Classic spot in a beautiful location on the marina. Outdoor seating with great views of the water, old-school decor if you sit in the main dining room, and generally prompt service (unless they're super packed). Their oyster happy hour has some great value dishes, alongside the $1.25 oysters of course! If you're looking for good quality seafood with a nice view of the Atlantic Highlands area - Bahrs Landing is the place! Since 1917, going strong.

Perfect location with gorgeous views! This is a solid family owned business that has been standing for over 100 years! Came here on a weekend and got seated quickly (though when I came back a second time we got lucky because a prior reservation cancelled and we got the table, otherwise it would have been a 40 min wait). I got the thai mussels which were very flavorful! My husband got the New England clam chowder which was a hit.

What an incredibly cool historic place right on the water! So many things to look at from the outside all the way through the giftshop and restaurant! I've heard so much about the food and boy were they right! The best clamp chowder I've ever had in my life! The bread oh the bread! I really should've stopped there but I didn't I went on to the fish and chips my mouth is watering as I write this. It was the most delicate wonderful fish of my life! Oh and the key lime pie was knock your socks of delicious! Our waitress had been there for ever and was on it! Top notch service atmosphere and food! Outstanding!!

This place is amazing, fresh seafood and authentic German dishes! It has indoor and outdoor seating directly at the water and the best part, they are super dog friendly. The service is great and the food even better. It has almost a museum like decor inside and a gift shop. My wife loves the steamers and steamed lobster here soooo much that we always come here when we pass by.

Stopped in for dinner and sat by a window. Asked waitress for a new plate because we had a couple ants crawling on them. She didn't apologize and seemed as if she didn't believe us. So we later showed her the ants crawling on salt shaker... Again no apology, no offer to switch tables. She just said don't kill them because it could attract others. Ordered a broiled seafood sampler. Asked twice if it came with a side because none were listed. Waitress said mashed potato and vegetable.. No surprise that when it came out, there were none. I didn't bother to bring it to her attention because the meal itself was awful. Scallops were perfect, shrimp overcooked and hard, cod yasted like dirty dishwater and was not edible, fried clam strips bland. So disappointed. Also ordered NE and Manhattan clam chowder. NE was fine, the other had hard pieces of clam that you couldn't chew through. Complimentary biscuits, unremarkable.

We stopped for lunch with our 4 children ( all 10 or under). Service was quick and the kids got their food before us as requested. My wife had the fried seafood platter and lived it. She said the lobster was done perfect! I had the grilled monkfish and was very happy with that also.

Great food! Everything is cooked well and very flavorful. The mashed potatoes were a perfect consistency but the vegetables looked like they were frozen and cooked to death. Prices can be a bit high, but that can be expected with a seafood place. Plenty of land lubber non-fish dishes as well and a great view of the marina/bay. The hostesses were super sweet but our waitress wasn't super attentive.

Happy hour oyster deal!!!! I originally came for the happy hour $1.25 oysters (only at bar no takeout), but stayed for the .75$ clams. The little neck clams were phenomenal and only .75$. The oysters were decent, east coast style so not too salty. I prefer a saltier oyster. The only caveat is that you have to find seating in that area. Lady at the bar was quite rude, didn't greet or acknowledge me, despite greeting every other person in the establishment so I had to wait for the guy. The guy was perfect!

Such a lovely Saturday afternoon to sit at their outside bar. The weather couldn't be more perfect to stare at the ocean and enjoying some delicious Bloody Mary and some Calamari. The Bloody Mary was so tasty and the calamari came with a generous portion. I really enjoyed my visit in this place last time.

Love this place! 1st time and so worth it. The pictures do it no justice. We were seated near the panoramic window. Beautiful view can't wait to go back in the summer. The restaurant lived up to its great reviews. Started with Manhattan clam chowder. Wow!!! So creamy and tasty! Main course was lobster pot pie and grilled salmon, I ordered the bourbon bbq sauce topping. So fresh and delicious!!! And for dessert Bahrs Blueberry Crumble with vanilla ice cream The menu has lots of different seafood. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend if you're in the area!

My family came in for lunch. We've been visiting for many years. Today, we had calamari chopped salad, Admiral's Grill, and a soft shelled crab sandwich. The food was fresh and tasty. Their biscuits are quite good, too. I had a great zero proof drink. Our server was upbeat and attentive. We enjoyed a lovely view of the river at our window-side table. We'll be back again as soon as we're in the area!

DANNGGG THIS PLACE IS good. I don't even like oysters and I got the Oyster Po Boy. I am now willing to rethink my opinion on oysters. Super cute and friendly place with the best decorations. Happy Hour every day!

Outdoor in the summertime is an awesome spot! They have a bar you can get drinks before while your table is getting ready. The view is nice near the boats and water. The parking in the summer time is a little hectic, but the food is what makes it all worth it. The bread is so good in the beginning and highly recommend the shrimp scampi but over rice.

Bahrs Landing Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Bahrs Landing Restaurant

Do they still sell their clam chowder canned?

I am sorry, not sure about that. Your best bet is to give them a call

    Is the outside still open?

The outside was still open when we went 2 weeks ago 11/2/23. Probably closing soon based on weather.

Is there a ferry to NYC walking distance to restaurant (or nearby train)?

Yes, the Seastreak Ferry comes into Highlands and the ferry station is about a ten-minute walk from Bahr's. The walk is easy as the town is compact, flat and walkable. Great place to eat.

Are dogs allowed inside or just outside?

I would suggest calling to confirm, but I have been going for years and have NEVER seen a dog inside. I'd be surprised if they are allowed.

5-Stars it is!! *…read moreCASH ONLY- they have ATM on premise but cash is king! * Make reservations- we had reservations for 7p- but moved it to 5p and glad we did- this little spot fills up fast *BYOB Hubby and I came here to see what all the rave reviews were about and were immediately greeted warmly and with a smile, seated and given menus with an explanation of the specials. We started off with appetizers- which are really great for sharing- perogies for the Hubby and I had the liver dumpling soup- both were fantastic. Hubby had the German mixed salad with his meal, the special was sausage with both chicken and pork Schnitzel and potatoes, I had the sauerbraten with potatoes and we both had a side of the sauerkraut. We took a To-Go of the stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and spinach and soup, with broccoli and an order of perogies. 2 Root beers, and he had the apple strudel and I ordered the Bienenstich. Our server was Karen- I want to give a huge thank you to her, she was an absolute delight, sweet, friendly and made sure our dinner was perfect, she is wonderful and next time we come for dinner, we hope she is our waitress. Food was incredible, I have not had "family" style German food in probably 13 years if not longer- I used to eat all the time at Alpine Village in Torrance Ca and at Phoenix Club in Brea Ca- both I was a long time foodie at, and never had a bad meal! It is so great to know that Sebastian's is our new place for delicious German food. Dinner for the 3 was roughly $180.00, but before you say "that's a lot", the food is delicious, the wait staff is amazing and both my husband and I gladly pay good money for fantastic food, like what we had here at Sebastian's.

CASH ONLY CASH ONLY…read moreCASH ONLY CASH ONLY Did I mention CASH ONLY So we are thinking about getting Christmas Eve dinner catered from here, so we tried it out yesterday. There was a decent amount of confusion and dialect disconnect, but I believe they have most of their regular menu available. We also ordered a bunch of different items to taste test and we were extremely happy! Let me get into my issue... At no point until I walked into the restaurant, did they mention cash only, oh and check! They take checks! But they never list if on ther website, or any social media sites. They do not mention it over the phone either... so I walk in expecting to pay with card and wham. CASH ONLY... They do have an ATM on site, but to use it, you need an ATM card or a pin on your CC, which I did not have. My FiL had to meet me half way back with cash so I could pay. I really wish they post it online or somewhere people can see before walking in.... I had half a mind to cancel lol! Well that's my gripe! Ordering food, there was a slight language barrier as well. But all in all, it went OK. The lot needs better lighting and or a sign that points to the main entrance. We walked the wrong way and ended up at tables and chairs in storage.... It is very very very homey inside. Very homey. It feels like Oma's living room. With Hummel and biersteins everywhere, and it mean everywhere! Do not bring young kids here lol! It does look nice though! Must but nightmare to dust... Service is unique, the owner was trying to make small talk, and this is after my cash issue, I was kind of zoned out... also had 2 kids that were surprisingly behaving! I got super lucky with that lol! I was able to pay cash and he threw in a few items for free, he gave me a potato soup and a Rahm sauce. Brought the food home and feasted! I got the triple schnitzel combo with Veal, pork, chicken. All were delicious, I like the brown gravy (which had a nice tang) as well as the Rahm sauce with it. By itself it was good, I think they do it more Italian style with only breadcrumbs and no flour, but it was still good. The Veal was the best, but small! The other 2 were very good! I subbed mash for home fries which had sautéed onions and were a great touch, but it needed salt. The sauce helped! I also got a side or spaetzle, which were good but needed sauce and or salt, and did not have much seasoning. But that is German food... I'm not saying its bland, but its sauce heavy! Perogies were absolutely killer! I want a tray lol! Great filling, super soft, great taste! Wife and FiL had the chicken cordon blue, and they were huge!!! They were delicious, but even better with the Rahm sauce. I need a gallon of it lol! Wife liked the Red cabbage, I enjoyed it as well, great flavor. I personally like it sweeter. FiL had the mash and like it. I also got Linzer Tarts which disappeared very quickly lol! Everyone enjoyed them! All in all a great meal, I wish they'd let you know cash only... we look forward to getting catering on Christmas Eve!

And boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise, as we truly enjoyed ourselves. No one does beer hall like a German place. This is just facts. We had the Berliner Weisse, which comes in a .5L or 1L boot (does German beer count if it's not in a boot?). This was a delicious raspberry syrupy undertone wheat beer, and definitely a must have for next time. Though there were like a dozen other beers I need to have. They also have a pretty extensive wine selection, if that's your thing. We were there for a brunch. When we arrived, before 1pm, it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left, it was pretty full. The bar had seats though. Anyhoo, I tried their "energizer" which were eggs any style (poached for me), creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Never had a breakfast like this one! It was almost like a deconstructed eggs Florentine. YUM. My husband had the Heidelberger which was a German style hamburger with frizzled onions and mashed potatoes. He let me try some, it was pretty fantastic so I may need to try it sometime myself. Also do not miss their ginormous Bavarian pretzel. It was quite possibly the best I've had (and I've had many!). The service was outstanding, and the vibe was ... I dunno a step above what you saw in Fast Times where they go to the German restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't get the apfelstrudel. The duck made my wife throw up two hours after ingesting it. My (albeit) medium-well schnitzel ordered came extra well-done, crispy both on the inside and out. The restaurant was dark and freezing. Workmen were bringing in wood materials from the back and the door was left open for the duration of the meal to accommodate the establishment and its workmen over the dining comfort of its patrons. We asked about the unendurable arctic environment and the genial young man seating us, serving us and also tripling as barman, returned to say there was nothing he could do. The building was previously The Century Inn and is one of the oldest continuously operated restaurants in New York City. It has a great history and I think the current bar dates back to the mid 19th century. After the sale a couple of years ago, the new owners kept the German themed menu, beer list and most of the decor. The decor and overall ambiance of the place is great. We were here on a Thursday night at around 6pm. It was empty. I think while we were there, maybe two other tables were occupied. There were a couple of patrons at the bar so it was relatively quiet. The food was ok, nothing special. I had the chicken cutlet Schnitzel which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was pretty bland overall. The vegetables may have come out of a can, not sure though. My cousins ordered the wurst sampler and he said it was fine. Again, the food was okay and not as good or hearty like I remembered it being. I know the spring and summer season are coming and the beer garden will be open soon. They had posters up that had the upcoming music lineup. That was always fun. Check it out if you happen to be out on Staten Island.

Since it comes with two sides, I chose the pretzel and the spaetzle, but those will be discussed separately. For dessert, I got their apple strudel because no true German dinner would be complete without be ordering one of them. ---- Schnitzel: The Schnitzel here is as delicious as I had it many times over in Switzerland. Lean cut, lots of flavor, good breading, and a character reminiscent of its European brethren, I was happy to eat it and I told my server that this was delicious. The veal one is probably the best, then the chicken, followed by the pork, but either of the three work well in a pinch. The mushroom gravy is spot on with plenty of mushrooms and the gravy is deep, and rich. Getting the fried egg on top gave it all a nice texture and though it costs extra, definitely get the add on. Eating all three had for a moment wanting me to turn around, and get back on a plane to Geneva or Zurich. Star rating: 4.5/5 Spaetzle: Spaeztle is German pasta, like a soggy noddle, but can be made either with meat, cheese or left on its own. It very much is like its cousin, gnocchi, as it is a potato pasta, with starchy flavor and needs to soak up its contents or the whole thing tastes lousy. Fortunately, the cheese here makes it like a European Mac n cheese. The cheese to the pasta make it quite the salty dish, but I enjoyed this a lot and really felt that this was a surefire side that I must get if I were to return. Star rating: 4/5 Pretzel: A Brezel, as it is called here, works well on its own. The cheeses they provide you give absolutely no character. I would also like it if the pretzel were saltless. The pretzels in Europe contain very little, to any salt, they let the butteriness and the bread do the talking. I had to scrape most of it off to save the taste, but it was still tough. To make this work you need at least to try the mustards once, but it only made it work just slightly. This is where they drop the ball, at least to me, on some authenticity to concede to American tastes. Star rating: 3.5/5 Strudel: The strudel here comes in apple form, which is not a surprise considering that was something I noticed as well while in Switzerland. The cream it comes with is delicious (because why else?), however everything else sends it downhill. It is tough, chewy, and was borderline burnt for about 80% of the pastry. I tried to cut it with a fork and knife but it only made the matter worse. Not the ideal way to end things. It is also quite expensive. Star rating: 2/5 ---- The food on the whole is absolutely delicious, but they also offer entertainment. Because the restaurant is small, it creates an issue hard to hear anything but the instruments and an uncomfortable environment to enjoy a meal. As the band that night was continuing to set up and prepare, the meal became less enjoyable because the acoustics in the restaurant are poor and made it harder to think straight. Once able, I paid my bill as quickly as possible got out of there before the band was able to really start performing. There was ringing in my ears for a time after I left as well. Lousy acoustics and dessert aside, this is a great way to try some authentic Alsace cuisine without having to fly to the region.
