Ann's has been in my radar for years. The little cafe off the Square is always packed with locals. Ann's claims to be the oldest restaurant in Franklin, opening in 1952. The cafe is now owned by Diane, Ann's daughter. The tables are packed tightly together, but we were happy to get the last seats in the house. Nostalgic photos of Franklin cover the walls. The place is loud but with a great positive energy. People are small-town friendly and talk between tables as they enjoy their biscuits and gravy. We cajoled with two regulars who told funny stories. Our server, Gill, was quick to the table and friendly. He checked on us several times to see if we needed anything. The menu is a mix of traditional breakfast options, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Prices are reasonable. Food came out quickly. My husband ordered their hand breaded tenderloin with fries. The tenderloin was massive with a great browned breading, served on a Kaiser roll. The pork was tender and juicy. It was a perfect tenderloin, worthy of the Indiana Tenderloin Trail. The hand-cut fries are lightly breaded, crispy and hot. There was an up-charge for the fries, but they were so good and worth it. It was rainy outside, so I had a bowl of the daily soup - broccoli cheddar. The soup was hot, thick, creamy with lots of broccoli and cheese and stuck to my ribs. My soup was served with packs of saltines. Free street parking is available if you're lucky to grab a spot. Small however it moves fast. We placed our names on the list and didn't want long, they seem to turn over tables rather quickly. Went on a Friday around 11 and it was packed, not much room to wait, and the hostess said most days the wait list is pages long so you know it's a popular establishment. Incredible food and incredible mission, great classic diner atmosphere, excellent service, and prime location in downtown Franklin. I have yet to have something here I didn't love, and service is always great. And the added bonus that it's supporting the Tara Treatment Center is an added bonus. Catching them while they're open is the biggest hurdle as they stopped opening on the weekends, but it's worth the extra effort. And the cobblers are a must - save room for one at the end of your meal. You won't regret it! read more

I was in Franklin to run an errand and wanted to stop for breakfast first. It was fairly busy on a Monday morning around 8am. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars. The first thing I noticed how good it smelled from the parking lot before I even got inside. I had a coffee and the scrambler. Everything came out piping hot. The scrambler had hashbrowns, onions, green peppers, scrambled eggs, all topped with sausage gravy. Plus a side of toast. Everything was delicious! My server was attentive and checked on me often. There are about 20 tables inside plus a few tables outside as well. It has a great view of downtown Franklin and it's on separate parking lot. Definitely worth stopping in! read more

Wanted to try out Ann's after driving by it near the downtown square of Franklin. Looked neat like a retro breakfast dinner with its big windows. So the next day we went for brunch since they are only open until 2p. Has the same justly vibe I expected when we went inside. Very busy and lots of staff helping people. You could hear the orders coming up nonstop and lots of people chatting in the Dining area. Neat and not like anything else I've been to in a while. We sat quickly and were helped promptly despite how busy they were and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Always a plus! I ordered the breakfast combo that came with 2 eggs, French toast and I got fried potatoes with it instead of meat since I'm vegetarian. Nice they could accommodate me. The food all came out and looked amazing! Was very impressed with how my eggs were cooked and the French toast with cinnamon roll topping was my fav! The fried potatoes were ok, to me they seemed bland but the meal was so large it didn't matter. I really Enjoyed their delicious French toast!! It was a super cute restaurant in Franklin, IN. The weather was so nice, we sat outside at a picnic table ! I ordered the strawberry spinach salad with a raspberry vinaigrette. Not only was it presented beautifully, it was absolutely delicious ! Definitely more than enough to be filling. We also shared one of their pancakes, deemed "the best around"! Here for lunch today for the first time based on application showing it's pretty good. had to wait a couple minutes for a seat but I was able to sit at the bar and had the buffalo chicken fingers with slaw and cottage cheese. This hopping classic diner in a modern building is welcoming and comfortable. Old pictures, friendly employees, and nostalgic art and menu welcome you to this "since 1952" tradition. It's been given new life by being operated by employees of Tara Treatment Center and using the proceeds to help people get treatment for addiction that they couldn't afford. I ordered the country omelet which is a fried potato omelette topped with sausage gravy. The gravy was a good milk gravy with ground sausage. The omelette was a thin grill style (not my fav but good) filled with potatoes. The potatoes were under seasoned and needed a bit more cooking. It didn't seem like much oil or butter was used in cooking them since they were dry and tasted more like a baked potato with some char on one side. It came with a pancake which of course I upgraded to cinnamon roll topping because of course I did. The pancake was very good. Fluffy with a corn meal taste and the topping wasn't over the top sweet but reminded of a cinnamon rolls flavor. I would come back and try other thing but I wasn't blown away. This would be a 3 1/2 stars if it could be rated that way. read more

The oldest restaurant in Franklin serves breakfast and lunch on the south side of the courthouse. Though the name has changed (formerly Alta's, Ann's sister) and the location has changed, even a fire couldn't put this place out of business. Now, the restaurant can seat about 100 customers who can select their own seating upon entering. The wait staff will take care of you even though there is a counter with seating in the back. I went with the Reuben sandwich which comes with housemade chips. I also got the soup of the day Broccoli Cheese. The soup, which comes with packaged crackers, was a reasonably sized cup with a tasty cheese flavor and small bits of broccoli (not many pieces in my cup.) Good taste and worth ordering. The Reuben came with a small dipping sauce that was too narrow for the sandwich to dip into, so I just drizzle a small amount onto the sandwich for each bite. The marbled rye sandwich was served hot, steaming hot! The sauerkraut must have been freshly made. Just a hint of tart flavor which paired nicely with the savory corned beef flavor. The steaminess of the kraut made the bread get a little soggy, but the sandwich held together. Nice flavor here too! Service was pleasant but it seemed like our waitress had three tables wanting to check out right when two new were seated. Small delay, but not bad. They do offer beverages to go too! First, it's really hard to fault a restaurant that supports a great cause. See the "about" for this restaurant. Very nice! The restaurant has hometown cafe feel. It's obvious this is a popular place for the locals. The wait staff was friendly and the wait time for food wasn't bad considering how busy they were. I had the Santa Fe Omelet. While tasty, the meat could've used a little more taco seasoning. Their were some good bites though so not a bad choice. The best bite of the meal was to one off my partner's plate. My wife and I had breakfast here for the first time. The food was good and the service was friendly and prompt. I had the Franklin Favorite breakfast. It consisted of two eggs (over easy), a large sausage patty and two large pancakes. Everything was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a side of orange juice. It was huge but I finished it. The coffee was mediocre. My wife had French Toast. She said it was exactly the way she likes it. She also had a side of bacon which was thick, crispy and delicious. We searched out a new breakfast spot because we're tired of the same old places. I saw great reviews on Yelp! so we were excited to try it. Breakfast food is my husband's favorite meal of the day and not so much for me so I have to be really impressed. First, it has a retro but chic feel and the decor is more Carmel than Franklin and soooo cute! I love the feel of the place. Staff is very friendly and attentive with a small town vibe. The menu is varied and I love that my husband can get his breakfast food fix while I can eat lunch food in the A.M. Their fried biscuits coated with cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar with apple butter is to die for! So yummy! I've ordered the Rueben sandwich a couple times and I love it. I opt for their hand cut and fried potato ships with a side of ranch dressing. My husband loves their biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy and all the typical breakfast foods. He says his food is always very well prepared and plentiful. Coffee is good and flavored creamer cups are kept at the table. While there are other equally good breakfast places around, you can't beat a great atmosphere, choice of breakfast or lunch food options and super attentive staff. Wow this is the oldest restaurant in Franklin. Didn't know that. They have some outside eating with umbrellas on the tables. We ate inside the temp is 89 at noon today. The inside is nice with old pictures of the town. Inside seating is all tables no booths. The services was quick. Two adults and one child the bill was $28.12. So not bad. I had the cranberry apple chicken wrap with the homemade chips and sweet tea. Mom ate hamburger with Swiss cheese and it had lots of cheese, fries and Diet Coke. The 6 yr old had French toast, bacon and chocolate milk. We ate all of our food this is not a place to go if you don't like noise. It's kinda loud everyone talking in the building. Had a lunch meeting there with one of my clubs. We had the private room upstairs and Tim gave us a short history of Ann's Restaurant and Tara, the rehab center that was founded by the owner. The Restaurant is a not-for-profit enterprise. All profits go to Tara. They also own houses for the Tara guests and some of them volunteer at the restaurant. It's a win-win for everyone, including the diners, who are served delicious food by a friendly and courteous staff. Tucked in the quaint town of Franklin, IN, known for its Antique store shopping, Anns is a perfect example of a small town community partnering together for the greater good. They are open until 2pm and it's fairly crowded during the lunch hour. Prices are very reasonable and our group raved over their menu selections. We were served fresh made chips with ranch dip when we arrived. They do not serve alcohol. I wish my small town had an "Ann" to support our local causes.
