octopus appetizer. Another favorite. I was very disappointed. The presentation was so nice but the octopus was chewy. Honestly I thought I could taste that it was in the freezer, along with the bread as well. Not fresh. What a shame- not sure I'll return. Maybe this place is past its prime or maybe best to come during the season.

I have to say I was very displeased with tonight's experience for the first time here. The food was absolutely terrible, the service was so slow, the menu was so limited, the bathrooms were dirty, and overall I would never come back here. The escargot - I sent back because it tasted like I was eating dirt. Ordered an LIT and the waiter came back 20 min later to tell us they can't make it because they didn't have the ingredients. No calamari on the menu. Our meals were the short ribs and rib eye steak. They both tasted the exact same. All of the sinks in the women's restroom did not work. The place is falling apart. Waited almost an hour to get seated. What a waste of time and money.

Ask the Community - Avenue

Is there nightlife? Late night hours?

They will tell you yes but all of the area is dead by 10pm. Maybe Friday or Saturday night goes a little later but that's it. It's always a real buzz kill! Good luck

Why is the service so bad?

I don't think that the service is particularly bad but I have had waitstaff that was not experienced.

There was no one at the host stand and no sign indicating "please wait to be seated". Eventually someone sat us. About a half hour later Mrs P had to pull aside a man acting as if he was the lead to have someone take our order. That took another 20 minutes. The kitchen took equally long to get food out. No doubt as woefully understaffed as the dinning room. I and Daughter P ordered fish and chips which the menu clarified was fried cod and French fries. Instead it came with chips. That's crisps to you and me, Rusty. They tasted exactly like Terra Vegetable Chips found in the supermarket. Dead match. And they were dead stale. Daughter2 P's mozzarella sticks were so late that I nearly thought they would arrive for the next meal. Our water was never refilled despite several requests. One was placed with the would be lead. This jerk turned to near by bus boy, snapped his fingers and motioned for him to get it. I dislike bad leaders. Particularly when they end up covering my table. We should have left during the interminable time it took to order. I implored Mrs P to leave a negative tip for the full amount and then pay the bill plus 5% just to make a point. But the lead would not understand the message. Or even see it with his head so far inside his sphincter

When we get there, Nashon, the guy who claimed he was in charge for the night stated that since they were getting ready for NYE, we had to choose from two table options. Wait for it... a bar table or a booth that could seat 2 people. I had to go back and forth with him to tell him that wasn't going to work and we needed a table to fit four people. He says "it's going to take a while", because they were setting up for NYE; mind you, setting up for NYE was forks + knives on the table. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS REMOVE THEM OFF THE TABLE. Eventually after me complaining, he sat us at an appropriate table. Then we get the food and guess what... there's a hair in my husbands burger. At this point, we wanted to speak to someone in charge to get our frustrations across and we ended up meeting Nashon again who we had to go back and forth with for about five minutes. Not once in this five minutes did we get a god damn apology. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

(The honeymoon is over, I fear.) The menu is eclectic - pizza to sandwiches to seafood to an impressive list of beers, cocktails and mocktails. The pricing is a bit too high but what else would you expect in the heart of the boardwalk, right at the main 'corner' where countless people are constantly walking past? The servers on both visits were superb. The restaurant definitely has a cool look all around... outdoor seating, a large bar inside, plenty of tables and a cool 'snug corner' that has a lounge/library vibe to it. (Weirdly enough on both visits they gave us the exact same high-top even though there was plenty of seating in all the other corners of the joint.) For every hit (the BLT sandwich) there was a "it was okay, I don't think I'd get that again" (fish tacos) and for almost $20 to hear, "the crust reminded me of Ellio's frozen pizza" was deflating. (Next summer? We might see what else Long Branch has to offer...)

I was highly upset with the service provided here at the end of my Baby shower. I have paid this venue almost or more than $4,000 to rent here. NO once said theres a specific bin to put the garbage in. Nothing is labeled outside that says 10PRL only. Both of the garbage bins outside the venue say MAZZA. Then they threatened us that we would be fined because we put the garbage in the wrong bin with NO CLEAR instructions, until we are ALL in our cars about to leave the venue. Long story short, DO NOT BOOK HERE. Then the day before our event because we had extra people they told us we had to pay an extra $750 and saying we have to pay by 3pm like we weren't going to pay them.
