We had an amazing time enjoying an easy Saturday at Mosaic District with Matchbox's restaurant week menu. The burger was so tasty and juicy and they have the best Caesar salad! Lena was absolutely wonderful as our server. Friendly and very attentive. We will be back soon! read more

I came last night right after happy hour with a friend. Let me just say, the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of where they chose to seat us- by the water station and dirty pizza dishes. There was a very persistent gnat circling our food. But I digress. We ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza and Miso Salmon. When I tell you we were both pleasantly surprised by how delicious our meals were. We'd heard mixed reviews about the place so we weren't sure what we were gonna get. But yeah, the salmon and rice combo, with the miso sauce was amazing. And the pesto on my pizza... wow. And don't get me started on the cheese pull lol 10/10 recommend those two dishes. read more

Are here for the first time this afternoon. They have a happy hour from 3-6PM on drinks and pizza I believe. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip with chips as well as the chicken fettuccini. Both of the dishes were ok, but not amazing. The outdoor patio is very nice especially with this weather! The waiter was attentive and friendly! read more

If I can give zero stars to this restaurant I would! This place is terrible on all levels. Service is poor, food is average, management is not present and prices are high. We went there for dinner. Although friendly, server took our order and promised to have the appetizer before the meal, as we requested. Well, meal came first and it came so fast that it was clear that the food was just sitting and not prepared at that time. Food was served and the server did not bother to ensure that we have utensils. We had to ask another server for them. Management did not bother to reach out and apologize. Server never checked on us at all --- we had to call her for the bill. We paid almost $100 for a meal that we could have somewhere else for less than a half. Will never go there again! read more

Instead of apologizing they also delete their google bad reviews!!! So here I go again: Terrible experience with the kitchen staff. I kindly ordered a meatball pizza without bacon, specifying this twice. My family and I sat in the booth next to the kitchen. I was enjoying the place until I overheard a kitchen staff member saying in Spanish, "This pizza has no bacon, right?" The staff member in charge of the toppings repeatedly denied adding bacon, even after being questioned more than four times by the same employee. Then, he "mumbled" to another coworker, who was cleaning, that the pizza did indeed have bacon and that he was just going to "simply remove it," followed by some laughter, as if that really changed anything. Unfortunately for them, I am a Mexican Muslim, and I fully understood the conversation, including the slang. Knowing the pizza still had bacon after being baked, they only removed it from the corners of the pizza (????) and, consciously knowing it wasn't a mistake, sent it out to our table with plenty of crunchy bacon. The topping guy left the area, of course. Since I had overheard the entire exchange, I checked the pizza, and sure enough, it had crispy bacon. I kindly asked the waitress to show me the menu, hoping maybe the "meatball pizza" included some "crispy peppers" or something, trying to convince myself that I had misheard. She then explained that the crispy topping was indeed bacon. She apologized sincerely and offered to have a new pizza made, which I accepted, understanding that mistakes happen. However, the truly insulting part was that the Spanish-speaking kitchen staff continued mocking and gossiping about remaking the pizza "with no bacon." A lady wearing a hat in the kitchen said to the cooks, "A ustedes les vale madre, ¿verdad?" which translates to, "You don't give a f***, do you?" All while laughing, as if my simple request--a request that I am paying for--was some kind of joke to them. I definitely didn't want to consume anything made by kitchen staff who couldn't grasp the magnitude of the situation. And that's what makes this even more infuriating. I'm paying for a service. This isn't a favor, this isn't something I'm begging for--it's a basic, paying customer's request. I am here, in good faith, paying for food that should respect my dietary needs and beliefs, only to be openly mocked. It's like serving a child with a deadly peanut allergy a meal loaded with peanuts, knowing full well what you're doing, and then thinking it's enough to just scrape them off the plate. The next thing you know, an ambulance is rushing the child to the hospital, and the parents are filing a lawsuit for gross negligence. The difference here is, instead of an EpiPen and a hospital trip, it was about my religious beliefs being completely disregarded. This wasn't a simple mistake--it was a conscious decision to mock and ignore a paying customer's request. And the worst part? They did it with a smile and a laugh. It's beyond disrespectful--it's a blatant disregard for people's trust in your establishment. read more

What a train wreck of an experience. We had lunch reservations yet the first table they tried to seat us at (in the not even half full restaurant) was the table closest to the kitchen. They did accommodate placing us in a better location but seemed annoyed. Things went downhill from there. They used to have cinnamon buns that came out in a cast iron skillet for the table to share. The waiter suggested the sharing cinnamon roll so we got that. A few minutes later a busby dropped of a single XL size cinnamon roll - yep just 1. I understand that restaurants change things but this was definitely not a reasonable sharing size for 4 adults and no way to easily share it since it's a single cinnamon roll. I actually asked if they were sure they brought us the right thing. The waiter serverly effed up our order by replacing all the eggs Benedict poached eggs with over easy eggs. She insisted we had to specify how we wanted them poached. When the order came out we all had fried eggs on our eggs Benedict. She then argued with me about whether or not the eggs actually were poached and I had to get a manager involved to fix our food order. Overall the food was very bland and nothing special. In addition to the food issues nobody cleared any used plates from our table, they did not bring us water, and they didn't offer refills on any drinks without us proactively flagging someone down. They did give us a small discount for the food situation but overall I won't be back and definitely would not recommend them to anyone else. As for ambiance - despite it being father's day and the restaurant having mostly families there they had no crayons for the kids (go buy a box at Target) and the vibe was much more sports bar than family brunch. The music was too loud, the TVs were tuned to sports (good) and Law and Order SVU (weird and not appropriate for small eyes). Sadly, we won't be back, and recommend you keep walking too. read more

Dropped by this restaurant/bar for the first time with my friend. Got a couple of drinks at the bar waiting to get seated at JINYA, actually. Ordered a Mule drink which was pretty good! Got a chance to chill for a bit before leaving for dinner. Received great customer service from our waitress and we had a good time, albeit a short one. But I think I'll be back sometime. Mosaic District is a cool spot! Always have a good time going to a Matchbox restaurant. Have been to a couple around the DMV area and the food has been tasty. Service is normally pretty decent and orders come out nicely. read more

Has a beautiful outdoor setting! Indoor or outdoor seating is available. I came here on a random Wednesday with a friend I was catching up with. They sat us down quickly which was great, we went around 1-2pm ish and there wasn't a big crowd or anything. The chicken and waffles were so good! 10/10! The drinks could have been a little stronger but we gave them an 8/10. Our server was great but we wished he would have come around to check on us a little more. Overall, the experience was an 8/10 for me and I would definitely come back!! Since it's in Mosaic there are a ton of other stores and things to do there from Muse paint bar to Target! It can get a little packed so definitely mask up! read more

I've been to matchbox before. This is moreso a review of my experience with a particular dish last night. I ordered the Crab Cakes... for $32. It was advertised as "two jumbo Crab cakes, a side of old Bay fries, and Cole slaw". What I received looked more like a jumbo order of fries, two regular Crab cakes, and a side of Cole slaw. I also had stomach pains all night into this morning after eating them. I understand you can't give everyone huge Crab cakes, I do, but if that's the case just reduce the price and let people know what they're really getting. I didn't get $32 worth of food, and I feel bamboozled (and maybe mildly food poisoned? IDK). Otherwise, the service was decent and whatnot. But the value and quality of the food I received were questionable at best. The fries were a tad unseasoned as well. Food: 6/10 Drinks: N/A Service: 7/10 Aesthetics: 9/10 Value: 5/10 Overall: 27/40 read more

the service was amazing and our server Ameen was attentive and respectful. had an amazing time!!

I got the strawberry French toast. I ate the whole thing so sadly no pictures. The waitress was nice and it was quiet and nice. Very calm.

I checked out this place while visiting in VA. We had a big party of 14 people. So the waiter automatically gets 20% tip. I think because of that we got subpar service. When you know you're getting a nice tip why put in the effort. So sad. Second, is it me or is the price of food getting more expensive and the portion are getting smaller? My calamari was $17 and it must of had only 12 pieces. Over $1 a piece? This restaurant will be a one time experience. read more

First time at this matchbox location and wow what a horrible experience. They were literally out of everything at 6pm on a Sunday. Cauliflower crust, tuna salad, pecans for a salad. Cobb salad had a pecan in it (but they were out f pecans)(individual who ordered it has a nut allergy). Also waited a long time for drinks and entrees. When I say long time ordered around 645 and some food came at 752 (restaurant was not busy at all). Asked for extra dressing several times, never received. Protein on salad room temperature, undercooked and not seasoned. Server was great no issues there but overall experience with the restaurant was not good. read more

We came for lunch the host told us there was a 20 minute wait. So no problem we told him we sit at the bar after peeking around the dining I saw there was plenty of tables open. The bar was ok the service was good but the two stars is the food. My pizza was raw and salty and the salad not too jump either I know it's just a salad but for the price of $22 we expected fresh ingredients not corn out of a can and frozen chicken tossed in the drier poor quality ingredients and very expensive salad! The rest of menu needs a makeover. Not sure you want to waste your money here. read more

What do you do when you order fig and prosciutto pizza but they are out of figs??? On a suggestion from the server you sub-in pears!! Thank you server, as much as I like some figgy pizza the pair "paired" well with the prosciutto and honey drizzle beautifully. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was quick and efficient. Next time I want to try the fig and compare. read more

First time in and I was here for a friend's birthday. I will start with the good. Love Matchbox as I've been to other locations and have loved them. I think the atmosphere is really nice, hustle and bustle without it being too loud. They're able to accommodate larger parties too which is always nice. Showed up a little late, everyone's food came out shortly and no server asked if I wanted a drink, or food, which was a bit annoying. Following, no server returned to the table after bringing the food so I was never able to get anything. Pretty disappointed that no servers were checking in on us considering we were a large party. Overall, I love matchbox, and the service has always been 10/10 for me at the One Loudoun location, however, if this were my one and only experience I wouldn't recommend or return. read more

The pizza at Matchbox is always great. I prefer thicker crust pizzas, but the thin crust pizzas here are cooked perfectly and not soggy. I especially love the mushroom pizza with cremini mushrooms. Very fresh, tasty, and plenty of toppings. We also had the buffalo wings. The skin was not as crunchy as I hoped. We came here during happy hour and the restaurant was pretty empty. Our server was attentive and checked on us a lot. Maybe a little too much. The staff were all very friendly and smiley. Before leaving, don't forget to pick up a box of matches. They are the best matches ever. Not flimsy at all. read more

Ecem was great!!!! Highly recommend. She offered great selections and the food was excellent.

The food is yummy and the service is exceptional. We went for their Sunday brunch, but since I'm allergic to gluten, their brunchy-breakfast food menu was not an option. They did have a separate menu for their gluten free options. I ended up having the Roasted salmon + spinach salad (the name is what it is). My boyfriend had the Matchbox skillet. It was scrambled eggs, cheese, and veggies served in a petite skillet. We both mentioned that our food was tasty. The younger person at the table had the children's French toast. It was presented in a really fun way: served as a face and it was really cute. It was made using lemon-flavored bread. For adults, this would be a plus, for a kid, not so much. When she added maple syrup, it made things worse. But, this is where the great service kicked in. As it happened, the light bulb burned out as we were sitting at table. The manager (Daniel) stopped by to explain that they had noticed, but would like to wait until after our lunch so that it would be more convenient for us. Daniel also asked how we were enjoying our food. We mentioned that although we were enjoying our food, the kid's menu item wasn't enjoyable for a kid. He asked if there was anything else on the menu she would like to try instead. He asked her many questions and they came up with a veggie plate (off the menu) that he said that she could order on our next visit too. Not only did he care that the adults were happy. He cared about the younger person's happiness too (and, as everyone should, treated her like a valued person, who she is). read more

Stopped for dinner on the patio on a busy summer Saturday so I was prepared for slower service but the server was barely attentive - 10 minutes to be greeted, 10 minutes to order waters, and 10 minutes to receive them was indicative of the meal to come. Food came not too much later but everyone didn't have silverware and the runner didn't bring some when asked. Pizza a friend ordered was undercooked and the salmon on my salad was somehow dry but not browned and it came with black olives instead of kalamata. Overpriced and won't return. read more

We went on a Wednesday night, and the service was pretty terrible. First the waitress spilled a glass of Rosé all over the table (which we don't really fault her for, but my friend thinks it damaged her phone). My other friend's rosé had a weird grainy substance in her glass and had to be replaced. MOST IMPORTANTLY, we saw a mouse running in and around the booth for the entirety of our meal. We let the waitress know, and she said she would speak to the manager. We never spoke with the manager directly, but we absolutely should have. We were all grossed out by the experience and will not be returning. read more

Four stars for food service and ambiance and drinks!! Not sure what the problem is but this restaurant needs help. I partly blame myself because it happened once and I went back again... There should not be any take out option because your food will be cold 45 minutes later when they quote "10-15 max". It also makes zero sense why we have to communicate through the host/ hostesses when making our pizza isn't even their job. Honestly feel bad for them. Service makes everyone look clueless. read more

This place is located right in the heart of mosaic district, next to Angelika. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and take online reservations. This place does serve alcohol; beers, wines and cocktails. We noticed a lot of vegetarian options in every single category which is hard to find and started off with arrancini as the appetizer. It's basically fried rissotto balls topped with grated mozzarella and chunky tomato sauce. Although, you can never go wrong with tomato and basil, the risotto stuffing lacked flavor in general. We were there to try their famous wood fired pizzas and tried Fire + Smoke Pizza and Artichoke Pesto Pizza. The Fire and Smoke one was spicy but not super spicy as they claim it to be, your ears won't blow out with smoke trust us! The artichoke pesto has mild burnt garlic flavor which went really well with artichoke. Overall, it was a good experience trying out the pizzas, I see us coming back to try their burgers some time. read more

I ordered a large plain pizza and fries. This cost me almost $30. I picked the food up so thats without delivery. The "large pizza" they gave me was maybe 10 inches, and 4 slices(compared to a typical 16 inch pizza for the same price). The pizza was an abomination and should be dissected in a lab for research purposes, on what to avoid when creating a pizza. Its ingredients were horrendous and it was undercooked to the point it was cold. The fries I ordered(medium, cost $8) were average size fries... that were undercooked, and there were only 9(NINE) fries. Almost a dollar a fry? I've never been so unabashedly insulted by a restaurant. Do not get food from here. read more

Overall: This place hits the spot all the time. Great place to meet people, happy hour is live. The pizza is delish of course! The patio has a fire pit for the outdoor dining and you get to watch people hang out outside. Inside the decor is airy and best for work meetups and quick bite before the movies. Good: The menu is great, lunch, dinner happy hour, brunch. Lots of options to choose from and there are some good eats! spicy tuna tartare tacos, lump crab cakes although pricey, fig + prosciutto but that might be because I LOVE prosciutto ( but who doesn't). Bad: I am from NYC so to spend 20 dollars on a rather small pie (14" eight-slice) is always cringy. The drinks are also a bit on the pricey side. Must-try: Social Hour who can turn down $6-8 apps and $11 pizzas, holy grail margherita, fig + prosciutto, crab cake eggs benedict read more

Matchbox is great for pizza and sliders but did you know that it was the perfect location for children's birthday parties? Christiane V recently invited my daughter and a gaggle of toddlers to celebrate her son's third birthday party here and we had so much fun! We were set in a private space in the back of the restaurant where we got to meet the chef, roll out our own dough, and then top our pizza to our hearts desire. I've never seen our children so attentive and engaged before! After we made our pizzas we got a chance to tour the kitchen which was also a treat as well. It was like being in a real-life Mr. Rogers Neighorhood special! Ever since we attended the party my daughter has requested to make pizza every night so I know it made a huge impact on her little growing brain! I was just a guest so I don't know how difficult it was to plan the event with the staff but we had a great time -- and it was really cool to be a part of something different from the regular toddler party circuit. Two weeks ago my wife and I were in the mood for burgers and fries, and put in an order for pickup. When we got home and took out each container the amount of fries that were supplied should be an embarrassment for any restaurant. Matchbox is always an oldie but a goodie in mosaic. I think this was one of the few times I came during a lunch rush though. We got seated immediately with a party of 4 and our server came to us asking for our orders right as we sat down which was a little unusual. We asked for a couple of minutes to look at the menu but she didn't come back to us for at least 10 (totally understandable during a rush). She ended up forgetting a couple of things we asked for but no biggie, she was overall super sweet. I will caution margarita lovers that their shit is S T R O N G. Like you can smell the tequila before it reaches your table. I asked for some sprite to tame it down but unfortunately, that couldn't even save it. Went to Merrifield for some dinner on a weekend and had no luck trying to get a table for 5 without a reservation until we walked into Matchbox. This should have been a warning sign but we were just happy to get a table after striking out so many times. We were seated in some weird cubby in the middle of the restaurant which looks neat but has terrible acoustics, making it hard to have any conversations without speaking loudly. We all ordered but a few minutes later, we're told that they were out of something pretty common so had to do a change. We all got our dishes but we're already missing sauce sauce on the side for my sister. When she finally got it after asking again, we found an old fry stuck in the sauce.
