Stopped by here to grab some breakfast with the family before starting the day. Parking lot was pretty wide open so we had no issue getting a spot up front. It's a grab and go type place so we couldn't resist and grab a whole bunch of stuff. For breakfast we got a ham and pineapple twist, ham, egg, and cheese bread, a Hawaiian muffin, a coconut coffee and a POG juice. We also got guava butter, ube mochi, a macnut cookie, a peanut butter bacon cookie, and POG bread to take for later. All the bread was really good, the ham, egg, and cheese specifically was pretty big and filling. The twist was also super solid, the pineapple really was baked into the bread. The coffee was also very solid, not too sweet and had a good amount of coconut flavor. Most memorable treat we took back was the peanut butter bacon cookie, an absolute must get. Stop by for a delicious breakfast but make sure to go early cause they sell out fast. We got there at 7:30 and got the last of the bacon cheddar twist, plus a couple of cinnamon rolls and pretzel croissants. The bacon cheddar twist was my fave...bread was chewy with the right amount of cheese and bacon. The pretzel croissant was my wife's fave as she said it's not buttery like your typical croissant but has a crunch and taste of a pretzel. I want to preface my three stars by saying that I don't think I ordered well. I should have followed the recommendations of other reviews and gotten the Hawaiian bread, POC, or pretzel. I got the passion fruit roll which was a chewy dry bread with a passion fruit jelly inside. The texture and flavours were not cohesive. I also ordered the ham and pineapple twist. This was a similar chewy bread with ham rolled in the middle. If there was pineapple flavour, I didn't get any. I would go again and stick with the sweet quick breads. Ambiance is grab and go with a beach across the street to sit at and eat. Service was polite and helpful. read more

The pretzel croissant here is incredible, it's unlike anything I've had before. It's a bit more crispy and salty compared to regular ones.

Absolutely could NOT get enough of this place while I was staying in Kihei. It was across the street from our condo and we walked over every morning it was open during our stay. It's a month later and I cannot stop thinking about that pretzel croissant. I need someone on the mainland to sell it. It was perfect by itself but also tasted great as bread with a sandwich. The sign on the window says "Tradition. Quality. Taste." But ... it should also say "day-old" or "stale". Here early on a Thursday morning, when things should be fresh. Bought a few items to eat onsite, and was looking forward to picking up more to bring back to family. Unfortunately, the cinnamon roll and lilikoi buns were so obviously not baked that morning - like mediocre, packaged pastries you'd buy at the grocery store. I ended up taking only a few bites. Pina Colada Sweet bun... delicious. If I could just end my review like that, I would but I have more to say! First off, great vibe when you walk in. Staff is welcoming, plenty of pastries and unique breads and jams on display. I love a good bakery, and this spot seems like one of the best in the area. I also got a bacon egg and cheese roll and a Mac nut cookie (cookies are huge btw, with lots of options and gluten free options as well). After reading another review I definitely gotta try that coconut coffee! Biscottis also caught my eye. Guess what? The BEST gluten-free/vegan banana bread I have ever had! Yes, that is a very bold statement, considering I have tried some amazing ones almost everywhere I've traveled, and some tough competition on the island of Maui itself. Don't tell my mom, but it's even better than her banana bread, which she's known for! (Seriously, please don't tell her, she might disown me...haha!) My husband and I read about this bakery before we even arrived back on island a couple of weeks ago. We have a lot of favorites on the island, but are always open to trying new places, especially if they offer vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary options like that. We're healthy, plant-based foodies one might say! We rode bikes to Maui Bread on the way to the beach, saw the GF Banana Bread, which the very kind ladies told us is also vegan (no dairy, no eggs, etc), and we happily rode away with a fresh loaf! I kid you not, we almost ate the entire loaf in one afternoon on the beach, taking turns just biting into it like a sandwich in pure delight! We literally rode back the next morning, and bought 3 more! We plan to freeze 1 and pack it in our bag to take back to California next week. :) We also bought the Isabelle, a spelt & seeds bread. It's delicious too: toasted, not toasted, with nothing on it, or with hummus, or avocado, or with peanut butter and banana, it all works! We visited Maui Bread yesterday because we were looking for a cinnamon roll. The first place that we wanted to go was temporarily closed, so this was our second option. The cinnamon roll was "just ok", nothing special. It was heavy with not much flavor. Some of the other pastries/breads looked good. While vacationing in Maui I yelped different places that I wanted to try. This was one of them. First visit I picked up the POG bread, Ube Mochi, peanut butter chocolate chip Mochi and peanut butter bacon cookie. The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful. She let us know that we can freeze our Mochi and it will be good to take back home with us. Everything we tasted was yummy. I like that the Mochi is gluten-free and not overly sweet. Found out after that this place was known for their pretzel croissant... so I went back later that same week, to grab a pretzel croissant, lilikoi Mochi, a macadamia nut cookie and a coconut coffee. This place is great. Both our gluten friendly and gluten free family members were able to find multiple options to enjoy here. We put out leftovers in the fridge (which usually dries baked goods out) but the items were so moist and fresh they reheated just as well in the microwave the second day. read more

I would think that someone who works in customer service could multi-task by greeting customers walking in without seeming rude & while still engaging in her current convo... My husband later mentioned he thought he heard them talking about his business has been slow lately. Well, if that's the case, I would say greeting customers may be a good place to start to build that back up... They must have been really picked over when we arrived... As for what we got, the cinnamon roll was dry, the almond scones were decent but hard like a cookie more than a scone (at least the ones we've had), & the ube mochi bread was way too sweet in our opinions. *COVID Update* They only allowed 2 customers/parties inside at a time. Masks were required. There were two small tables outside, but none inside. There's no bathroom. They have coffee too! Parking is easy in their lot, which they share with Maui Gelato and Pizza Hut. I really enjoyed the lemon lillikoi mochi $6.69 and the POG bread $6.99. The mochi had a tart flavor, but could have been less sweet. The POG bread surprisingly had some jelly inside! I got the macadamia nut cookie $4.99 because the lady said they were fresh out of the oven. However, it wasn't warm when I got to it, which was disappointing. It also had coconut flakes; they didn't have Mac nut cookies without coconut. The cookie was very dense. Went here on my early morning trek for coffee and was surprised no coffee but it did not matter. Fresh homemade breads and pastries. Brioche egg sandwiches were delicious. We came to Maui Bread 2x on our vacation and if we would have discovered it sooner I know we would have come more. Everything was so good! The first visit we just got a few things but we loved the German pretzel and the pineapple + ham twist. My mom is gluten free and they have a lot of options for her, including gluten free banana bread and Ube bread. The second time we came back we got a lot more (come early!) and we LOVED the pretzel croissant, the Hawaiian Muffin and the breakfast rolls (ham, egg and cheese). The group visited at 7:30am today for an optimum fresh out of the oven experience with the breads and pastries. Early rise is a necessity for bakers and we honor their hard work and toil today. Gratitude and a nod to the ancient practice of grains and bread in human survival and use of grains in history turned "foodie luxury indulgences for the common people." Bread is definitely a luxury in today's world and is a indulgence most people can enjoy. The four people I sent out on the bread run came back with : 1. Hot dog Hawaiian bun style or to some a Taiwanese hot dog bun 2. Croissant 3. Pretzel croissant 4. Pineapple Pina colada bread 5. Sticky cinnamon bun 6. Cheese seed bread (healthier) Our group identified the pretzel croissant and sticky bun as top on their list but the hot dog and cheese bun on the sticky bun's tail. 1. Pretzel croissant ( just unique) The owners and bakers come from Germany and know how to merge an excellent authentic pretzel exterior with a soft almost croissant like interior. Expect the salty bite of a pretzel every time you approach... it's a bit surprising; one person commented that it felt like Disneyland pretzels on the outside ; memories of Mickey Mouse and Small World streamed through her neural network while patisseries of France Paris kept interrupting .. 2. Sticky bun: The sugary syrup stretch test beat many of the local cinnamon bun establishments. That's simply it. The dough was spot on. It was also warm! However the dough was still more of a German style than flaky . This was fine with us today ! Go early to pay homage to the "early rise" ( like they have to get up at 5am or earlier to start baking for you) of all true bakers all over the world! Decent buttery, flakey croissant type rolls with various fillings. I like the bacon and cheese twist better than my Ham and pineapple. Bacon has a salty, crunchy component that goes with the flakey, buttery twist. Ham was a deli slice and maybe because we got there at 830am versus 7am, it was slightly dry. The bakery is also so cute, clean and welcoming - such an incredible experience. Pina colada bread - the coconut cream and shredded coconut was super yummy, also love the Chunk of pineapple in it as well Sweet lilikoi bread - sooooooo much lilikoi in this! And it tasted like the actual fruit! I wouldn't say it was sweet but it was pretty good. Portuguese sausage bun - bread was soft (think hawaiian rolls type) with thick sausage (not hot dog) Hawaiian bread - love the fillings in this, very tropical Peanut butter bacon cookie - massive cookie with chunks of bacon, an odd combo but still pretty good Lilikoi mochi bread - my least favorite, nothing really spectacular Overall, the bread is good and I can see many people coming here for breakfast. We ended our trip with a terrific breakfast from this bakery. We arrived as soon as it opened, so there wasn't a line. The choice is difficult if you don't know anything about the bread and the pastries, so we asked an help to the owner. She explained different items and at the end we grabbed the pina colada sweet bun and the POG (passion fruit, orange and guava) breads for the break on the plan. After we ate the pina colada bun that was amazing (fluffy with delicate flavor), I entered again in the store and I grabbed the hawaiian muffin. Also that one was delicious. I can't explain the goodbess of these pastries. We also enjoyed the POG because the flavor was uncommon, but really good. Waited two days to finally visit during my own trip because I was conveniently here on Wednesday and Thursday, the two days the bakery is normally closed. For sure worth the wait and the people are super kind. They gave plenty of tips on how to keep the bread fresh and even gave some cellophane for me to later pack the Hawaiian and POG breads since they were fresh out of the oven when I got there. I got pretzel croissants (omg can't believe I've never had anything like this before--pretzel-y flavor and slightly doughier and chewy flaky croissant with salted exterior--so yum!), Hawaiian muffin (so so good! Coconut shreds and little chopped macadamia nuts and soft moist interior), pina colada bun (super soft and pillowy and if stand alone would have been great but compared to the other things, just meh), and the pretzel stick--good but kind of like your standard pretzel stick. Last but not least a small loaf of pog bread which was good but again nothing compared to the pretzel croissant or Hawaiian muffin. In terms of taste, it was mostly just sweet, hard to taste the distinct flavors except a few areas of filling POG juice - It was a bit on the sweet side but the distinct flavors you can taste. Refreshing on a hot day Lilikoi lemon butter bread - too sweet. Can taste the lemon flavor but not the lilikoi Banana walnut bread was solid. You can't go wrong with this safe bet. Lilikoi stuffed pastry was probably the best item! Only saw it when we went really early. Overall, things here are too sweet for my taste. Hit or miss. read more
