Matson Oakland port closed their operations down due to equipment malfunction (per the cust svc rep). When in fact someone died falling off the ships edge while it was berthed. I had to reschedule transport of my vehicles for the next day because the rep said it would be opened the next day. I asked specifically if there was anyone hurt or killed she said "no" that it was just an equipment malfunction. This caused delays and for the transport company to charge me more money for the second attempt and now third delivery attempt!! What is the issue with being honest matson? Had you been honest I would have rescheduled everything to a more appropriate date. I mean what assholes you are! Next time I'll just stick to pasha. read more

Matson did a great job. I shipped my car to Hawaii from Oakland. It took 2 weeks. Checking the vehicle in was easy when shipping it out from the mainland. Shipping it back to the mainland from Hawaii you'll need insurance and permission from lender to ship it back. Things didn't work out for me in Hawaii I had to ship my vehicle back. It took a total of 3 weeks because of a hurricane. Pick it was super easy as well. If I had to ship my vehicle again, I will definitely go with them. Staffs are very friendly and nice. read more

I would highly suggest if you want to ship your car to use another company. The customer service rep gave me the wrong pick up date and address. For something I paid $1,200 for while other companies were charging $800 I would want the info to be correct. The customer service rep sounded PO on the phone, I get it your job sucks, but I paid money to have my car here!!!! Your job it literally reading off the screen when it will arrive and where I should pick it up. You're ridiculous if you can't follow those 2 instructions. Dropped my vehicle off with them in November to be shipped to Hilo from Long Beach. Three times the estimated availability date was pushed back until finally, they came clean. They have no idea where the vehicle is. They are not sure if it ever made it on to the initial ship and do not know if it made it to Honolulu or Hilo. At least the woman on the phone was super nice and apologetic that they lost my vehicle. It was a brand new truck I just purchased which is kind of sad (I never even got to see it or touch it). They did say if it shows up they will let me know but to be prepared for it never showing up, which was nice of them. Without a vehicle there is no damage report or claim to file so I am out $34000 plus the $2000 Matson charged and the $1000 the transport cost from Sacramento to Long Beach. I would just think with the millions of dollars they got from the PPP loans (that they don't have to pay back) that they would be able to hire employees to keep track of people's vehicles. Once again, the customer service department was super nice so I am just going to let it slide and see if the bank will give me another loan for a different vehicle. I understand that things can happen and that Matson shouldn't have to be responsible for silly things like theft, damage, inventory discrepancies, scheduling conflicts, employee accountability, or security of personal property. Besides the few small hiccups I would say overall it has been an absolute pleasure doing business with this fine establishment. If you need to ship a vehicle, look no further. Matson did an excellent job shipping my car to Hawaii. I booked them with an auto transport broker. The cost to ship a car from Oakland to Hawaii is $1500 which is very comparable to the other quotes I got. The process is so easy. Just drop it off with Matson at the Port of Oakland. The office staff is super friendly and easily answered any questions I had. Make sure your car is in tip top shape before you drop it off. They won't ship your car if you have things like cracks or chips in any of your windows or mirrors. After you drop if off, you are then able to track your car's progress on their website once its at sea. My car arrived in Hawaii well before the expected date. I shipped my truck from here to Hawaii back in March and I had no problems. As long as you follow all the directions that Matson gives you, the process should be very smooth like it went for me. The employees were nice and efficient. The only part about this experience was that they insisted on no pictures being taken of their facility. Im guessing it's probably for security reasons. Our vehicle was damaged upon arrival. We tried to report it to the agent at the port but he ignored us and said it must have been broken when we dropped it off. We have a record that is was working and their was no damage when we dropped it off in Hawaii but he would not change his assessments. All of the lights on the dashboard were lit up. I am trying to go through the claims process with Matson. My car arrived in Oakland completely dead. It wouldn't turn over. When they jumped the car my dash was lit up like a Christmas trees. Happy holidays for me. I left a negative review of google and they reached out to me once but I haven't hear a peep since. That was a month ago. Their claims process is a total nightmare and I sent a detailed email with documents, statements from a mechanic and all the receipts for work performed. Haven't heard anything. I shipped my 2015 Rav4 from Guam. It took 21 days from dropping off at Guam Matson to Oakland Matson. Overall experience is great with the help of Western Overseas Corp as broker. First, you have book the car, contact a broker, clean them up and drop-off at Matson Guam. I have my authorization letter from the lien holder and car registration. ISF (prepared by broker) should be done first before Matson can load the car into the vessel. Once it has been loaded, wait until it arrives LA port. 2nd, once it's already at LA port, broker should inform you that the car has been custom clear, so by the time it arrives Oakland, it is ready for pick-up. Bring the bill of lading and ID with you. 3rd, register the car in DMV California. You have 10 days window to register the car without penalty. BTW, I made an online appointment a week before the car arrives in California. DMV is always 2 weeks fully book ahead. Make sure you have the previous registration and the certificate of title. If it is under lien, bring the authorization from the lien holder. The owner(s) in previous registration should also sign for the new registration in California DMV form. Overall experience is awesome. The car came with dent/scratch during the course of travel. The manager took some pictures and gave me instruction how to file a claim. The claim instruction is straightforward, just follow the instructions. After sending the documents, a week after, Matson sent the cheque for repair. shipped my brand new Kia Soul from Oakland to Maui and it arrived in the condition I left it at the dock in. My lack of 5 stars is due to the length of time it takes to get the car to you, but I will explain. First off, some of the negative reviews could have been avoided if the owner followed directions. I took my car to the car wash before I dropped it off. I washed it, waxed it and dried it completely. It was in perfect condition. I vacuumed it and left nothing in it except the manual in the glove box. That is what you are supposed to do. I arrived a half hour before lunch ended as was first in line after lunch. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Getting my car after it got to Maui (which was 20 days later) was the hard part. It took so long. But, that is because, it arrived in Honolulu on a Thursday and the shipment from Oahu to Maui goes every Friday. It missed a week, so therefore, took another week to get to Maui. And then there was Thanksgiving. So it got in on Saturday. I didn't wait to be called. I went to the office and found this all out. So early on Monday morning, I went straight to the dock and was first, so I had no wait. My car was ready. It had no marks or damage and I picked it up in 15 minutes. If you are going to register your vehicle on Maui, you HAVE to have the registration, title or MSO. I had none of those because of a long story, and I am now dealing with the DMV. But my advice is make sure you read all the requirements for Matson and for the DMV in your home state and new state and county so you know what to expect and it will avoid bad reviews that are really your own fault, and not Matson's. They did a good job and everyone I dealt with was friendly and helpful. read more

Shipped my 2008 Sentra Nissan from Honolulu, HI on 5/23 to Oakland, CA. Process was great and easy. The crew in Honolulu were great. Left it in good condition. It was arrived in Oakland on 6/5/13,five days early. Went to pick it up and it was completely dead! No lights no nothing came on. I was told by the mechanic who jumbstarted my car that this is normal from having a car sit too long. The thing is, I've had my car sit for up to two weeks while I travel and this was never a problem. I've shipped my car with Matson before and I didn't have this. The Matson mechanic at the Oakland port told me that it will be fine just drive it for 20 minutes and battery life should be back to normal. I got home 4 hours later. Turn it off and could not start it again. I had to jumpstart it again to take it to my local mechanic and he said that it appears that something on my car was left on while it was shipped for my car to be completely dead. In addition, every time I called the woman where just plain bitches. They also decided to ship my vehicle two weeks after it was delivered on time for the first shipment. I've used Matson a number of times to go between Oakland and Kahalui Maui. The last time they scratched up my bumper and cost me $400 for the repair. I just put in a claim for it but because it was more than a year my claim was denied. It's not easy when your car is left on the island and you live primarily in CA. A year is not enough.
