As I was calling various moving companies in the greater Portland area, Chris at Master Movers answered the phone. None of this "leave a message and we'll get back to you" nonsense. I explained that we needed to move an older relative from a one bedroom apartment to another one about 15 miles away. They don't send an estimator out for one bedroom apartment moves, but I conveyed to Chris that even though this was a one bedroom, there was enough stuff crammed into the place that it should be classified as two bedroom plus a lot of dishes, glasses etc...from the kitchen. He modified the estimate and it was in the general ballpark of what I was expecting. A week prior to the move, Sarah sent me quite a bit of paperwork via email to me. It covered the legalese of Moving and various laws. It also included what they would not pack or put onto the truck. Chris told me about the one hour (total each day) of billed travel time, and then the minimum labor hours that would be billed. This was also stated in the paperwork Sarah emailed. I knew we would easily exceed the minimum labor hours each day, so that wasn't a major issue. All the costs were spelled out in detail in the various documents Sarah sent to me. The packers - Steve and Shaun - arrived within the window that Chris and Sarah told me. They worked their ****'s off packing up the place. They ran three hours over on labor, but that was due to the excessive amount of dishes, and glass/ceramic tchotkes (even I was horrified at the number of breakable items that kept showing up in places other than the kitchen). They packed all the stuff and were very good natured about it. It was a pleasure to work with these two gentlemen. They were very careful with all the packing, and wrapped the furniture in plastic wrap. Steve and Shaun returned the next day (as scheduled) on time and once again worked their ****'s off loading the truck and then off loading at the new apartment. They set up the bed frame and box spring/mattress, reassembled all the furniture they took apart (entertainment center, some bookcases), placed the furniture where my relative wanted it, even after she changed her mind a few times. They did all this work very professionally and with a great sense of humor. Yes, the final bill was higher than the original "enhanced" estimated costs, but even I didn't expect to find that much breakable stuff in unexpected areas. All in all, a great experience and working with Steve and Shaun over the two days made a stressful activity less nerve-wracking. read more

We were soooooo stressed out about this move. We'd been in our home almost 20 years, and difficult economic situations forced us to sell our house and downsize dramatically. We felt overwhelmed by the task of packing our belongings and moving to some place new. But after talking to Sarah the first time we called the office, we began to feel a bit of the weight lift from us. A very sweet young man named Chris later contacted us and helped us decide exactly what we needed to make our move go as smooth as possible. Then the company field rep, Brent Barnes, came to our home. Brent's humorous attitude helped us forget just how stressed we were! And the estimate he gave us proved at the end to be amazingly accurate. The day before our move, a crew came out and packed everything in our entire house. They brought boxes and all the necessary supplies, and in less than four hours our whole house was ready to load onto a truck. Sonny was amazing, and he made sure his crew took great care in their packing and labeled everything correctly. The next morning, about half an hour before the movers were scheduled to arrive and load our things onto their trucks, I received a phone call from Ryan. He introduced himself and asked to see if there was anything we needed before he and his crew came out to start our move. This was perfect, because we had discovered the night before that we had some pictures stashed away that needed special boxes to ship safely. I described what we had, Ryan assured me he would bring what was needed, and just a short time later Ryan, Sonny, and two other guys showed up...several minutes early. We could tell right away these fellas knew what they were doing, and they just put us completely at ease. They were fast and professional, took great care, and lifted some things that I just couldn't believe could be carried by hand...and they made it look easy!! THANK YOU, Master Movers!! You turned one of our most stressful days into an almost relaxing adventure. I refuse to ever move again until they move me by casket to a graveyard, but I WILL tell everyone I know to call you guys when they need to move. It's worth it!!! And when I do, I'll tell them to ask for Ryan and Sonny, because those boys know how to get the job done well! read more

Alex and Donovan were on time, neat and tidy, and had positive friendly attitudes. They worked very hard, but still managed to be friendly and pleasant to be around. No complaints that things were too heavy or wouldn't fit through a door, like I have heard from other movers at other companies. They were very careful with all our stuff, and left without a ding or scratch on anything. They were speedy fast! Had everything out of the old place and into the new place in great time. They asked permission to take their break and lunch, and were ready to start again immediately on time. I would give them both an A. Impressive young men. Very hard workers! Karen in the front office was great! She was helpful in figuring out what size truck I would need and how many movers. She was even available by phone the night before ( way after office hours were over by the way!) when I started to panic that I hadn't gotten myself enough boxes to fit everything, and she sent more with the movers on moving day. I would definitely recommend Master Movers to my friends and family. During the actual move, people in my apartment complex noticed how hard working the guys were, and will likely be calling Master Movers to help out for their future moves. Thank you, especially Alex and Donovan, for making our move a breeze! read more

First time using a moving company, and worth every penny! We moved out of an overstuffed apartment into a newly purchased house with 2 stories and a basement, these guys really busted you know what to get it done . They hauled solid oak furniture up narrow 1920's stairs, they boogied boxes of books and Knick knacks galore up and down stairs. They moved an 8 x10 craft room stacked to the ceiling with boxed supplies and didn't drop a thing. They even managed the solid oak China hutch with glass doors without a scratch. They were more careful of my newly refinished floor than I was! The lead guy on our job was super funny, and everyone associated was very professional and courteous. The office even sent out an extra guy for a really nominal charge to make it all go faster when they figured out how much stuff we had. lol this was no ordinary 2 bed apartment move. They got it all on the truck, and barely took any breaks until these ladies had everything where we wanted it. Hope they are still in business in 10 years when we move again. We will never rent a truck and call our kids again. These guys got our backs. read more

Really happy with Master Movers. I reached out to them online on a Saturday. Promptly Monday morning, Brent followed up via email and a phone call Tuesday for more details. After figuring out a date, Sarah contacted me the day before moving to finalize details. On the day of moving, Tommy and Greg arrived promptly. I did a short walkthrough with Tommy as to what needs to be moved (which included breaking down and assembling two beds). After the walkthrough, Tommy and Greg started moving stuff right away. Additionally, Master Movers provided wardrobe boxes, which meant we did not have to remove anything from its hangers. Tommy and Greg continued to move everything through the morning. After driving to our new home, they unloaded promptly and moved everything to the labeled (or directed rooms). They navigated both homes (new home with stairs) well and there was no damage to furniture or the homes. For larger furniture, they wrapped it up to ensure that everything stays clean and in shape. I'd be happy to use them again. read more

I relocate every couple years and have had a number of bad movers but it was different with master movers they were kind, helpful, quick, professional and gentle with my belongings i would recommend them to my friends and family i had some item missing the last time i moved with them and called to complain when i did they were very sorry that happened and would do everything possible to make it right. turns out i had miss labeled one of my boxes and found the missing items a short time later in a box i had put in the garage i called them immediately to let them know i had found the items and they were very excited for me and said they were in the process of writing me a check to replace the items but there was no need for that so maybe the other review that i read on here was the same case Ive used master movers 4 times now and couldn't expect any less there an amazing company with great helpful office staff as well as movers happy holidays to you guys and thank you again i couldn't ask for a better company. read more

We used Master Movers a agent for Stevens Van Lines last month when we relocated to Vegas and overall we are happy. The estimator was very informative and we decided to go with the binded offer. They were the highest of the 3 in home estimates we got, but were the only ones who could service the dates we needed. We ended up paying for 10,000lbs when we only had 8000ish in order to have delivery on the day we needed it. I had to start a new job and had to be delivered in a 2 day window. I don't know what the actual weight was because the driver didn't weigh our shipment. They explained they didn't weigh binded estimates unless they think the estimator is way off. The did damage our headboard and lost the screws to our desk and I have filed a claim. Since I purchased the full insurance the driver said they should approve any claims. I will update this when the claim process is over. They did deliver on everything that they promised and we would use them again read more

I didnt know these guys had a bad review on yelp til I came here today to write a review, I found out about this company from one of the ladies in my zumba class wearing one of there t-shirts, I asked what she knew about the company and she stated that she was the owner. Very nice lady, very professional and easy to work with. When the movers showed up at my door on July 3rd the first thing they asked was "what can we do to make your move as pleasant as possible" we want to be a 10 on your move, so if something is out of character or you need us to load your car or place something 6 different times, we are at your service. They were fantastic !! The move went 6 and quarter hours, the charges were exactley what they said they would be(no hidden cost) and my house was left unscaved as well as my furniture. I would highly recommend this company to any one moving. read more

The plot thickens. On Friday, June 15, 2012, Brent sent me an email with "legal issue" in the subject. In the subject text he says, "Jaconda, You have 48 hours to remove my name from your yelp review. I have talked with our legal department and I will be suing you if my name is not removed. Brent" This man is a classic predator. He sent me, a customer, pictures of himself. Why? It is beyond unprofessional. He is a sexist racist predator like I said before. It is beyond unprofessional and for him to continue to contact me after I have told him not to proves that he is a control freak as most predators are. PLEASE -- do yourself a favor and do not do business with him, Master Movers or Stevens. I'll let you know how the lawsuit goes. I've also contacted the FBI. Jaconda read more

I would HIGHLY recommend Master Movers!! I had a last minute change in my move from Portland to California and was in a bind to move over the Christmas holiday with only 5 days notice - Master Movers took great care of me! At almost half the cost of other moving companies, the service exceeded expectations. Brett was VERY helpful and great to work with - he came out and did an on-site visit and estimate, and stayed in touch throughout the entire move process. All of my items were in original condition upon arrival and nothing was missing. During something as stressful as moving, you want to work with helpful, professional, and caring people - could not recommend Master Movers more highly and will definitely use them again in the future. Thank you! read more

I could not have asked for a better crew. They were friendly, professional and exceptional at what they do. My husband and i have moved several times in the lat 18 months (Marin to Taos to Telluride to Portland) and believe me, prior to this move we have had the worst movers--they broke/ripped/forgot to load stuff, and didn't inform us. Upon our arrival to Portland, the inside of the Penske truck looked like it had been on a roller coaster ride (nothing had been tied down properly). While crews in NM and CO took about 6 hours to load/unload our stuff, Tony and Drew were done in under 3 hours without damaging anything. Their attitude was cheerful throughout. Couldn't have asked for anything more! read more

Master Movers rocked! They showed up a little early, were ready to go, quick and professional. They did a miracle getting everything into the one load and safely unloaded into the new house. There wasn't even a scratch on anything! These people know their business! The guys were absolutely top notch, quick skilled and friendly. They know town well enough that they beat me to the new house by about 15 minutes because I got stuck in traffic behind an accident on the 205. They were already unloading when I pulled in. (My husband was here to let them in and direct) I'm happy to recommend them, and Master Movers, this was a job well done! Thank you, Barbara MacLachlan and Aaron Rasmussen read more

In the last 11 years my husband and I have used Master Movers 4 times to help us move and all 4 times it has been a wonderful experience. The movers have always been very friendly but very professional. All of our things were wrapped and or boxed properly there was no damage to any of our belongings and if there was ever any question that either my husband and I had and we called Master Movers to get help the office staff has always been patient and thorough and always make sure that any questions I've had have been answered. My personal experience with Master Movers has been great and I will always recommend them. read more

I have used Master Movers several times to move as far as from Portland to Georgia (and back) or in town. They have always been amazing to work with and make the moving experience light and easy. The different moves have all been different sizes, with my whole house and car being moved a few times, where other times it was a smaller amount of furniture that I would never, ever be able to replace. The moves have all gone perfect and I will continue to use them in the future... They really do treat you great and they treat your possessions great as well. read more

The office staff made sure I was fully informed about what would happen, and verified all aspects of the move. Steve, JJ, and Alex were prompt, friendly, incredibly efficient and hard-working. They moved us from a storage unit + small rental into our purchased house, and did it without damage to anything, staying focused, and making sure the load was at all times fully stabilized. To save my back, I had them deliver the boxes to the rooms where I would be unpacking them, and they did this efficiently, and cheerfully. What an outstanding crew! read more

I've used Master Movers for two separate moves. Each one went exceptionally well. One was a short distance (local) move, the other was a long-distance (across several states) move. Their estimate process is thorough and easy. Their pricing was much better than the other companies I spoke with. They showed up on time, were very polite and understanding of how stressful moving can be. My belongings and fragile keepsakes were packed safely and arrived at my new home intact with no damage! I recommend them to all my friends! I trust them explicitly! read more

I've hired Master Movers twice . Once to move most of my storage into my home, and a second time to move the rest of my storage to a smaller unit. Both times I was very pleased with their service. The two guys who moved my belongings were very helpful and respectful. They were willing to go the extra mile and do whatever it took to accomodate me. They were fast and efficient, and very careful with my belongings. I can't say enough good things about this company and their employees. If you need a mover, you won't go wrong hiring Master Movers. read more

I appreciate that they were quick to respond and get us setup with a move date. We had a few different places we were dropping off and picking up items to complete our move, and they were very helpful. The two men from Master Movers that helped us move were very respectful, careful, and kind. At first I was overwhelmed by how much we were charged, but after talking to their Claims department they agreed that we were charged too much and refunded the over payment. All in all they provide a great service with great customer service. read more
