Mate Factor is lovely! I had never had mate before and thought that it would be cool to check this place out before leaving Savannah. I ordered the green chai mate latte. This latte had the perfect level of sweetness and was smooth. I also tried a breakfast sandwich while I was there and really liked it. They had plenty of other treats here that I wanted to try, but was too full to try anything else. One of my friends said that the banana bread was good. We stayed a couple days in Savannah and tried this breakfast place twice. Both times the coffee urn was empty at 9am. The replacement took way to long and they forgot to let me know that coffee was now available again. The egg on a roll is microwaved and everything comes on paper plates and cup. This is our go to spot for breakfast brunch or lunch after a weekend in Savannah or Tybee Island. The staff is super friendly and they are always willing to make adjustments to accommodate your dietary requirements. The food is made to order and is always delicious and super fresh. The portions are very filling and fairly priced for the high quality ingredients. Lots of the items are organic and you can feel good about eating them. The breads and pastries are made with Organic ingredients and utilize maple syrup or other non processed sugars like agave for sweetness. The dining areas are very clean and cozy but inside seating is limited so if you see an open table make sure to slide in and save it if you're dining on premises. They have more seating outside in the courtyard but in the Summer it can be quite hot and humid in this part of the country. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting something unique and healthy but don't take my word for it go try yourself! As it was a nice sunny Sunday morning today, my wife and I drove downtown, parked our car, and planned to take a leisurely stroll through and around the neighborhoods bordering Forsyth Park. After parking our car off of Habersham, we came across Maté Factor. The sign out front stated that they sold Yerba Maté (an herbal tea), coffee, and "wholesome bakery" items. My wife has been a fan of mate' ever since she first had some on a trip to Uruguay several years ago. So we stepped inside what we anticipated to be the usual nondescript coffee house & bakery. Boy, were we surprised! This place is an absolute delight and a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I don't think that my prose can do it justice, so I will just direct you to the photos I took. I could envision spending an entire day inside just relaxing, eating, and drinking coffee or tea in one of the several distinctly original and interesting seating areas. As we had just eaten breakfast at home, we couldn't take advantage of devouring any of the delicious-looking bakery items on display. (Once again, I turn your attention to my photos.) That will have to wait until next time. But we did order tea (my wife) and coffee (me), and sat ourselves down in two big, soft, leather chairs in the front room. We sipped our beverages, talked and relaxed for a while, and then continued on our Sunday stroll. Talk about charming! This place is unique and just oozes comfort. Comfort foods and drinks, great bakery treats and just a wonderul environment to sit and relax. It's just a few blocks east of Forsythe Park, so it's an easy stroll over there to enjoy your treats/coffee and people watch. We did this 2 days in a row and can't wait to go back and do it again. Their sweet rolls are among the best I ever had and their cappucinos are rock solid, yet unique in their flavoring. Price wise, think Starbucks, though the baked treats are a little more expensive than the Seattle coffee chain offerings. Even so, totally worth purchasing. They do wraps, sandwiches, and I think 1 breakfast sandwich, as well as a few different varieties of fresh baked loaves of bread, all reasonably priced for being home baked right there. Tried a few desserts (sweet potato pound cake, banana bread), while they looked good, I didn't care for them. The banana bread wasn't fully mixed, having a small section of flour in the middle. Their granola is solid, and tasted a sample of their olive bread, which was nice as well with some olive oil. read more

The amazing It factor. I adored this place. Very sad that I couldn't sit here and eat since we were running late on time. We did a pick up order from here recently. The employees are wonderful in assisting on the phone. I didn't have the menu on me and they helped me decide what I wanted plus were so patient. What I ordered: Their speciality drink of old st. Joe with some hazelnut flavoring , this was a strong yummy coffee drink. I'm not a muffin kind of girl but decided to get it here, and I became a fan. The cranberry almond muffin was scrumptious. Lastly ordered the spinach egg sandwich and yum it had such good flavor. Note: Review based on visit pre-COVID Mate Factor (MF) is such an interesting and delightful little cafe! After following the directions on G maps, when I finally found it, it was like finding a magical house! MF is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood of large, old houses and up the street from Kroger. It's also a few blocks away from Forsyth Park and after a morning of playing on the playground, I took the kids to find MF for a some lunch. - Parking - We walked from Forsyth Park (which was only about 5 mins), as we approached, I noticed parking was plentiful on the streets, all around the cafe. No meters either! - Vibe - If I could describe Mate Factor in one word in terms of vibe, I think it would be serene. I don't even know how to begin describing it except that you just need to go and see it for yourself. It's just so unique! The outside of the building is yellow and when you walk inside it's a narrow space, but they use up every inch of the space. There are different levels with booth seating and leather lounge chairs by the two front windows, seating below ground level and more seating up the small staircase. There is so much character and detail. The outdoor space is also just as charming with mosaic table tops and iron chairs on their patio in the back and wooden tables and chairs on the street in and around the store front. The bathroom is also quite different! - TLC - The staff compliment the vibe of the space. Just real chill people and nice! - Eats / Refreshments - I ordered the Peach Iced Tea, Iced Latte, Chipotle Chicken and the Garden Turkey Sandwich that the kiddos shared. I made a few modifications and they were happy to oblige. They split them up in their own dishes which I thought was thoughtful. All delicious! - Kiddos - If you have a stroller, best spots are outside or in the back patio. It'll be hard to maneuver inside. They do not have a Kids specific menu, but there are definitely things you can find for your kiddos and based on my experience, they are happy to accommodate! As their name suggests, their signature drinks are Yerba Mate and they have a nice selection of both coffees and teas, either hot or cold. They are also known for their baked goods as well, so I'll definitely check those out on my next visit. I was just too full from the wholesome sammie to indulge the last time. The atmosphere of this place is awesome. Super authentic& great vibes. The (I'm assuming) home baked pastries, breads and breakfast items were all amazing. We had the banana bread and blueberry walnut muffin solid! We also got 2 coffee lattes, they were very low profile and coffee came through vs a Starbucks or some of those chain coffees that are over bearing with sweetness. (We did vanilla lattes and seems like they make their own organic vanilla, very nice!). Lastly we got a breakfast sandwich with corned beef, it was so delicious, unique and refreshing. Really cool place to grab a coffee or tea! Interior design is ornate and rough themed with wood awnings, booths, walls, etc... I would have given them five stars if they didn't charge me extra for vegan milk. It doesn't make sense to be charged $1 extra for something that's better for the environment, healthier for me, and costs about the same to them. We decided to stroll into this cafe during our trip to Forsyth Park. It was one of the cafes that was still open past 2pm. The cafe itself is so cute. It is located on a corner and has a few tables outside, perfect for dates and people watching. The inside of the cafe is two levels and there are little nooks everywhere. We saw several students here tucked away just working on their laptops. They have a small retail area in the front of the shop with merchandise ranging from lotions, soaps, coffees and teas. There is a fridge with takeaway items and the case of pastries is displayed by the register. My friends ordered a regular iced mate and I went with a mango iced mate. It was so refreshing. If you've never had mate it basically tastes like a mild green tea. The mango mate tasted like mango purée mixed with green tea. Yum. This cafe is so unique and cute. They reappropriated an old barn are using reclaimed wood and a skillful metal craftsman who made all the metal pieces inside this beautifully decorated quaint little shop! I've been eyeing this place for years and just never made it here until recently when my parents were back in town and wanted to try a new coffee/breakfast spot. Maté Factor has great reviews per yelp so that's how we stumbled here. And the nice thing is it's literally a 5 minute walk from Forsyth Park. We came here around 11 Monday morning and it was not too crowded ( with kids I've mastered the art of missing breakfast rushes because we don't make it out of the house early enough Hahahah). Maté Factor is so cute just from the outside, you walk in and it gives off such cozy vibes with seating both downstairs as well as upstairs. But what really stole the show here for me was their outside seating, it was almost little a secret garden with cute tables and it was even shaded off a little to make it bearable in the hot summer months. My parents both ordered their coffees, while my oldest ordered a chai latte and then my youngest and I both ordered teas. We also ordered some bites to share- we went with a date bar, their sweet potato pound cake, a egg and cheese sandwich as well as their spinwich. I wasn't too overwhelmed with our picks but the sweet potato pound cake and the spinwich were really good. What was really the highlight of my breakfast here was their teas, seriously some of the best tea I've had and I'd come back for more. All in all such a cute place, there's street parking galore and Forsyth Park right down the street. And if you're a big tea drinker this place has some of the best tea. read more

I came here my first real day in Savannah and have been coming back ever since. I love the indoor and outdoor seating area. All of the baked good are very friendly for people with dietary restrictions. I have had Mate before but never like this . I have forgotten about Starbucks and rather bring my money to a business that cares what they put into their drinks and food. Staff is always friendly and helpful . I cannot get enough of iced Mayan mocha or the iced chai. Their muffins are phenomenal . They also have spanakopita the best I've had since my childhood best friends Greek family's parties. Fascinating little shop, with tons of character. Everything feels natural and homemade. My wife got the Not Chocolate drink--wonderfully warm and smooth, and I got the dark roast drip coffee which was exactly perfect.
