Stumbled upon this butcher shop type of market while looking for a store selling ribeye and I'm so blown away by the quality! Now I'm no steak connoisseur, but I've had my fair share of premium, high quality steaks and after tonight's dinner, I can say this was one of the best at-home ribeyes I've ever had! I took home two 1" Angus Prime Ribeyes with AMAZING marbling. They also had American Wagyu ribeye and spicy marinated crab that I'll have to try next time. The employee who helped me threw in a free small deli container of kimchi! He was kind and helpful, despite some of the reviews saying they experienced poor service. The kimchi was delicious and spicy. I also decided to pickup some pickled squid, which is definitely an acquired taste. It's a flavor bomb of spicy, salty, and briny. I stopped by on a Friday at 5pm and I was the only customer in the store and it seemed like they had most of their selections in stock. I'm glad I was able to MEAT this store! Jokes aside, this was a nice and clean meat market. Usually when I buy my meats, I would go to my local grocery market but I decided to venture out and spend a little more on a higher quality cut of meat. Although I was expecting meat, there were a lot of other Korean dishes and sides which I enjoyed. At the time I went, they had a sale on their spicy marinated raw crab which I obviously had to get. I ended up getting two cuts of the American Wagyu NY Strip and they were THICC. There was a 20% sale on one of the strips but there was no additional discount on the second strip which I thought was interesting. I also ended up getting a bowl of short rib soup which came frozen. If you spend more than $30, you can get a free side so I decided on the fish cake. I made one of the cuts for lunch and it had a good amount of fattiness and tasted amazing. Their spicy crab was definitely more on the spicer side but it tasted fresher compared to the ones I had. Overall, this was a decent meat market filled with Korean dishes so I'll be frequenting here whenever I need higher quality meats. read more

After reading ALL the raving reviews about the great selection, top-notch quality, and amazing service at Angus Meat Market, a Korean butcher shop, I decided to skip going to the market and come here instead. I guess I went on an very off day because it was a disappointing experience. I called several days in advance and asked if a pre-order was needed since it was the holidays. I was told, "no" and to just come in. I got there early in the morning just in case. Arrived to no line - yay! BUT... The butcher case was nearly empty. Like "End of Day" empty. One side was completely empty and the other side had several pieces of boneless short ribs. I asked about fresh meat for shabu and was told it's only for BBQ. I was open to any recs but the guy wasn't receptive, nor helpful. Since I made the drive there, I decided to just grab two containers of frozen wagyu for shabu; around $63 for two containers (similar marbling/quality to Mitsuwa and Marukai but at higher prices). Before being rung up, I asked if they had marinated raw crab available (shelf was empty). He said, they don't have time to make any. Ok, no problem. I paid and said, "Thank you". I know voices can be muffled with masks on so I made sure to raise my voice when thanking him. *Crickets* I much rather support a small business over a market chain but not with the slim pickings and cold service. read more

For example, I just talked the proprietor into preparing some steak tartare meat for me. He initially didn't want to do it! When I asked why he was reluctant, he said that the previous owner was sued after a customer got sick eating steak tartare. I told him I intended to prepare it as a Valentine's treat immediately upon returning home. He sold me the meat. My family loved it. So the store's user interface is odd, and offputting at times. The premises are clean, but the look is old-school-dingy. If you are looking for a butcher out of the Barbie movie, this ain't it! But the quality of the meat is outstanding. I've been here four times in total at this point; once to get a food order, another time to get beef cuts, another to get wagyu, and most recently for pork belly. Overall the employees are OK. Sometimes they act like they could care less about selling and get annoyed when you asked them to repeat something (as I usually do because there is always background noise here). Other times they are at least friendly. Meh. I think all their beef I've tried so far is of pretty good quality. A bit expensive but for the quality I'd say it's worth it. But FYI their Japanese wagyu is almost always sold out, so do make sure you call ahead to order or check if it's in stock. On the other hand, based on my most recent purchase, I would not recommend their berkshire pork belly packs. I opened the pack and was super excited, only to see that 1/4~1/3 is pure fat. Sure you can save it and use it for other things... but i doubt that's what people expect when buying the pack. read more

A coworker told me about this place and I was alerted that they have home made soups that can be delivered from a service. So, I received the cabbage and short rib soup, another soup that I loved but don't remember what it is called as the label was in Korean and I can't read it =(. I also ordered the seol leong tang - which is the ox bone soup (so good). The nice thing is you can keep these home made soups in the freezer and defrost them the day you want to have it. The containers serve 2-3 people easily and that is doling out a very generous size to each person and there is more than enough left for another meal. They have a well stocked freezer section which I usually purchase from as well. I came in the other day to buy a 5-6 pound brisket since I've recently started to experiment with smoking meat. They didn't have any briskets in the front display but cut and grabbed one from the back for me. The brisket they gave me turned out amazing! Extremely high quality meat. Not for the faint of heart who want Costco pricing for their meats. But the cuts vary from prime to aged to wagyu. I've always gotten the pre sliced beef (there's two different cuts I've tried can't remember the names) and both are deliciously marbled. Also have had the pork belly and cheek which were also great. Very accommodating with special orders as well and they have Kobe beef bones or on some days they have their own 3 day boiled soup. Always friendly and willing to make suggestions. It's located in the corner of a small strip mall, not visible from the street. It is a small "butcher place" and once they are out of their meat selection you are out of luck of getting the meat cut you prefer. We heard so many good things about this place even here in Danville, that we made the drive out to get some good Korean BBQ as we don't even have good Korean restaurants here in the Tri Valley. Once we entered the shop, you notice right away how clean everything is. You even can peek into the back where they pack and prepare the meat and it is very, very clean! Service is excellent and the person who helped us speaks English and Korean fluently! They even offer your ice to keep your meat cold which is a nice gesture. We got the Kobe beef brisket and pork belly (which are our favorite). I bought more than just for one dinner and spend $$$. But I think it's totally worth it. I cheated on my butcher today. I went to Angus as i was curious to see what this new place in a rundown strip mall where an Indian grocer used to be. It's been completely remodeled and has a super contemporary look. Beautiful meat counter, some frozen items with dumplings and thinly sliced meats for shabu. The attraction however is the beef and pork up front. Lots of deliciously marbled cuts in which some are of Snake River Farms who supply high end restos like the French Laundry. Got what they called Finger Meat ( the area between the ribs) and some short ribs to boot. They supplied some veggies and a dipping sauce to boot. It's on the pricey side but after making dinner it was well worth it. It's Korean focused but delicious meat is delicious meat so get some and cook away! read more
