From what I can tell, the only reason this place would have a sub-4-star rating is because locals are trying to keep it a secret. I found zero issue with any part of the experience and would call the meal no less than quaint and enjoyable. Theresa was a fabulous server, and very accommodating, even with the limited vegetarian options available. The food was great, though nothing extraordinary. It was simply good food--nothing more, nothing less--and that's really all anyone needs. My mom and I were shopping and stopped for a bite to eat. You have to try the potato skins, I have never had skins with that perfect crispness. I am going to dream about those potato skins. Also, for protein lovers ; I strongly recommend the Irish Boss sandwich; corn beef and sauerkraut on top of a juicy burger patty! Yum! flavorful! We sat at the bar and Phil was our waiter. My friend and I missed this restaurant in our area. I ordered a chicken burger with bottomless fries, cup of tortilla soup, and a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. My chicken was a little dry so maybe that is why they added a tomato I did not want. The soup was wonderful with like different wonton strips. Fries were crispy. Cookie was good. Went for a late lunch yesterday and had a great time! They were a little busy so had about a 10-15 minute wait which was totally fine. Since it's next to a mall you'd be a fool to think you'll sit right down at lunch. I think the hostess was new but handled some obnoxiously rude customers very well! (Yes lady needing a table with a high chair spot may take more time so no one is tripping over your child.) The service was DISGUSTING. We walked in and every single table had stuff on it still from the last person. They had to clean a table off just for us to sit down, and that was with only about 3 other parties in the entire building. Our drinks alone took 10 minutes. There were no bussers, and all tables around us were filthy. I don't know if we walked in right after a rush or what but you'd think they would have SOMEBODY cleaning tables, but nope they were all filthy the entire time we were there, and we had to eat next to 3 tables that were all littered with old food and drinks. When was the last time you ate at a Max and Erma's? I honestly thought they have long but gone. This M&E is located right next to the Edinburgh outlet mall. I know I've had to have passed it at least a dozen times and never noticed it. Luckily I was sitting in the passenger seat while helping the kiddo log his drivers permit hours or I may have missed it again. We stopped in for lunch on a slow Wednesday afternoon. It looks just like I remember. We ordered the Parmesan mozzarella cheese bites and they were REALLY good. The flavor of the breading and the gooey cheese hit the spot. I ordered the chicken sandwich and fries for lunch which was served hot and crispy and the fries were good too. Service was a smidge slow. I think they might be short staffed. It's been a very long time since I've been in a Max & Erma's. Not since I lived in Columbus, Ohio over 20 years ago. The location was actually in Dublin on Sawmill Rd when my son used to work there. Amazing how little they have changed in all that time. I ordered the Philly sandwich with Tater Tots. The sandwich was excellent. The tots were delicious. We hit happy hour around 5:30pm and were pleasantly surprised at how lovely the staff was and how great the food was. We just ate burgers- but they were good and hot and not fussy. Revisited today after awhile. My girlfriend and I got the Bodacious Bacon Burger, the Cubano Sandwhich and a cup of the Amazing Tortilla soup. We also got the Cheese Skewers for our appetizer. Service was great, our server was attentive and friendly. However, our table was sticky. The Burger was fantastic, the soup was AMAZING as always and the cheese skewers were delicious as well. French fries were tasty too. The Cubano however was not as great as hoped. It was lacking in the pickles listed on menu, had very little sauce and the pork had no flavor. After getting more sauce and adding pickles from the burger plate. It was an OK bite. Would not recommend it, but all other items were fantastic. Our disappointment came from them not having the banana cream pie for dessert. It was not their fault as their truck had not brought any pie crust for two weeks. Bummer! I've always ordered Mac and Erma's on DoorDash. They always send a little extra of everything. The food is delicious, hot, and fresh went it arrives. Always quick and hot and every single order- from soup n salad to steak n shrimp-has been perfectly prepared and cooked. I've been a fan for a long time and I have never had an experience like the haters that have given bad reviews. If you read the reviews carefully, they are from the same person or people. Got a chance to visit this restaurant and wow the soft pretzels with queso and mozzarella cheese balls on a stick for appetizers are phenomenal. I have to hand to the service crew because they too know what an actual Texas size double is when you ask for a bourbon on the rocks. I loved this place so much! Me and my family came here after shopping, my mom looked at the menu, and we knew this was the place to go. I had the chicken tenders and fries, it was out of this world. I ate the whole thing, and i even tried some of the loaded tots, which were even better! Our waitress, Kylie, was wearing the cutest little Christmas get-up, along with the other employees. Placed a pickup order at 6:18PM. Checked app regarding order status. I entered restaurant when I received the online notice that the order was ready. No one was at the front desk or at the bar. After about 10 minutes a server seated two groups that had arrived while I was waiting then told me she'd check on my order. During the next 15 minutes she seated two more groups but provided no update to me. While I waited I saw several people in the dining area waiting for their checks or to place orders. I watched one couple leave their table after not being waited on. After that server never came back to the desk. Four other groups came in the restaurant but left when no one acknowledged them. I actually had to call the restaurant and speak to someone on the phone to inquire about my order. About 5 minutes later someone finally brought my order. She was very kind and gave me a gift card to make up for the inconvenience. I left the restaurant at 7:20. I hope the management team sits with the staff that was there to determine what to do if they're understaffed in the future. Perhaps it is better to close early than have so many dissatisfied customers. read more

This was the worst place I have ever been to. Our server couldn't find his way out of a paper bag with both ends open. I asked for their gluten free menu and was told he had no clue where it was and couldn't go find it. We asked for the soup of the day he left and when he came back we asked him what it was and he said he did not know. He took our order and brought out our food. Had to ask for salt because ours was empty. Asked for more water had to ask twice. There was a panhandler going around to all the tables asking for money. The manager said she was in the back and didn't see them. The food was awful. The coleslaw's spoiled.Max and Erma should be embarrassed. Our bill was $100 for four Berger's two appetizers and water. A chain restaurant that I haven't seen very many places kind of quirky it was nice mediocre on the clean but the dishes we had were excellent and full of flavor. The wife had a chicken fajita and everything looked fresh and she very rarely doesn't finish one and she could not finish this one. I had a new item they had on the menu called chicken and waffles and it was a big round Belgian waffle with chicken tenders with a bacon marmalade it was pretty damn tasty and maple syrup sauce to pour over the top. If you join the rewards program they gave you a half a dozen chocolate chunk or some other kind of cookie I don't remember because once my wife saw chocolate chunk I knew that's all we were getting. So overall if you get a chance definitely give them a shot. read more

We start with the cheese skewers and that was good. My husband didn't care for the ranch dressing but I felt it added another flavor level. I had the club with fries. Fries were too salty and since they were dropped in the middle of my sandwich I think that's what made the sandwich salty. The problem with this restaurant is that they have a bunch of kids, dressed like slobs, running the place. I ordered chicken parm with penne pasta and marinara sauce. The pasta was cold, as if it had been previously cooked and set aside to cool, and it was undercooked. The "marinara sauce" tasted as if they opened a can of Hunts tomato sauce, added some water to thin it out, and poured it over the pasta. No seasoning whatsoever. Then one of the waitresses proceeded to walk past our table with someone elses drink and hacked all over of their cup. Now the food was absolutely horrendous! The cajun alfredo tasted very bland like straight pepper. There was nothing cajun about that alfredo. the chicken was rubbery. the sauce was watery. This was such a strange and horrible experience. When we got there we were sat fairly quickly and it wasn't soon after our waiter came over. When asked about the soup of the day he said he didn't know, later when he came to get our food orders was asked again figuring he had gone back to the kitchen and asked and he didn't, still had no clue. Great way to describe him, clueless. Also asked about a gluten free menu as it was mentioned online but he said he had no clue where it would be and didn't go ask or look. Good to include that it was not slammed or even slightly busy. Asked for a refill of water and had to ask a second time before it was brought. In the middle of our experience a man walked up to our table begging for money, later the manager had come over and said she followed him out and he had a brand new car and brand new stuff and that she was sorry? Had dinner with my daughter in law an granddaughter on 11/27/2021. This place brings back super fond memories o me an my mom. This was my yearly Birthday spot with her until the stores closed in Indy. Back then they had telephones on every dining table which was so cool, especially when a little kid on the other side of the room would call and giggle on the phone. I ordered a mushroom & swiss burger, and a Strawberry Daiquiri. AMAZING TIMES INFINITY!!!! Burger cooked exactly like I wanted, juicy mushrooms, & perfectly made drink! Max & Erma's was the perfect stop after a long day of walking and shopping. The waitress greeted us with a smile. She explained the happy hour specials and her recommendations. We settled on the Top Shelf Long Island Ice Tea to drink. Next we did the combo special. I tried the tortilla soup, cheese burger and of course the Cookie. The tortilla soup was just how I remembered it. It used to be my favorite here. The burgers, you get to choose your type of cheese, toppings etc. and then the cookie comes out so warm and gooey that it just melts in your mouth. Our waitress made this experience a great one. She was so warm and friendly and we all laughed and joked and had a great time. Now I need to find a location closer to me. Otherwise my trips to Edinburgh will become more frequent. read more

I do believe it is based on who your server is. Based on the previous reviews and our personal experience.... As we were seated, a couple and their 2 children were obviously upset. The lady at that table got up and walked to the back area, came back and said "I can't even find her now".... They proceeded to pack up the kids and leave. As they were walking out they said to us "we've been waiting for our kids drinks for 30 minutes, good luck with your service". We had 8 people in our party. We all got a little nervous immediately.
