    Trout with corn & grits.

This is one of our stand by places to eat. Every time the food is great, as is the service. This time both my wife & I tried something we've not had here before. She got the grilled chicken salad & I got the trout with grits & corn. Both were very good. Neither of us needed a nap afterward, which we normally would want, as we would be absolutely stuffed!! These two meals were just right. Our waitress was attentive & engaging, noting right away that I drink water like a fish. We will, of course, be back soon.

Cracker Barrel is generally very consistent and this store is no different... The front General Store part is full of sparkly knickknacks, usual candy options, fun (and expensive) toys for the littles, and a variety of shirts and scarves to satisfy you Great Aunt B. The food was fine - the service was fine - the noise is LOUD (they really could use some baffles - but I honestly believe they encourage the loudness so people are not thrilled to just hang out - Cracker Barrel is all about Get em In Get em Out!) It's not my favorite bfast spot but ok for a change

A cute typical Cracker Barrel when you come in, the porch is full of rockers and the store full of Knick knacks and old fashion candy. The fire in the sitting area was roaring! We were sat right away and attended to by a efficient and kind server. Food was delivered speedily and tasted just like it should! Crispy bacon, fluffy pancakes, yummy biscuits and gravy, grits and eggs! Drinks were refilled quickly multiple times.

    Grandma's Sampler French Toast Breakfast

I have not been to a Cracker Barrel since 2017 so I had lower expectations post-COVID. We arrived on New Year's Day so it was no surprise that it was crowded and that service would be slower. When we stepped inside the dining area, I was immediately claustrobic by how many people were eating and quietly prayed they wouldn't seat us in the middle where I knew I'd have a hard time as a bigger woman getting in and out of my seat. It reminded me of Lambert's in Sikeston, MO. Our waitress and fellow waiters/waitresses physically appeared overwhelmed and worn out by the diners. We arrived around 11:15am. Our waitress put our drink orders in (mimosas and coffee) but did not take our food order until a good hour later. It took another hour for us to receive our food. Had I not had coffee to tie me over, I would of requested my bill and went elsewhere. My best friend had never been to any Cracker Barrel restaurants and ordered lunch (country fried steak with white gravy, broccoli and mashed potatoes with dark gravy) while my partner and I ordered breakfast (Old Timer's Breakfast and Grandma's French Toast Sampler). When the food came out, it seemed to match the pictures so I was hopeful it would taste as good as 2017. Well that was not the case. I had the french toast sampler so it was nothing special. The eggs, although I asked for cheese on top seemed kind of dry and plaster like. My partner had the Old Timer's breakfast and it the worst tasteLESS gravy I've ever had in my entire life. When he poured the gravy onto his biscuits, it had the consistency of jello before it became somewhat solid. I screamed as it came out as once piece out of the bowl. We don't send food back and was prepared to hit the road back to St. Louis so we figured we will stop elsewhere (gas station) for a snack or something worthwhile. My friend broke open her country fried steak and asked what was it really holding up what looked like chewed up meat that was hidden in a fried shell. I was grossed out for her. She said the broccoli was ok but too buttery. I tried a piece and agreed. She said the brown gravy was good but nothing else really. Our waitress gave us our bill and thankfully I could pay it online using the barcode because it was a million humans in the store and none of them would move out the way for us to exit. I felt like I had to loudly exclaim excuse me for people to barely move out of my way. I felt like we wasted our time and money and due to this experience, I probably will never dine at another Cracker Barrel.

The feel on the inside is antique, and has an added effect from the dim lighting. Our server last night handled our large party well, and I never once had to ask for a refill. There is an extensive menu offering. My previous visit we had the homemade chips and ranch, fried pickles, and I had a shallos tenderloin. The homemade chips and ranch is a can't miss. The fried pickles were unique in that they were pickle spears instead of pickle chips- also served with ranch, and also great. The shallos tenderloin- the meat had a nice grill to it, and the toppings on it were plentiful. I've also had the tenderloin and chicken wings before- both equally as good. Would highly recommend anyone to try this place out!

Our waitress came by and we ordered a beer and an iced tea. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea which I did not drink, it was not plain unsweetened tea. Seemed like it had a lot of artificial lemon in it, not sure, but I know I did not like it. The hubby had a Corona and our friend had a pitcher of beer. We perused the menus and it did take a good while for the waitress to come back and take the order. The hubby ordered a hamburger and fries and our friend had the buffalo chicken wrap and I ordered the twice baked tater skins. The husband said his fries were cold and the burger looked like a frozen patty as it was perfectly formed and it was just ok. I may have ordered the wrong dish myself as I did not care for the potato cheese mixture that was inside so I ended up stripping all the insides out and just ate the skins themselves. Husband had to flag down the waitress to get the bill and keep in mind that they were not busy. It is a typical bar atmosphere in here with TVs all around the perimeter. We were sitting at a high-top table but they had both low and high.

We sat on the heated patio and it was so nice and warm. We split the huge Bavarian pretzel for an appetizer. I've had this before at the Castleton location and it was as good as I remember. Both the nacho cheese raspberry wasabi mustard are good too. The snack size boneless wings are enough for a meal for sure. I went with the Hermaican flavor. They smelled so good. There wasn't a lot of spice so I think I prefer the No-Way and Three mile Island sauces I've had in the past. I also would've liked more celery and carrots but that's just a personal preference and most people are probably more than ok with just a veggie garnish. My brother had the tenderloin and my mom had the burger. They both enjoyed them. There are lots of tv's everywhere you look, prefect for sports. This time around the Winter Olympics were on. It's definitely not a great set up for a band (too small, feel like you are sitting on the speakers, reverb) - so if you want conversation, this wouldn't be the place for you on Fridays. The seltzer selection was limited, but most people show up for the beers so not a big deal. The food has never disappointed. I tried the new Naki Burger and it was delicious! Definitely recommend trying it if you like the hermanaki style profile.
