As a restaurant, the Mason Jar is pretty good. It's above-average, not amazing. I got their pancakes for brunch once, and they were awesome. They were light, fluffy, and tasted delicious. I wish they had given me a little more syrup, but that's a negligible concern. The most recent time I went, I got the pub pretzel, and my friend got the hamburger with fries. My pub pretzel was good, and I'd say better than most of the other pretzels I've gotten at similar restaurants. My friend said that their burger was alright, and that the fries were good, but came in a very small portion. Overall, if I were just judging based on the restaurant, I'd probably give the Mason Jar a 4/5. However... the Mason Jar also serves as the watch party headquarters of the South Carolina Gamecocks, as well as something of a sports bar. When it comes to this aspect of the Mason Jar, I'm not particularly impressed. Every time I've come on gamedays, the place is so packed that you can hardly move a few feet to either side of you, and you're always worried that your drink is going to be spilled, or that somebody else's is going to be spilled on you. Speaking of drinks, they have a pretty large selection of beers, but none of them are particularly good. I love sours and IPAs, and they have a few options for each, but I don't really love any of them. Finally, it takes forever to make your way to the bar, get the bartender's attention, wait in line, and then get your drink. If I were ranking the Mason Jar as a sports bar, I'd probably give it a 2/5. Overall, I'd meet in the middle and give the Mason Jar a 3/5. It's a fine-enough restaurant, but the sports bar aspect of it is unimpressive, and I kind of wish the South Carolina watch party was somewhere else. read more

When you're looking for a non-bougie coffee spot to work at in Murray Hill, you have no choice but to go to a bar to set up shop. And that's what we did. But Mason Jar isn't just a bar, it's a BBQ joint. And if the team didn't just have lunch, we probably would have devoured some ribs. The spot was spacious, and was pretty empty because it was a 2pm on a Friday. I see this spot getting rowdy for a happy hour, or during a big game. The last time I had BBQ was in Texas. It will be tough to beat what I had there. But the second I walked into Mason Jar it smelled like I was back in Texas. I still smell as I type this. I'm sad I was so full. Anyways, the guy behind the bar mad sure we had coffees and for me a ginger ale as we worked away for an hour or so together. He was welcoming and made sure we felt at home even though we didn't order food. All of this guarantees a return visit from me. read more

We came here as a group of nine on a Thursday night and were seated right away, which was such a great start to the evening. I ordered the Braised Short Rib with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms, and it did not disappoint. The short rib was incredibly tender, falling apart with ease and practically melting in your mouth. The garlic mashed potatoes were soft, fluffy, and absolutely to die for, with just the right amount of garlic flavor coming through. The sautéed mushrooms added that perfect umami richness and paired beautifully with the dish. Personally, I would have preferred for the mushrooms to be served on the side rather than on top of the short rib, but that's just my style. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd want from a lively sports bar, energetic yet still comfortable. Service was above average, and our food came out impressively fast, within about 15 minutes of ordering. Overall, Mason Jar NYC delivers solid comfort food in a fun, upbeat setting. read more

This is a spot my son picked and it was a pleasant surprise. Great place to watch games, plenty of TVs, and good food. I went with the honey barbecue wings, deviled eggs, and a garden salad. My son went with the classic cheeseburger, and the wife went with wings and brussels sprouts, and the pulled pork egg rolls. They also feature a full bar. Pretty meh I am sorry to say. We made a reservation for 4 people to watch some football games on a Saturday evening (college bowl & pro). The wait staff all seem very young and inexperienced, and not attentive. Beer was flat. The nachos came out cold and are missing something; the pulled pork on them had no flavor. This bar is very spacious with seating area in the back and some in the front. There is a nice size bar area where you can sit at too. They have a great beer selection and their food looks awesome. I did not get any but when I did see others eating it looked good. There are many tvs here so it is a great spot to come catch a game. This was a decent sports bar to visit in the city. They had plenty of TVs showing all the New York teams, which made it a fun spot to catch a game. The service was excellent, the waiter frequently checked in to see if we needed napkins, water refills, or new plates. Kudos to the staff! For my entrée, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. I was pleasantly surprised,it was much better than I expected. The buns were nicely toasted, and the sandwich was packed with pork that wasn't dry, offering a good balance of fatty and lean pieces. My only complaint: the sandwich came without BBQ sauce or any sauce at all, so it was a bit dry. I ended up using the ketchup from the fries to help. Speaking of fries, they were crispy,not the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. Overall, solid service and a tasty sandwich, just wish there was a bit more sauce on the pork. read more

I've gone to Mason Jar a handful of times over the years, and it's a consistent option for good southern style food. The wings have been a personal favorite, smoky with plenty of flavor every time. And they have a great drink menu, with plenty of good beers on tap. The space itself feels like an upscale saloon, with lots of bar seating and nice wooden tables toward the front and in the back of the restaurant. Service has always been solid, with good bartenders and waitstaff every time I've visited. If you've got a hankering for some beer and/or BBQ it's a good option in the area! read more

I think they have a 2nd floor, of which I didn't venture up to. This is a South Carolina Gamecocks bar, so do expect a ton of alumni here during college sports season. Also seems popular during weekday happy hours. Not surprising as this bar is in Murray Hill, an area full of recent college grads. The service was 5/10. We were sitting there for 25 minutes before we were given water. The waitress had a little attitude. And the waiter that brought us our menus wasn't any better. I know stuff happens working in a restaurant,, but damn why you had to throw the menus at me? The food was 7/10. I almost never write a review but I haven't had such a terrible experience in a long time! Once we were seated there was a terrible smell that made our party gag, we asked to be moved and there was no smell but my plate was dirty not once but twice! To their credit they were pleasant and accommodating with this but it was a bad start. The pulled pork egg rolls were really good but that was the only thing I enjoyed, I wasn't a fan of the deviled eggs or the buffalo chicken dip but I'll chalk those up to personal preference (thought the dip had way too much blue cheese and thought the eggs were bland) I had the brisket platter but I thought it was a bit overcooked and dry. Mac and cheese was really good. The main problem was the absolutely horrific food poisoning I got right after I left the restaurant, I barely walked 4 blocks before I needed to find a bathroom or a deserted corner. I haven't been that badly food poisoned since China. I absolutely destroyed the Whole Foods bathroom before I made it home. I went here for a date night and we ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup and the brisket platter. Overall, the food was very tasty, maybe the brisket a little dry. But for the price point, I don't think I would go here again. It was $35 for a brisket platter that I would have maybe comfortably paid $20-25 for. The service was great and the atmosphere was good too--they had a person singing live music which was lovely, albeit a little loud so it's maybe hard to have a conversation. It does seem like a fun place for maybe drinks and appetizers, but I just can't recommend the main dishes for the price point they are. read more

This place is pretty cool. Tons of screens and a decent menu. The strange thing is orders of wings are on different parts of the menu (not next to each other) and it's for a good reason. They are nothing like each other. Price wise and taste. Go for the rub first and thank me later. The other wings are standard bar wings while they are fine why pass up the signature dish of this place? Call me what you will but never been a fan of being able to see staff eat or break while on shift. It's just not the experience I like the most but I understand this place may have an awesome staff and simply shitty management. They also changed the swag. We were running late so had to choose a closer restaurant for dinner. Mason Jar had American barbecue and here we are. What a surprise for us!! Back of the restaurant is where you'll find tables and booths with the waitresses. The menu is simple but covers all. I ordered the taco salad with brisket and both my son and husband had brisket sandwiches husband with fries son with tomato soup. Now in all my years and I have lived in many places but no where have I lived where they made brisket this delicious!!!! I don't eat it with any BBQ sauce but the men do. The meat was cooked to absolute perfection!!!!!!! Soft and tender yet moist and easy to cut. Fatty within being overly so. After dinner I went to the manager to make him aware of what kind of food he had. STUPENDOUS!!!!! I said if he ever decided to sell online I would be purchasing weekly. The restaurant was beginning to fill up a little as we left. NEW YORK wake up and head to the Mason Jar for the Best Brisket ever anywhere. The staff were all pleasant and friendly. My school made a reservation for us to eat out all together (roughly 20-30) people. Once we arrived at 7:30, we were seated promptly but the business was under staffed for such a large group. They only had two waiters and one bartender for a busy evening with a known reservation. Like normal, people trickled in on different time schedules and they wanted to get everyone's food out at the same time (btw not very practical for a large group). So by the time food came out it was around 9:30 pm. Two hours of waiting for food to arrive when some of the guests had ordered around 8 pm while others ordered around 9. Because they were understaffed customer service was subpar. We barely saw anyone for food, more drinks, or anything. It was better to just go to the bar if you needed anything to be honest. It wasn't a great plan for an event. Now to the food- I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese for my sides. Everything was very tasty and seasoned well. The gravy that comes with the mashed potatoes was golden, and I wish mine came with more of it then a spoonful of it. I also ordered the MJ Lemonade without mint, and it was a refreshing drink for the evening. This place is also a well-known Gamecock Club where all of the alumni and students come to meet up whenever people are in town. From start to finish, he made the entire experience seamless, enjoyable, and stress-free. He met with me multiple times in person to walk through the space, discuss my ideas, and make sure every detail was just right. Have been here for Taco Tuesday twice and it's been a good spot both times. Good Taco Tuesday deal, $4 tacos and $5 margaritas. I like the margaritas even though they are a little weak and definitely on the sweeter side. You can order mix and match which tacos you get and how many. Love the fish ones for sure. This review is just based on drinks. Food was not ordered. I met up with my boyfriend and some of his friends at Mason Jar for drinks. I ordered an old fashioned. The drink was ok, but I have had better old fashioneds elsewhere. Nothing stood out with the drink. It did come with two of those amazing cherries, though. The bartender was friendly. The bathrooms were clean. I liked the ambiance. It was down to earth and charming, in a rustic way. I can tell this is a spot you drink first order later. The ribs were reheated and the side were at best room temp. I ate 3 pieces of the ribs a few bites of the sides and stopped . I went here a couple weekends ago after waking up, incredibly hungover from the night before (long story ). So needless to say, I NEEDED some grease, fat, carbs to soak up the liquor that was bathing my brain. I looked up some brunch spots on Google and Instagram and came across Mason Jar. For me, it was the pulled pork egg rolls that sold me almost instantly! I also saw that they had pulled pork Benedict! Super exciting things happening here. I called in and placed my order and the woman who took it was super kind. I go to pick up my order, and the restaurant was interesting. I almost felt like I was in the south...in a bad way, like, I felt like a black man in the wrong neighborhood. Not that this is their intention in any way, it's just what I felt. Weird because it's smack dab in midtown Manhattan. Anyway, I pay and pick up my order. The pulled pork egg rolls were incredible. Not as crispy as I' hoped, but that pulled pork was seasoned and flavored very well! The bbq sauce was divine! Nice and sweet and tangy, and loaded with what I'm pretty sure were the seeds of cucumbers. They added a nice texture to the sauce. It was done right! It's funny because I also ordered the pulled pork eggs Benny, and the pulled pork that was served with it, didn't have as much flavor as the pulled pork in the egg rolls. Perhaps it was different. Went for dinner on a Thursday night with a friend. Up and down experience. The host wasn't around for around 5 minutes and then sat people who got in after us. Not cool but whatever. The decor was fantastic with TVs in view no matter where you sat. Food was.. okay. My buddy got the brisket and I got the ribs. The brisket was nothing special, and the ribs were very overcooked and tough to eat. (Ever bit into a bit of meat from a rib and wondered if it was bone? Yeah that tough) Saving grace was the wings and the sides. Never had a crispy smoked wing before which was surprising and delish. The Mac and cheese was stellar, and the burnt Brussels sprouts were fire. Rail drinks were weak and even the miller light (HH special) tasted a bit watered down. We decided to share a pretzel appetizer and share the pulled pork platter. The pretzel was absolutely delicious! The cheese sauce was plain, but good. The brown mustard was spicy. The pulled pork platter came with a choice of 2 sides, and there were plenty of choices including French fri, baked mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, roasted cauliflower and jalapeño corn bread, to name a few. The fries were hit and crisp; the mac & cheese creamy shells. The pork was excellent, even without the sauce. The barbecue sauce was very good. I went to Mason Jar on a Wednesday afterwork to meet up with my daughter for dinner at 6pm. I truly enjoyed my dining experience. The waitstaff here is very warm and friendly. John our server was amazing. He gave great recommendations that were on point. The drinks and food were both very good. I honestly have no complaints.
