I took my husband here as a surprise for his birthday and he did not figure it out until we parked right across the street. He was so excited and loved it! For years I had heard nothing but good things about this place and so we were eventually going to go and what a great day it was for it. It started off cloudy but the sun came out and all of them were sunbathing and napping. It was such a great experience to be around so many cat lovers of all ages and witnessing everyone's interactions where they would play, run around, or snuggle with others. We ordered some teas and they came out piping hot! We will definitely come back. My only qualm was while registering or purchasing a reservation was it populated an option to send tickets to my Apple wallet but then it went away and there was no email sent that had the same link to send to my wallet. I only received a receipt and the waiver email. I was a little bit worried that we wouldn't get in if I didn't have tickets to scan. Absolutely love this place! All of the workers are very friendly and inviting. The atmosphere is really laid back and the lounge is very comfy to hang out and just enjoy petting/playing with all the cats. I love that they are giving all these cats a home & they are all available for adoption! They also serve the best chocolate chip cookies that I've ever had in my life!!! I need more of these cookies! I never made a review about this place saying how good it was. Wow. Cat Cafe, specifically this one is a real frown wiper. A real confetti popper. A real cheer whooper. The organization of this place is WONDERFUL. Cleanliness is spot on and safety is on top for the customers and the cats. Staff was so, so so nice. We had a real good, long conversation just about cats alone and was so kind to go over procedures and explain everything. Food was also good. I've only been here three times so I haven't got enough samples to write a full review. From what I know, It's good alright! I recommend the brownie. Warning that part of it is bitter though. I love this place! The neat yet miscellaneous deck of aestethic and how they serve gives so much liveliness. Please expect me again for a fourth time. Great concept. You come in and order your drinks such as tea or coffee - and can get a pastry or muffin or cookies - and then you eat it in a room with about a dozen cats that have been rescued. The cats are generally friendly and playful. We petted some that just took it in and purred - yet these cats also played with several with their toys. You can get a 30-minute stay or an hour. Visited around late July '23 I made morning reservations online, which came with a free beverage & discount on other drinks/pastries. There was a family in the cats play area. There was one staff/barista who instantly greeted me and gave me the run down for a first time visit. Along with showing me the free beverage selection. The muffins were being baked so it smelled lovely. There's quite a few cats, cat toys, and cat structures. Employees were helpful in navigating you to the environment & rules (like don't pick up the cats). I definitely recommend if you want a cat cafe experience and to book your experience online! Never in 1 million years would I have thought of this business model for myself, but it is genius! It seems as if they were printing money based on the city flow of everyone in and out of the café with reservations for one hour at a time. Obviously, you come here for the cats and there's also some really good coffee too. Adults can have a one hour reservation for $11 and children under 12 for $6. Included with your reservation as a complementary beverage, they have little hot chocolates, juices and milk like chocolate and strawberry, and Italian sodas for the kids. They also have hot and cold chip coffee with flavors as well for the adults. If you do not want any of these options you can also opt for anything else on their menu at 25% off. They also have a small gift shop in the corner with cute little items to purchase. We decided to opt to stay with the cats and the coffee, such a great combo. Very lucky to have Mauhaus in the St. Louis region because usually cat cafes are not as good as this one. Came during COVID, but they took many safety precautions to make sure that we felt safe. You do need to have a party of maybe 4+ people to make a reservation as you have one hour of free time with all of the cats. They have a capacity of 18 cats and all of them are extremely friendly and will let you pet them which is great! They are not shy around humans and if cats are your thing, it will be the best $10 you have ever spent. Also a bonus is that their free drinks that come with your ticket are also pretty good. If you're crazy about cats, this cafe was made for you! We were travelling through St. Louis and the adventurers that we are, decided to go off the beaten path. We love our cats and love spreading the love to other cats, and coffeehouses! This place was the perfect blend. $10 per adult and $6 per child per 30 minutes we were able to stay for 1 hour to visit with the cats in house and drink some beverages and snack on treats. I got the Lorelai Latte (named after a beautiful calico resident cat) and boy it is packed with powerful flavors and caffeine! My girls got a cup of milk and an italian soda, and the hubs got a drip coffee. We got a mint chocolate chip brownie and a cat sugar cookie and both hit the spot. Gotta beware of inquisitive cats when you're dining in the cafe! The space is perfectly built for the cats there, the climbing structure built into the wall up to the ceiling was awesome. Fortunately, most of the cats were down below and pretty social. You're not allowed to pick up any of the cats, but one friendly grey and white cat found a perfect spot on the hubs lap and was happy to be pet! Fun place to take a child (who can be gentle + patient and potentially take a couple of hits from cats). I imagine it would be therapeutic even (if you visit yourself). One time we went, i believe they had 17/18 cats (i think 18 is their limit?); it was slightly overwhelming (kitty litter smells and sick kitties). Just okay as cat cafes go, and we've been to several. My daughter and I came by just to visit the cats, the food was just secondary--good thing because the food was just meh. The workers were polite. The cats mostly kept to themselves, not one of them approached us but we quietly sat by whichever cat was accessible. The environment is okay, not upscale and cool but more homey. The cat area was small but clean with a few tables to sit at, and there were quite a few cats though they were very shy (as cats are) The only problem was that we had to pay by the hour instead of other cats cafes I've been to where we get to drop in and stay as long or short as we want. Granted, it might be more the experience than the actual cafe part but I still want to be able to leave earlier or later. TL:DR - go if u're a cat lover. If not, set realistic expectations. $10.xx for one hour of cats who you have to win their affection... Great if you are crazy about cats. I personally and a dog person, but took my two friends from out of town here and they loved it. The workers are very nice and don't get annoyed if you ask then a ton of questions that I'm sure they've answered a million times already. The venue itself is really well put together albeit small. Lots of fun hiding spots for the cat's to enjoy. Once you find a spot you're pretty much stuck there and if someone leaves it's a very awkward polite mad dash for that open spot. Cat people will always say that you have to work for the cat's affection, so it's supposedly completely normal and supposedly enjoyable when a cat ignores you and you spend 1 hour there not playing with a cat. Not the venue's fault, just be aware. For me the minus one star is for the price increase. It used to be $5 per person I believe, but now it's $10 and some change per person and that doesn't even get you anything from the cafe. For a dog person $10 for the hour is beyond not worth it. But for my two cat lover friends it was worth it, so that's why they're getting 4 stars. read more

I really enjoyed my visit at Mauhaus! I recommend booking ahead especially on the weekend because it can get very crowded in the afternoon! I feel like there were a lot of people at one time so it's hard to spend quality time with the cats. Many of the cats are not super friendly so they may run away and avoid being petted. Some people may find this boring because they would not be able to play and interact with the cats. You pay $10 per person for an hour inside with the cats plus one drink included so I think it's pretty reasonable. Their drinks were pretty good! Vietnamese iced coffee tasted very authentic. I met some wonderful cats today but so sad that I can't adopt any due to my living situation. I think cats are awesome (I've got two at home), but this was my first time visiting a cat cafe! I was meeting a friend for a weekend in St. Louis, and I had just about an hour to kill before I was going to pick her up at the airport on a Friday morning. I was searching Yelp for coffee shops near the airport (ish) where I could sit and read my book before heading to the airport when I found Mauhaus! And after reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to go! What you need to know: You can and should make a reservation. It's $10 for an hour in the cat cafe and that includes a beverage of your choice. The menu includes all your coffee options (espresso, cortado, cappuccino, latte, mocha, French press, pour over, Vietnamese iced coffee, cold brew iced coffee) as well as several non-coffee options (teas, apple cider, hot chocolate, lemonade, etc.). I actually went with a rose tea, because I was already caffeinated when I got to Mauhaus. (They also have a bakery, and you can purchase some snacks if you choose.) Once you've told them what you want, you walk through two doors (to make sure the sneaky kittens don't go hang out in the kitchen) and - TA DA - you're surrounded by happy, sunbathing, purring, playing cats! Specifically, you're surrounded by two resident cats (Lorelai and Taylor - siblings) and about fifteen adoptable cats. Mauhaus only features adoptable cats from Stray Haven Rescue - so all of these cats and kittens are looking for homes. They're also getting really great socialization, so your $10 goes to a good cause even if you're not planning on taking anyone home with you! I had intended to pet a few cats, sip my tea, and then read my book for a bit. Who was I kidding? I played with cats for the WHOLE hour. An hour is really plenty of time to get to know most of them and to make some favorites. Personally, I fell madly in love with Sheena (a shy new resident who got bolder the longer I sat near her), Chaos (who had been shaved like a lion due to lack of care at his former home), and Abby (who just wanted to be pet while she sunbathed). When I was there, a mother brought her young son in, and he was really quite scared at the beginning. Over the hour I watched him get more and more comfortable, so this isn't just great for the cats that get socialized, have fun, and find forever homes. Mauhaus provides a service to parents with young children and to people not accustomed to cats. It was wonderful to watch a child go from scared to excited!! My hour at Mauhaus was well spent. I made some friends, drank some tea, and donated a bit of money to an organization doing great work. What's not to love? read more

I've been here at least three times. I've been here to try it out, then my second visit was for my birthday (with a group of friends), and when a friend visited from out of town. I can see this also being a good place to take a date if you're both cat lovers. The place is clean and the cats are well taken care of. Staff is nice and informative. The food and drink is okay but I don't mind since the cats are the real reason people go. Would recommend reservations. I've found that Thursdays are usually when it's slow, otherwise you'll be fighting with someone else over the affections of a cat. The cats are spoiled to the point that getting pets isn't a big deal for them. The three times I visited, it took 30 minutes for them to start to show interest and approach you. That's why I recommend going as a group or bringing a book. read more

I paid $14 to visit a cat I wanted to adopt. The drinks are minimal, no lattes or whatever, and there weren't many snacks, just sweets. The staff person was polite and friendly. The cat is asocial, won't connect to humans. Another cat, who has been there over six months, approached me and sat on my lapand so I filled out the application and it was rejected. I asked if it was because my elderly indoor cat didn't have a vaccination this year- the vet said it was optional- but didn't get a reply. Seriously? I've had cats my entire life. The cats are (mostly) wonderful, and their cafe makes great food and drink. The staff, though, look and behave as though it's a miserable and deeply personal bother on them for Mauhaus to exist. Which is probably why the adoption process left much to be desired. It became a month-long process of them not getting back to us and being treated with intense suspicion bordering on outright hostility. I didn't think we were even getting the cats until almost the day we were allowed to pick them up. They also respond to the slightest criticism with the maturity of a grade-schooler. In the future, I will be adopting directly from Stray Haven, who accomplished their part of the adoption process with clear communication, efficiency, respect and professionalism. We probably would have had the kitties the same day had they not already been sent to Mauhaus. As much as I would love to frequent a cat cafe, the staff are pretty much the only reason I haven't been back since adopting. read more

It's not just about the cats! But let's face it, the cats are great! But it IS more than just about the cats. The drinks are the bomb. My favorite is the hot chai tea latte. The bakery items are made in house and are as good as any good bakery in town. Savory or sweet, it's all delicious. Friendly staff every time we come in the cafe. And the extra bonus is the chance to interact with the cats, especially if you are interested in giving one of these kitties a forever home. The cats have a wonderful cat playground with lots of areas to climb and hide. It does not smell at all like cat litter too. They limit your visit with the cats to about an hour which was plenty of time to meet all the kitties. I went with my fiancé, trevor who fell in love with an adorable cat also named Trevor. Pure happiness seeing all the kitties, and the coffee was delicious too. Kind of unfortunate that you can only stay for an hour (you have to make reservations) and it is not the best for having conversation either. The real focus is spending time with the kitties with some coffee and socializing on the side. If you frame it like that, then you won't be disappointed. I love the concept of Mauhaus. St. Louis first cat cafe is the talk of the town! Reservation is recommended when visiting since the space is slightly small, and there's a limit to the number of people to go into the main cafe. When you make the reservation, a $10 fee is required per person. The $10 probably helps with the upkeep of the cafe, which is understandable. They make it up to you by giving you a free beverage of choice and 20% off their baked items. The menu is pretty expectant from a cafe. You have your coffee, lattes, and some special drinks on the menu. I got a latte with lavender syrup, which wasn't too bad. All their flavored syrups are made in-house which is awesome. Before you enter the cafe, there are rules you're required to read over and a waiver you're required to sign. Once you enter the main space, you just find a place to sit back, relax, and eagerly wait for a cat to come near you (you're not allowed to chase or pick up the cats. The cats have to come to you.) The wait felt like a brief middle school dance flashback... as you wait awkwardly for someone to ask you to slow dance. Can someone please dance with me? Well, the good news is that there are enough cats for everyone to play with at the cafe. Nobody will feel left out. My favorite cat was an aggressive-snuggler named Colin. Colin doesn't know how to control his claw strength. He jumped on my lap and gave me a huge hug around my neck. He was enjoying the snuggling so much that his claws started to latch on to my clothes. The longer you snuggled with him, his claws started to poke your skin through your clothes. The pain didn't feel too bad once people start awing at this moment of course... I would take Colin home if I wasn't mildly allergic to cats. Well the good news is majority of the cats are adoptable at the cafe, but a few cats are the cafe patrons. Cafe Mauhaus is a neat space. I mean what's a better way to adopt a cat once you make a connection with them at a cafe. The overall atmosphere is positive and bright.
