This is my go to breakfast place when I come to Mt. Pleasant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the classic small town/city breakfast spot. A great cross section of regulars, college students and parents visiting there college students. Their western omelet is done the right way, with the ham, onions and peppers mixed into the eggs and not just a filling. The toast is thick cut white or wheat, with Smuckers Jelly. I always use the type of jelly/jam offered as a quick way to see if a restaurant cares about quality. If they offer generic jam/jelly packets then in My opinion their first concern is cost. If the restaurant offers Smuckers then I know that the restaurant understands that cheap.is sometime expensive. When I first walked in it looked like the place had not been cleaned in quite some time. The brown stained carpet and literal holes in the booth seat should have sent me running. Yes holes, not a small tear in the seat but you can see padding (or lack there of) and springs on the seat. Food was greasy and nothing exciting. To start off, I've been coming to Stan's for over 20 years, and the food has always been amazing. Fantastic service, best French toast I've ever had, and a friendly atmosphere, until yesterday. I am high-risk for getting sick, and Stan's is so packed that I wear a mask to keep from succumbing to whatever going around. As soon as I sat down, the cook from the open window between us started shouting epithets at me and my mother. He had lots to say about "this is America" and some unkind things that made us both terribly uncomfortable. I brought it up with our waitress (a wonderful woman), and she told the manager. I used to go to Central Michigan University and was in town visiting so I had to go back to Stan's. I had their homemade chicken noodle soup which had a great flavor, a bit creamy, and homemade noodles. This is by far the best chicken noodle soup I've had. For breakfast the next day I had the #5 with two poached eggs, bacon, hash browns, and homemade wheat toast. All of this was great and cooked perfectly. Get here early on weekend mornings. I arrived around 9-9:30 on a Saturday morning and had a little bit of a wait. This was not the most clean or upscale place in the world, that meaning it looked like the last time it was remodeled was 20 years ago. I was a bit surprised at how expensive it was for breakfast because the overall appearance of this restaurant with ripped dated seats and wall paper from the 90s. The tables were extremely close together and it was difficult to navigate through the full restaurant. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. After placing our orders there was a bit of a wait because the whole place was packed. Although people do not come here for the views they do come for quality food. I enjoyed my French toast breakfast, it really tasted homemade. I wouldn't have thought twice about the price if it was a little more updated and not so crammed. read more

I tried Stan's for the first time for breakfast on a Sunday. The place was nearly full, but getting a table for two was no problem even during brunch rush. Very mixed crowd -- plenty of CMU students who were in town for the summer session alongside a well represented contingent of retirees, plus everyone else in between (such as us). The good: the breakfast. We had a great veggie omelet with green peppers, mushrooms, onions and tomato, and we couldn't resist the blueberry pancakes on special, which were fluffy and delicious. The hash browns were as they should be -- shredded and cooked grill-top with a crunchy outside and a little grease in the middle. The bad. There are two reasons that Stan's will not be our go-to joint for weekend breakfasts on a regular basis. First, while our server was friendly and attentive, the wait for our food was ridiculously long -- especially considering the short-order fare. We went in hungry, and by the time our food came out 30 minutes after ordering (!), we were starved. Our server was apologetic (somewhere around the 20 minute mark) and assured us that the wait was unusual. Stan's promotes itself as a "home cookin" kind of place -- but home cooking shouldn't always mean slow cooking, especially for eggs and pancakes. We'll try it again with hopes for a better experience, but I might have a snack in advance. Second, the coffee was awful. I mean, terrible. (Please work on this, Stan's!) I'm not a total coffee snob, but I enjoy a good cup. What Stan's was serving was so weak that it tasted like the third pot brewed from the same grounds. The food was good enough to tempt me back for an omelet now and then, but I have a feeling I will find myself running down the street to Fifi's French Press as soon as I finish my meal. read more

Both times I have checked the hours online and both times it says their open but when we show up there's a sign in the door saying their closed. I was in town for business with CMU and was told this was a good place to eat. Apparently, we looked like out-of-towners because we waited 10 minutes for our drinks and a menu while others just shouted out their orders with no hesitation. The turkey sandwich was all mayo and no turkey. Lettuce and tomato would cost a FEW DOLLARS? I admit the bread was fresh and good but that's not why I get a sandwich. We visited Stan's for breakfast recently -- O-dark-thirty in the morning, with just a few other diners. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the place; it's really the cleanest old-skool diner I've ever been in for a long time. We ordered basic egg-meat-potatoes-toast breakfasts; the bread is homemade and very good, the over-easy eggs were prepared just right, the potatoes had a good brownness ratio and the sausage patties were tasty if a little small. The waitperson knew the other diners by first name, and the other diners knew one another -- it was like "Cheers" in there; kind of a nice vibe for us travelers there for the first time. The breakfast menu also includes items like pancakes and omelets. We've also heard that the luncheon items are good if you're in a nothing-fancy, diner mood. Service was great- our waitress was friendly, prompt, and attentive with coffee (standard diner coffee by the way) and water refills. The breakfast menu is large- mostly with the standard breakfast options (eggs, meat, potatoes, etc). Daily specials include biscuits and gravy, which I had, and blueberry pancakes. Food came quickly and was delicious. Bonus- Frank's Red Hot sauce was delivered with ketchup! The bill for 4 people came to less than $30. I had breakfast here this morning. As other have said, the homemade toast is awesome! The service as also very friendly and attentive. I should say this was a weekday morning in the summer so I'm not sure how it is when the college kids are back in town or on a weekend morning. It was relatively busy as it was and the service was great. The food selection is like many diners you would find, it kind of reminded me of a coney island (which I love). I was very disappointed with the service at Stans. When we walked in, the hostess yelled at me and my friend for walking in and than they were very rude when we asked questions. However, despite the bad service I was the most shocked to see that not a single worker was wearing a mask in the midst of this pandemic. It is just simply unsanitary and extremely unsafe. Stan's is a great breakfast joint. I will agree with other reviews that I've seen that their coffee is a little weak, but every time I have gone to Stan's, I have had prompt, friendly service, and my coffee cup was rarely empty. If you know how to treat waitstaff and ask for things and be polite, you can get whatever you need in this place. I prefer my coffee, no matter the strength, with lots of sugar, and every time I come in, I ask for some extra sugar and they bring me a bowl of packets and say to let them know if I need more. If you're planning to try Stans, expect it to be busy, especially in the mid to late morning, and bring cash, as, as of the time of writing, they do not accept credit or debit cards. However, they will allow you to run across the street to the ATM to get money for your bill. They're very trusting and I love the hometown, small, hole-in-the wall diner feel of the place. If it sounds like your cup of tea, coffee, or excellent hot cocoa with whipped cream and cinnamon, head on over and get yourself one of their glorious morning muffins, grilled, of course! read more

This is the best place in town for breakfast. There is nothing I've gotten from here that I didn't love. Their omelettes are without a doubt my favorite. I usually get the Farmers omelet which comes with ham, mushroom, green pepper, onion, tomato, and hash browns inside! Oh my, that's good! We need more places like Stan's. Fresh homemade cooking. 1st visit arrived around 10:45 and had to choose between breakfast specials of blueberry pancakes , biscuits and gravy or lunch turkey specials. Optioned for the fresh hot oven roasted turkey with mashed on homemade bread. I also tried the chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. This place is plating up wonderful food. Screw all these crappy reviews. Stan's has food I dream about! It may be because I spent my formative junior high and high school years going to Stan's as much as I possibly could but even now that I live in NYC and have access to so many different restaurants, I still crave Stan's cold turkey sandwich (extra mayo) and french fries. Everything is homemade at Stan's...hams and turkeys are roasted to get the meat for the turkey sandwiches and ham sandwiches, bread is baked early in the morning, the meatloaf is fresh and tasty. And their soups, their homemade noodle heavy chicken noodle soup and their creamy potato ham soups, are perfect. Stan's is one of the best hometown diners in any town. I seek them out when I travel and have found few that compare with Stan's. My only complaint is their coffee has never been strong enough for me but I complain about the strength of all coffees in Mt. Pleasant so it's not enough to dock them a star or even a half star. Everyone else who drinks coffee there seems to love it. Now I am definitely going to have to visit Stan's when I am home for Thanksgiving! read more

I saw great reviews about their chicken soup so I got a bowl to go and would make a 2 Hour Drive to have it again LOL.. Its like a creamy chicken and dumpling!
