The two reviews below do not accurately reflect any experience I've ever had at this mechanic. My husband and I have been taking our cars here since we moved here to Vancouver in 2011. We were recommended to D and E by a long time Vancouver resident and friend who has had a lot of work done on her car. We've taken our cars to D and E 4 times and never had a bad experience. We have found the mechanics to be honest about what exactly needs to be done to our cars and we never have felt pressured or scared into having any work done that we did not feel needed to be done. The mechanics are upfront and honest with their estimates and what they feel is the best for the car. The prices are fair and most importantly they have great customer service. I also want to say that I appreciate a mechanic that will take a look at my car last minute when it was having problems and take the time to run a thorough diagnostic to figure out what was wrong with the car free of charge. My car was stolen and the interior was completely torn up. Steering column was destroyed all the compartment covers torn off, power windows broken, rear window shot out by a 22 pistol, tail lights wiring torn apart. It was so filthy my insurance company totaled the car saying it smelled so bad it wasn't salvageable. I bought back the salvaged car and had it towed to D&E. They did an amazing job putting my car back together repairing any engine damage as well as fixing and replacing any interior and window damage. I was thrilled to get my car back. In addition I had them do a tuneup and replace the breaks as it was overdue. They were extremely fair priced and I am very satisfied. I will be keeping them as my mechanics in the future I totally recommend them. read more

i was selling a car and a potential buyer asked if he could take it to his mechanic who he has been dealing with for over 20 years. (Red flag) I said yes. I actually drove the car to the shop and waited while they did the pre-purchase inspection. I have 45 years in machine and automobile mechanic experience. Long story short: I was told one thing about the car and the buyer was told another . He was given a long list of non-existant issues. When I asked to see a copy of the report, I was told there was no report written up, only verbal conversation. Since when does an inspection by a shop not get written up -- unless something shady is going on. The guy did not buy the car. He could have said he changed his mind instead of having "his" shop make a phony report and not even document it in writing. I would be very wary of D & E. In fact, one of the guys doing the inspection had to ask his partner what a hose was for. (??) And they never did ask me any questions or even look at the stabilized bar bushing that was rattling a bit. (I told them to check it, but they just kept looking to find SOMETHING they could claim for their friend to try and lower the price. Scam read more

Rarely do I leave a negative review on Yelp. This is an exception. If there were an option for no stars, it would be here. Here is what happened: Got phone quote for front and rear engine seals appx two weeks ago. Liked the bid, scheduled appointment for the work at the same time of the call back then - for today. Came by yesterday (day prior to the appointment) - got solid quote and let them see it in person to be sure and they even said, "Bring it in first thing in the morning." (They realized it was an all day job). Arranged for ride home after early morning drop off. Get there this morning early, drop off keys & truck. They say, " We might need it overnight, but will keep it inside, safe." Get home & they call and say "You need to come and pick it up - we're too busy today, we didn't book the appointment." And... "the next appointment is two weeks away". I speculate that they bit off more than they were capable of - or they realized the revenue of the job vs the time required was not worth it to them? I call this "cherry picking" in the service industry environment we're in today - when certain businesses are very busy. How can you cancel an appointment after we've talked on phone; been there in person the day before; physically took the keys; said "see you tomorrow"; received the vehicle- after we drive away?! I collected my patience, called back to get their official explanation diplomatically. Ultimately, he said, "It happens." LOL... O.K. Then. He said someone forgot to record the appointment two weeks ago, and apparently didn't catch the clue(s) that we brought it in beforehand to make sure their quote was accurate. Obviously something weird and unprofessional is going on here. Better ventilation maybe? My recommendation- don't waste your time. If they can't honor a quote or appointment- then how does that reflect what the actual work will turn out like? They don't value my time. Thankful now, based on their behavior- that they did NOT work on our truck. read more

I had been using D&E for a while for oil changes as I received some coupons. This included our Ford truck, Ford Mustang, and new Hyundai hybrid. They were always up front and professional, and they would occasionally recommend something else that could use work - but nothing like "Minute Lube" who try to upsell services everytime you walk in. It was always reasonable, and they would show me (seal leaking, for example). Coupons ran out, so I didn't go back for a while. Our truck was in an accident, so I took it to a local competitor (you will have to find their negative review elsewhere). Seriously - took it back four times for incredibly stupid work. Unreal. I was driving a couple nights ago, and the truck died, couldn't get it to restart. I had towing service, so I was going to have it towed to "the competitor", and my wife mentioned "You liked D&E, why don't you take it there". So I changed the tow destination and dropped it off. Early next morning they called and let me know it was the fuel pump, and gave a reasonable estimate. I told them to go ahead. They called me a couple hours later and told me that they found the wiring connector was loose to the pump. The previous mechanic (sic) had not plugged it in all the way until it latched! They plugged it in, brought the truck back down, and that was it. Charged me fairly for shop time (which I am getting reimbursed from the competitor). Here was an opportunity to make some money. They could have just replaced the pump and not said anything. They are honest guys, and I am never going anywhere else, even with my new car that is under warranty. I see the reviews that state "do not go to D&E" - I am sorry if you had such a bad experience, but I have to disagree. I am encouraging my friends and family to start going there. 5 stars. Do not go to D&E Auto Care, especially if you're a woman! These guys are typical rip-off mechanics. I took my car in for a minor stalling problem and they told me I need a new car. (What????) They gave me a very long list of everything that is "wrong" with my car, including broken motor mounts and worn belts (I took the car to another shop later in the week - motor mounts and belts checked out as just fine, as did the rest of the repair items.) The estimate D&E gave me was close to $7000! Also, there was a woman in there picking up her car and she was confused because they told her she needed new belts, too - but her belts had just been replaced. The next day, I discovered that D&E gave a co-worker of mine (also a woman) the exact same list of repairs that needed to be done on my car! Wow. What a coincidence. I finally discovered (on my own, after some research) what was causing my car to stall - a faulty Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve. I spent $15 on a new valve and $4.50 on a can of throttle body cleaner. I fixed it myself and my car runs like a dream. If I fell for the scare tactics used by D&E, I would be flat broke with a car that still doesn't run properly. read more

I have been bringing my car to these guys since I first got it in 2011 and I honestly will not bring my car anywhere else. Their customer service and expertise is unmatched. They always tell me what is wrong, how they can fix it and any advice to avoid future issues. I even had to have my whole engine block replaced and they got me in the day it broke and had it fixed in just a couple days! Highly recommend coming here! I went to the Ford dealership to have my window fixed, it just stopped working and got stuck 3/4 of the way up. They wanted to charge me $150 just to diagnose the problem and they couldn't even look at it until a week later. D & E got me in the same day and had my window fixed before the end of the day. I love d&e with a passion. They are the best mechanics in town hands-down. As a female, they've never taken advantage of me, and don't treat me like an idiot. I've had to stop by and call multiple times without any appointments, and they're willing to take a quick look and help me out right there on the spot. They are very friendly and I recommend this business to anyone and everyone I know. While they are extremely busy, try to book ahead of time. This place is worth it. They are very honest about what needs to be fixed and what doesn't need a fix at the moment. I recommend them to everyone I know, and they've made them permanent mechanics. read more

My family has been doing business with D&E for over 10 years now. Our 3 cars, and my in-laws 2 cars have been maintained/repaired by D&E exclusively. They have never charged for providing an assessment, or estimate of repairs on any of our cars. The staff has always been courteous, responsive, and most of all HONEST regarding needed repairs. With the exception of a warranty repair performed at a dealer, we will not take our cars anywhere else for service. Please give them a try next time you need service. The guys at D&E really know what their doing. I took my car in thinking I needed new front struts and possibly new front right break rotor. The car was shuddering when I put on the breaks and making clanking sounds when going over even small bumps. I was expecting the bill to be around $750. After looking at the car they called me and said that the rotor could be "turned" didn't need to be replaced and that the struts were fine but that a bracket needed to be replaced on the struts. Needless to say the bill was much much less than quoted and I am very happy. I will always in the future bring my car to these guys! They are awesome! My vehicle was intermittently not starting. I was told it might be a fuel pump so I took it to Aamco who tested my fuel pump and said it was just fine. The problem continued so a few days late I took my car to D&E Auto who said I need a new fuel pump. I decided to trust the mechanic despite just being told by Aamco that my fuel pump was good. I paid $600 for the fuel pump and took my car home. But then the problem continued. I called D&E who told me "Well it must be something else then". I was very upset. My neighbor asked me if it was my battery and I said I didn't know. My neighbor came over to test my battery but discovered that one of the cables was so loose on the battery terminal that it came off with just his hand. So he tighted the cable and the problem was fixed. Why on earth didn't the mechanic at D&E check my battery? And why did he sell me a fuel pump I clearly did not need. When I called the mechanic back, he yelled "Well take me to court" and then hung up on me. I don't know how anyone can have a good experience with this dishonest place. read more

I am a woman and go here. I don't agree with the other review saying they prey on the female gender at all. They. Have always been honest and all their diagnostics are free. They have never done any unsolicited work and are very good at keeping me updated. Their prices are fair and although they check for other issues and tell me about them, I have never gotten a "list" and have never felt pressure to do other work. I have been a loyal customer and they have even offered to check over the used car I had just bought after my older one died for free to make sure I was getting a good deal. read more

DO NO GO TO D&E, I was having problems with my car and thought it was my water pump. I would normally do this repair myself but to busy, so I ask around to some friends(who mostly do their own work also) and they said they think it is the water pump. Talked to my Brother-in-law who lives on other side of the state and OWNS his own shop and he said...IT IS YOUR WATER PUMP. I talked with my nephew who is a mechanic up north a couple hundred miles and he said it is your water pump. I call D&E to get quote, sounds reasonable...take car in. They come back and say over the phone to me pump checked out fine, but needs a whole list of other things done. Some I know should be done but not urgent or safety issue(i will do myself) others were not even related to the problem I was describing to them, so why they were poking around there I don't know. So, I come back wearing a hat with my brother-in-law's shop on it and I wear while working on my car so it looks well used. Guy in the office now does not want to talk to me and goes into the shop and the person in the office gives me my keys but says there is a charge for the work they did. Well they didn't do any work fixing my car but looking for things to fix. I pay them just so the experience will never be forgotten by me and leave. I spend the next weekend fixing my water pump, which takes longer for me since I don't have a shop with lifts and is dry and air tools etc. I tried to put NO stars but Yelp would not let me, so here is one star. read more

After having my car fail emissions testing I called around to find out how much it would be to have my cam shaft sensor replaced. I actually had one place tell me that for the pair it would be $700+. Even I knew there was only one. A friend referred me to D & E. They fixed it for $130. They also called me before doing anything to the car to confirm that's what was wrong. THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD AT AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP. My vehicle never did run right despite it costing me $1600.00, and them having it for a month...They replaced my head gasket, and only then, they discovered it had a cracked head. The manager there acted like I should have told him about the cracked head...How would I know that? They get paid for diagnosing and repair. I finally got to drive it home but it ran so poorly that I brought it back in so they could fix it. They said that it was running perfectly. I ended up using it as my 2nd vehicle, as the truck was shaking apart, door panels, stuff under the hood, etc. It also vibrated the clutch linkage components to the point where the shifting fork snapped off in the tranny. Another $750.00 for repairs. It sat for a long time until I finally afford to get it fixed! I recently took it to a reputable repair shop and it finally runs like my old truck! They quoted me $300.00 to fix it...it cost 304! The timing was off by 180 degrees, just like I expected! Kuzma auto repair in Hazel Dell is great! That guy listened to my concerns, and then repaired my rig......not like that blowhard who runs the counter at d & e who hit me with a wall of words and had no interest in knowing my concerns. THOSE GUYS SUCK!! I wouldn't allow them to work on my cars for free!!! read more

D&E automotive if it doesnt say D&E you paid to much. I have had numerous problems with their repair work on numerous occasions. I try to give the benefit of doubt we are human. I was told by my parents you get what you pay for repair at your own risk and be prepared to bring it back multiple times to get it fixed right or at least you hope. read more

My husband and I have been going to D&E since 2009. Not only have we taken our personal cars to them, but we've also taken our fleet of business vehicles. It is disconcerting that with one reckless click of a button, a person can start to ruin a businesses reputation. I have made it my mission to review every business I deal with to let people know that GREAT experiences I've had, and D&E is one of those businesses. We started taking our fleet of cars to them in 2009. They were very helpful and accommodating with getting the car in and out as quickly as possible, and they were very reasonably priced. I didn't realize how good we had it until we moved our business and started taking our cars to a mechanic in the same business complex as us. Within the two years we were using the new mechanic (who I don't want to name because they are right next door and I don't want a "irate" neighbor), our cars were running worse than ever, and their repairs never held. Many thousands of dollars and 2 years later, we stopped using them and took our cars back to D&E. D&E is a respectable, trustworthy auto-repair facility. The people who work there are very helpful, TO EVERYONE, NOT JUST MEN. I know when I take our cars in, they diagnosis will be spot on. They stand behind their work. My husband and I are so happy to have a mechanic we can trust, that doesn't charge outrageous prices, and tells it like it is. Since we've gone back to D&E our maintenance expenses for our fleet has gone down by 50% because they are reasonably priced, and aren't telling us we need repairs that we don't really need!
