Bumped into this place walking around looking for somewhere to eat. They had available seating so my friend and I went in and got seated right away. First thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled to me like urine in a subway at the place but my friend said it was a fishy smell. I don't like fish so maybe it just smelled like urine to me and someone just ordered something with fish that was horrible to me. The smell is honestly the only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 just cause it was a really bad smell for me. The service overall was good. We first were served by a guy then later towards the end of the meal im guessing a shift change happened and we got a girl. Both were nice and checked on us randomly. As for food all I got was deviled eggs and the mac and cheese. But both were delicious. Almost made me forget about the piss smell. I highly recommend their deviled eggs as a snack. And even though the mac and cheese is advertised as a starter, it's super filling. It's also nice to finally have a mac and cheese that is more cheesy than creamy. The cheese pull for it was great. Stepping into this welcoming spot, we were immediately enveloped by its warm, intimate atmosphere. The layout is designed with comfortable bar seating on one side and cozy tables on the other. We arrived around lunchtime and were seated without any wait. We started with their house pretzel, which arrived perfectly baked with a golden-brown crust. While delicious, it was just enough for two to share--I'd love to see a more generous portion. The butternut squash soup that followed was absolutely heavenly, though the kitchen's decision to split our single order into two bowls left us a bit puzzled. The Hound Burger was the star of the show, even though it came out slightly under my requested well-done temperature. Despite this small hiccup, each bite was a testament to their skill with beef. The patty was flavorful and juicy, complemented perfectly by the toppings. The fries deserved their own spotlight too: crispy, well-seasoned, and impossible to stop eating. We washed it all down with a couple of refreshing Austin East ciders. Here's the kicker though: $130 for two people feels like highway robbery. The food was good, but not "empty my wallet" good. The only real drawback was the service, which moved at a surprisingly leisurely pace given how quiet the restaurant was. Still, the quality of the food more than made up for the wait. Had brunch there recently. It was also my first time to try English breakfast. Who said British ppl only have fish and chips -- the full English breakfast was healthy and delicious!! At around $20 I got tons of different things: poached eggs,rashers (Irish bacon), sausage, roasted tomato, sauteed mushrooms, black&white pudding, potato cake, baked beans and soda bread. I also asked for more mushrooms; surprisingly they gave me more for free. Among all the things, I enjoyed the baked beans most. It paired very well with the soda bread, which was less fluffy than usual toast. Juts dip the bread and have it. Sour-sweet, full of flavor. The rashers were also good. It was thicker and contained less fat than usual bacon. I also like the potato cake. The balck&white pudding was interesting to me as it was salty and crispy. I asked my server about its ingredient, unfortunately she did not know about it. Besides, service was a bit slow, possibly because I was the first to dine there on that day. I sat outside for the brunch. The outside dining area of this restaurant was kinda cramped and not very comfortable to have food. I may dine inside next time. So in general this experience of English breakfast was great, but it would be perfect if the service and seating are better. read more

Great beer selection. The cheeseburgers sliders are bomb! Soooo delicious! Season well, nice meat quality, and cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese was surprisingly good too! Spinach/mushroom empanadas were very good but not a fan of the sauce they bring. I just felt the green chimichurri sauce didn't go so well. I didn't like their version of chimichurri either way too much onion. I think a garlic sauce would have gone better maybe even a spicy garlic sauce. Chicken fingers were breaded so well but lacking flavor needed some salt but the chicken dipped in the sweet chili sauce that comes with it helps a lot with flavor. The moment I push the door and go inside, I feel like I go into a different world. Outside is chill and relax. Inside is happy and lousy feeling. It's hard to describe what I see and how I feel. I went to Hudson Hound for their happy hour and was BLOWN AWAY!!! There was lots of seating both inside and outside as well as a restroom inside; both a rarity in new york. I chose to sit outside and was greeted almost immediately with with a large glass of water. My aperol spritz came out almost immediately and was divine!!! it tasted almost like juice and I was quite impressed with the portion. I also ordered the sliders which were unbelievably flavorful! Be sure to have a napkin nearby because these are wildly juicy and can make quite the mess but they are scrumptious. I also ordered the sangria which was a bit heavy on the cinnamon for my personal taste, but overall I really enjoyed it. My total before tax and tip was $28 which, considering the size and strength of the drinks, I thought was very reasonable. I was overall thoroughly impressed with this restaurant and highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and relatively cheap happy hour! read more

This West Village Irish inspired bar and restaurant is very cozy. With friendly service and comfort dishes that range from traditional Irish to modern American classics. We started with a charcuterie board and mezcal cocktails. The cocktail was a spicy rendition of a Last Word and the meats and cheeses were pleasing but nothing out of the ordinary. There were also pigs in a blanket and an impossible burger that a friend really enjoyed. I followed up my cocktail with a glass of red wine that was very delicious. The owner, who was around and was very friendly, suggested it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ended my experience with a dry Manhattan on the rocks and it was well worth the wait until the end. It paired nicely with the Sticky Toffee Pudding that was very decadent to say the least. Overall, I left Hudson Hound feeling full and satisfied. It is definitely a place where I would take friends to gather to talk and laugh. GREAT Irish breakfast here - it somehow managed to both stay true to casual greasy spoon roots while still dedicating some energy to making each portion taste distinct. The black pudding and white puddings, for example, were light-years apart in their use of spices. The potato cake was so crispy and silky inside that I'd like to replace all other croquettes and mashed potatoes with this one for the foreseeable future (I ate this meal before Thanksgiving, and definitely wished this cake could be my Thanksgiving mashed potatoes replacement). The bacon was hearty and fatty, and the sausages mild, almost bready. The less said about the beans the better, but I have never liked this style of beans. Haven't yelped in a while since before COVID, but with restaurants returning back to normal and with the vaccination rates going up, I've decided to get back to reviewing. I recently came here on Sunday for a few drinks and food with friends from Denver while they were in town. We sat near the fireplace. Food was awesome! I had the Hound Burger. I wasn't feeling a burger, but I was convinced to order it and I am glad that I did. The burger was more than filing. The drinks were awesome and were made very quick. Christian the bartender was very knowledgeable about whiskey drinks and beer, the cocktails he made were really good, in particular the dirty martini. He also had some funny stories about New York that he told my friends from out of town. The whole place, especially the bar area, was clean; I felt like the employees cared about keeping surfaces sanitary and not crowding your personal space. The atmosphere and the decor is classy. I loved the ceilings. You can tell whoever designed the inside has a knack for attention to detail. Definitely will come back! read more

Came here on Pride day since it was the first place we found without a long wait, but it definitely didn't disappoint. The downside was that they had a limited menu since brunch time had just ended, but we ordered the sliders and the chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were pretty average, not worth ordering. The sliders, however, were delicious. Cooked perfectly medium, they were juicy and tasted great. My only advice is to get the chipotle aioli on the side, because it complements the sliders well. We ordered some mixed drinks and green tea shots, but when we moved to the bar side after we were done eating, we realized the drinks at the bar were twice the size/strength. Definitely go to the bar to order drinks rather than the dining side. The bar was also pretty lit and had good music playing. If you can sit at the bar side, I definitely recommend this. read more

Drink list is extensive, with a variety of excellent beers, wines, and cocktails. We only had some appetizers for bits, but the sliders and fries are solid. There's a cozy cubbyhole immediately at the entrance -- complete with wood-burning fireplace. Watch your back, though, for the open flame. Only drawback is that it's such an attractive and well-located pub that it was absolutely mobbed immediately after work on Friday. Stopped here on a weeknight with a friend and were able to take advantage of the happy hour specials ($2 off drafts). They focus on New York breweries with $8-9 drafts (regular price). We sat in the dining room but were able to order a couple of appetizers from the bar 'bites' menu including pigs in the blanket and fried pickles. The pickles were hot and crispy and of the spear variety - typical beer batter like you'd have on their fish n chips. The pigs in the blanket however, were cold, and not overly appetizing. For dinner, I went with the chicken pot pie which was fine, nothing special. The sauce inside was runnier than I would have liked and lacked much substance. We had a wonderful waitress who worked in tandem with another woman, which made it a pleasant experience overall. Next time I visit, I'm hoping for better results with my meal though. read more

The shepherd's pie has a fluffy mashed potato top and meaty interior. Personally like the mashed potatoes to be more crisp, and I wished there was more cheese to compliment the hearty meat. Side salad it comes with is negligible. Soda bread is dense, and served with a big square of Irish butter. Goes very well with the stew inside the pie (butter is a bit too hard to spread). We strolled in here on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm. It was in between brunch and dinner service, but they have an extensive bar menu for snacks and drinks to choose from. The restaurant is really beautiful with rich fixtures that makes you feel like you're transported to England or Ireland in a beautiful pub. We sat at the bar and ordered an Oktoberfest and a Golden Ale and ordered the pub cheese with toasted bread, half Buffalo and half fry rib wings and fish and chips. The pub cheese is a must order. So creamy and delicious! The fish and chips were light, crispy and outstanding. While I prefer the Buffalo wings, the rub was a surprisingly good choice too. All around an awesome place to hang out on an afternoon or bring a group of friends to catch up and watch a sports game too. The hudson hound was our last second spot while heading to the Lincoln Tunnel from Brooklyn- along the bay we decided to park where parking was available beside the road and we walked two blocks up the street to the Hudson Hound. The breakfast restaurants were packed as we passed them to get to the hound, the hound had recently opened and was relatively empty- which was awesome for us, since we were in no mood to wait around. We were seated quickly at the outside tables. My party ordered French Toast, Goat Cheese and Spinach Omelette, and Eggs benedict with smoked salmon. My god was it delicious- my omlette was very fluffy and a perfect portion that left me feeling satisfied without being too full. The price was reasonable and the service was perfect. Excellent brunch special! Their brunch menu is what a brunch menu should be - lunch options and breakfast options. Oh and certain drinks are thrown into the flat rate. I asked for a Bloody Mary and they gave me my drink with a bottle of Tabasco so I could control the heat. I appreciated this since I love spicy food and drinks and certain bartenders simply don't get it right. The food was delicious. My turkey burger was huge and came with a delicious salad. I stole fries off my relative's plate and those were also very good. For dessert we split the meringue which was good but certainly not mind-blowing. The space is well laid out with a regular restaurant vibe on one side and the bar side on another. The bathrooms are tucked away downstairs. This is a solid spot to grab brunch if you're in the area.
