TL;DR: I didn't have a perfect first experience here, but they made it right -- and I'd definitely go back. I brought my 2010 Mini Cooper to Firestone Troy after the A/C suddenly stopped working and started blowing hot. I'd tried recharging it myself but got an overpressure reading, so I booked the soonest appointment I could. The staff were friendly and suggested adding dye during the recharge to check for leaks, which seemed reasonable. A few hours later, they let me know the compressor wasn't working and offered to run further diagnostics for an added cost. What caught me off guard was that they'd already completed the full evacuate and recharge -- even though the compressor wasn't engaging. I was told it had been necessary to identify the problem, but later realized that wasn't accurate. In the end, I paid $341 and left with no resolution. If the story ended there, this might have been a 1- or 2-star review -- so I encourage anyone who's had a less-than-ideal experience to follow up. In my case, given the chance, they absolutely made it right. I reached out to Firestone's corporate office via their website to share what happened. Since the service included a performance check, I felt the compressor issue should have been caught before moving forward with the recharge. Fortunately, my message was passed along to the right people, and TJ, the store manager in Troy, reached out to me directly. After I explained that I'd eventually traced the issue to a blown fuse, he gave it some thought and agreed a full refund made sense. I stopped by the shop later that day, and he credited my card on the spot. He also mentioned that he'd used the experience as a training opportunity for his team, which I really appreciated. Things don't always go perfectly -- but how a business responds matters. Thanks to Firestone corporate looping back to the branch, and TJ's professionalism and willingness to make it right, I left feeling heard and respected. Brought my car in for a serpentine belt issue. Turns out they said it was the alternator and the air conditioning compressor, as well as the belt. Charged me $2700 to fix it. Picked it up on a Tuesday, and by Thursday I had the exact same issue, which then caused the engine to overheat. I had to take it back to get it fixed AGAIN. They tried to tell me it is normal for a large repair to have issues, which is a way to gaslight me, when they should have fixed it right the first time. I have been to this location before. Once it took over 3 hours to get a simple oil change, which I had an appointment for. When I complained about them taking so long for something I could have done in 30 minutes somewhere else, they then tried to upsell me with major repairs, that I didn't need or have done. My partner took their car there for an oil change appointment and was told that they didn't have time that day, although they had an appointment, and seemed surprised they couldn't leave it overnight for a 30 minute procedure. If they didn't have time, they should have called before the scheduled appointment to see if it needed to be rescheduled. I have felt that they talk down to me, as I appear female, and have issues that my partner has not had. They are sexist and act like I know nothing about my car and think that I will just buy anything they suggest. read more

I went in for an inspection yesterday. I was made aware I had a headlight and plate light that needed to be replaced as well as two from tires and rear brakes/Rotors done. I addressed all of the above except the tires. I brought the vehicle in today for the tires and inspection. Suddenly my passenger rear caliper is seized, brake cable is cut and no shoes for the right rear brake as well as two snapped rear rotors. Nothing has ever happened to my vehicle like this before so why as soon as I bring my vehicle here did this happen? Nobody had ever cut anything out of my car and Leya was the mechanic. So what did she do with my caliper, brake shoes and brake cable? Why wasn't I made aware of these issues yesterday when I brought my vehicle in originally? Once I made it all the way home my right rear rotor which was replaced by Leya snapped again. Is this how Firestone operates? Scamming people trying to make them pay for things that were never wrong with the vehicle to begin with??! I'm a single mother and was waiting for my vehicle for 6 hours with my 18 month old. I feel my patience and kindness was taken for granted by the shop. I had my son waiting with me the entire time. I even brought the two broke rotors back to the store and swapped them out for new ones by taking Ubers. A complete waste of my time and money. I will never be returning to this location unless it's necessary for a refund. This is how you lose customers. I came in for an inspection and left with a broken vehicle. read more

I had an 8 AM appointment for an oil change. I parked the car in the alley because the lot for the shop was full of cars which I found out were yesterday's jobs as well as employee cars. I parked in the alley came in, handed over my keys to the store manager TJ and asked him if it was OK to park in the alley. He said absolutely. I'm going to get your car and pull it in right now so I left. At noon, I called to see what was going on with my car and they said they were busy and still working on it. Imagine my surprise when I went there at 3 PM to see what was going on in person and they let me know that my car had been towed. Instead of working on it as they said they would at 8 AM they went to look for the car at 3 PM and it was towed. I then got to experience the 6 foot three manager, screaming in my face that it wasn't his fault and I should not have parked there. I reminded him of our 8 AM conversation, which is when he said he would go get the car from the impound lot but he could make me wait until Monday if he wanted. He also told me to get out of the store and he refused any further service on my car. When he finally drove it back from the impound lot at 5 PM I found the parking ticket that was received crumpled and shoved into my console. So I went back into the store and let the manager know that he forgot his ticket. He told me it was not his problem. I needed to get out of the store and he didn't care about any of it. I obviously contacted corporate and opened a full file so that they could pay for the damages caused by the tow as well as the tow itself and the parking ticket. I definitely do not recommend this place unless you have nine hours and $250 for an oil change and tow. While we were there waiting for hours for this to be resolved, we saw customer after customer come in and become disappointed or upset with the news they received at the front desk. I brought my vehicle by for new tires.. seems simple enough. I left there with over 15 lug nuts only hand tightened on.. no one bothered to check that one of the basics of a tire change was done .. MAKING SURE THE TIRES STAY ON. They gave me two free tires in exchange for the mess up, I was told over the phone it'll be in and out in 15 minutes tops. Then upon arrival for my SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT I'm told it'll be upwards of one and a half hours. The one and a half hour mark had passed and still nothing . Poor service , poor phone etiquette, very absent minded vehicle maintenance and just overall unprofessional and unreliable service. I'll never return to this location again. Every-time I've come here I have had issues. Top ones that come to mind: 1) I went there to get my headlight fixed last December and the lights inside weren't working as I was pulling out of the parking lot after picking it up that they fixed last minute. After months of getting bulbs changed in that same headlight every month till the following Fall and being told by other shops that the wiring was not compatible to my car and model, I took it back to see what was going on. Firestone found out that the universal wiring they used was not compatible and they were nice enough to refund me for that service they previously did. I was also told they had to remove the bumper to access the headlight wiring (later after changing the headlight assembly and pigtail myself without help or tutorial in 10 minutes with a total of $75 in parts, I never had to remove my bumper to access any of the wiring). They also found and fixed a rusted oil pan costing around 800. I was directed to go to the Chevy dealership whom then charged me $180 just to prove Firestone was corrected and gave me a $600 estimate to replace the wiring. I bought the parts myself and did it in literally ten minutes. I'm sick to my stomach bc I know nothing about cats and was taken advantage of and was able to do the job myself. 2) During the December visit, my car was swiped by an Enterprise driver whom was dropping off or picking up a car? I was told I was going to get a call from them because it was not on Firestone. Other employees commented that this was not the first time and something Enterprise was historic for. At the end of the day, I'm disappointed and thought this was my go to shop. Great customer service face to face but I'm still filled with life confusion on the actual process. read more

I never go to these quick lube places but I figured they could handle a NYS Inspection. I have my own inspector's license and I used to work as a mechanic, I know my car inside and out, it needs nothing and should pass inspection. Dropped it off around 1PM and was told they could get to it that afternoon, they called an hour before they closed and said they wouldn't be able to get to it until tomorrow. Sure, no problem. They call in the morning to tell me it failed inspection due to the parking brake having too much play and they want an hour of diag time to look at it. The parking brake could use adjustment but it holds the vehicle. It passes NYS inspection. They also tried to tell me my brand new (upgraded) front lower ball joints were going out and ALSO tried to upsell me on spark plug and diff service. They have no way of knowing whether my car is up to date on these services but they might as well try to go fishing, right? Clownish operation that lives up to all the stereotypes of a quick lube joint, gives all mechanics a bad name. Wasted my time and now my perfectly safe, operational and compliant vehicle has no inspection sticker on it. read more

All my experiences here have been mediocre at best. Let's start with the most recent. I came in to get my car inspected because the location is convenient. They did a pretty quick job, so no issues there. But when it came time to check out the guy was *aggressively* trying to sell me on the credit card... Then the email receipts. "It's not spam, it's saving you money!" Buddy. No means no. So does "no, absolutely not" and "no thank you" and "I'm not interested in more spam" and also "I said no". Once is your job. Twelve times is boundary issues. It isn't JUST the aggressive salesmanship. For reasons I don't understand (ok, again, the location is good) my sig other used to have real work done on his car here. It started off OK but when things started to get harder they gave him bad advice and messed up the repair. I've been going here for years and I have to say the service has gotten a lot worse recently. Communication can be pretty bad depending on who's managing, and you get the sense that these guys will pull a fast one on you if you're not looking. I made an appointment days ahead to have two tires put on (job should take all of 15 mins at a pro tire shop). Totally understand they're busy, so I planned for a ~2hr window. I came back 2 and a half hours later to find my car still in the parking lot-- they only brought it in after I asked the rep what was up. It ended up taking a total of 4 hours and I was there until closing time. The manager on duty told me I should plan to leave the car there all day next time (again, this for changing two tires). Really just writing this because I don't remember it being so bad a few years ago. took vehicle in on 11/13/21 for Inspection, Tire Rotation and Life Time Alignment (no charge). When tech was done and veh handed over to me I did not receive an alignment report. Asked for alignment print out and that's when it was discovered that tech did NOT do the alignment which was then completed. My brakes started grinding about 1 week prior to my appointment. I was able to make an appointment online pretty quickly and provided all my information via their website. They were able to replace my brakes and identify another issue with one of my back tires (it was about to fall off - yikes) and fixed both of these issues while I waited. Awful experience. I was told that a service would take an hour, at most, but then that time was altered to over 3 hours, at $124/hour for labor. I have been working on my own cars for years, and there's no way that it should take that long for such a simple task. When I declined to be ripped off, the mechanic didn't even reattach my power steering pump or give me the bolt back, when he was the one that removed it. He just moved my car outside. 1st of all, they deserve negative stars for this one. I believe they are crooks. I'll give you my account of what happened and you decide. During a ~1000 mile road trip, while a top end acceleration (passing on the highway) I noticed a 'slip' in my engine and the engine light blinked 3 times. Nothing after that. When I got to my destination I had the transmission fluid drained, flushed, and filled. That was well over due. When I got back home I floored it on the highway and the engine light blinked several times then stayed solid. No cut/slip however... I was due for a oil change, and at at 9+ years old/81,000 miles I decided to do a tune up. I also thought that the little engine cut may be the spark plugs or fuel injection and the tune up would solve the issue, and engine light would go off. I explained all of this to the mechanic at Firestone (Troy) who told me there was no guarantee I that the tune up/oil change would resolve the engine light. I acknowledged and signed off to proceed w/ tune up and oil change. They gave me the car back in 2.5 hours in HORRIBLE condition. It seemed like the engine was about to cut at any moment, like it was running out of gas. I explained to them that it was in much worse shape than when I brought in and their story was that the problem may have been aggravated while changing the spark plugs...possible. Maybe a coil was internally faulty and was loosed more during the job. But the body language of the mechanic seemed fishy, and the manager didn't seem at all upset that I went from a light on w/ no other noticeable problem to a car I was afraid to drive home in. I took it to another mechanic. They ran a diagnostic (for 11% less than Firestone would have charged) and immediately found that cylinder 3 was misfiring. The mechanic at Firestone did not replace the coil wire. Fail. Fail. Fail. Now, either it was 1) done intentionally so I'd spend $99 on a diagnostic for them to find something was wrong w/ the ignition system then charge me for that, or 2) a mistake. Either way, fail. If you saw the car when it came in, then saw it running after you did the job, you go back and check your work. You don't return it to the customer. I believe they thought I'd order the diagnostic and then they could tell me what ever they wanted was wrong with it. The other mechanic didn't charge to plug the coil wire back in. Told me that what ever was causing the engine light problem may still be broken, and told me to keep on eye on it. I returned to Firestone, told the manager what had happened, and demanded a full refund for all the labor. He complied apologetically and didn't ask any questions or go and talk to the mechanic or foreman. Makes me think 1) he has absolutely no confidence in the work they do (which I don't given what I'll say in a minute) or 2) he knows he's been caught being a crook, and doesn't want a show/escalation. I believe it's the latter. He tried to tell me that the guy who worked on my car was his 'best' mechanic. The guy can't change a spark plug, or trouble shoot something that simple?? Bullshit. I got my refund, am writing this review for the good of the public, and will never return. read more

I should have read the reviews. I'm giving it two stars because they ended up taking 20 dollars off my total, and during an inspection only found a light out that cost 14.00. Which they could have been sketchy, which they weren't. Just super inconvenient, and really unapologetic. I mean I think the guy realized I'm that girl who isn't going to stop complaining which is the ONLY reason he took 20 dollars off. If you do not need your car back right away, or ever. Bring it here. scheduled an 11:00am appointment and dropped my car off for an oil change and NYS inspection. I understand things happen but at drop off they said nothing about being backed up. at 12:30 I called THEM, and they told me it hadn't even been looked at yet. Okay..thanks for the phone call. An hour later they called me saying they were just finishing up and that a light was out. Okay sounds good, I approved the fix. an HOUR later I called them back and asked if ti was done, they said it was just finishing up. Three and !/2 hours for an oil change and inspection when nothing besides a light was wrong? I will never go back. They tried to tell me that it was like a Dr's office, and that things happen. Sure, they do. So you call your customers, and let them know. You APOLOGIZE for the delay. People have things they need to do, and it's helpful even if it's going to take longer to plan for the day if you know it's going to take 3 1/2 hours to do a job that takes 45 minutes. read more

If you don't want to read my long review here's a short synopsis.... DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO A FIRESTONE. ________________________________________________ I took my partners 06 subaru impreza in to firestone for a new alternator. The battery light and ABS lights were on indicating a problem. The battery wasn't charging so they installed a new alternator at a cost of $589. Mind you, anyone can buy the new alternator on ebay or from a local parts store for around $100 total. The other $469 was labor and tax. Evidently, it's super easy to install. The mechanic said he could do it in 15 minutes while I waited. I chose not to rush him and picked it up later that night. The next evening my partner called me from latham saying the car died on his way home from work. I drove over to pick him up. I popped the hood to see if there was something wrong with our shiny new nearly $600 alternator. I noticed one of the 2 small wires had fallen out of the small green "pigtail" connector on top of the alternator.. It was sparking as it touched the metal. I gently pulled on the other small wire and it too came right out of the connector with no effort. Somehow, the mechanic (I use that term loosely) yanked the wires out of the connector while removing the old alternator. Instead of doing the job right and soldering the wires or getting a new pigtail or even a new wiring harness, he chose to strip a bit of covering off the end of each wire and simply push the wires back into the holes on the connector from where he'd yanked them out of! Knowing full well there was absolutely NOTHING holding them in the connector and they'd eventually wiggle out from vibration or a speed bump. I called firestone that evening and told them what happened. Not wanting to spend $100 on a tow back to Troy firestone I was told I should take it to the latham firestone for free warranty repairs. I drove my truck back to our dead car in Latham the next day with a small gas powered generator and a battery charger. I was able to get the battery charged enough to drive the car the 3-4 miles to firestone in latham. I explained the situation to the Latham guys and they said what Troy firestone mechanic had done was unacceptable and they'd fix it right.... blah blah blah. The next day they called and said that because they were a different firestone, I had to pay $165 for the repairs (I use that term loosely). When I drove away, the battery light and ABS light were on again but they assured me the battery was charging and the lights would go off on their own soon. If they don't they told me to take it back to the troy store. Well, the lights didn't go off on their own so I took it right back to troy and left it there. They said they'd fix it and call me asap. They called a day later and said it was all set. I walked the mile or more from home to pick it up. I drove it back home and immediately popped the hood to see what they had done. I noticed a severely frayed wire going into the green connector. It had about 15 tiny copper strands inside the covering. Literally, only 2 of these strands were making contact and the rest looked like a rats nest. Rather than take it back to those guys again (and walk home), I fixed the frayed wire myself and then tested the charging system using my black and decker battery charger. It showed no charge coming from the alternator! So, the frayed wire had obviously grounded itself out on my trip home and fried the alternator OR they didn't install a second new alternator like they said they did. Had I not checked their work and just assumed it was fixed like they said it was, my partner would have broken down again on his way home from work, and I'd have had to pick him up again and figure out how to get the broken down car back to firestone. That really makes me mad that I have to check the work of a "mechanic" that I just paid almost $600. I was forced to take it back to the Troy firestone yet again. At this point I am livid. I expect to get a quality job when I pay almost $600 for a $100 alternator installation. The manager assured me he'd fix it himself this time. I picked it up 2-3 days later and I am happy to say the alternator does work now and the wiring doesn't look like a 5 year old kid fixed it. The workers there are nice enough people but they are not "mechanics". Sure, they can install shocks and tires and brakes but don't expect much more than that if you go there. You'd do better to buy your own parts and call one of those craigslist "come to your home" mechanics in the services section. EDIT: Firestone contacted me and the district manager Shawn, has offered to refund the labor for the "repairs". I accepted and will be contacting the store for the refund soon. I still will never go back to a firestone though. They've lost all my trust. EDIT: Firestone did refund the $154 labor but they made me go down to the store to make that happen. read more

I am not a big fan of chain stores, even auto repair ones, or oil change ones. However I am a stickler for service, and when credit is due, I give it. On a snowy day, my beau, myself and our coonhound found ourselves in N. Troy with a subaru that had no brakes. Yes our brakes failed! We called over to Firestone in downtown troy on a saturday afternoon, came right in and the checked it out. Yeah we not only had bad brakes, we had possibly deadly breaks. The diagnosed, fixed the front end and back end, rotors, pads and all, and did in a quick and timely manner, and did not take us for a ride with some unneccesary bullshit. This Firestone does a good job - doesn't take an abnormally long time to get anything done. They do a decent job on the jobs you need as well. The only issue I ever take with them is that they tend to try to persuade you into services that you don't need sometimes. It is one thing to tell you of things that must be done whether its to pass inspection or because your car is at risk in some way, but they can tend to tell you just anything and everything under the sun and it just comes off more like a ploy to get you to spend more. Not a good experience, I have to say. I live right near this place, so I figured that I would try it out, but I think I'm going to have to find another place to go. I've taken my car there a couple times now, and it hasn't gone well. I've had some check engine lights recently, so that's what I'll be referring to. The first time was fine, they let me know what was going on pretty quickly, were upfront about prices, that kind of thing. It did take them quite a while to finish things up, but I'd allotted plenty of time to it, so that wasn't a big deal. This next time hasn't been so good. I set up my appointment for first thing in the morning on a Saturday, dropped the car off on-time, and then went home to wait. And wait. And wait. After my car had been with them for about 4 hours without me hearing a word, I gave up and called them. Turns out, they hadn't even looked at it yet. They finally got it on the machine, and I did get a call back, but only to tell me that they needed to do a smoke test to determine the exact problem, and they didn't have the smoke machine. It was suggested that I could leave my car there until Monday, but I declined and just asked them to schedule the test for a different day. In the meantime, they did the oil change and put on my snow tires, as I had requested. At 3 o'clock, my car was finally done, almost 8 hours after I had dropped it off in the first place, and keep in mind that I had an appointment. Monday, I dropped my car off after work, around 4. They were able to figure out what the problem was, but it turned out they had to order a part from the dealership to fix it. They told me the part would be in by Thursday, so I scheduled another appointment for the Saturday after that. They did give me a partial estimate, and called me back the next day with the full estimate of the cost. Dropped my car off again today in the hopes of finally getting it fixed, only to get a call about 20 minutes later that they'd never received the part they needed, and hadn't realized until now. So, I need to schedule another appointment. I will, but after that, I'm going to find someplace else. The convenient location and extended hours don't make up for sheer incompetence that comes with it. read more

While driving cross country we developed a bulge in our back tire. It was Friday evening when we wobbled into Troy, hoping to get to New Hampshire that night and our new house in the following day. Time was of the essence. We stopped at Firestone, and they were closed early for an employee meeting, but they opened their doors and got us a new tire within 15 minutes so that we could be on our way again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Came in for an alignment new used car purchased and had it overlooked by a local mechanic when I got it. Had a slightly off center wheel with straight pull for the reasoning of me wanting to get an alignment. I figured I could save a few bucks and go here well the issue is still there if not worse now and I also have a pitch noise now! Tried telling me I need my struts replaced as they are "going" and that's why they couldn't do the alignment correctly I double checked with my mechanic and was told exactly what I thought struts don't wear and show signs of failure causing them not to do the alignment correctly if they were bad they would be completely shot. Highly recommend avoiding any chain store that does work on vehicles and save time and money going to a local reputable shop. read more

They didn't wanna do it i guess since they come back in five mins claiming they can't get the hood up and theirs a bee's nest in there and someone got stung. I said i been working with it for a week under the hood and otherwise and no bees. so idk how either of those are a problem i can go open the hood. So I don't really like giving less encouraging review but this one deserves it. I was first recommended Firestone from a roommate who had always had a good experience with them. As a new student there, I was looking for a place for some minor car issues i.e. fan belt). When I first when to them for a fan belt, I agreed; the mechanics were very nice and seemed really honest. And when my alternator of 9 years finally needed replacing, I went to them to get it fixed. Less than a year later, the alternator died again and I had to get it replaced. At that point I moved and went to my local mechanic whom is also a family friend. Come to find out that the alternator Firestone placed in my car is no longer made and has a bad reputation for quality. I called Firestone to figure out what to do and after explaining the situation, they refused to do anything unless I got the car there. I told the guy on the phone that I now live 4+ hours away and wasn't able to do so. So instead of offering any other assistance they told me tough luck. I understand that it may be a company policy not to replace the alternator or anything until the car is there. But I felt that they could have helped with some of the towing because honestly if they didn't replace my alternator with a crappy (and no longer made) one I wouldn't have been in this position. For minor issues, I think they're fine. But for larger more costly fixes, I'd be hesitant to refer them to anyone. read more

I will never trust this shop to do any serious work on my vehicle. After a week or so of driving around with a sound coming from my front end, in a 2013 with 40,000 miles on it, I brought my car in for a diagnostic and quote. Thirty minutes later I get a call back. I work half a block away from the shop and walked over to receive the news. $1900 in repairs! One caliper was destroyed, so I might as well replace both in the front end. $700. Bearing in the front right was the cause of the noise. $400. All brakes and rotors need immediate replacement. $800. Being told the issues were not immediately pressing, as was my concern (I had plans to travel 300 miles the following day) I scheduled a diagnostic with Von's. An hour after droppong my car off, copy of quote in the hands of a competent mechanic, I was told I did indeed need brakes and rotors. The cause of the noise? Not a wheel bearing. Those are designed to last THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. The brakes have a scratch plate notifying you of the need for service, thus the cause of the noise in the first place. The calipers? The mechanic explained that there was not a single piece of evidence of a single issue with any of the four. Had there been, there would still be zero reason to replace both. He showed me the even wear on all of the brake pads and the surface of the scratch plate and where it hit the rotor causing the noise which he replicated in front of me. Final cost? $500. I was informed Firestone is commission based, and likely they never even diagnosed anything but the brakes, tacked on the suoerfluous caliper replacement, and explained away the noise with an moderately high priced replacement of a bearing to tack on more labor and profit. This would have TRIPLED my repair bill. For no reason. If I need an alignment, or a convenient oil change, I'll find a shop that isn't a bunch of crooks. Seriously, don't go here. read more

I have had my car serviced by the Troy, NY, Firestone twice, both significant repairs; a transmission, and a front axle. Both times, the repair was done in a timely manner, and both times the service and attention to my car was excellent. Finding a good place to service your car is not always easy, you have to be able to trust their diagnostics and what they are telling you needs to be done. I am beyond satisfied with all the work that was done on my car and the way I was treated. I see there are bad reviews, but I do think they are under new management now. read more

SCAMMMM! The biggest scammers out there. Went to get our car inspected and it doesn't pass because of a small power steering fluid leak - fine. They give us the quote and try to get us to do a bunch of other things the car doesn't need (but they "recommend"). Not to mention the fact that you can buy all the parts for a 1/2 or 1/3 of what they wanted to charge us saving $400-500 total. Won't be getting our business EVER and I'll make sure to tell everybody I know what our experience was. read more

This place is a ripoff. They will overcharge you. Had to have my car towed here from r a diagnostic and timing belt replacement. After I picked it up I had more problems than before but when I took it back to them they refused to admit it was them, saying they never touched the spark plugs or engine. I'm currently a student at RPI, so I'm fairly new to the area and don't have a regular mechanic. My car started having issues that I knew was a problem with the one of the struts, so I brought it to this Firestone. I ended up with a bill of $1500+. Not only were they charging an insane amount of replace my struts, but they also insisted my car was in dire need of a rear brake change. This was news to me since I had my rear brakes done about a month ago. When I went in to pick up my car since there was no way I was going to pay this they kept stressing to me how unsafe it was to drive, so I wouldn't leave, even when I said I was only going a few miles down the road (the new mechanic I went to said it did indeed need to be repaired, but it was certainly safe to drive through Troy like I did). I ended up going to a different mechanic and getting a quote to replace my strut for about $400. I don't know if they try to screw over everyone or if they just thought they could take advantage of a student, but either way I am never going to any Firestone again. read more
