My wife and I are retired seniors on fixed incomes where every penny counts. During our lifetimes we have dealt with many automotive repair companies over the many years we have lived in Vancouver, WA. Why have we dealt with Many automotive repair companies in Vancouver over the years? The answer is simple... we have been trying to find a automotive repair company with most of the following attributes: Honesty, trustworthiness, knowledgeable and competent mechanics, friendly and caring staff, and reasonable prices. About 14 months ago we finally found a company with all those attributes through Angies list (Master Tech Automotive- Vancouver, WA). We have two vehicles, a 1992 Camry (my wife's) and a 1998 Tacoma Pre-Runner truck (my vehicle). We have had both vehicles for quite some time and being older vehicles they need automotive service from time to time. As a matter of fact we have logged in ~ five visits to MTA in the past year involving both minor and major car problems (trouble seems to come in waves sometimes!). To start with, the Camry had a long standing oil leak which was getting worst in spite of having taken it in to at least four other automotive repair companies in the past. None of them were able to correctly diagnose the problem and correct it once and for all. EXCEPT FOR MTA- VANCOUVER !! They did some testing and a thorough visual inspection and identified the leak. Thet even took my wife and I to show us (while the Camry was up on the lift) where the problem was and then gave us a reasonable quote for the repair and a couple of days later it was fixed and we had the car back. Some months have passed since then we haven't seen anymore oil leakage!!! In 2012 I had the radiator replaced in my Tacoma Pre-Runner (prior to starting with MTA) because a leak was identified. Recently, I suspected an over heating problem had started again on the Tacoma, so I took it to MTA and they identified the problem stemmed from a leaking radiator and water pump. They took me back to show me the problem while the Tacoma was on the lift and evidently.... the company who had installed the radiator in 2012 had put in an under-sized radiator and failed to bolt it down properly resulting in vibration which not only caused the radiator to leak but also damaged the water pump. Kevin at MTA went through the trouble of telephoning the owner of the company who had installed the radiator to see if he would supply another radiator (proper sized) at no cost to us so that MTA would only have to charge us for the labor. Unfortunately the owner of the company wasn't as honest, caring or helpful as Kevin at MTA and he refused to help us out. MTA corrected both problems (at a reasonable price) and the very next day I had my truck back. We have had other experiences with MTA which have all made my wife and I loyal MTA customers. Not only are the staff at Vancouver MTA (particulary Kevin) very competent and knowledgeable mechanics, they are very courteous to female and senior customers, trustworthy, efficient, friendly, UNDERSTANDING and CARING and THEIR PRICES ARE REASONABLE ! Worst experience at a mechanic, ever. I walked in saying that all I needed was an oil change for my car. The gentleman (Todd, I believe) began speaking to me as if I were an idiot. He jumped to the conclusion that I must need oil because I had hit something, causing a crack/leak. Naturally, I couldn't be an early 20 something that just needed an oil change and was far from home. While I look and sound like I'm in my young twenties, Todd didn't know he was belittling a doctoral candidate with the diction to pummel his choice words into mush. They completed my routine oil change for double what the dealership charges me, told me it had to do with the difference in bulk oil costs. I have gotten the same procedure done at several other small establishments such as MTA for less than the dealership, even with the cost of high grade oil these days. I was given a lecture about how it wasn't a good decision to purchase such a vehicle (hybrid) because while they save me in gas the routine maintenance can be a large expense. I was then told that I was getting off easy because the bill was free of labor costs. I review the bill, see that they have in fact included labor in my total. After questioning it, being told that I must be reading it wrong, specifically pointing to the line that says labor costs with a total, and coming to a conclusion before Todd, I realized I was in the presence of an incoherent dunce. I give up, you're incorrigible Todd and MTA. Thank god they called me today to ask how my $95 oil change was going with my car. They also encouraged me to leave reviews on all 4 of their review sites for a chance to win a $250 prepaid visa! No problem MTA, hope I win! Bottom line: if you look young, don't go here. I wasn't that impressed by MTA Automotive in Vancouver Mall area. I took my car in for a check engine light and whatever repairs would go along with fixing the light. First, I was very glad I printed out a couple coupons on their website before I showed up because just checking the engine light would've cost me $100. Which with the coupon I got for free with the repairs, but I have had the light checked before completely free of charge. Plus I think I can buy an cheap Automotive Diagnostic Scanner for about that price. I called them to set up an appointment and after I dropped off my car it took them about 4 hours just to call me to tell me what the issues were and an estimate. The day was basically over at that point. They tried to sell me on a battery cleaning for $35. You can easily do that yourself with a little baking soda, water and an old tooth brush for 10 minutes. I also asked them if they didn't mind checking my drivers side blinker because even after replacing the bulb a month ago it stopped working. They said they would take a look at it but labor would be $100 an hour. NO THANK YOU! I'll save my money and find somebody to do it cheap. I ended up needing my temperature gauge replaced and they sold me on a tune up. They gave me an estimate of $530 and I ended up paying $630. I was not impressed by their prices. They seemed very knowledgeable and gave me good recommendations on other repairs I should do on my car but if I do, I might go somewhere a little cheaper. They gave me a courtesy call a week later to check up on the car which was nice, but I just can shell out that kind of money. I'm just glad I finally got my car repaired. read more

These guys were an awesome help! They truly care about their people. My girlfriends Nissan Sentra that I was driving at the time started spewing steam, coolant, and oil as I was just getting off the freeway. So my girlfriend and I pulled in to their parking lot cause it was the closest. I opened my hood to take a look see, but honestly didn't know where to even start looking. Not 5 minutes later, Chris, who was the manager that day, came out to take a look, and found the cracked hose. Being a "do it myself" kind of guy, I asked questions about what hose exactly do I need, where's the nearest store, etc. And they didn't hold anything back from trying to help me. Walking to the auto parts store and back, I started to work on my car. The whole time I was trying to get these new hoses on, Chris and a few other mechanics like Marcus would occasionally come out to check up on me to see if I needed anything and to offer help and advise. This was awesome to see! Though I was never really a customer, I had an amazing experience with these guys! As I said before, they care about their people. And they're obviously not in it for the money, cause they didn't get a dime out of me, despite all the help they gave. However, I did end up picking up some pizza for them the next day! 5 attributes that I would use to describe Master Tech Automotive; High quality of work, affordable, time oriented trust worthy, and most of all helpful. To make a long story short, they deserve your business. I say most of all helpful because of the to amazing customer service I received from James at the front desk regarding my Intoxalock device. There were multiple hang ups on the Intoxalock end with getting the device uninstalled and James was there willing to help with practical and logical advice throughout the whole process of being on the phone with them. Not only that but he went the extra mile to actually call Intoxalock and help clear matters up himself! He saved me what could have been potentially hours of time in phone calls. To James' manager(s) he deserves a promotion, a raise, a bonus. Whatever the best you can offer him is, he deserves. Because that's what he gives at his job and to the customers, the best he can offer. Last but not least. To James, A huge thank you! How Kevin became an owner is beyond me, I am one of few people that can say with confidence, stay away from this place, in the past when Gene owned this shop and Kevin was a general manager, one of my close friends worked there, he is a good person, lets just say that the current owner would steal from the business, and expect my friend to do the business books when he opened in the morning and wanted him to disregard the missing money like it didnt happen. So when my friend caught on to it and asked Kevin about it, he fired my friend, piece of crap, it has bothered my friend for years, and I want Kevin to know that there is no such thing as a "free ride" Just look at the last divorce you went thru , and use that as an example! read more

I have driven past the Master Tech in Gresham several times, and have always enjoyed reading their creative, funny reader board. I thought that they might be a great company to do business with, and, after several very disappointing experiences at the dealership's shop, had decided next time I needed work done on my car I would give them a try. They did not disappoint! I stopped in at the Vancouver shop (live in Gresham, work in Vancouver) to inquire about getting my burnt out headlight fixed. The guys stopped what they were doing and got me right in. What a nice surprise and change from the dealership that I have been going to, where a simple headlight repair would have been an ordeal. I can't begin to express how amazing this place is. After calling several automotive shops and being turned away I was increasingly frustrated and out of time. I was to return home to Colorado in three days and my alternator went out. They got me in right away. Fixed my vehicle on the same day and all at a fair price that was comparable to all the other quotes received. I could not believe it. Thank you so much for all of your help. I recently brought my Jeep to MTA to have several repairs done. MTA was honest and respectful. I do many repairs myself so I was impressed with the way MTA worked with me to solve problems rather than running me around in circles. James from MTA did an amazing job communicating with me about progress, problems, and repairs before anything was done. MTA uses the best OE replacement parts which is probably what allows them to have such great warranties on their work. Overall I had a positive experience and would definitely go back for repairs I'm not confident enough to do myself. read more

We were towing a trailer thru Vancouver Washington, when my truck went into limp mode, low power, very frightening, my daughter found Master Tech Automative based on their high reviews and we contacted Kevin Krecklow's shop at 9400 NE Vancouver Mall Dr. We let him know that were on our way to a family reunion. The check engine light came on in my Dodge Pickup. I checked the code and found an issue with my O2 sensor. I took it into Master Tech and asked them to check it out. They called me later and told me exactly the same thing and quoted me a price for repairs. They charged me exactly what they quoted. They also checked my truck and told me other issues that I needed to look at but they did not pressure me into doing the extra work. I was a little reluctant to go into an auto body shop by myself. Many claim they take advantage of females who are unfamiliar with vehicles. These guys were a great help, one day I had car problems took it into these guys to see what was wrong they had me keep the car over night to see what the problem was. They were nice enough to give me a ride home to my house so I wasn't stranded. Next morning they found out what was wrong and my car was fixed later that day. I recently stopped into Master Tech because my car was overheating. Turns out the water pump was leaking. I was on time crunch. They estimated my repairs and I decided to price shop. I called other local shops and they were in the same price range. The staff was very courteous to include making me a cup of coffee. so I decided to go for it. Two hours later I was back on the road. Very professional and great customer service. Had quite a few issues with my clutch and transmission, but they called each time they found something, informing me and asking permission to do the work. Gave this shop a call on Thursday they were able to get me in the next day for a oil change and tire rotation. The service was great. They also sent me a link with pictures and recommendations for my vehicle through a link that went straight to my phone.. My permanent address is in OK but I make frequent trips to Vancouver. Originally I used MTA for an oil change prior to driving home but now we use them because they do great work, are honest, fast and dependable. Often they have "squeezed" me in when I needed something rush. I highly recommend them. read more
