A friend recently recommended this deli and it was really nice! It's located downtown and the vibe is casual. They also had some nice outdoor seating. They have some pretty nice daily specials and didn't have to wait long for my sandwich. I tried the "Fiery Turkeyinator" which was the special of the day which came broccoli cheddar soup and a fountain drink. Great lunch stop with quality sandwiches and soups. The prices are very reasonable and the daily specials are a real value. They handled a big rush professionally. We looked on Yelp for a nice place to grab a quick sandwich/lunch, traveling from Frankfort to home. Decided Mt Pleasant looked nice. The atmosphere was ok- not the cleanest (cleaned our own table). We ordered a New Yorker, basically a Rueben with coleslaw and Russian dressing. The coleslaw was MINIMAL (we actually opened the sandwich and had to look for it). The Russian Dressing? I forgot it was even on there. And the corned-beef? It was the kind you'd get out of a lunch meat prepackaged deli pack. I ate a few bites, but just couldn't eat it. I was expecting a delicious deli sandwich- ok maybe not a Zingerman's Deli Reuben, but at least something palatable. Should have picked another place. read more

Gluten free eater. All sandwich's all day. They have soup and salads. But apparently known for their salad. All sandwich's and burgers come with potato chips. My friend for a black bean burger wrap. She loved the taste and it was quite filling. Her daughter had a melt with au jus. She really loved it. Hers wasn't pressed. But mine and my friends was pressed. They take care in how they prepare their food. I got the pesto burger on gluten free. The cheese was so good for mozzarella. The pesto had good flavor. They are not a dedicated gluten free establishment. But they accommodated me. Must get the broccoli cheddar soup. It is the perfect blend of cheese broccoli and cheddar. Puts all other broccoli and cheddar soups to shame! PHENOMENAL experience all around as this is such a cute little eatery. The daily special comes with a small soup, pickle, and a drink. The homemade ciabatta bread just melts in your mouth. Stopped in for lunch and it was totally worth it! Very affordable for a family of four, and we all love our meals! The food, employees and atmosphere did not disappoint. I see why it has such good reviews. I had the Russian sandwich and a side salad. The sandwich was packed with meat, veggies and a homemade Russian dressing; of which I HAD to have on my salad. Hubby had the Cuban. We were very happy that Yelp steered us to the downtown area for food. FYI- When we went to the counter to place our order, we were told that it was a slow day and that the line is usually much longer. Just ate here for lunch. Huge menu, which was great but my friends and I all had different versions of the Rueben which was such a wise choice. You could literally hear the crunch when you bit into the sandwich. I got the #7 Broadway sandwich and the combo of the meat, sauce and coleslaw was brilliant. It's easy enough to order at the counter, we sat outside and they brought our food to us then you just bring dishes back into the restaurant. Very quaint, small restaurant. You can tell it's very much a local hangout which is my favorite kind of place to go when I'm visiting a town. Mt.Pleasant High School had a fundraiser, you could purchase a cheese cake from Max and Emily's. We bought the Caramel Apple Cheesecake. It was a huge hit! Everyone loved it and even had a second piece!!! I should have ordered more. I plan on stocking up for Christmas. read more

Went in here at 3:20. They close at 4:00. They were already moving chairs, vacuuming and bringing in furniture from patio. Don't appreciate hearing a vacuum cleaner 10 feet from my table when I am trying to relax and enjoy a sandwich. Very rude! On the positive side they have a great variety of sandwiches and mine was very good. A little small but good. Staff was very friendly. Would not go out of my way to go back. If they want to leave at 4:00 they should close at 3:30. Many restaurants do this and I find it rude. Also, they need to update their hours on Yelp read more

Despite going to college at CMU, I never went to Max & Emily's during my tenure as an undergrad. I only checked them out this year. I'm glad I did. It's a quaint little homegrown deli and bakery with more sandwich options than Zingerman's (which it kinda reminds me of). As a vegetarian, I was pleased to see that they had six sandwiches available that fit my lifestyle. The black bean fiesta was delicious and they make the black bean burger in-house! I also had a dumpling soup that was very good. I loved how small and cozy it felt in the shop. We ate in the little enclave next to the window while it rained outside. Every town has a place where anyone who's anybody stops in to visit. Max & Emily's is that place in Mt. Pleasant. There is a reason why they are the frequent provider of food to visiting athletic teams to Central Michigan University, and to the national television crews covering the game. The extensive menu of sandwiches covers a wide range of tastes from your basic ham or turkey sandwich, all the way up to various grilled paninis, rolled sandwiches, and most recently, artisan hamburgers. Various freshly made salads and soups are on the menu, too. Finally, a wide range of pastries and baked goods round out the options for dessert. Anyone who is familiar with Zingermann's in Ann Arbor, Michigan will feel right at home here. In addition to their stellar lunch menu, a smaller breakfast menu is provided, and great coffee and espresso-based drinks are served throughout the day. While not typically an evening dining location, their recent expansion into artisan burgers (the Pesto Burger with fresh mozzarella is incredible) has made this a worthwhile stop for the after-5 crowd. It's also worthwhile to stop by when the town is holding community festivals, as they often take to the sidewalk with an outdoor cooking station and serve various hot items not typically offered on their indoor menu. The decor is homey and nice, and the previous reviewer's mention of the artwork - while not always great - isn't actually being sold by Max & Emily's, but by the artists themselves. Fulfilling their long-running commitment to the local community, the restaurant provides space for artists to show off their work. In addition, you'll see all kinds of memorabilia from famous guests that have stopped by, to photos and and artifacts from the local university. While most seating is indoor, they do have outdoor tables on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant during warmer weather. Limited parking is available on the street in front of the restaurant, and there's even more parking in a lot directly behind the restaurant (there's a rear entrance to Max & Emily's, too). The food is great, the staff is unbelievably friendly, and the menu options are incredibly diverse. It's worth checking out this local gem the next time you're in Mt. Pleasant. read more

Came here for lunch before the CMU football game. First of all, loved the location. Very nice historic downtown area. The menu was quite large and the atmosphere was very nice. The food was very good but a bit pricey. This was actually one of the more expensive meals we had while in town but still worth it. I would certainly come back if in town. read more
