We ordered the brisket grilled cheese on the waitress's recommendation but found it to be very underwhelming. More underwhelming was the wait for the food. We were having a ball sitting outside people watching and sipping $5 wine so the time passed quickly, but it was quite shocking to look at the clock and realize it literally took AN HOUR AND A HALF to get the two sandwiches we ordered. Did they have to roast a whole new brisket back there or what? How could there be no wait for the table and such a long wait for the food? Bizarre. Such a cute little lunch spot for a small group outing. There are so many sandwiches and paninis to choose from! Their latte/coffee options looked delicious, but the espresso machine was out of order. Instead, we each got an iced chai latte and it was SO rich and so good! We also ordered pomegranate mimosas. 10/10 recommend! The service was okay, our waitress did the best she could but you could tell they really could've used another person to help. Excellent, wonderful customer service. We ordered the shrimp & grits and cajun chicken. The shrimp & grits was savory and we received a lot of shrimp (which is uncommon). The cajun chicken was prepared with a sous vide and so tender. Also, the our side of mash potatoes was delicious... our 1 year old loved it. Brought my parents from out of town to see Christmas on Main Street and decided to have lunch here--the food was excellent (so many good choices!) and the "slightly sweet blueberry tea with sage" was the best iced tea I've ever had. First impression, super cute place! Second impression, why is it pretty empty and no one has greeted us yet? We got sat after waiting 10 minutes give or take and didn't get our waitress for another 10 minutes give or take. She brought us waters and asked if we wanted anything else to drink, we didn't have menus. She brought the 3 of us 1 singular menu to share. I asked another waitress for another menu and she said they were limited and they just got a 14 top so we could only have 1. We went to order and my dad wanted the meat loaf meatballs but the waitress said they were out. I got the grown up grilled cheese which was fine of course, it's a grilled cheese. Our food took a while which was okay because everything was clearly fresh. But, while we waited, the owner of manager had her dog tied up to a table and the dog kept barking. The DOG kept BARKING...ANNOYED. It was all rainy and 40 degrees out and we were sat right across from the door and the door was open so we were freezing. I asked a waitress if she could shut it and she said no they have to keep it open for business. Yes I understand, but come on yall close in 2 hours and the weather isn't pretty. We had a grown-up grilled cheese with brisket, and the what comes first (Half of an egg salad sandwich and half of a chicken salad sandwich., And we also ordered the tomato basil soup. We split all of it between the three of us and Everything was delicious! Not disappointed by one thing. I ordered a cold brew coffee with lavender syrup, and I was a bit worried. I've seen the lavender coffee, but it did not appeal to me. They allowed me to try a little bit of the syrup first, and I was impressed... the coffee it was fabulous! I HATE to make this review because I have supported this amazing small business for years and genuinely LOVE their food. However, this is constructive criticism in hopes that someone sees this and makes a change. Today was the 4th time in a row I have attempted to visit Mason & Dixie and ended up walking out because there was NO service, not a hello, not a "we are too busy/understaffed", not a word after 20 minutes of being ignored by staff. Before I start, I know the troubles of hiring more staff post-pandemic is not ideal. But something needs to change. My first attempt was similar to today. I walked in for lunch, it wasn't too busy but there was not a hostess or any staff I could see seating people. There was a waitress assisting customers but that's it. She took the tables order and walked back behind the bar. I continued to stand there and wait, nothing. A couple walked in and stood behind me for a bit before asking, "Are you waiting for a table?". I said yes and told her I had been standing there for awhile. We waited, waited and waited and still.... Nothing. The couple left and after a little longer I did too. After this experience, I thought maybe ordering To-Go is the way to go. I gave them a call during lunch hours and no one picked up. I thought, "okay, maybe they are on the line with someone else or taking care of someone there". So I waited a few more minutes and called back, rang and rang and.... Nothing. Okay. Let's try one last time, I waited 10 minutes and called back and.. You guessed it, nothing. I visited the restaurant again a few weeks after that - And this time, the staff did greet me but only to tell me, "We are very busy and don't know if we can sit you". Very dismissive with almost a rude tone like I was bothering them. Which was honestly just upsetting to me. Call me a glutton for punishment but I decided to visit again today with a friend. My friend arrived early and when I walked in she was standing at the front. I asked her "Is there a wait?" (because there were two ladies in front of us) and she said "No idea. No one has come to help and I've been standing here for about 15 minutes. Let's just go sit at the bar". The bar was open except for a couple at the end. We sat down as the waitress was delivering the couples food. She set their food down and walked back into the kitchen. The owner came over, in what I thought would be a greeting, but instead just moved a box of plastic wrap that was in front of us and walked to the back. We waited for the waitress to come back for a few more minutes before finally deciding to take our business down the street. Another upsetting visit to Mason & Dixie. Please please PLEASE make some changes because I love your food and atmosphere but the way the business is run is not conducive. I genuinely hope this review helps and calls attention to the areas this place could improve. A waste of delicious food and beautiful restaurant which could be improved if there was basic attention to the needs of customers. read more

I had looked up a restaurant in the area that was close to DFW airport and discovered Mason & Dixie. I'm so glad I did! My husband and I looked at the menu and there were so many good choices. Or server told us about a new item they had for the season called "Thanksgiving in your mouth" ...a sandwich of turkey, dressing, havarti cheese and a cranberry relish on a buttery croissant with turkey gravy on top. That sounded perfect. It was amazing! We split it (saving room for dessert). Dessert was another tough choice but we decided on the coconut cake which was a perfect cross between coconut cream pie and coconut cake. The decor was so cute and it was the perfect meal before getting in a plane. We will definitely be back to Mason & Dixie! It was like a taste of the south and that's something this Tennessee girl would know about. read more

We went to Mason & Dixie on a Saturday night for our date night. First I will say the food was really top notch. I had the tomato basil soup and the trio and both were excellent. My husband had the Cobb salad which he said was great, too. So no complaints there. However there were several issues with the ambiance. The restaurant was using an very strong smelling floral scented cleanser and it was so strong our wood table reeked of the smell. It gave me a headache and when the staff cleaned other nearby tables with the cleaning spray it was even more awful. It seems like a poor choice to use such strongly scented cleaning products in a restaurant. Additionally the angle of the sun was such that the sun was really strong on us, making me really hot and shining in my husband's eyes. There were no blinds to pull down so that was also a conscious choice. And finally the bill came and amounts charged were different than shown on the menus. When we asked we were told it was a 3.4% credit card fee added to all items. Fine but you should print that on your menu or include the charge in your prices. It's a shame because I really liked the food but with these other issues we won't go back. read more

Made reservations here on a Friday night at 7 pm. This place is on the main drag in grapevine so we were expecting it to be busy. Aside from one other table of 2 people, we were the only other party. Hostess told us to sit wherever but told us to stay in a particular side of the dining room, but the table we chose for our party size was filthy as was the floor. The hostess did clean it for us but the impression had been made. We were given 2 menus although we had 4 people and menus are on clipboards. We helped ourselves to 2 more and some sections were missing, like dinner entrees. Once we were able to get a dinner menu, not thrilled with the price point $25 per entree and nothing sounded too great. All menus items are a bit pricey to be honest. We actually did not eat there. We chose to leave. Not sure this place will make it. read more

Planning my daughters bridal shower 1000 miles away in California was stressful enough but booking it at a restaurant I had never ate at and going strictly by pictures and reviews was even more stressful. This place was absolutely adorable. We had the entire front room for the bridal shower. We needed minimal Decorations because the place was so cute! The food was delicious and the girls serving and assisting us were amazing. Anything we needed we got. They even gave recommendations to move some chairs and tables around to accommodate our balloons and insisted they move the furniture for us. Great place to host an event! read more

Service- this is the biggest area of opportunity. Hire a hostess! You cannot leave guests waiting at the door for close to 5 minutes ( we watched the clock) without at least acknowledging them. Yes, 2 couples did leave because they were tired of being ignored. The hotel doesn't offer a breakfast vendor so this is the closest spot for breakfast . Be prepared! 2 people trying to handle 2 rooms is a challenge. However, those 2 people need to look up when someone enters to offer a greeting. Hospitality 101. Food was ok. Ambience cute. Hmm.., we got there at 10:45am. Told that we may not be able to order breakfast because although it is served until 11am the breakfast kitchen closes at 10:45an. The chef gave his ok so I had waffles and regular coffee and husband had madame croque and water. He never was served his water. He drank mine which was brought to table. I asked for refill on coffee and was told she would bring it but that they were not Waffle House ... I did get a nice refill. The restaurant was also hosting a shower of some kind however they did not designate a server. The server was one of the two handling the serving floor. Where do I begin..... First off, there's no hostess when you come in...so everyone comes in and stands around while the staff (2 people) ignore you. It was busy, so we figured the food would be worth the wait....but sadly no. We waited 35 mins for 2 sandwich that cost $30 and it was extremely underwhelming. The adult grilled cheese was dipped in truffle oil, which was all you tasted. Luckily there was a watery tomato soup to dip it in for some flavor. The Rueben was poorly put together and overall not good. I would only come back if girlfriends wanted a day out for mimosas and a cute atmosphere. The chicken salad was EXTREMELY SOUR. It was hard to eat. I am a big chicken salad person. I also had the tomato basil soup which was delightful. The also give you complimentary chips and homemade salsa. The salsa was great. Atmosphere: loved the setup of the restaurant and think it would be a cute lunch date spot but only if they have adequate staffing. Service: after we were seated we waiting 15 minutes before receiving our drink orders (water). Overall the place is worth a try. Hopefully this was a one time thing with staffing.
