Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager made me feel like I was trying to take advantage of my membership credit. I have been known to wait until my muscle aches are unbearable before booking a massage, so I decided to sign up for the monthly massage subscription. I used to find massages were "nice" but didn't really do much for the aches and pains, but maybe if I did them more regularly they would "work." Then, I had massages by Adrienne and Natalie. After one massage, I felt a HUGE difference. I almost couldn't relax during my first massages because I could only think about how I needed to get their phone numbers so I could always find them in case they left (I didn't get their numbers but they assured me they will be working there for a while). I haven't had experiences with any of the other therapists, but if you like a firm massage, I can definitely recommend Adrienne and Natalie. Remember that they're putting wear and tear on their own bodies to make yours feel better, so tip well (and don't skimp out on the tip if you sign up for the lower price subscription!) I was in dire need of a massage so I booked one this weekend. The room ambience wasn't my favorite and the ambience sounds weren't relaxing. Lin was nice and ask for my problem areas. I think there was too much focus on those areas when we started. Her medium-to-firm pressure was ok at first but I was already becoming sore and had redirected her to other areas. I requested to adjust the pressure a few times but couldn't reach a happy-medium. Overall, the session lacked technique; some moves were not repeated on the other side. Not sure if I'd go back anytime soon. read more

I had a chemical peel done today, I have had many chemical peels and various services at this location for about 10 plus years. I was a bit disappointed today with my chemical peel. Yes, a chemical peel is not as long as a regular facial, but 30 minutes. This is not what I am accustomed to. No, hand massage or shoulder massage at all, which is normally provided when a chemical peel is done. Also, the esthetician did not ask if I wanted the table warmer on or off. Also, I normally take my upper clothing off, but Jen the esthetician said no not necessary. I was afraid products were going to get onto my shirt. I also found it odd that she didn't even give me privacy to put my shoes on and give me a moment to gather my purse. She stayed in the doorway just waiting. I asked for a deep tissue massage and the therapist really dug her elbow into my upper back area, I voiced to her the pressure was too deep, my body kept tensing up instead of relaxing because she kept digging into my back. my upper back is starting to feel sore. the therapist literally could not read that my body kept tensing up every time she dug into me with her elbow. read more

Writing a negative review feels a little rough, but I also believe in the value of feedback - so here we go. I was lucky enough to have gift cards, because had I paid out of pocket, my buyer's remorse would probably interfere with my sleep. I am a fairly active individual, participating in multiple sports throughout the week, and am recovering from multiple injuries (which I noted on my intake form). I've never received a professional massage before, but was gifted several Massage Envy gift cards, and figured it couldn't hurt in regards to some of the acute pain I've been experiencing. I appreciated that I was able to request specific areas of focus., and that the service from the front desk was helpful and professional. However, that felt utterly pointless as Christina paid almost zero attention to those areas, and then recommended I book a follow-up appointment for areas that had nothing to do with my injuries or areas of acute pain. The business model feels like a money grab, capitalizing on people who need relaxation, rather than any measure of functional physical therapy. Which, of course, is entirely valid. But if the practitioners neither look at their notes, nor are knowledgeable enough to assess and address painfully obvious skeleto-muscular imbalances, well, disappointment seems inevitable. This could be due to the fact that my masseuse Christina simply lacked the capacity to ascertain my condition; regardless, I can only address my personal experience. After my unfortunate last visit here I decided to give this spot a second chance, and this time around my experience was certainly a much better one mainly because I had such an amazing therapist MARIA!! And note that this was my first time with this therapist. Thank you Maria for helping me walkout feeling so much better after a mere hour session. I called on a whim as I had super knots all over my back and the staff on the phone was able to accommodate me within 2 hours of calling. On arrival there was no one waiting in the lobby so I made sure that I was absolutely checked in this time unlike last time when I was told I was but I wasn't. My therapist came to get me within a few minutes of my appointment time and she made sure to ask questions clarifying my issues that I had. Throughout the session she kept checking in and evaluating my areas of concerns and she truly was AMAZING!! She was so knowledgeable of not just areas of tension but also related areas that I had not even thought about. Maria applied the right amount of pressure throughout the whole session and didn't skimp out at all on time like some people do. She used a large number of massage therapeutics and it all was so well received, and she would keep explaining what she was about to do and if you were comfortable with it or not. I truly appreciated her dedication to helping her clients heal!! It's amazing what one great therapist can do for the body and mind and I'm glad I've found one here. I'll definitely recommend choosing the right therapist, but still do absolutely recommend that if you're here during a busy day be sure to make your presence known if you're not called on time for your session. read more

I like the location and ease of parking, especially in Pasadena. There's a free parking structure and as other reviewers have mentioned, there is a Trader Joe's right across from here. (Huge plus!) The reception staff was okay. It was my first time at this location and I had to ask where the quiet room was to wait. The quiet room was bare minimum. Comfortable seating but there is a water dispenser for hot or cold water. No tea or flavored spa water like other locations. I came here to write about the masseuse I had, LinPin. I went to two masseuses before her with stiffness in my neck. LinPin was the only one to identify all the knots in my neck and did an amazing job working them out. My neck stiffness and pain that I've had for a month is finally gone! She also did amazing checking in the pressure she was using throughout. It was a medium leaning towards more firm pressure - which was ideal for me. She also checked in with the temperature as she was using the hot stones. I highly recommend her as a masseuse! read more

Front desk assistant Alandra was so dismissive and gave us the manger's name and email - no phone number. I have since written two emails to manager Gehan that have been ignored. The fact that they allow any of their masseuses to use latex gloves while massaging is mind blowing. The fact that they don't disclose this ahead of time is unprofessional and inexcusable. The lack of customer service appears to be how this location operates based on the poor reviews on here citing similar poor failures re: front desk staff and management. I've been going to this location for several years. Of course I've seen the prices go up and up, but no change or improvements to the facility. It looks old, dingy and not like a spa. Bare minimum with no spa environment. Why do I keep going? The massage therapists are very good. They ask questions and they listen. I use their CBD massage cream for massages. They also can add stretching and cupping. They have a variety of facial treatments too. It needs a facility scrub and facelift. read more

I went to return them, because the price really was excessive and I didn't want anyone spending that kind of money on me. Unfortunately, they were purchased on December 29, and I attempted to return them on January 29, 1 day after the company's 30-day return policy. The robotic application of the rules, regardless what their clients in Pasadena have been through in the last month, is exactly the reason why we canceled our membership after 10 years. There are so many massage spa small businesses to choose from. We only go to Massage Envy when all other options are booked. I came to this location almost a year ago, barely could walk due to some neurological issues on the right side of my body causing excruciating pain n paralysis. I explained all this issues to Mr. Chris and he listen and then came up with a 90 minute therapeutic massage regimen and I would come in for every 2 weeks. I am recovering from LongCovid and wanted to visit this location for treatment. I was shocked to discover that I am not able to ask if my therapist is vaccinated or not. I would be spending an extended time in a closed room with someone who will not say whether or not they are vaccinated. This is supposedly an organization which supports health and well-being, but they have taken this stance on the safety of their customers? NO THANK YOU. Other doctors and wellness providers have chosen transparency about this which is so helpful. It is fine if someone chooses not to get the vaccine, themselves, but to treat individuals in a closed room and not disclose this, is NOT acceptable in a a "do no harm" supposedly medical/health related setting. read more

I was gifted a massage at this location, and got to call and book whenever I wanted to use it. They seem to fill up in advance, especially if you try to call on a weekend, so I'd recommend planning ahead. I was checked in and led to a waiting area. It was already decorated for Christmas, and everything was serene and relaxing. I had to complete some forms/acknowledgements on a tablet, where I also got to specify what kind of massage I wanted and what areas I wanted focus on. There were even pictures of the human body/muscular regions so that I could pick. I pretty much wanted everything but my head and neck. I didn't have to wait long before I was led to the massage room and given 5 minutes to disrobe in privacy and lie down. I asked for "medium" pressure, and the massage therapist asked me if there were any areas I wanted her to focus on. "Everywhere," I replied, assuming she had read my tablet responses. I really don't think she did, as she spend a long time on my head/scalp, ignored my gluteal region altogether, and didn't spend a lot of time on my shoulders, which I had hoped for. It was a good massage but just okay, not the best I'd ever had. I had read in advance about the high-pressure sales tactics after the massage, and I had to rush home because I was meeting someone there afterward. I mentioned this to the front desk staff when I arrived. However, after the massage, I was led to another room and I knew the sales pitch was coming. She was very nice and didn't keep me long, and I only had to say no once. However, I really don't like their practice of doing this immediately after a massage, instead of letting clients enjoy their relaxation and afterglow without being pressured to buy anything. It's really a turnoff and I guess it works because they have so many members, but I would rather leave a massage on a more positive note. I do appreciate the gift and the massage was nice! I just wish they did a few things differently..... don't ask for detailed massage preferences if you aren't going to read them, and maybe wait a day or two to call with the sales pitch. read more

I came in with my husband today to get 60 min massages. ( $60 each). I am also 20 weeks pregnant and the usual place that we go to get massages does not have prenatal massages, just the regular ones where you lay on your stomach. I agree with the previous comments about the girls in the front. They were very nice and polite. The space is clean and environment is relaxing. There is ample parking in the del mar + lake structure. The massage therapist really focused on the areas I mentioned were pain/stress areas on the intake form, which I appreciated. But I see where the dissatisfaction comes in with regards to timing. (Which is why my rating is 4 instead of 5 stars.) My husband and I got there about 20 mins early since it was our first time. We finished our paperwork before 5:50pm and our appointment was at 6pm. I figured if we get there early, we would be able to get a full 60 min, but they do subtract 10 mins for "dressing". So real massage time is 50 mins. They did not mention the membership like other yelp members mentioned, though, which is good. read more

The saleswoman told me it was easy to cancel but never emphasized that it's 12 commitment and if you want to get out of it, it's like pulling teeth. Yes I accept that I shouldn't have been so trusting but she did rush me through all the information to get my signature. And when I called to cancel because I am not financially able to pay any longer due to lay offs in my family and quarantine, all I'm allowed to do is a 6 month freeze? Same on y'all. I'll have to deal with this nonsense in 6 months when nothing changed and there's even less money in the bank to pay for this nonsense. If you're able to afford the one year contract then go for it but just be vigilant about reading the contract and don't let a pushy sales person take advantage of you. read more

My fiancé gave me a gift card to go and pamper myself. Excited as I was, I made an appointment and showed up to get a chemical peel for the first time. The entire session was 10-15 minutes. It seemed short to me but it was my first and I didn't know. So, I told my fiancé and he mentioned that his moms Peel is typically longer - I should call and ask. I called the day after with a simple question: how long is the duration of chemical peel facial? The answer was 30-60 min. So I told my fiancé. He got upset and called them stating how come my facial was less than 15 min. And all of a sudden the answer changed: the facial is UP to 60 min. He asked to speak with a manager who wasn't available and never called us back. Later in the day I received a survey from massage envy via email. I gave them the same feedback and asked them to call me via phone. YET I have not heard from them. Don't waste your money here! I paid $110 dollars for a 15 min facial. I've never had any complaints with this establishment until going to this location. Most people in the general population will have some form of insecurities. We don't come get a massage for anything other than relaxation. In case that wasn't already obvious? However, when I came to this location I could not relax my whole massage. Honestly from the moment I met my massage therapist I didn't really get a good vibe from her but I ignored my initial passing judgment. During the massage this lady (if I remember correctly her name was June or Jun) proceeds to tell me that there's something wrong with my shoulder and that she's never seen that. Ever. First off, how dare she comment on someone else's body when she isn't dating the person or has any personal relation to that individual. At all. Second, I've never had ANY masseuse EVER comment on my body or point out any issue like that. (For context I've probably received over 20+ massages in my life from various professional establishments.) Its simply not professional to make comments like that. Thirdly, who cares? I hadn't had a massage in almost a whole year due to the pandemic. My body was tense hence why I went to get a massage. I didn't go get a massage to have my body critiqued by some random lady who has no business working with the public. (Unfortunately the front desk people are not very welcoming or friendly so there aren't many redeeming qualities at this location...) The purpose of your establishment should be to help people let go & relax. Not to instill further insecurities into people (I'll definitely go get my shoulder checked out now due to the worry now that there's something wrong.) I will not be returning to this location. Ever. I also learned from this experience that you can have a masseuse stop completely if you're no longer comfortable during the massage. The worst massage experience. Period. I went in and Chris asked me about my problem areas and what kind of massage I would like to receive. I explained to him and his responses were so promising. I told him that my left shoulder and my right lat are extremely tight and painful. He started to massage my upper back and that was it! He kept pressing two knots on my rhomboid minor muscles for the entire session. He didn't even touch my painful lat muscles and I received very brief massages on my delts, arms and feet. at the end I mentioned I have not received massage on the muscles I expected and he said we didn't have enough time. Next time book a 90 min session. I have been to other massage therapists and in 60 minutes I have received full massage on all the muscles ( except my pecks and abs) and thoroughly.
