Everything here is gluten-free and also delicious. It's quite pricey but so are the ingredients that they use. We especially love their sugar cream pies as they are individual sized and are great for my wife and her dad who both eat gluten-free. You won't be disappointed even if you can have gluten. I unfortunately didn't have the best experience here however, the atmosphere was so warm and cozy and I love the location. I ordered a grilled cheese along with a sugar pie slice and a London fog. They have other baked good options which looked good too. The grilled cheese was very small and I think cheese got into the pan because it was also cooked onto the bottom side of the sandwich. It was a very small grilled cheese. The London fog tasted quite strong and the sugar pie didn't really stand out. There were other items on the menu though that I'd love to try if I ever go back. What I think took this down to 3 stars was the service. When I went to order, I was just stared at and I thought maybe they weren't ready for me yet but they were. There was just no greeting of "Hi, welcome in" or even a "What can I get for you?" It was just a stare and silence. Now the staff were not unkind...they certainly seemed friendly but that lack of greeting didn't feel great. Additionally, they were very quiet or mumbled when calling out orders and so it seemed like many people listening never heard their order including me. I also had to ask again for the pie after having paid. I bought a bandana as well and didn't see the price tag. When I asked how much it was the staff member said it was either 12 or 15 dollars. She rang it up as 15 when later I saw the price tag and it clearly said $12. I showed the staff member and she said it was $15 and it was a handwriting issue for the price tag. I rarely write reviews less than five stars but I do think if there could be a bit more initiative from the staff and orders called out more clearly and louder for drinks so they don't spoil that would really help. read more

This place was packed! The inside is small, but cozy and there are spaces to sit - the window bar seat looks to be the best because then you can look outside to see what's going on in downtown Franklin. I ordered a butterbeer latte, then noticed some winter menu flavors so I'm definitely going back for those. They serve Calvin Fletcher coffee (a coffee roaster/shop in downtown Indy) and that was nice to see local supporting local! Good place if you are looking for a cozy place to cool down or hang out when you are not in a rush. What impressed me the most is the decor and lighting. The yellow vintage bulbs with wooden tables and retro-indie wall decor makes you feel welcomed. Our server was kind but forgetful, and the service was not the fastest. Good pastries and coffee but not 5-star worthy in my opinion. Coffee is very tasty, but matcha can be watery. Peanut butter cookies were not maintained fresh although the flavor is good. Stopped in for a coffee, snack and to chill for a bit. This place was great! The ladies running it were happy and friendly, and were chitty chatting in a way that made it feel homey. I loved the caramel cream latte I had!!! I have to do nonfat or alt milk now and whatever almond milk they used went with it so well. I also was a pain and asked for it half sweet, and even with my preferences, t was so good! Also tried the vegan banana chocolate chip muffin with it (yeah I have a sweet tooth but I'm trying haha) and it was also delicious. In fact, I want to figure out how to make something similar at home but I already know mine won't be as good. This is a 100% Gluten free bakery. Great vibes, great food and friendly service. I tried the blonde Cuban sandwich which was really good. Perfect size not overly filling. Also tried the sugar cream pie bite which was absolutely amazing. I didn't know if I was going to like it but boy was I surprised! It has a cinnamon flavor great crust and very smooth sugar cream on the inside. You must try this. They sell earrings, bracelets and some other boutique like items and local art. I came as an out of town guest on a Saturday morning at 10am. Plenty of free parking out front and plenty of places to sit. Service was not quick, but I was not in a rush. Everything is gluten free and downright delicious. Between my friend and I, we tried the biscuits and gravy, cinnamon roll, and banana chocolate chip muffin. I recommend them all! They do have more than baked goods, so check them out for lunch or breakfast. They also have kombucha on tap with some delicious sounding flavors. On a gorgeous fall day when just a few leaves were gently falling and blowing in the warm breeze I stumbled upon 1823 Bakehouse . I was in the area on business so I checked my Yelp app for the best lunch eats in Franklin. Luckily I found an open parking spot right in front of this coffeeshop. After lunch on the way back to the car I noticed this gorgeous little coffee shop and decided to pop in. I'm so glad I did! It's so cute! Like really really cute. I didn't catch the baristas name but she was so nice! They have coffee, lattes, smoothies, baked goods, quiche, sandwiches and more! I got a latte and a blueberry muffin which were equally delicious. There is also a store inside that has various eco friendly goods like soaps, detergents and shampoos. Love that! HIGHLY recommend 1823 Bakehouse. I ordered the double chocolate muffins because they told me they were vegan. I do not need to eat gluten free but these were hands down some of the best muffins I have ever tasted. I also ordered an oat milk latte which was very tasty. This is a nice spot right in downtown Franklin. Will definitely be back and bring family members who require gluten free food. read more

I have driven by this place many times and finally made time to stop with my kids. We came on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't busy at all, so we were able to park right in front of the building. The inside is clean and nicely decorated with lots of things for sale on shelves. We picked up some tea and stickers as gifts and will be back for other things eventually! The food was great! we got some kind of pumpkin roll cake, cinnamon roll muffin, and chocolate muffin. I even was able to grab a dairy free banana bread for a friend! We sat and ate at the window and watched the goings on around downtown. The woman working at the register was super helpful when helping me pick out a tea. We were in Franklin, walking around the square on a Sunday, and noticed a sign for a gluten free bakery. I immediately had to check it out! The staff was very welcoming. We browsed the menu - a chalkboard on the wall - and found both some bakery items and main dishes that we wanted to take home. The German chocolate brownie was my favorite, followed closely by the homemade peanut butter cup. We also grabbed soups (poblano cheese and chili), along with some quiche for breakfast. This place was amazing!! Every single thing we tried was really good and the staff helped me pick out a tea. I took home some nutcracker tea. The egg biscuit sandwich had the most delicate, crumbly cornbread texture, the quiche was really cheesy and savory, and the cinnamon roll was to die for - crispy on the outside somehow but also not too sweet and lots of cinnamon! I have visited this place several times under its previous name and now several under its new name. Each time i have been pleasantly surprised by the menu and drink options. As someone with a gluten sensitivity, it is a breath of fresh air knowing that I can eat ANYthing on the menu and not have a reaction. I have enjoyed the fresh kombucha they have on tap, bottled kombucha, tacos, nachos, and cookies. All are delicious!! They have indoor seating, as well as some outdoor seating available if that's more your jam. If you are gluten free, you'll love this place. Even if you aren't, you won't be able to tell a difference because the handmade food items are so well done and not like other places that offer dense or gritty options. I previously gave 1823 4 stars, but visited on Mother's Day after craving biscuits and gravy. I was there the minute they opened and the lady bringing out my food was sweet as can be. I ate the biscuits and gravy in the car because I couldn't wait the 25 minute ride home. The biscuits were the best GF biscuits I've ever had! My daughter devoured the icing filled cinnamon muffin (a previous negative review of mine) and she also loved the smoothie that they topped with extra whipped cream because their ice maker had a malfunction the previous night. Review is only based on location/atmosphere. We were excited about going to this place but unfortunately were unable to try anything once we got there. We went specifically for the gluten free biscuits and gravy with hope of a dairy free gravy option as they note on website ability to cater to non-dairy. The website says that they have gluten free biscuits and gravy with an hour wait but when we got there, we were told that you have to order one day ahead. Disappointing since we had driven 40 minutes. The place is very small and crowded so there wasn't room to get food, wait or sit and eat. They have LOTS of merch from floor to ceailing which takes up a lot of the space and makes it feel even more crowded. It was cold outside, crowded inside and we had a long drive back so we just left. We intend to go back and give it another try in the summer. We especially like to support small business that have gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options so I wish the best for this place. read more

Nice lil spot to eat with restrictions. To someone with a gluten allergy gluten free b's n g's is like a miracle. The biscuits are kind of a corny mix, which I didn't expect but embraced and really liked the change. Out of the two biscuits, red pepper and goat cheese beat up on the sausage a lil but I could have just enjoyed the change, both were very good. I think the eggs are microwaved but the texture worked. As someone with celiac, I have to eat gluten free, and it's SO hard to find great baked goods. I was so excited to finally visit 1823 after following along with their social media for awhile. I got a German chocolate brownie that totally exceeded my expectations--it was moist and delicious. My fiancé got the French toast pastry with warm syrup that he really enjoyed. The kids got a chocolate donut and a cookie dough bar. They commented that their items tasted like dark chocolate, which was a little more bitter than they would have liked, but they still ate the treats!
