a labour day monday afternoon seemed like a good time to check out bloom bakery & cafe, so i…read morestopped in around 3:20 pm. located at seymour and robson, in the space where blenz coffee used to be, bloom is right in the middle of downtown and an easy stop if you're already wandering around robson street. the space is bright and modern, with a long, beautifully finished counter, warm wood like floors, white tables and chairs, and huge windows looking out onto the street. the dark exposed ceiling and ductwork add a bit of an industrial feel, while the greenery and floral arrangements soften everything up. it feels polished and contemporary without being overly formal. the display case has plenty of little temptations, including bite size servings of cheesecake, eclairs and croissants, alongside coffee, tea and matcha. i was particularly interested in the matcha, especially the pistachio matcha, but unfortunately, it was already sold out. and at 3:20 pm on a monday, all the croissants were gone too. labour day monday may have had something to do with it, but either way, if you're coming specifically for the pastries or a particular matcha, i'd suggest arriving earlier. bloom serves organic japanese matcha, makes its own syrups, and, very importantly in my books, there's no charge for milk substitutions. thank you. this should be normal everywhere. with the pistachio matcha off the table, i went with the iced strawberry matcha with oat milk, which arrived looking almost too pretty to disturb. the drink had lovely layers of green matcha, strawberry and strawberry cold foam on top. i was told to mix it well, and once everything came together, the strawberry syrup overpowered the matcha, while the oat milk softened everything into a smooth, creamy drink. the strawberry cold foam added an extra fruity, dessert like finish. it was a pretty drink and an enjoyable combination, although there was a little too much ice, which diluted the drink as it melted. and apparently it's owned by a 22 year old. what was i doing at 22? certainly not opening a coffee shop. honestly, gotta love her entrepreneurial spirit. there's something pretty inspiring about seeing someone that young open a business and turn a former blenz location into a 24 hour local cafe. definitely the kind of place i'm happy to support. now i just need to get there before 3:20 pm next time if i want to try their iced pistachio matcha latte and almond croissant.

Matcha vanilla soft serve's matcha flavor was strong, very soft and creamy and so delicious. Then, Matcha rice crispy squares paired with soft serve so well. I could not really taste matcha from rice crispy, may be because I mixed with soft serve. And there were strawberry jelly, strawberry puree, and strawberry whip at the bottom. When I mixed together with soft serve and rice crispy, It is so addictive. This item was definitely one of the best item at this festival in 2026. Presentation was so beautiful.
