The best thing I can say about this place is that the building is absolutely beautiful. It's large, there's tons of seating, I'm also assuming there are outlets to go with that seating so you could work in there if you wanted. It's connected to other businesses. Although they care far more about their drive-through than those other businesses because definitely one of them has an external door that you would have to cross the drive-through to get to, which is just rude. But that's honestly where all the stars end. The coffee is mediocre. The menu is mediocre. You can get whatever you get everywhere else here and it will taste fine. There's zero originality in their menu. Where it truly goes downhill is their employees. How are you going to be two blocks from downtown Midland and not have any awareness of the area and be able to direct an out-of-towner to a nice place to walk? Perhaps I have high hopes for the intellectual capabilities of barista's in a medium sized town's coffee shop, but these employees are sure to disappoint you if you want to do anything other than order coffee and get your order. Whatever you do, don't expect any level of conversation. They absolutely cannot deliver. On top of that, their motto appears to be "love people," but that only extends so far as I guess their customers. They love people except for when they employ those people. When they employ those people, they love to micromanage them and force them to have an outdated dress code of black shirts. What are they some sort of indentured servant? Go somewhere else. I recently visited their new Live Oak East location, off of Eastlawn. As the former Grove Tea Lounge, Live Oak has made this location into a very hospitable place! Good coffee, friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere to chat with friends or even do some work. We were visiting Midland for a niece's graduation. We visited Live Oak Twice during our stay. They have a large selection of coffees that they roast themselves. Unlike a major chain, their coffee doesn't taste like burnt beans. The coffee had a nice flavor, with a strong finish that isn't bitter. Their syrups are also made in house. For the ones we tried, they were delicious. Not sugary sweet, so you can actually decern the various flavors. There was a board with the staff's choices, one being a Cinnamon and Brown Sugar, my partner enjoyed it and it was fantastic when she let me try it. I had both the Caramel Latte and Macchiato. I was pleased with both. Even though we didn't get any, they had a good selection of Gluten Free options. The food is also made in house, meaning that they make these gluten free options on their own. Unlike many other chains and local shops that don't have any Gluten Free options, even if they are resold versions of major brands. That shows a care for those in the community that either for medical reasons or by choice eat Gluten Free. The environment in the shop is warm and inviting. Whether you are having a conversation with friends, reading a book, or trying to work on your laptop you'll find an area for you. The staff was friendlier than what I expect from a coffee shop. Usually they will great you, but they're more about getting your order and moving on to the next customer. The staff here would answer questions and where informative. Surprisingly, many of them were knowledgeable not only about the coffee, but the business itself. Do not sleep on Live Oak Coffee. You'll regret it. read more

Boring. They buy out a great little place called Grove tea and turn it into a boring and bland coffee shop. They ask what they should keep and haven't done anything to keep it the same. We miss our actual good food from Grove as well as our tea options and boba. There are plenty of boring coffee places around. It's sad what has happened to the old Grove Tea Lounge. read more

We had an amazing experience both times we came in during our visit, this tells me they are consistent! We came in with family and asked a lot of questions, and they were super patient with us and the woman helping us explained everything! We asked about food and drinks and they were patient and kind the entire time. Our coffees were awesome, definitely handcrafted with love. My oat milk latte was creamy and hot and went so well with the muffin. It was just perfect. I also enjoyed a no nonsense bar. If you like oats and peanut butter, this is for you. So good. Great to go food, and they also make It in house. The kitchen is open so you can see everything being made. I love that feature in any eatery. There's a lot of places to sit here, upstairs seems quieter with small tables, and downstairs there is a variety of high tops and lot tables and a lounge area with soft chairs. There's books and games so being kids or being a book. It's a great place to hang out. They also sell their beans and a variety of fun merchandise. There's ample parking and even a drive thru. When heading to live oak today I had never been so I had fairly high expectations based on reviews and what I had heard. Upon ordering though I was highly disappointed I had ordered the hot chocolate along with the new donuts with a chocolate glaze. The donuts themselves were hard to the touch and tasted like they had been a couple of days old. The hot chocolate I had ordered tasted like nothing it was so beyond bland. It's important to note they have many other non-dairy options (almond, oak, soy, coconut). Additionally, they only have two sizes, small and large. There are small cups available at the counter for water. The ambiance was very artsy and chic. Jazz music was playing, people were writing poetry, and there were impressionist art books that surrounded all over tables. Baristas were REALLY nice and bathrooms were clean. Two days in a row I attempted to use Live Oak for a large breakfast gathering. Day one the food was cold, and not ready at the scheduled time. We contacted them and they prepared the food again fresh and brought it to us. When it arrived the food was great. We were so impressed with the taste we ordered for the following day. When I arrived they had not started the order at the scheduled time, and the worked attempted to place the blame on us. She stated it needed to be ordered online, which it had been. Live Oak is a new coffee shop in Midland that has a great aesthetic and friendly service. It's a nice place to meet a friend, do some work (free wifi and lots of outlets), or just relax. I've been a number of times now and while I tend to love pourover coffee, I have learned to go with an espresso-based drink here because the pourovers have consistently left me underwhelmed. They've been harsh, watery, bitter, or just unsatisfying. I think it's mostly the beans that I am not a fan of (I wish they used Narrativality, not Heirloom). If you want a solid pourover, do it at home or visit The Loch. Despite my qualm with the pourovers, I will continue to visit and enjoy other drinks. Live Oak also has a drive-thru that makes getting a decent beverage and snack on the run convenient. Stopped in after a disappointing dining experience and was greeted with a friendly hello. The staff was helpful as we made our decisions for coffee. The service was quick and when one coffee was made incorrectly ( regular instead of decaf) they quickly made another. After sitting outside for a bit a staff member came out with a plate of just from the oven chocolate chip cookies for us! Those were delicious as were all our coffees. While donning an incredible modern and urban design, Live Oak seems to really separate itself from any other coffee shop in the tri-city area not just because they have quality drinks, but more importantly because of a streamlined approach. Their drinks are incredible for coffee snobs and newbies alike, with no pretentiousness attached. Can't say that for many shops, specifically in Bay City. With efficient staff making high-quality drinks, paired with a local Midland coffee roaster, you can't go wrong! Sounds basic but I'd recommend a regular latte. It kicked ass.
