We've owned a home in Kihei since 2015, and yet, had never been to Thai Bistro. So, today, we finally realized maybe we should give it a try? The lunchtime meal was *amazing*! I had Thai-Railway Fried Rice, which has diced, cooked NY steak chunks, in a bed of brown rice, as well as peas, carrots, scallions, Maui onions (yum!), with an egg over easy on top, with toasted onions. I dialed the spicyness at "medium". It was *perfect*! My wife had Pad Thai with chicken, and she left it at the default spicyness (medium), which ended up being too hot for her, but she soldiered on nevertheless enjoying the wonderful flavor. Perhaps because of the noodles and curry, the spiciness of the Pad Thai seemed much stronger than the Thai-Railway fried rice dish. Of course, we had leftovers and I'll probably end up eating hers, and she'll eat mine. The service was prompt, and the girl waiting on the tables was courteous, with a beautiful smile. The restaurant is deceptively roomy, seeming to be smaller from the outside, but once inside, it was quiet, clean, with comfortable chairs, clean tables, and large windows to enjoy some of Kihei's views (like today's gentle rain). As with most things these day on Maui, where everything comes in a shipping container, food costs are very noticable. Our meal, including thai ice tea and a soda, with a coconut ice-cream to finish it was about $44/person. Not cheap, but also not as bad as, say, Tommy Bahamas. read more

We ordered 3 dishes and had leftovers to enjoy again. We ordered Macadamia nut panang Curry (I love curry anytime..), Drunken noodles (Pad Ki Mao) and Thai-railway fried rice (recommended by server). All dishes were delicious, full of flavour in every bite. Our whole family enjoyed every dish. The portions are good size and the prices were ok! The servers kept to themselves. Once you get your food, they only show up with your bill and ask you how the meal was. When you view your bill, you are automatically charged 18% tip for the meal, which was a little bit of a turn off considering the service you were getting is very little. read more

What a great little back of the parking lot restaurant! We were a party of 6 at 5 pm on a Saturday night and were treated as if we were the only people in the restaurant. Gonna start this with the food. If you only care about the taste of the food I would give this a 5/5. The food is pretty good, we got the tofu fried rice which was really good (yummy and authentic flavor), the calamari (kinda interesting, it's tasted more Chinese like dimsum, rather than like a Vietnamese/American calamari), the drunken noodles, the Tom Yum stir fry, and the steak. All the food was very good. Medium was the perfect spice for us, everything was cooked with lots of flavor. Nothing too greasy or salty. The reason why I give it a 3 is more for the service and ambiance. The entire time we were there, there were maybe 2 other parties yet the staff in the kitchen were laughing really loudly. Doesn't help we were sitting right next to the separator between the dining area and the kitchen. When we got our check they automatically added 18% gratuity. Mind you we were a party of 4. Well recommended by the Blue Book and close to our condo. Service was fast and efficient. Bottle of ice water for each table. Medium spice was just about right for us. My wife liked the pumpkin curry so much sh would not share. The Drunken Fried rice had lots of vegetables mixed in that were perfectly cook and not soggy. The server said medium spice is "not spicy at all" but it ended up having a bit too much heat for my husband. Pad Krapow with tofu spicy (three pepper sign). So good but spicy!!! Papaya salad medium spicy. Perfect heat and acid. Might be a bit too spicy for those who can't handle the heat. Good service. Easy parking. Nice clean space. Excellent lunch. Very casual place. Comfortable, can wear shorts and tees! The food is excellent. Been going there for over 10 years. Every time I come to Maui I go there for dinner at lease once per trip. Had the seafood mix; scallops, prawns, calamari, mahi-mahi. So much food I had to take half home for next day. The crab wontons are excellent too! That's what I ordered this evening! Just wanted to add another dish to try. Their famous Kao Soy noodles. Kind of like laksa. Ramen noodles, chopped cucumbers, tomatoes and red onion with some crispy noodles. Wife's sister's first visit to Maui and this was her choice for first restaurant to eat in Maui. 3 of us had come in on a Sunday night at 5pm, and the place is half empty. Hard to find as at the very back of a shopping strip, not visible from the street. We sat by the window, watching perhaps a half dozen cars stop in the take out parking spot directly in front of the restaurant during our hour long stay. Good sign as these are likely locals who know a good restaurant when they see one. Wife's sister had the $20 shitake stir-fried mixed vegetables with 7 shrimp, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, baby corn, zucchini and shitake mushrooms. The oyster sauce did not add much flavor to the otherwise bland dish. Wife 's $20 tom yum stir fry came with 7 shrimp, baby corn, tomatoes, mushrooms and onions with a tom yum sauce including hot chili sauce for kick. Lots of flavor in this spicy dish for onion lovers. I got the $23 macadamia nut panang curry with short ribs. Generous serving of fall off the bone tender beef in a rich red curry with cumin and coriander flavoring. This was the most popular dish, as wife and her sister took ample portions of this spicy dish right from the start. $2 for a small portion of thin rice noodles, $3 for small portion of brown rice, and $4 large portion of wide rice noodles. Profit generators. We were supposed to share the noodles and rice, but wife's sister could not separate the rice noodles sticking together, and dumped the whole thing onto her plate. Next day wife's sister took photographs of the setting sun amid the clouds over Kamaole Beach 3, and we could not get to Coconuts Fish restaurant until 645pm, with a half hour wait standing in line for food ordering. Should have come to Coconuts Fish restaurant at 5pm on Sunday and Maui Thai Bistro at 645pm on Monday, as probably no waiting here during prime time. read more

Overall an amazing place for dinner. As a vegetarian we visited Maui Thai Bistro twice during our stay. They had a vegetarian menu ready for us and the food was very well seasoned. The noodles and curry were delicious. The Hawaiian Fried Rice was so well made! However, the service was not the best. The restaurant was full but even with a reservation we were waiting for a table and our food. I would highly recommend making a reservation especially during peak tourist season. Dined here on a weekend for lunch. Tried a few different dishes and shared. I ordered the green curry with chicken (medium spice) and it came with side salad and steamed rice. We had an order of tofu pad thai, crab fried rice and the beef ginger stir fry lunch plate with steamed rice and side salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful and good portion sizes. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience here after hearing good things about it. The southern style oxtail soup was excellent though and I do want to highlight that dish!
