My wife works down the block from Dog And Bone so this is my usually happy hour spot while I take our dog into the city to pick her up. The happy hour is from 3-7pm and the prices are actually great for the city. $7 for their draft and $8 for well drinks. AND the bar provides outdoor seating for you and your dog! The location is perfect to have a dog friendly bar because it's right along Baruch's entrance, so there's a long walking path. I get to enjoy a drink while my dog people watches and says hi to other dogs that pass by. I've had the same server every time I've been here and I have to say he's very accommodating. He always checked in on me to see if I needed a water refill or another drink. Something I appreciated since it looked like he was serving both indoor and outdoor seating. 10/10 service. I'd give this place 5 stars if their food was a little better. The price of the food is a little too high for what's being served in my opinion. I've been meaning to write this review for a while. Two winters ago a friend and I specifically tried to find a place where we could bring my perfect dog inside with us, as it was subzero temps. A google review for this place said that this was dog-friendly, I mean look at the name! Of course it was! Just kidding! No dogs allowed! We sat outside and at another place under heat lamps and almost froze out tit$ off! Now my questions is, why put the name dog in there, if you cannot bring dogs in there. Why Dog and Bone? Now my next question is: can you bring bones in there? What kind of bones? If I present you the most perfectly behaved bone, that would just sit at my feet, wandering off only every twenty to their minutes or so, to emotionally comfort a stranger having a bad day, possible turning their life around, would you turn that bond away? Would you send that bone back out into the cold? I'm not saying people should roll up with a bunch of bones or anything, but I'm also not saying that. There was also a ton of egg, you either got a bite of egg or a bite with all 3. You could taste the cheese only slightly, I wouldn't be upset if there was more. Bacon was cooked well. Came in on a weeknight for happy hour which I believe started at 4 and definitely goes to 7. Happy hours that go to 7 are my favorite. This one included well drinks, select drafts, bottles, and wines for under $10. I got a bottled blue moon for $8, which I think was only a dollar or two cheaper than its non-happy hour price, but savings are savings. The menu had a good number of options. I went with the fish and chips. The fries and fish were great, but I wished my fish was a bit bigger. The bartenders were very friendly. I don't think there was table service as I noticed people at the tables coming up to the bar to order (I sat at the bar). Came here with my sister and her family. There were 4 children and 4 adults. The waiter was very patient with the children which was nice. We tee from the Sunday brunch menu. Everyone's food looked great. The kids got hot dogs with toppings on the side and two of us got hamburger that was gjnourmous. I got the breakfast poutine which was okay but not like back at home in Michigan. The brunch came with complementary mimosas. I am SO surprised by how DELICIOUS the food is?!?!?! I've been to some of the top restaurants in the city, but nothing has come close to the stacked chicken sandwich I got at Dog and Bone. And the brussel sprouts are elite!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the waiter was kind of a prick. I didn't get his name, but he's Hispanic and failed to crack a smile and demanded that we leave because he "wants to go home." Mind you, we were 2-3 hours away from closing time. COVID REVIEW (I added one whole star to my rating since Covid has been hard for restaurants to adapt! We were very hungry and needed to grab a late lunch. We had a choice between Dog and Bone and Fitzgeralds Pub next door. We picked Dog and Bone and we had a really poor experience. It came down to two things: 1) Speed of receiving food. Over 45 minutes from the time we ordered to our food arriving. It didn't help that we were hungry for a long time prior to arrival. Maybe we could've asked for their quickest dishes. We ordered some hamburgers and wings (not as an app, but a main dish). 2) Communication from staff. It's one thing to have to wait so long for pub food, but when the staff is avoiding your table and not communicating, its just that much worse. When we find ourselves on this stretch of 3rd Ave and looking to eat, we'll be going to Fitzgeralds Pub next time around! read more

When the fanciest member of the group cancelled, we decided to skip the place offering over priced avocado toast and watered down drinks. Instead, my buddy and I looked for a place with a heartier meal and a good drink. We stumbled upon this gem. We both ordered the Full English Breakfast and Angels Old Fashioned. To my surprise- the food was delicious!! Fresh and well seasoned. I should've complimented the chef (I could see her through a window). The drinks were strong and tasty. The price was fair and actually, might be a steal. The waitress was attentive and cheerful. She had a beautiful smile each time she walked over. The place was clean and not too loud. We plan on stopping by again and I've actually added it to my list of Brunch spots. Boy oh boy....what a scene. Me and my aussiedoodle puppy walked into the restaurant...certainly expecting to be placed outside, but he allowed us in. There were about 3-4 other diners. The waiter was very sweet, recommending premier items from the menu....but as others started to enter, Levi (my 30 pound dog) does a friendly jump onto these people. Some people enjoy it but we are actively discouraging the behavior. After my drink is sat down, I notice all eyes on me (creepy shit). Another guy (not the waiter), says "That's not a service dog." Ummmmm "Ok, I never said he was, he's a baby." Apparently in the hubub of me coming in, the waiter had asked if Levi was a service dog and I answered "yes" not really hearing the question. Either way, this was an discomforting, hurtful, and oddly enough, creepy way to put all eyes on us to leave. My husband and I frequent here often (not anymore of course), they'll need a better system in what they allow, how they allow it, and leaving you rest assured your dog isn't gonna get called out like that. Interesting bar/restaurant with outdoor seating and not too far from the park. Saturday early afternoon, decided to stop for brunch considering the reasonable prices. To go along with the entrees, you also get a free drink to boot. Settled on the Breakfast Poutine ($14) and the Bloody Mary (included). Drink comes out first - a chili rimmed glass with chunky tomato juice, hot sauce, and some booze. Not too strong and good enough to sip on while waiting for the food. Entree shows up next and was surprised to see the home fries to the side. The poutine itself has plenty of gravy, but instead of curds it had cheddar infused bratwurst, and instead of crispy fries it had baked potato wedges. Really liked the sausage, yet the home fries should have been in the poutine rather than baked potato (also needed more cheese). Egg on top did help add some flavor to all that starch. Service is quick and I like the brunch deal. Next time would stick to the sausages/hot dogs. read more

I only went there once and while the food and drinks were great the service was horrible. I had a bad experience with the bartender (and as a black woman, if felt very targeted because he only got nasty with me when my friends left to go grab a table outside) and I told the waiter that I didn't want to talk to him and asked for the bill. Someone I was with went inside to talk to the bartender, which i didn't want but that is not the establishments fault.What I don't like is that the bartender proceeded to come out and, the first time, he didn't apologize for his behavior. He quite literally said "I'm sorry if you felt that way.." and implied that I was mad because he didn't make my drink immediately, which I was mad because he was very rude to me. He also went back to the person who talked to him (the only white person in our group) and proceeded to say he didn't think we carried ourselves like our age and he didn't like the way we approached him, which we never actually spoke to him since he only spoke to that person and took our orders when we got there. I will say that finally the second time he came out he apologized but it felt ingenuine and I know the person in my group prompted him to apologize. I want you to hold in mind that this was in public, so it felt very humiliating and honestly weird. I have prior bartending experience and this overall was just horrible customer service, they did nothing to make me feel comfortable after or to address where they went wrong in an appropriate manner. If I didn't feel comfortable and when I asked the waiter on staff to solely work with me, it shouldn't have escalated to a full on "conversation" outside the establishment that wasn't even necessary. I didn't get the luxury to approach him when I felt ready or comfortable. I will not be going back. UPDATE: I was just informed from a friend who frequents that I (and my friends) was banned from this bar because of THIS REVIEW. Which is ironic because I wasn't planning to go back BUT I even went to talk to said bartender after to clear the situation. This just shows what they are really about. read more

Four of us stopped here for dinner I ordered the chicken dinner and someone else ordered steak both dishes came with veggies that tasted spoiled?! which I didn't know that was even a thing. my chicken strips were dry, hard and bland. Plus I was expecting bone in chicken. So I asked the server to just replace my meal soup instead since everyone else's meal didn't look appealing. My friend ordered fries to replace her veggies. After leaving Gem Saloon hungry and wanting for a drink, disappointed by their abysmal service and meager beer offerings, I encountered Dog & Bone, a new bar and restaurant on the corner of 3rd Ave and 25th Street. Handsomely dark and welcoming, I happily took a seat at the bar, greeted by friendly staff, and was, shortly later, drinking a Firestone Union Jack IPA. The craft drafts and bottled beer selection is no destination but has enough variety and choices to be decent. There are cocktails and wines. The initial food menu features a medley of sausages, served either on a potato roll or bun-less with pickled cabbage and mashed potatoes, and an appealing, eclectic set of appetizers/snacks and salads. I am inclined to favor sausages; theirs are good but not exceptionally so. The piri piri chicken meatballs were moist but the flavor lacked the nuance of spices and herbs that is its namesake, more reminiscent of straightforward Buffalo wing sauce. It's early on and the full menu (and breakfast) is still in the works, but Dog & Bone is a promising new bar/restaurant worth a visit, especially for those living or working in the neighborhood. read more
