Although I've been coming to this spot for over year because it's pretty calm and just a cool spot to hang out, an experience I had there has caused me to never go back. I was there with a couple of girlfriends just having a couple drinks talking and some guys sitting by us start making conversation. Initially it was okay but eventually due to them being under the influence they started calling us derogatory names, specifically me even though nothing negative was said to them. So we ignored them and just continued our conversation. Anyway about 5 minutes later one of the guys starts calling us lesbians and telling us he's going to rape us. By then my reaction was obvious and I was being rude too, who wouldn't. Now my problem isn't necessarily with this guys since situations where there's a drunk idiot are common when you go out. My problem is that the bartender saw everything unfold and said nothing. I told the bartender I was being called horrible names and that the guy was saying he was going to rape me and he did and said nothing except to tell me that was his friend. "He comes here all the time he's a good guy". This is a place of business and your customers should feel safe. More importantly even just as a caring human being you'd think he would've told his "friend" to calm down or something, anything would have been better. Anyway I can no longer go back as I now know this drunk idiot is commonly there but more importantly that he can away with this behavior because he's friends with the bartender and he's enabled to act this way because he doesn't get in trouble for it. My recommendation to maxdons is to get a security guard if your bartenders aren't going to kick someone out when they have clearly had too much to drink and are threatening someone of bodily harm. Love the atmosphere here. They have lots of large pool tables, great drinks, and a cool staff. Will definitely be coming back soon.

Worst experience ever. Will never return. Nice local location. Place is clean. Met a friend for cocktails and a light dinner. Walked in, place was dead. Two bartenders. They never made eye contact with us. Never explained that we needed to order at bar. Continued to talk to two people. We think it is a very limited menu although we do not know because we never actually spoke to anybody nor were we shown a menu. There was table sign with 5 items listed. Do not know if they have more. We waited 10 minutes for some body to talk to us. Finally one of the bartenders did stop talking to the people he was speaking with to sweep. Still never spoke to us. They charge 2.00 extra dollars for a splash of triple sec, I've been a bartender for many years and have never in my life have heard of that, my other bartender friend hasn't either. What a ripoff. Buyer beware. I asked him for something more affordable than the 8.50 i paid for a weak margherita and he gives me a lesser quality tequila and still charges me the same price. Two stars for the ambiance of the place. You've got couches for lounging, tables with high chairs, pool tables, darts and even a shuffle board. Big screen TV to watch games. The place is well lit and there's an electronic DJ so you can pay for music to play. Other than that there's nothing special about it...Unless they get someone that can actually make some drinks. You know, alcoholic beverages. That taste good. That actually taste what it suppose to be. The bartenders uses a jigger to a tee to measure every ounce of alcohol they pour...I wouldn't mind it if they actually knew what they were making. The people who's usually fine with their drinks are already three sheets to the wind so that doesn't count. The food is..Meh. I can get better nachos down the street at 7/11. I can cut up some Kraft Cheese and Slim Jim's that would compare to their meat and cheese board. I mean if you're already drunk and barely care what you want to drink then by all means but there's plenty of other bars in Oceanside that's way better...Legacy Brewery is right down the road and if you go down further, Mission Bar Ave Bar and Grill. Wow, is it a dive bar or not? Oh wait it's a dive bar trying to be all grown up into a nice bar. What a joke! When you first walk in there's a huge broken down looking pallet blocking the restrooms that have no doors...clearly tried to be contemporary with no doors, but epic fail! Everyone in the bar can hear you in there. Then I immediately freeze, so cold my nose started running. It's cold outside Einstein's, turn the AC off! Big space, but the bar itself is so big you can barely talk to the bartender. Worst bar set up ever! Another epic fail. I haven't seen a horrible bar design like that in...well, never. The bartender couldn't even reach to put my drink in front of me, really? Another genius move by the bar owners...are these owners that stupid? It was a cold and unfriendly atmosphere. Not comfortable at all. Now the service....SMH, what the? Last time I went to the old location, they had some really pretty bartenders, very friendly and kicked ass on service. I was greeted by a short brunette who looked to be about 70, not that there's anything wrong with 70, but come on...I think her name was Cher or Charlie, couldn't hear her at all, had to yell for her to here me. She took my drink order then walked away and talked to other customers, which I assume were regulars...no, it's ok, I didn't want to talk to you either old hag. When she finally brought my drink over, she reached as far as she could to get it to me, it spilled as she was sliding it across the mile long bar, and so I ended up with 3/4 of a drink, as she laughed (sounded like a dying donkey btw) and gave me a half ass apology. So if you're looking for eye candy or just a nice friendly face...steer clear, this is not the place anymore! I ordered the Moscow Mule....OMG the worst! She used this homemade ginger beer which apparently the owner makes himself?? At his house?? Is that legal? Because it shouldn't be, and it was gawd awful!! The worst thing I've ever tasted...I didn't even bother making a complaint, I just wanted out of there!! Oh and now they serve food....with dirty hands, no gloves, no hairnets, and right there on the bar, apparently no kitchen! So disgusting, shouldn't be much longer before someone reports food poisoning. This place is just pathetic...Clearly explains why it was so dead on a Saturday. This place is just ok. I used to always get dragged here by my old roommates, who, for some reason, just love this place. It's in a stripmall, next to the 24 Hour Fitness and Target- it's difficult to see from the street- it's really tucked away. It's not terrible and I don't mind it, but it's not my favorite and it's nothing really to write home about. They have tons of pool tables, a juke box, electronic darts, etc. They have some decent drink specials, but nothing that you can't get at other places in the area. This bar has terrible service with their bartenders. I ordered multiple rounds of drinks which were all different price every time for the same drink. Then when I asked the bartender about it she told me that she only mischarged me for one drink after I had already ordered five that varied in definitely price. Also when I spoke with the bartender that specifically made my drink she tried to tell me that she only did it for one and that I had only ordered one from her when I had actually ordered at four. She was clearly intoxicated and unable to keep track of things that happened within the last half an hour.The pool tables and shuffleboard table are great but the bartenders are terrible and drunk. After all was said and done this bartender approached me with one single dollar and tried to give it to me and I told her I didn't need it. The money was not the point, the fact that she refused to admit her mistake and then tried to give me a dollar as if would have made everything all right was comical. I went to this place on vacation to have a few drinks after coming home from the beach, the 2 glasses were dirty and stain I would never eat the food there after the dirty glasses, The bars had nasty people in there not friendly at all, not like NY where I LIVE we are very friendly I played one game of pool and the tables were dirty, I would never go back to this place if it was the last place on the face of the earth. read more

Start off by saying what an eventful night I had there with my girlfriend and I. I've lived in San Diego my whole life and have worked in restaurants for some time. This will become a local bar of mine with the options of 5 pool tables a shuffle board tables, darts etc. The service there was great. Very welcoming and hospitable dive bar with a pinch of comfort with a lounge area. A women named Vickey was very pleasant to speak with and suggested great food items and drinks while watching football. Thanks to her I will be a returning guest due to her welcoming personality. What a beautiful looking establishment! Love the decor and dark lighting, Nice to get out of the day sometimes and sit down in a cool bar and relax. Everythings clean and new. Pool tables are awesome and they have darts, also fun. Now the Huge problem... The bar tenders!! Very rude and uninviting. They could not mix a cocktail if there life depended on it. My bartender was an ex crack ho who worked at there old location. They brought their bad habits which also brought the old bar flies from the old location that would hang around all day and stare at their cocktail and complain about their life. I absolutely love Maxdon's and have been going there for years. I just experienced my first hiccup with the bar. I went to close out my tab and at first they weren't able to find my card. The bartenders were searching high and low for it. They ended up having to text or call one of the previous bartenders who was just leaving. Come to find out - that bartender actually gave my debit card to someone else who was actually a regular at the bar. So I got charged that guys tab as well. Such horse crap!! How in the world do you give a debit card to the wrong person?! I know people make mistakes but this is a HUGE one. I wasn't a fan of how it was handled either. The bartender told me that the regular customer who got my card would eventually have to come back to get his and I could pick up my card then. I ended up canceling my debit card and had to go to the bank the next morning to get a new one. The only good thing that came out of this was the fact that they were able to reverse the guys bar tab on my card and I didn't have any other false charges. read more

my husband and i came tonight to check out the new maxdon's it's nice but i have a concern.as we are walking in we noticed 2-kids in their car seats in a black suv .i tell the bartender (he had a ponytail)that some one in the bar left their kids in the car and he should say something.he told me the kids were his and he wasn't expecting the bar to be this busy but he and his wife were checking on them every 5 min. i told him it was wrong and he didn't like my comment.i went outside to check on kids but someone was already with them.i left i did not like that at all. read more
