I came for a wheel alignment & I was told to come back in two hours because they were busy, it was cutting close to me having to be at work but I said okay. Dear Mavis discount tire crew, I just want to say everyone there was exceptionally kind, resourceful, informative, and helpful. A special shout out to Chelsea front desk, Thomas, Gino the mechanic and Julian the manager. It was two days before Thanksgiving, we had just driven three hours to pick up my son from college and our starter died. Our car insurance had the tow drop us off at Firestone across the street from Mavis. Firestone said they had a full waiting room and it would be four days before they could even touch our car. Mavis was across the street, they also had a full waiting room, the mechanic kindly walked across the street, took a look at our car and gave us a few suggestions, that not only saved us $$$ money and they got us up and running in less than two hours. In addition, the crew organized to stop traffic while they and my sons pushed the car in neutral across the street, from the Firestone lot to the Mavis lot. If that is not full perfect customer service I don't know what is. We are so thankful to the Mavis team, I was able to get my family back home in time to make Thanksgiving dinner. read more

I had the worst customer experience today at Mavis.called at 7am to find out if they had my tire size (which is not a common size). Mike G was nice enough to tell me that they had them and could install them TODAY. The TODAY part was critical, since I had to catch a flight later TODAY. Great. I told Mike G to order the tires. Flash forward to 12pm. Still no call from Mavis to schedule the mounting of the tires. Ok. I called them and was told, "Don't worry. They are scheduled to be delivered to the Troy, NY store at 2pm. Come on by at 2:30, and we'll install them and get you on your way." Whew. Flash forward again to 2:30. When I arrive at the Mavis store, they tell me they don't know where the tires are, and they weren't in either of the two deliveries earlier that day. Ugh. Then the regional manager for the Hudson Valley (I don't recall his name) tells me he's not a magician and can't make tires appear. I say, then why did your guy tell Me (twice) that they would be here? He says something rude to me, rather than offering a solution. Unacceptable! I had been going to Mavis for a while. While I was never really thrilled with them, they were convenient. No longer. This poor level of customer service can not be ignored or promoted. I'll never be back. You shouldn't waste your time or money either. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of other options from Firestone/Sears to Adirondack Tire to your dealer. Just AVOID Mavis. read more

Mavis has continuously provided me horrible service. I've had to bring my car back numerous times since February because the problem was never fixed. During one visit my car was left over night while they sent my rim out to get fixed and when I got my car back my battery was completely dead and had to be replaced. 2.5 months later that same rim needs to be replaced. Wherever it was sent it was not fixed correctly. When I contacted them regarding this, I was told that the manager at the time wasn't even supposed to send my rim to a third party to get fixed because Mavis doesn't fix rims and due to him no longer being the manager there's nothing they can do. I would not recommend going here, ever. read more

Any 5 star reviews are bought not earned. This place is so unorganized every few months there are different managers and techs. Every time I brought my vehicle in to get work done I always had to bring it back the next day because the problem was never fixed. My husband's tire kept losing air. We were refilling the air every day to keep it running. We brought the tire to Mavis and they were able to repair the tire and get us back on the road. I had gone to the Troy location to get air in my tires at the Self Service and the new manager Jed came out and did it for me. He looked at them and let me know I needed new tires. Today, 6/21/24, I was able to go into the store and get 4 new tires. The new staff is awesome too. Everyone is so courteous and professional with the details about your car. It seems the prices are more reasonable. That's important when you need quality car repairs done. I will be going back to get more work done on my car as needed. Although I've been to the Mavis Troy location several times before without any large issues, my most recent experience was enough to steer me to a competitors store instead. Had a 4PM appointment yesterday for four new tires and an alignment. At 7PM I took my keys back and left, my vehicle had not even been brought into the shop yet. The two tire technicians on duty were both struggling to mount new oversize off road tires on a guys jeep, while being supervised by the Manager and his assistant (all were eating fast food brought in by the Jeep owner). The person with the jeep had rolled in about an hour after I arrived with the new tires in hand. When I got the assistant manager to come back in from the shop area to give me my keys back, he said nothing as he handed them to me. It was apparent that the Jeep owner was an acquaintance of the manager, don't think he had an appointment either (nor did it look like he purchased the tires at Mavis). I left another customer in the waiting area who had a 6PM appointment for two tires and an oil change, I hope he was fortunate enough to have his work completed before their 8PM closing time, but that didn't look like it was going to happen. read more

My car was making a occasional thumping like sound after I hit the curb driving slowly through the Boston Market drive thru. Mavis gave me my car back with a $210.59 charge for a "wheel alignment" and a diagnosis. The occasional thumping is still there. From YouTube viewing it appears my under engine splash guard probably came loose. If that's not something they could not address, they could have said something. They don't even show the name of the mechanic, just number 722. Note: mileage in and mileage out numbers are both 37,544. That's indicative that they didn't even bother to do a test drive diagnostic. read more

Mavis...Discount Tire, America's discount tire store! The main thing this place has going for it is price. You will not find lower prices on tires anywhere and, unless you have a major discount, this is the best price you'll get. Customer service is okay and the staff has always been friendly on my visits. That being said, I won't do anything other than tires here. The dealer and generally gives me a better price. Also, be prepared to wait a while: this location is busy as heck and unless you're here right at opening, it's going to be a while before they can get your car in. If you want anything done fast, this is not your place. Luckily, I live within walking distance, so I can hang out at home while my car is getting work done. read more

As a young female, I expected to have a poor experience at an auto repair shop. But what I have experienced at Mavis is actually terrible. I went there once with a male friend, because it made me more comfortable, despite me being the one with the keys and holding the credit card, my male companion was spoken to the entire time. I was only called baby and honey and told to wait in the waiting area. I went there a second time because it is in a convenient location and I was astonished at the price for the repairs. I got a quote and I was being charged 4 times the market price for these parts alone, I understand having to raise prices a little bit to profit but going from $50 to $200 is ridiculous. They also were telling me the incorrect information of what was wrong with my car, making the issue seem bigger than it was. My total would have been $4000 and when I said I can not do that and I am taking the car they insisted on setting me up with a Mavis credit card plan when I was trying to leave, not taking no for an answer. At the end of the week, I plugged a check engine light reader into my car at an auto zone for FREE, got the singular diagnosis (not 8 different problems which they were outlining), and I ended up making the fix myself for $150 in total (including tools I had to buy) and two hours of my time. Cars driven 6000 miles since then and hasn't had a single problem. They also tried to replace my air filter which was replaced literally two months prior... very disgusted by how I was treated. read more

I brought my car here on 11/14 for a flat tire ( there was a nail embedded in my tire it was super low) . At the front desk I was advised it would only need a plug and I shouldn't be in there too long . I asked her to double check because I was certain I needed a new tire . She went back to check with the tech and he advised her just needed a plug. I happily paid the $30 not knowing this would lead to an even larger expense . Rewind 11 days later on Thanksgiving, I had pulled out ( on a residential street ) with a family friend and my two small children in the car ( ages 11 and 1) , we made it 8 houses up and my tire blew, my rim hit the ground , air bags deployed ( all 4) and my car jerked to the right causing me to ( scrape a parked car) and knock over a motorcycle ( parked) as i tried to get us to safety without being able To see . Thankfully injuries were minor and I'm fully insured ;however now my car has at least $16k worth of damages ( i just bought the car in February ,2019 pathfinder that now needs a new suspension rebuild ) . When i called Mavis to inform them of the incident , the gentleman Tyler told me when the car is out the shop they could replace my tire free of charge ? He also seemed to question how my tire could have blown on such a low speed... way to add insult t injury !Thankfully there are several witnesses and the police determined I was NOT speeding. I informed Tyler that my insurance would be paying for a new tire , that I didn't need a new tire, at minimum I would need my deductible paid for ($500) which is more the reasonable, considering I'm sure my insurance rate will go up and the blue book value of my car is probably seriously diminished . He advised he'd talk to his supervisor and have him give me a call . I'm waiting on that call now. I'm very disappointed so far on how I've been treated especially when my accident is clearly due to their negligence . Come on now my tire blows 11 days after getting a plug ! Hopefully Mavis does the right thing ! I'm just thankful that the incident happened on a residential street and not the highway ( which we had just exited prior to picking up the family friend ) i can't even imagine what the result Could have been with my kids in the car . My third visit to this location, with an appointment, and it was quick service as always. They have all my info ready to go based off my last name and phone number if I set up over the phone and I never need anything additional. They have always given me accurate time estimates and lowest prices. I also see them field a lot of walk in questions and problems while there. And while I get waiting an hour isn't always optimal, it's a small location and staff so I don't hold this against them. Will be going back for any tire needs for sure!! read more

I love my independent, local mechanic. I buy my tires from my mechanic. And when I have a serious problem, I go to my mechanic. I trust my mechanic. I'll buy another Mazda, just because my mechanic is brilliant with Mazdas. I owe a debt of gratitude to Meredith S. for introducing me to the shop. But when I have a flat tire, I'm finding the nearest air hose to see if the tire can hold enough air pressure to get to the nearest Mavis Discount Tire. Seriously, this is the second location I limped into on a leaking tire. And this is the second time that I rolled out, after using their free WiFi in the clean well-lit waiting room, on a patched tire that cost far far less than a new tire. I'll save my five star reviews for the little guys. But I can't imagine a chain auto shop being much better than what I've experienced here. read more

I should preface this by saying the quality of the work done and the prices are excellent here. Their location is convenient for me, which is why I keep coming back. The worst part about this particular location is the wait times. I made an appointment for 11:30 today and was told it would be a 30-40 minute wait before they got to my car. I arrived and checked in at about 11:25 and I am still waiting for my car to get worked on. I am here to have one tire replaced. One. Whether you make an appointment or not you are made to wait and today (9/16/18) is the worst of it. Update: they are now just bringing my car into the garage. Don't ever go here. These guys should be in jail. They looked at my girlfriend's brakes, told her she needed 'everything' but that they couldn't (or wouldn't) do the work. I looked at it later and found that a brake hose had come loose and was leaking fluid. All it needed was a $1 hose clamp, but instead of fixing it, they actually disconnected the hose and left it gushing fluid. She was lucky she lived so close. Her brakes would have failed within blocks, potentially killing her or others. They got very lucky nobody was hurt or killed. I am reporting them to the city. Hopefully they will be read more

Terrible. busy Friday before a nor'easter and they had one guy behind desk and one guy working the garage. I was waiting when they opened. The garage guy came in reeking of alcohol and was sooooo slow. no hop in his step whatsoever. I had dropped my tires off the night before to be mounted on a separate set of winter rims. when I came in, I could see they were mounted and ready to put on my car and pull my summer rims w/tires off. after waiting almost three hours without them getting to it, I just took my wheels home and did it myself in 25 minutes with a jack. Avoid this place. I got the female treatment and charges and was told one thing and charged another and had a bunch of miscellaneous charges not explained or told to me. I had to talk to a manager and then another and come back to the store for a refund. The manager issuing a refund didn't apologize and could care less it happened. When I mentioned how I was the last customer there and could hear all the men in the garage hooting and cussing and whatever else and how that made me uncomfortable he just looked at me blankly without saying a thing. When a partial refund finally was processed he just handed me the receipt without saying a word. Not such great customer service skills for a manager! Earlier this week I made a reservation Mavistire.com for 10am this Friday to get a new set of tires for my SUV. I arrived early, at 9:00am, to drop off my car today, and then walk a few blocks away to work. Upon arrival I learn that Mavis did not have the tires I reserved in stock. I was informed that they would arrive on a truck from the warehouse at 1:00pm, 3 hours later than my reservation time. When I asked when my SUV would be ready for pickup I was told after 4:00pm. I now have to find alternative transportation to pick my 5 year old up from school at 3:45pm. The service manager was not understanding and couldn't careless about my situation. read more

This place sucks. Don't get your tires from here. Employees are nice, but the service is awful. I'm only giving them 1 star because it's the only way I can get my review posted, otherwise I would have given them a ZERO! I bought 4 tires from them this past winter & not one was sealed properly. Every tire kept going flat. Had to have them all removed by a different garage & re-sealed to fix the problem. On the plus side, if your tires are so flat that "normal" air pumps (like at Stewart's) won't fill them, Mavis has a 24 hour pump that does the job for free. Only giving some stars because we appreciate Rays service. Always had excellent customer service st this site in troy with Ray. He has excellent customer service skill And communication and gets the job done. Unfortunately some of his staff (i assume he is management) is rude and unprofessional and i dont trust my vehicle with them unless he does the work. Had a terrible encounter with Jerry who had -0- customer service, -0- filter, he is rude mouthy and falsely bad mouths service of his management. We go there looking for professionalism not anything less. He made threats to note my account that if i didnt do the work there my warranty would not be honored any longer. i take good care of my car i dont need to be micromanaged by him. As a long time professional secret shopper i will tell you he ruined our experience at mavis in one visit. We took our vehicle back. He even told us after seeing my mechanic (of many years) bill with further recommendations for tire stuff that i got a great deal on what he did with him and id never get those prices with him. He continued to my husband that he will never be our family mechanic or do favors which have never been expected or asked of what so ever! These guys are borderline criminals. I'm positive they do the quick switch on anyone they can con. They keep tires in the back, if you show up needing a simple repair they roll out some bald tire that didn't come off your car. They ran this con at me yesterday and I knew that the tire they were showing me did NOT come off my car. And I told them so. The guy immediately got offended and said... "No we can't do that! We'd get in trouble if we did that!" In other words he knew exactly what I was accusing him of and that he'd been caught. They sent me an online survey and I filled it out. Musta put the fear of god in em cause they immediately called me at home.... begging me to talk to them. I hung up. If you go in with a slow leak or a puncture, you're coming out with a new tire.... no matter what. They can never fix anything only sell you new at whatever price they can gouge out of you. The place is a mess, you get free water and that's about it. You never see the same technicians twice I bought a new tire and they never even bother to ensure that ALL the tires are up to pressure and that the warning light is out. They may have been a good outfit once. But they're nothing but criminals now. Don't say no one warmed you. And women especially stay away from these thieves. read more
