I work at CMU once a year and often have time before my shift to grab breakfast. I'm familiar with Ponder Coffee from their location in the Health Professions building where I work, but I wanted to check out this downtown location. I loved it! The location is great and I was able to find street parking nearby pretty easily (although it was during CMU's winter break). I got a breakfast burrito with sausage, bacon, cheddar, and potato, and an oat milk latte. The employee taking my order was patient and friendly. The space isn't huge but I was able to get a small high top table near the front window to read and enjoy my breakfast. The latte was very delicious and creamy, and the breakfast burrito was huge! I loved that it came with salsa and sour cream. I definitely could have saved half for later, but it was so good that I smashed the whole thing. The seating wasn't super comfortable, but I was able to hang out for about an hour or so, reading and having a nice warm meal. Loved my visit to this Ponder Coffee and will definitely go back in the future. read more

Huge fan of Ivy, especially their outdoor dining area, but last night I had a dinner reservation for a group and was told when we arrived it was for Coco Cabana. I've never made a reservation there (or for Varley) but this was the second time they've tried to tell me my reservations were for there. When I make an online reservation, at Ivy's address, there's no option to select Coco Cabana, so I don't know why there has happened multiple times. It seems like they're trying to force people to go to their less popular restaurant, which feels unethical and is very off putting. With this said, the bartender is phenomenal, he makes great cocktails. And the staff have always been very friendly and engaging. read more

I'd been to the other Ponder locations around CMU's campus, but I think this one is the best. Even towards the end of their day, the staff was friendly and polite. Plenty of seating, though a little cramped. Menus right by the door for easy access. Bathrooms are located in the back hallway and through a mudroom, which is a little weird but all in all appreciated. It definitely gives off the "small town cafe" vibe. Especially being right there on Broadway, this place likely gets plenty of business, and I would recommend it to others simply due to their diversity in drinks and food. read more

When Ponder opened many years ago, it was such a welcome surprise to downtown! I live on the West Coast (Bay area, now Seattle) and would come back to visit my family every summer. There weren't many coffee options (imo) years ago and Ponder was within walking distance from my Mom's house so every morning, my husband and I would walk up and get a pourover. The coffee has always been superb and the quality beyond many we've experienced in bigger cities. Unfortunately, pourovers are no longer offered but on my last visit, I had the batch brew of their Murrandia from Kenya. The mango and lime flavors knocked my socks off! We were visiting from out of town and wanted to take my wife's mother out to breakfast & get good coffee. Ponder had excellent reviews & a nice website so we checked it out. Was totally worth it... The breakfast sandwiches are fresh & unique - good variety.... And named after characters from the popular TV show 'The Office' ! The donuts are made fresh and almost taste like sweet bread vs a typical donut. The coffee is very unique and delicious - we had the Karuhiu from Kenya (which has 'intense' notes of raspberry & blackberry) - we bought a bag. The staff was friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating as well for nice days. Several came in from around the state who said this is 'the only place they come to for coffee & breakfast'. (Bonny's Cleanup Crew) I was in town from Houston, Texas this weekend and finally got to see what all the hype was about. Such a cute coffee shop! We tried Ponder for the first time and it was amazing! The employees were helpful and nice, the establishment was clean and the service was quick. I do think that the coffee is a little overpriced, however, that would not stop me from going back again. I got the Iced Salted Caramel Latte (which I'm still dreaming about) and my friend got the Iced Lavender Vanilla Latte - she did say the lavender was a little overpowering but if you like a stronger aroma then that's definitely the vibe for you!! read more

I love the Salted Caramel Latte iced. I can't yet get passed it to try the many other drinks they offer. My daughter says the Lavender Vanilla Latte is on slammmm! The gluten-free waffle has a perfect texture of crunchy outside and moist inside, just needs salt added to the batter. The Frittatas are really good. But the pièce de résistance is their croissant, both the butter and the chocolate! They are the most amazing I have ever had. Flaky outside and like air on the inside. I am addicted to these little bundles of deliciousness. This location is small but comfortable on the inside and they have outside deck seating as well. The staff is nice and efficient. Be sure to get your loyalty card which gives you a free drink after the 10th stamp. This is my new goto coffee spot! They have a second location which I look forward to visiting soon. read more

After recently moving from Los Angeles it was important to me that I find a craft coffee company. I believed it was going to be a long shot in Mid-Michigan, but thank God for Ponder because it helped me transition from SoCal to rural Michigan much quicker. The downtown location is pretty small and cramped. On a busy Saturday it is often standing room only and makes me want to turn around and go somewhere else. It is probably impossible to increase the seating, but if they could get more space it would make the experience that much better. The coffee is the best in the area and well priced for what they do. I am sad that cold brew goes off the menu in the winter, but it makes sense. I'll get the drip, but on a good day I'll order the pour over because I am a snob. It is worth it. The food is worth ordering. My wife and I love waffles and it makes date days fun to share one of those. The breakfast burritos are delicious too! I do not think you could go wrong ordering food from here. I'd recommend this place any day. It is a second office for me in certain seasons of life and good place to meet with friends over the best coffee in mid-Michigan. read more

Mount Pleasant is lucky to have such a cool little coffee destination. Not only is the coffee top notch, the food is also outstanding. When I travel for work, I rarely go to the same place twice, however, I stopped by for breakfast/lunch three times in the same week here.
