    Hash "whites"

Everything from the forty minute wait to the sausage gravy that was served with a skin on it to the hash"whites" was bad. The only thing edible on my plate was the bacon and two poorly made eggs. This was a very bad experience. Bob is going to get at least a one year timeout. Ick! Hash Browns. It's in the name. I was served hash whites. I was told they can't brown the hash browns because the grill would get too hot and mess up the meat. Although the grill has localized burners, so the cook is just bad.

This is obviously a pretty popular restaurant as there's tons across the country but something has got to be said for their sausage gravy. It's the only reason I venture out to this location. The atmosphere is very chain like, but again, when you come in with this expectation it fits what you are provided. They serve their drinks in a smaller mason jar which is in par with their down home country feel they are trying to portray. It gets pretty crowded on Saturday and Sunday mornings with the breakfast crowd, but I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. They have a wide range of breakfast meals from meat heavy to cinnamon pancakes. They also have healthy options: egg whites, wheat toast, side of fruit etc. It should provide everyone in your group an option. This is a good staple to put in your rotation when you are needing something familiar.

Potatoes we not done the egg was broken and the gravy was older than the planet horrible cooking not worth the money

Not sure why the poor ratings. I had breakfast and my wife had lunch. Both were good and service was fine. No problems.

Broasted chicken what do get in that meal?

I believe you get a family side (dressing, mashed potatoes, carrots, etc. ) and bread if ordering the family meal.

The cafe is now owned by Diane, Ann's daughter. The tables are packed tightly together, but we were happy to get the last seats in the house. Nostalgic photos of Franklin cover the walls. The place is loud but with a great positive energy. People are small-town friendly and talk between tables as they enjoy their biscuits and gravy. We cajoled with two regulars who told funny stories. Our server, Gill, was quick to the table and friendly. He checked on us several times to see if we needed anything. The menu is a mix of traditional breakfast options, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Prices are reasonable. Food came out quickly. My husband ordered their hand breaded tenderloin with fries. The tenderloin was massive with a great browned breading, served on a Kaiser roll. The pork was tender and juicy. It was a perfect tenderloin, worthy of the Indiana Tenderloin Trail. The hand-cut fries are lightly breaded, crispy and hot. There was an up-charge for the fries, but they were so good and worth it. It was rainy outside, so I had a bowl of the daily soup - broccoli cheddar. The soup was hot, thick, creamy with lots of broccoli and cheese and stuck to my ribs. My soup was served with packs of saltines. Free street parking is available if you're lucky to grab a spot. Well worth the drive to Franklin. Ps. They are closed Saturday and Sunday!

And he said the menu will expand again soon. Since I was by myself and he had some time, he sat down and we chatted for awhile. The seating at both restaurants, and you can call them that now since they do not just sell drinks anymore, has been greatly expanded both indoors and outside. He also told me they are working on opening a Plainfield location. I ordered my usual The Slugger on a biscuit for my bread choice (4) with sausage for my meat choice (3) and provolone for my cheese choice (5). It was superb and just how I remembered it from the other location when I was eating breakfast there several days a week about a year ago. I also ordered one Biscuit & Gravy which was excellent as well. I love small local business establishments and cooking. They always have great service and a friendly atmosphere. I parked in the public parking lot across the street since it was a Saturday and street parking was full. The restroom was clean, well stocked and had a pleasant fragrance.

I was worried when we couldn't make any reservations, but we got right in - nobody was waiting, they weren't busy, but they did seem to be scrambling to find a server for us, which I thought was a little odd. After a weird start, the rest of the visit was fantastic - service was great, food was excellent, and we had a lovely time on a date night. Restrooms are on the first floor (an older review says the women's is downstairs in a creepy hallway, but this must have been renovated) and are single-occupancy and unisex, which is an interesting experience depending on who has visited before you -- this was probably the low point of the experience, that restroom could use some upkeep. Not just an unpleasant previous visitor, but structurally. For such a nice place, that part was sketchy. Definitely will be coming back overall.
