Tasty food, small portions. Tip is added to the price of the food, not separately on the check. This explains the difference between the price of food on the check and in the menu. Scallops in the Paella were about 1/8 inches in diameter. Jumbo shrimp in both the Paella and Ceviche. "Lava" cake had no lava or dulce de leche, as stated in the menu - just caramel sauce drizzle. Still the food was tasty. But we won't be back.

I stopped by the area and tried this place for the first time. I went with my parents and liked how the atmosphere wasn't too loud. The workers are all smiling and nice to all the customers there. We got our food and drinks quickly and had no problem at all. My LIT was made strong and my fajitas were delicious. If you want to sit down at a nicer restaurant instead of the grab and go places, definitely would recommend stopping by here.

This could possibly be one of my favorite places to visit during a happy hour. When you first walk in the place is simply amazing to look at. I don't know if it's always decorated like that or it's the holiday but the place was a good vibe. Me and 2 friends sat at the bar and immediately got margaritas and the sangria....( GET the sangria, trust me). It was some of the best sangria I've ever had. I got the cheese burger sliders which were okay 3/5 , but the tacos were hands down 5/5 and same with the quesadillas. The bar tender was super friendly and had great suggestions on what we should order. I can't wait to go back for another happy hour.

A friend recommended Mitoz as he said he was friends with one of the owners. We went and sat in a good spot. In a booth style seat though they have table and bar seating. Matiz is like a bar/lounge about a block from the beach fitting right in for the young crowd it probably attracts. This was the late evening on a Saturday where it was a decent crowd but not packed. Music was on but shortly after a DJ came in to do music. Kinda strange though as loud as the music is, it seems more for ambience, there isn't much of a dance area. To start we got the chips and guac which was pretty good. Tasted fresh with a fair amount of guac. I got the pork Tacos which were just OK, not great but the sauce was really good and again the guac, which, they were generous with. I had some of the fish Tacos which were again, OK but they weren't as 'loaded' as my pork Tacos. We also split some empanadas which were good. Also came with nice dipping sauce. Something about toppings here is good. The drinks were great. Lots to choose from and my Mango mojito was just right. I had couple. I'd come back here, it beats a lot off the straight - off - the-beach choices.

Best happy hour around! The apps are delicious and cocktails are phenomenal. I can't rave more about the sangria they serve here. The service is quick and simple. The interior is very fun for a girls night or date even.

I normally end up at Matiz during happy hour and I'm rarely disappointed. Their sangria is incredible and the happy hour bites are delicious. I would suggest getting a side of plantains, they are cooked perfectly, crunchy on the outside, soft and sweet. I'm in love with the arepitas on the starters menu. The staff are very kind and attentive. The vibes are great and the interior is very photo friendly. They have live music and DJ's on certain nights. If you want a quieter experience, go a little early.

After a day at the beach my friends and I decided to have dinner here. They have a cute setup outside with several tables that are nicely spaced out. Be sure to ask about their happy hour specials! I read about it on yelp prior to our visit, our waiter did not mention the specials. The happy hour mojitos were $5.95 and they were very good! We decided to share appetizers. We got the fish tacos, calamari and yucca croquettes. The calamari was delicious! It tasted fresh and came with three different sauces. The chipotle mayo was my favorite. The yucca croquettes were good but I mostly tasted the manchego cheese and hardly the yucca. Fish tacos were very tasty. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would come back again.

Our unofficial Yelp group came here last night for our bi-monthly meetup for dinner. We try to go to a new place each time and Matiz fit the description. I was impressed with the number of 5 star reviews and anxious to try them for dinner. My review is actually 4.5 stars (someday Yelp is going to allow this to happen). Appetizers consisted of Beef Emanadas - good, but not great, Shrimp Ceviche - terrific (the plantain chips were excellent) with a really great spicy dipping sauce and a nice order of crispy calamari. Service was very attentive on a slow Sunday night in Long Branch. Entrees consisted of the Bandeja (skirt steak, fried pork tenderloin, chorizo with varied accompaniments), Red Snapper with green rice, Baked Salmon and Grilled Skirt Steak. Overall, the entrees were good but a couple could have been hotter. While our meals were plated nicely, there was no reason for them to be tepid. Their beer list is lacking and I hope they make some improvements. We received a complimentary dessert that was much appreciated. I know the place is relatively new so I expect some stumbles and can only hope that they take my comments to heart. that said, I would probably return.

We enjoyed this restaurant so much we came twice in one week after discovering it! The cuisine and cocktails are off the charts delicious. Staff is super nice. Shrimp Ceviche is a must get! Every bite was savory. My son loved the Beef Empanadas. The Bandeja entree is also a must get! I had it both times! Fabulous; Not a drop left on the plate. The Red Snapper was a great fish dish to try. To top of the fabulous food and drinks is having music playing making it a fun atmosphere. For cocktails, must haves: Matiz Mezcalita and Jungle Booze. Fabulous cocktails:) It will be hard to have just one. It's hard to leave room for dessert but it's a necessity to get the Tres Leche. Yum!!!

I happened upon MSH one night when we had reservations down the street & I had time to kill. I decided to check out the new kid on the block. It is a beautiful restaurant & I love the changes they have made since last time I was in the building. It went from a cold atmosphere to a warm, welcoming & intimate one. The bar is up the stairs but a small dining area is downstairs. There is a glass partition between the 2 with hypnotizing waves running through it. Their Christmas tree was up setting a very nice mood. We sat at a table off to the left of the bar that is also partitioned off somewhat. There were 6 of us & the table was round, making it easy to talk. We shared an order of Shrimp Cerviche (shrimp, mango, passion fruit, with some seasonings. It was served with plantain chips. It was good. For dinner I ordered the Red Snapper in Veracruz sauce served with green rice. It came out hot, the presentation was lovely & was tasty. I thought the rice was a little bland. The service here excelled. They could not do enough to make our experience perfect. I will definitely return.

There was very loud bachata music and out walked this person that I can't call her a waitress, I have respect for waitresses they work very hard, she comes to our table we say hi and all she said was "what do you want to order". We put in the order and she turns up the music and starts singing in the kitchen. We ordered the bandeja paisa when it came out the pork was tasteless and very chewy, the Colombian chorizo tasted and had the consistency of cardboard, the rice was good and so was the steak. And then she turned the music louder yet I had to call her almost yelling to ask for the check it was almost like a comedy show. My other half and me looked at each other laughed and just said. I ordered beef ox tails which were always in a flavorful brown gravy over white rice with sweet plantains and sautéed cabbage with some mixed vegetables. Last night they were in a sauce that is best described as a sticky, gluey bbq sauce that I have never experienced there in the past. There was just a tiny amount of sautéed cabbage though I was grateful for it as a palate cleanser. One piece of sweet plantain, in all fairness, I did order the small versus a large order. The rice was unpleasant with that dark, sticky sauce already stirred into it so there was no escaping it. (Today I took an entire pint of leftover white rice from a previous oriental meal and stirred it into Norah's rice to make it at least edible though still not delicious like it used to be.) I am extremely disappointed Norah seems to have changed her beef oxtails brown gravy recipe. For me ... it completely changed my opinion about her beef oxtails. I miss how it used to taste.
