I ordered a thanksgiving meal for a family of 4 and it was totally unacceptable. I have tried to reach management to no avail. I paid a lot of money and it was not real turkey but pressed turkey loaf. The stuffing was mislabeled and creamed spinach came instead so no stuffing. The rest of the sides were totally bland--canned cranberry sauce, plain green beans and some apples with topping. This was a horrendous way for my family to spend the holiday. read more

Server was very attentive and checked in on us along with the manager! As for the food, pancakes and sides were great but I do not recommend the steak and eggs unfortunately. The steak was very rubbery and dry, and the eggs were very choppy similar to carton scrambled eggs. we have been eating or ordering from this restaurant for years. The Cantonese food was always out favorite until last Sunday. We ordered stir fry rice noodle with beef and seafood tofu pot. We ordered this two dishes many times before. The rice noodle was cooked with spoiled oil which can not be eaten but trashed. Has really gone downhill since we were here about 4 yrs ago. iPizzas used to be served hot and melty now were meh and lukewarm. Service was mediocre with no follow up to see how everything was and to top it off, there was a mouse running around behind our booth, Our server had to be asked twice to inform the manager who finally came. We just held a private party in the Barrel Room for a 60th birthday/30th wedding anniversary. The space was perfect for our guest list of 42! The waitstaff was superb and a manager was on hand to address any issues...there were none. Drinks were filled without delay, food was delivered, hot and delicious, and the event space offered a cozy fireplace with soft music playing on the TV. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and congratulated us on picking the perfect venue for our celebration. This time I arrived during a shift change and a holiday party going on in the back. This was on a Friday afternoon. A nice DMV local chain that delivers on large wood-fired pies and nice cocktails. With around a dozen locations in DC, MD, and VA (strangely there's a location in Florida!), Matchbox is always consistent and it's hard to go wrong with the pizza. Matchbox follows Covid compliance with tables and booths 6 feet apart and paperless menus that can be accessed by a QR code with your phone. While I try to keep a pizza simple, Matchbox similar to Pizza Paradiso, the more toppings the better! The pizza can handle a mountain of toppings and better loaded up. The Cremini Mushroom pizza is fully loaded and bursting with flavor! The pizza is packed with grilled mushrooms and onions, roasted garlic, roasted shallots, ricotta, mozzarella cheese, spicy banana peppers, and topped with arugula with a drizzle of truffle oil. The cheese and veggies paired very well together. I'm typically not a big fan of white pizza and love a zesty sauce, but didn't miss it! While I wasn't a big fan of the tangy banana peppers, they added a spicy kick! The Bourbon Crisp cocktail is a great way to enjoy the fall! Jim beam bourbon, apple cider, lemon, cinnamon syrup blend well together and glad I skipped the orange bitters. So good that I got Round #2. The 14' Large pizza is way too big to conquer. Would be nice to have a smaller 10' personal size that I could easily devour in a sitting. Sadly I don't see Cremini Mushroom pizza on the menu anymore, hopefully it'll be resurrected! So i usually frequent the silver spring matchbox but decided to go to pentagon city, Pentagon city stated at 2:30 that they had no more seats. The entire upstairs was empty but they said they had reservations coming in so they couldn't sit my 2 person party so i headed to merrifield and was vey disappointed. The only thing good about the place was my waitress. She was very friendly and attentive. First their pizza oven was broken (if u have had the pizza then u know thats one of their best items) , then i ordered a tower and it was brought in a pitcher (not in the cute glass tower that the silver spring location uses. They don't offer full pieces of chicken like silver spring. They only offer little boneless cutlets and they were overcooked, and furthermore my glass and silverware were dirty. I will be making a reservation at the silver spring location from now on. Now i see why this one was practically empty. read more

We ordered a half cheese half pepperoni pizza, with extra cheese. The pizza that was brought to us was not like our previous Matchbox experience. Barely had any cheese (even though we paid for extra) was over cooked and just simply not good. On the other hand the jumbo fried shrimp was great! Perfectly battered and seasoned. Ordered the burger and added bacon. The burger was okay, but not for the price. The burger was also over cooked. In addition, I wanted to order a glass of wine but the prices were outrageous. I know when dining you're always going to pay way over what it's worth but they had wine by the glass for $16-21 for bottles of wine that cost $10. Will not be returning to this matchbox. read more

If I can give zero stars to this restaurant I would! This place is terrible on all levels. Service is poor, food is average, management is not present and prices are high. We went there for dinner. Although friendly, server took our order and promised to have the appetizer before the meal, as we requested. Well, meal came first and it came so fast that it was clear that the food was just sitting and not prepared at that time. Food was served and the server did not bother to ensure that we have utensils. We had to ask another server for them. Management did not bother to reach out and apologize. Server never checked on us at all --- we had to call her for the bill. We paid almost $100 for a meal that we could have somewhere else for less than a half. Will never go there again! read more

Last weekend, we had a cheers for 18 years birthday celebration at Matchbox mosaic for my daughter. She chose this restaurant because we had a great sweet 16 there in January for her sister. Once again, the food and service were outstanding! We were able to select items from the menu, and manager Nick created our own special menu. Instead of apologizing they also delete their google bad reviews!!! So here I go again: Terrible experience with the kitchen staff. I kindly ordered a meatball pizza without bacon, specifying this twice. My family and I sat in the booth next to the kitchen. I was enjoying the place until I overheard a kitchen staff member saying in Spanish, "This pizza has no bacon, right?" The staff member in charge of the toppings repeatedly denied adding bacon, even after being questioned more than four times by the same employee. Then, he "mumbled" to another coworker, who was cleaning, that the pizza did indeed have bacon and that he was just going to "simply remove it," followed by some laughter, as if that really changed anything. Unfortunately for them, I am a Mexican Muslim, and I fully understood the conversation, including the slang. Knowing the pizza still had bacon after being baked, they only removed it from the corners of the pizza (????) and, consciously knowing it wasn't a mistake, sent it out to our table with plenty of crunchy bacon. The topping guy left the area, of course. Since I had overheard the entire exchange, I checked the pizza, and sure enough, it had crispy bacon. I kindly asked the waitress to show me the menu, hoping maybe the "meatball pizza" included some "crispy peppers" or something, trying to convince myself that I had misheard. She then explained that the crispy topping was indeed bacon. She apologized sincerely and offered to have a new pizza made, which I accepted, understanding that mistakes happen. However, the truly insulting part was that the Spanish-speaking kitchen staff continued mocking and gossiping about remaking the pizza "with no bacon." A lady wearing a hat in the kitchen said to the cooks, "A ustedes les vale madre, ¿verdad?" which translates to, "You don't give a f***, do you?" All while laughing, as if my simple request--a request that I am paying for--was some kind of joke to them. I definitely didn't want to consume anything made by kitchen staff who couldn't grasp the magnitude of the situation. And that's what makes this even more infuriating. I'm paying for a service. This isn't a favor, this isn't something I'm begging for--it's a basic, paying customer's request. I am here, in good faith, paying for food that should respect my dietary needs and beliefs, only to be openly mocked. It's like serving a child with a deadly peanut allergy a meal loaded with peanuts, knowing full well what you're doing, and then thinking it's enough to just scrape them off the plate. The next thing you know, an ambulance is rushing the child to the hospital, and the parents are filing a lawsuit for gross negligence. The difference here is, instead of an EpiPen and a hospital trip, it was about my religious beliefs being completely disregarded. This wasn't a simple mistake--it was a conscious decision to mock and ignore a paying customer's request. And the worst part? They did it with a smile and a laugh. Ordered a 1/2 and 1/2 pizza to go. Service was friendly and prompt. We waited inside so we could eat it fresh n hot outside. When we opened the box we both looked at each other confused as to what we were looking at. This will go down as the worst, most expensive pizza I've ever come across. First off, it was cold even tho they handed it to us saying it just came out of the brick oven. The restaurant was in between lunch n dinner so there was only a few customers. Pizza looked like someone took a tortilla (there was no crust), smeared a little sauce on it and sprinkled the smallest amount of cheese on it and charged $24. My friend and I took a few a couple bites and threw the rest in the trash. We ordered the 14" but wasn't close to that size. It didn't look nor taste like a pizza cooked in a brick oven, wasn't 14", had barely any ingredients, over priced, tasted like a stale dry cracker, a complete rip off. What makes this even worse is Thompson Hospitality also owns Wise Guys pizza which puts out a great product and knows how to make various styles with great execution. This place is an embarrassment to even call pizza, along with adding such a high price for a subpar product. A $2 frozen Mamma Celeste tastes like gourmet compared to this. You can get a high quality pizza elsewhere in Masonic cooked in a wood fired oven for well below what you would pay here that is far superior in every aspect. I'd go as far to say I'm surprised they're still in business serving food like that with such a high $. read more

This is solely a review for the Happy Hour/"Social Hour". Had the soft pretzel, chicken bites, mini burgers, a "Matchbox Meat" pizza, blue moon, and cookies & cream milkshake. Soft pretzel was excellent, probably one of the best I've had in the general area, wish it had a little extra salt. Not usually a fan of pretzel cheese dips, but this one was great and not too overpowering. The chicken bites were also pretty good, they used to have wings on the HH menu pre-pandemic, but this is good enough for now. The pizza and burgers are both bleh, not bad, but not good. Burgers have no toppings or spread/mayo so even though they are well cooked they are bland and dry. Pizza is really not anything to write home about, reminded me of one of those Totinos party pizzas. Milkshake was alright, a little thin, but easily drinkable. Service was great. read more

Came here with the family while I was in town. The little one wanted pizza. The service was good, the food was a hit and a miss. I ordered the Nashville hot wings. It was a dry rub on them and they were far from being hot but they were crispy. The shrimp and grits were good. Plenty of flavor but the shrimp was over cooked. The pizza was really good. Thin and crispy and plenty of flavor. If you like mustard the deviled eggs are for you. The mustard takes over any other flavors. For dessert we had the lemon cake which was moist and tangy. The donuts which were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We were fortunate to have arrived during happy hour when they have some pretty good deals on food and drinks but even with that we were still looking at a $200.00 check for three adults and a toddler. read more

Experienced this business for a private dinner after the funeral with full military honors of a close family friend. No pictures of the meal, out of respect for the circumstances/situation. The private area for our party was right near the bathrooms, so it was semi-private. The first thing I noticed upon arrival to the table was that the name on the menu was misspelled. I learned after the meal that the business arbitrarily changed some of the menu items from what had been contracted. The food itself was good. As people arrived, each table received a ginormous meatball in a heavy cast-iron mini skillet, an order of dynamite shrimp, and an order of spinach artichoke dip with chips. I ordered a 10-inch kids cheese pizza but one of my children said the sauce was still too spicy (as opposed to the zesty tomato sauce on the standard cheese pizza offering). For my meal, I enjoyed the simple salad with mixed greens, shaved red onion and a few pieces of cherry tomato in a pungent vinaigrette. I also enjoyed the steak frites with chimichurri. My children & best friend thoroughly enjoyed the mini donuts with berry and chocolate dipping sauces for dessert. My best friend said they were like beignets, which spurred a conversation about travel and future plans. The others at the table seemed to enjoy the berry cheesecake. One started off slicing the huge piece in half, perhaps to save some for breakfast with coffee the next day, but ultimately cleared their plate anyway. I can't fault the business for service. We were a large crowd and they did the best they could, while continuing to manage the rest of their customers. I was disappointed for my close friends, that what was agreed upon wasn't fully received. I do recommend a visit to the shopping area. I learned what was once a single-street of shops has expanded into a several-block area of shopping and entertainment, and being a week before Thanksgiving, it's all decorated for the holidays. Sometimes when you go somewhere and sit outside the service can be kind of slow/the staff is less attentive. Not the case here! My waitress, Liz, was *spot on*. Gave great recommendations and was very welcoming to everyone both in her section and those walking through to get to the door.
