Two tables of over fifty plus available tables were seated when we walked in, we were dining with her friends - I've never met them and I head they're a real rowdy bunch. So, no surprise when we're were seated in the back, in a private room by the rear exit, they've been here before and must have left an impression. Eight people eating family style together, I was mostly quiet and didn't wanna flash my camera so I have no pictures to share. Mozzarella Balls and salad, antipasto and volumes of alcohol except for me. Well, I ordered a wine which I swirled and smelled and sipped upon lightly. Thick white tablecloths with little covered lights were soon covered with what, the women chose for the appetizers and entrees and the men talked kids and college and I swirled and smiled with interest. They're all really cool people, I just didn't have much to add so I focused on the food and the wine bottle wall as the volume steadily increased some more. Penne alle Vodka wasn't a vodka sauce at all, I think they had a little mix up in the kitchen but nobody noticed i don't think. Sausage and meatballs over spaghetti is good for Grannys house on Sunday, I'm starting to grow anxious while wondering if they ordered the homemade pasta, I'm hoping against hope, it never came. They all hate seafood and I think I'm the only Italian at the table as I longed to stand with menu in hand and start ordering the food all over from the beginning and if I was drinking, I probably would have. A few breaded pork chops appeared, a tough family style dish to equitably carve up and share, I'm not feeling the Italian food I believe Matteo's Restaurant can properly prepare is on the table. And as we exited I had an opportunity to spy a few dishes as I slowed my pace and weaved around waiters and customers, the restaurant was now packed to the rafters. Perhaps another time she and I will return and order the dishes that I thought we should have. read more

Been here twice now, once back in Dec. 2023 when they offered Prix Fixe meals for $40/pp. It was the best deal - appetizer, entree and dessert. Choices were about half of the regular menu but very manageable. Last visit was Valentine's Day with my family. The restaurant was 85% full but still lucky I made a reservation. Given the snowfall the day before, it could have been hit or miss. Reservations made on Open Table, super easy. Appetizers we enjoyed: - prosciutto and mozzarella, you can choose 2 or 4 slices of prosciutto and then it's paired with huge cut pieces of fresh mozzarella. Plating wise, wish they had more fresh basil or garnish for color. And the mozzarella portion which was generous but oddly sized. Like balls split into halves. See photo. - grilled octopus with cannelloni beans over greens with vinegar and olive oil. Favorite appetizer of the night. - second favorite appetizer was the meatballs. Excellent sauce. - previous visit I had the baked clams and stuffed mushrooms. Those were good, same breading though so I probably should have ordered differently. Entrees: - veal milanese was delicious. Thin pieces of veal, nice shareable portions, breaded and served with fresh cut up tomatoes and chunks of fresh mozzarella. Again missing some green but it was really good. - mushroom pasta was creamy and rich. Enjoyed this. - Veal Parmesan was again, generous portions. Great sauce. - penne a la vodka with prosciutto, needed more sauce but it was very robust in flavor. This one had parsley on top, gave it a nice finished look. Complimentary bread basket and butter on the table. Nice table setting and when the waitress realized how cramped our table was, she opened up the panels on three sides, to give us more surface area. That made the dining experience more enjoyable. Desserts were also generous in portion. Can't believe that Napoleon was for an individual portion. Totally recommend this place but someone needs to work on the plating to make the dishes just a little extra. read more

Enchanted Octopus - This was our first visit to Matteo's even though it's less than a mile from our home. My mom and I walked in on a Thursday evening at about 6pm and asked if there were any tables, as we hadn't a chance to make a reservation. The young lady at the front desk was sweet and friendly and told us to follow her. She gave us a phenomenal table and left us with her beautiful smile. Moments later she returned and was our waitress, apparently she was handling the entire front room which had about eight or nine tables totaling close to 30 people, usually a recipe for disaster. She was obviously more than just a pretty face. She charmed the entire room and was always checking to make sure her tables were happy. Interestingly, the first seven or eight songs were Sinatra. I stopped her and said, I love Frank, but does your playlist contain anything other than Sinatra, perhaps Dean Martin, Tony Bennet or even Bobby Darin, she laughed and said, one of her customers had requested it and it was just a playlist and that she would change things up if we wanted. No. We love it, just curious. Anyway, the Caesar Salad was delicious, both Eggplant and Veal Parms were solid, more than we could eat, cheesy and delicious, and the restaurant looked like a million bucks and functioned perfectly. Dana made the night better than we thought possible and without eight arms, I can't imagine how she would have pulled it all off. Five stars ***** for Matteo's and Six ****** for Dana. read more

I don't know what happened from the last time we were there, but I was truly & totally disgusted & Frustrated with what occurred there tonight! I've been in the food service business for over 30 years, & I have always loved this place & have always given them the respect & love they deserve, but not tonight. It started out by not getting the table we requested, they had a 6 top in our space but no one never called us to let us know, that they couldn't accommodate the orginal request. When we sat, we were greeted by a swarm of servers? It was nice to see but we weren't in the restaurant 5 minutes. The young man who is African American was the star of the show tonight. He didn't speak English but this young man was kind & on point! So we were rushed to place our order of appetizers , so I saw the baked clams,the server told me there were 8 in a regular order, & 12 in a family style order? He asked me if there was a problem & before I could answer, I stood looking at the menu because they were asking 29 dollars for 12 clams? I could not believe they were getting that kind of money for 12 little necks? I'm not usually cheap nor do I question prices, but that is ridiculous!!! The warm mozzarella was not warm but tough & cold. The calamari were average & under cooked. For the main course, we ordered, Veal Milanese & PapaDella pasta with a Mushroom crème sauce. The Veal was not Milanese, & when I asked the server, you guys don't melt the cheese on the veal?,His answer was, the grated cheese is right there? What the hell was that???The veal was flavorless as was the little bit of salad they give you with Milanese, The salad Lacked even the slightest of Parmesan shavings. The whole plate was cold. As for the pasta, that too was cold as well, in fact, both plates were sitting at the side of our table, for about 10 minutes before someone took it away, before they re-Served us? Where did they go with the plates, only God knows! We ordered Caesar salad in between the appetizers & the main course, & it lacked flavor & dressing!! BTW,Milanese means melted cheese on top of the cutlets!!! Last time we went, it wasn't a big deal, because they had chopped up fresh mozzarella & they put it with the salad on the side. I ordered lentil soup & it was the only thing that was done properly but they should remember that garlic is a seasoning not an ingredient. I don't know what has happened here but the place has changed. Maybe it's an isolated incident or it's become an on going problem because the owners are spreading themselves too thin now, with the acquisition of Louie's being their baby now. Quality is always so much more important than Quantity. If every one of your places aren't top notch & aren't serving your customers with the best of service & satisfaction, then having 10 restaurants means nothing! I'm taking a break for now because I'am truly dissatisfied & disappointed. My daughter ordered the 11 dollar sundae for dessert, which was one scoop of vanilla & chocolate cream, with whip cream, & chocolate syrup! I wouldn't have a problem with this, but then my daughter showed me a picture of the sundae the last time we came here, & as she pointed out, the size was very different. It's obvious the waiters or the runners are setting up the desserts. This looks like it was just thrown together & rushed!!! Sorry but when I spend 300 dollars on dinner, it has to be better, taste better, look better... The bread on the table was even hard, regardless of how long you heated it up!!!!!! read more

Both meals were good but unfortunately I became very sick after my most recent meal. I'm not sure if it was the Cesar salad or the salmon and spinach. Still, I'll probably give it one more try... This is another one of those restaurants that I don't go to often then after I leave, can't understand why. This shop is not far from me, parking is easy, the place is big-bright with a lot of electricity in the air. They have been here for many years and they have a definite group of regulars you will see here all the time. My wife and I came during restaurant week. We ordered calamari to start. Perfect, just perfect. Great crispy coating with a very tender calamari inside. Very tasty too. We also had the baked clams which were delicious. A nice crispy light baked breading over a tender-delicious little neck clam. Both had enough liquid in the serving dished to properly dip our bread. Main dishes included Shrimp Oregenata for my wife and I had the Sole Oregenata. These dishes were prepared perfectly. The shrimp were tasty and cooked perfectly. A light brown bread crumb over the shrimp. My sole was also prepared the same way.. The two entrees were hot and loaded with flavor. We came late and they were still very busy. I was impressed at the attention to detail that. the waiter always showed and just how pleasant he was. I realize that it gets tougher as it gets later and this is an amazing team of people. I came here on a Friday night with my husband and baby for a date night, and the restaurant was so so accommodating! I called first to see if they could accommodate a stroller, and they said they could. We brought our baby in his stroller and they sat us in a corner where there was plenty of space to park the stroller and not have to stress about getting in anyones way! We ordered calamari to start, and my oh my was it FRESH! No chewy rubbery feeling, it actually melted in your mouth! My husband got the bolognese, which they were kind enough to make with a pappardelle instead of the rigatoni listed on the menu. I ordered the chicken Milanese with a side of rigatoni Alfredo. Everything was absolutely delish, my husbands only complaint was he felt the bolognese was a little too meaty. The wait staff was so kind, and even provided a cup of hot water to heat our baby's bottle! Solid choice for a delish Italian meal, clean bathrooms, and lovely wait staff! Would go back!! read more

I went with family to celebrate- The veal which should melt in your mouth ( if cooked correctly) was tough, another dish was very spicy- which it should not have been- almost like someone poured hot chili powder in it. The acoustics in the restaurant are terrible- very loud, could hardly hear myself or anyone speak. The waitstaff were wonderful... ( 4 stars for them) and should get a raise. Overall, it was very disappointing. Maybe I just had a bad dish- they offered to replace it which was nice but by that time I lost my appetite. Came for Valentine's Day and had a pretty good experience. Our server was incredibly attentive and made sure we always had what we needed. Food was huge as far as portion size, and good in taste - though nothing I have an urge to go back and get again. We started with the warm mozzarella and Caesar salad, which were plated for each of us table side, and for entrees we had the spicy rigatoni and rigatoni siciliana with eggplant and mozzarella. Dessert was probably the biggest disappointment - though the napoleon looked amazing, it was very fluffy and whipped and didn't have the custard consistency that a great napoleon has. read more

I recently dined here for LI restaurant week. The restaurant was making sure they take precautions with guests that dined there with spaced out tables and staff masked the entire time. I decided to go the seafood route in my options on the LI restaurant week menu. For the appetizer I got the baked clams which had a crunchy buttery seasoned breadcrumb topping and served with a slice of lemon in case you prefer an extra squeeze of acid to the palate. For the entree I decided to go with the filet of sole oreganata style. It was light and flaky and just the right amount of food. My sister in law got the roasted chicken which the dish was large enough to save for a second meal. For dessert I wanted to try their tortoni, but they ran out for the night. Instead I opted to get the biscotti with homemade cannoli cream. The cream had just enough sweetness that paired well with the crunchy biscotti cookie. Returned here in Jan 2024 after spending 15 years living in LA and dreaming of the chopped salad, clams casino, and veal parm... and my expectations and experience were surpassed! Not only did the restaurant interior have a beautiful makeover but the recipes were exactly the same and perfect as I remember. The prices have gone up but so has everything, I believe the midtown tunnel was about $4.50 when I left and now it is $12! Back to the restaurant, it's best to call for a reservation ahead of time. Our group of four went to dinner relatively early on a Saturday night and while the place was fairly empty at the start , the restaurant filled up as expected. We were seated in a corner as requested so we had a nice relatively secluded and private space. Our server , Darwin, was so very attentive and gave excellent recommendations for dinner. Zucchini friti and chopped salad were delicious to start and entrees of , chicken paillard ( not on the menu- but prepared by request, and the shrimp special were all delicious. Despite the place being busy we never felt rushed and enjoyed a pleasant evening . We did not leave any " room" for dessert as suggested but will be back again to try some of their delicious offerings. We hope we get Darwin as our server as he is excellent! read more

Solid spot We went there for our anniversary dinner last year and the food was very good. Today, we had some friends over and I had a craving for Italian food so I was browsing their website and found a family dinner deal for $79 which includes: - house red or white wine - loaf of Italian bread - tray of salad - tray of pasta - tray of chicken or eggplant dish It was such a good deal! I called them to place and order and picked up in 30 minutes. Judging from the food containers piled up by the reception desk, takeout seems to be much more popular than dine in during this time (understandably). However the customers dining in appeared to be appropriately socially distanced. Will definitely keep Matteos in mind for future family dinners! read more
