    Plain Naan
    S F.

Fast lunch service. They offer a two dish with rice and naan for $16. Chicken keema was flavorful as was the daal of the day. Maybe a bit too salty and that's where the naan should have helped! The naan was a disappointment. It tasted like it was made with too much milk powder and bisquick. The patio in front had plenty of tables with umbrellas for an outdoor lunch.

We went out grocery shopping to neighbouring apna bazaar and saw a long line at this restaurant/ butcher shop. We thought of giving it a try for a quick meal pickup. We ordered it first and to-go, that way when we were done grocery shopping, the food would have been ready :) and it worked out pretty well! Small store/ restaurant with no indoor dining space. Friendly service. They do have tables set up outside incase u want to sit and grab a quick bite. They offer lots of quick meal combos and u can also order main dishes or kebabs as individual orders if u dont want the combo meals. In $32, we got: - goat curry - 3/5 - greasy, good quality meat, with bone but not a fan of their spice choices in this one. Towards the bland side so will try another dish next time. - lamb seekh kebab 3 pcs side order - 5/5- yummy, juicy, huge and filling. Spicy too :) paired perfectly with their breads - garlic naan 1 pc - 4.5/5 - yummy and fresh and spiced up too :) loved it! Definitely coming back for more!!

Great place to buy marinated chicken and marinated fish. Tried their cooked food. Not a great fan of it. Prices are competitive.

Freshly cut Katla and curry chicken

Master butcher is very conveniently located beside one of the most famous Indian grocery stores in the bay area, Apna Bazaar and fulfills all our cut meat requirements and meets all expectations. They have cooked food ready to go in store as well as online and have a very easy online ordering sytem. Ordering raw curry cut chicken (skin free) online is a breeze as opposed to standing in line in store and our order is always packed well. We usually order tandoori chicken and goat curry from here. We love their tandoori chicken and always request some extra charr on the chicken quarters and we get nothing short of excellent food. You can see Uncle ji making delicious tandoori chicken and naan in store and it always takes me back to when my family tandoored every weekend. We love bringing freshly frozen fish home from here. Rohu and Katla are native to bengal and they give absolutely fine quality cut fish bengali style for jhol (curry) and bhaja (fry). You select your fish from the freezer and they cut it for you the way you want it. We took 8 lbs Katla from them last week, marinated the pieces in small batches in turmeric and froze them. We just had to thaw each pack, apply a second marination of spices and fresh ginger-garlic and it was ready to fry and extremely juicy, tasty and fresh. Their fish isn't frozen for a very lengthy period of time and they do run out of it so we like to purchase it in bulk and enjoy. Their chicken mince is delicious. It's not just chicken breast minced in a processor but a very traditional mince with full flavor and texture. Our home made seekh kebabs are a a hit and we love getting mince from here and won't look elsewhere. Everyone here is friendly and they always welcome us smilingly. We visit Master butcher's twice every week and it has become a ritual, something I don't think we'll be giving up anytime soon.

This review is for the saag paneer and butter chicken, they were Delicious! I love saag paneer and butter chicken. I order it everywhere and it is very good here. Good flavor and just enough cubes of cheese & chicken. During my last two visits, they had four curries on the right side of the door as you enter, on the left hand side of the aisle just past the cashier. We were able to order the curry, pay, they filled the containers and gave them to us, very fast. But Yes, this place is called Master Butcher. They do have meat in their cases that you can buy, marinated and raw. You can also buy it cooked. When you order it, it's raw so you have to wait the time it takes to cook which is a while which I did on my last visit. It's good! I would call it in next time.

Ordered 2 dishes, chicken biryani and goat chops. Both tasted terrible. The more driest chops ever made! with no flavor just meaty. Biryani was colored puffed rice paired with the driest chicken ever! Save your appetite for the yummy Gol gappe sold just outside!

We have been getting fresh marinated chicken and ground chicken from here for a while now. We transitioned to buying ready made food about 6 months back and it's been amazing. We make a trip at least once in 2 weeks to pick up a few of their tandoori (grilled meat) platters. I will list our favorites here : 1. Chicken Kabab Platter - Super yum and the meat is fresh and juicy. I prefer the platter as it's a good full meal (I can't finish all the rice that goes with it) 2. Mutton Kabab Platter - Spicy, Juicy and delicious (see picture) 3. Family Platter - lasts my family of 3 - 2 great meals, I add a salad and sometimes a dal (lentil soup) to round it off 4. Chicken Burger and Fries - my son loves this - it's an indian spiced burger 5. The Lunch/Dinner Special - it comes with 2 curries, nan, rice and salad - this week for example I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Kheema Matar (minced goat meat cooked with peas) - which was incredibly delicious I am so glad I found this place and it hits a spot when I want some good, reasonably priced meat curries (and don't forget the fact that you can buy all your fresh meats and fish from here)

The tandoori leg tasted really good the first time I got it here, but was charred. I told myself that it happens sometimes and bought the legs again this weekend and they are also charred. I understand that tandoori legs do get charred, but not to an extent where I have to almost peel the outer layer completely to eat it. A little care to avoid too much char would make this a great item.

Highly recommend this for a truly Indian/Pakistani food experience - spicy and pocket friendly. I have loved their Chicken kheema naan best! Their chicken churga and tandoori chicken is great as well, in fact, is the best on the bay according to my husband. The wrap I found was okay, but the fries with them were to die for. I'm gonna do just fries next time. The ambience is like you've stepped into Mumbai/Delhi for a minute. Outside seating with Bollywood music and free chai from Apna Bazaar beside this restaurant. People are vibing at the Pani puri stall as well. You go for the whole experience. The team is really great too - they forgot a part of our dish but even before we realized, came out to apologize and pack us something great. I'm a regular at this point with them

Combo plate with two curries recommended enthusiastically by two other patrons: chicken curry and butter chicken.

It usually takes me two and a half hours but hey I get to see my friends and drop in on Dittmer's. I usually buy the smoked ham hocks because I am addicted to a Cuban black bean soup. I have tried smoked ham hocks from other sources, but the results were so bad that I threw out the soup. The only place I have found that has true smoked ham hocks is Dittmer's. I noticed the price of ham hocks has gone up. But many of the other prices have held steady. The store remains neatly organized and is spic and span. It's kind of what you would expect from a German shop. Carlo's black bean soup from All around the world cookbook by Sheila Lukins. Totally worth a 2.5 hour drive. 2 pounds of black beans Quarter cup olive oil 3 cups, diced onions Eight cloves of garlic, bruised and peeled. One smoked ham hock 6 quarts water 2 tablespoons +1 teaspoons ground cumin 1 tablespoon dried oregano Three bay leaves. 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper Pinch of cayenne 6 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley 6 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves. 1 teaspoon salt Two medium red bell peppers, diced reserve a quarter of a cup for the garnish Quarter cup dry sherry 1 tablespoon pack of brown sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice. One cup of crème fraîche or sour cream. Soak the beans overnight, drain and rinse. Heat the oil over low heat and sweat the onions and garlic, about 10 minutes. Add the beans with the ham and the water to a large pot. Stir in the 2 tablespoons cumin, the oregano, bay leaves, black pepper, cayenne, and 2 tablespoons each of the parsley in cilantro. Bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered until the beans are very tender and the liquid is reduced by about 3/4. This will take about one and a half to two hours. Transfer the bone to a plate and let it cool slightly. shred the meat and return it to the pot. Stir in the remaining 4 tablespoons parsley, 2 tablespoons cilantro, salt, and all except 1/4 of a cup of the bell peppers, the remaining 1 tablespoon cumin, the sherry, brown sugar and, lime juice. Simmer another 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot. Garnish with a dollop of crème fraîche and a sprinkling of the diced peppers and chopped cilantro. Eight large servings or 12 small portions.

This one was disappointing enough to feel worth documenting. My boyfriend and I ended up here after attempting to go to Treehouse nearby (which had an hour wait--unsurprising given the concept). This restaurant was a short walk away, which actually worked out well given how congested the area was, and we walked in optimistic. The space itself is very large, but nearly empty for a weekday evening. It felt family-owned and casual, which I usually love--many of my favorite restaurants fall into that category. Unfortunately, the experience didn't reflect that warmth. We were given a different menu than other diners, which immediately felt odd. Service wasn't overtly rude, but it was noticeably unwelcoming--almost a "why are you here?" tone rather than hospitality. We ordered hummus and feta, both of which were surprisingly expensive for the portion and quality. We were told bread would arrive automatically with the hummus, but it didn't--despite asking multiple times. When it finally arrived, it was poorly cooked and no longer served any purpose, as we were already well into the meal. Despite the restaurant being far from busy, our mains took about 30 minutes. One dish--a kebab--was fine but very forgettable for a $30+ price point. My dish, dumplings in a yogurt-based sauce, was honestly inedible. I left it untouched and mentioned that it didn't taste good. The response was simply, "Oh, so you don't want a box?" No attempt to fix the issue or even acknowledge it. What sealed it for me was the overall condition of the place. Dirty cutlery, a generally rundown interior, and a lack of attention to cleanliness made it uncomfortable to eat there. I'm not picky about ambiance when the food and service deliver--but here, nothing quite worked together. The whole experience felt very turn-and-burn, as if the restaurant relies on proximity to a popular area rather than repeat customers. I left feeling like unless you're part of a specific in-crowd, this isn't a place that's trying very hard to win you over. Personally, I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't recommend it--especially given the pricing and the many better options nearby.
