The stuffed mushrooms were my favorite. They were overstuffed and delicious. The baked clams were so good as was the tender eggplant rollatini. We also enjoyed their bread basket and herb dipping sauce. And I want to mention as soon as we were down to one piece of bread, the waiter brought another full basket along with more sauce. So good. We tried all different raviolis. You can actually order one serving with two different types of filling and sauce. The apple ravioli was the favorite at the table. It had a hint of sweetness and paired with Gorgonzola, you got the bite if salty. It was served with a triple sec Alfredo sauce. So good. My next favorite was the lobster ravioli. It had chunks of lobster and was served with a creamy brandy Dijon sauce with shrimp. Yum! The duck ravioli had plenty of flavor, also served with the Alfredo sauce and the mushroom ravioli was equally as good. For dessert: The no bake homemade raspberry cheesecake was light and creamy. It's bordered with ladyfingers and was my favorite. The bread pudding was thick and sweet and I loved their caramel sauce and whipped cream. There was also some sort of special torte which was amazing. We all enjoyed their cappuccino which was borderline creamy. It came with a biscotti, which we dunked, of course. Like most three-course special menus, there are upcharges for various selections. Sometimes in retrospect I regret ordering three courses because a single entrée is sufficient. That was the case here because I was almost full after eating their chopped salad appetizer and the heated Italian bread and butter that preceded the entrée. I was surprised because an appetizer salad is often a small or medium sized plate, but here it's a full sized platter. Also, I ate it all, when I could've taken home half. Ditto for my entrée, their chicken marsala. I know that some of our friends purposely take home half of everything, so they get two meals out of one order. My decision, however, piggy as sounds, was that one of their included desserts was the tiramisu, which I have trouble resisting ... to the point where I try to sample them in as many restaurants and bakeries as possible, as if someday, somewhere, I'll submit an article on the subject ... "Tiramisus of Long Island and NYC." The food and service were very good, we had a large round table in the back, that made it easy for us to talk, a nice tablecloth and thick napkins, but I've had better tiramisu. A free glass of white or red wine came with the special, but I didn't like mine and should, like my son, have gotten a diet Coke instead (a permissible substitution). The parking situation was a minor hassle in that there was no valet, and while a sign in front of the restaurant suggested parking in the lot across the street, when we went there, the signs said that after 5:30 PM they'll tow you away, so we found a spot in the neighborhood and walked a few blocks. We'd be happy to go back, although there are Italian restaurants just as good that are closer to where we live. This Matteo's was half way between where we five reside, and convenience matters, especially on a weekday night.

There's a coat room, the bathroom was clean, and the four of us were seated near a fake fireplace in the middle of the dining room. They put out a complimentary bread basket (with rolls ... and a bagel!) with butter, plus (tonight) a complimentary little rice ball with tomato sauce (that looked like a meatball). My wife enjoyed their Cosmopolitan cocktail and I equally enjoyed their Montepulciano red wine (sorry I didn't make note of the brand or year). Hers was $22.00 and mine was $17.00. The stracciatella soup was delicious. It was one of five soup choices, all priced between $17.50-$19.50. One of our friends ordered a seafood salad appetizer (calamari, shrimps, scallops, clams) for $27.00, which was large enough for two, so he had the second half boxed to go. His wife ordered the "Charlotte salad" ($19.00) with mushrooms, asparagus & roasted pepper over mixed greens. The ladies both ordered the branzino entree ($49.00 each). I was tempted by the osso bucco special, but didn't feel like spending $72.00, so I ordered the "fettucine alla bocelli," which was a bolognese sauce with chicken and veal (instead of beef ... a nice, lighter variation), topped with a handful of dried ricotta ... for $29.75, which was very good and the leftovers will be part of tomorrow's dinner. My friend ordered the "Rigatoni Stresa," which came with chicken, spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes, for the same price as mine. We also ended with decaf cappuccinos and a dessert platter with four samples, plus mini biscotti. We ate like kings and paid the piper beaucoup bucks. Still wonderful quality though and I like how it's one of those restaurants that still give you a veg and potato with the entree. We tried the mixed veg and mashed potato which were great especially to enjoy the sauces. I believe I had the regular filet mignon last time I was there and liked it slightly more.
