This place was recommended to me by one of my friends! We went together on a girls' night out and had a blast! The sushi here is SO delicious and we sure do love our sushi! As a group, we try to go to many sushi restaurants all around the DFW area and this by far has been one of our favorite locations. Everyone in our group had nothing but positive things to say about their experience. We have already started planning another visit back! I'm a big fan of their unagi nigiri and wish I had ordered more! Their rolls were very good and the service was fast. I'm sad that I no longer live close by to this restaurant but I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I would highly recommend going here too! read more

Masami - Japanese Near Me - Richardson, Texas

Always fresh and authentic shasimi and sushi served luke I remember in Tokyo. Best buy is the lunch bento boxes.

Service staff were very nice and pleasant. Ambiance was pleasant and cozy. However food was lousy. Rice used for Louisiana roll was warm and soggy. It was also limp. Did not find any crawfish. Chicken teriyaki was tough and dry. Salmon teriyaki was also dry. Only decent item was the tempura. read more

Our go-to place for sushi. No frills, just amazing fish and service. We have brought all our friends and have had great food and service every time. read more

The food and service were outstanding! We had a group of 8 people so we came early (6pm) to get a table; a private tatami room (floor seating) is also available. We had sushi, and a variety of dinners - tonkatsu, teriyaki, tempura, soup, and more. It was all really good. The service was excellent too. And unusual for a Japanese restaurant, they have an extensive dessert menu - don't miss it! read more

Great food! Great Price! Great hospitality. Generous servings. Clean establishment. Definitely would recommend...

First time trying this restaurant! Even though it had to be to go, we thought it was very good. The Masami roll and gyoza were amazing. And we loved the Masami donuts for dessert!!!! read more

Omg what a great little sushi spot! Fish was really fresh, buttery and delicious! Restuarant is quaint and music isn't blaring. Great spot for date night with your signficant other, friends and family. The only thing I would complain about is the service is a little on the slower side. I saw a lot of servers just standing around and chatting among themselves behind the bar and not attending to the guest. We came on a Sunday nightn it wasn't busy and I had to signal for the server a few times. The menu consists of traditional Japanese cuisine from appetizers to sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls and handrolls. They also have a great list of sales to choose from. My favorite thing about this restaurant is there is origami you can take home from the table by the front door. Such a cute idea! We would definitely come back again but maybe I would sit at the sushi bar for better service. read more

sometimes I read just the negative reviews about a resturant and then I see if they are all the same thing, bad service, manager with attitude, food is bad, or other things but if you read the negative reviews from masami, they are not the same and should I say.....kind of nuts or crazy. This resturant is totally 5 yelpy stars. The food, the service and just a wonderful small resturant are all exceptional. Yes the kitchen could be faster but over all not a long wait. The thing I love the best is the well researched gluten free menu. read more

The sushi and service were great. It will not disappoint. Make sure you make a reservation as the restaurant is not very big.

Excellent quality of sushi and affordable prices. This is the 2nd time we've been here. The first time it was decent but not too memorable. However, tonight it was on point and sooo delicious. The salmon was smooth, silky, and melts in your mouth. We initially order a salmon sashimi, but it was so good that we added another sashimi order plus salmon nigri. The scallop sushi was excellent as well. The fish was fresh and high quality. The sushi rolls were good. The agedashi tofu and soba noodles were well flavored. The desserts were tasty. The black sesame flan was unique and very well executed. It was not too sweet and had enough sesame flavor without being overpowering. The service was decent and better this time around. They can get pretty busy on the weekends. We came a hour before closing and was the only big table. Overall, this is a great place and worth a try. We look forward to coming back. read more

This is a hidden little spot that always delivers great food. Sit at watch them make your rolls.

This should be easily 4 stars jap restaurants. Authentic and reasonable pricing. It has rich izakaya feel. The sashimi is fresh n nice . Yakitori is a must and grill soba ( mackerel) is juicy and moist. read more

Holy amazing Sushi Batman! Where has Masami been all my life!?!? We met some local friends who live in the Richardson area and they wanted us to try out Masami. The couple has been coming here for years at least three times a month. So I figured if they are that dedicated why not check it out? I'm very glad that we did! Everything here seems very authentic. The flavor of the sushi tasted very fresh. It appears that anything you order here you will really enjoy it. For a Sunday night the restaurant was pretty full, but the service keep on checking on us. So you know they run a tight ship here. This is the type of place that no matter what you order you can't go wrong. My suggestion to you to you is to try one of everything. I'm looking forward to coming back here again, and I think you should try Masami out so you can experience what I'm writing about. read more

This is by far the best place in Frisco to have sushi. Yellowtail is unbelievable, so is everything else. Enjoy!

I grew up eating sushi and this place reminded me of the authentic mom and pop sushi places that I used to go to. This restaurant is humbly tucked away in a corner. The fish is super fresh and the fish on the nigiri is the appropriate size. Some newer fancier places cut the fish into the smallest pieces with a massive amount of rice which can be super offensive to anyone who understands authentic sushi. This is not a place for a large group looking to party, eat rolls covered in mayo, and pregame wasted. If you are looking for authentic fresh sushi, this is the place! read more

Fresh Sashimi. House sushi are of good value. Pretty crowded Saturday night. Lots of desserts to choose from.

Came with 5 other people and ended up at one of the "booths" where you sit on a cushion. Neat concept, but prefer to have a seat with a back, they do have normal tables and chairs available. The place is pretty cozy, and they can get a lot of people inside. The pork kuna was really tasty and They have a variety of other traditional options that are pretty cool and probably worth trying. The fish is very fresh and they have simple combinations that are cheap and specialty rolls that are more expensive, so plenty of taste/cost variety if that's important to you. My one problem with this place is we were there for 3 hours, in a "booth" without a chair back. It was crowded, but also Saturday night, so I feel like that is as prepared and they're going to be. So if you have time on your hands and a desire to be adventurous with your food, go check it out. Would order again Pork kuna Louisiana roll Scallop roll Takis roll Salmon roll has the salmon within the roll, caterpillar roll looks awesome. read more

One of the best Japanese sushi in town, authentic Japanese food, sushi made by Japanese chefs (you know what I mean). Ask for specials not on the menu. read more

Delicious authentic Japanese food, reasonable prices, great selection. Dining in is a lovely experience with attentive service.

This place is so freaking fantastic...I make it a point to come here every time I'm in Dallas!! I lived in Japn for a year and got very used to tasting authentic Japanese cuisine. Great sushi, amazing sunomono, soba, udon, you name it. It has been many years since I've been there but eating at Masami takes me back to that place. The sushi and sashimi are fresh and excellent, the appetizers, soups, and salad I have tried are out of this world (the kani sunomono is literally the best crab I've ever tasted). The zaru soba is simple but refreshing. Everything I've tried has been the real deal, and delicious. If you want loud music, deep fried rolls, and trendy fusion recipes, this is not the place for you. If you want authentic Japanese food in a charming, authentic atmosphere, I highly recommend Masami. read more

First time in, had two sushi rolls... They were decent, the bitter aftertaste tells me that I'm not returning for a second visit. It's small and crowded but it works for them. Clientele is what you would expect in this area... Annoying uppity middle-class. read more

I now feel I should change all my other sushi reviews to 4 stars because this spot exceeds all other sushi in north dallas and they deserve my only 5 star. The grade of sushi is unmatched and the servers are all super friendly. It's a must try. read more

Yummy! Yummy! Another Japanese family style restaurant! The place feel compact outside, but roomy inside. Their seating is unique because you have to share your space not with the one next to you , but behind you. Oh Lord, I can do my Yoga sitting position here too! Go check it out! My boyfriend and I came around 9ish on Saturday night and they were still serving quite a lot of people. We quickly got seated and ordered a bit too much for two , but we were both happy because it was sooo delicious and beyond our expectations. I couldn't remember the names well , but you could show our pictures to them! Jk! The entree with salmon was my bf's most fav. It "looked " dry, but actually crispy outside. inside was so juicy, tender and tasty Unlike other restaurants, their Tadayoshi tofu was so silky and soft. For sashimi order, the fish were fresh especially salmon. We love this place so bad. Will def come back for other dishes. read more

Remember small sushi joints that made sushi? I'm talking about a mom and pop place that made memorable food and made you feel welcome because the old guy who had been making sushi for decades was making your nigiri? This has been my go-to neighborhood sushi place for years. I've really never been disappointed. I usually get to-go, but I sat at the sushi bar with a friend last week, and we had a great night. We shared the tuna tower, Louisiana roll, and lots of nigiri. The albacore tuna was really good that night. We had two orders of it. I really do love this place. The staff couldn't be nicer and the sushi is delicious. read more

Delicious food! I highly recommend if you want a taste of authentic Japanese food. Cozy atmosphere and they even have a private room. If you have a larger group you may have to wait, but it's worth it. We've been here a few times and love it. My food took a little while to come out, but it was tempura, so it's expected. It just gave my boyfriend and I more time to enjoy ourselves. The tempura was not salty like some Americanized Japanese restaurants make. Both my meal and my boyfriend's meals became a part of the clean plate club. read more

Masami - Veggie Tempura Meal (comes with miso soup and a house salad with a delicious salad dressing) - Japanese Near Me - Richardson, Texas

Came here for an early dinner on a Saturday night! Ended up ordering way more food than we should have, but it was decent. crunchy roll: mediocre at best kara age chicken: I don't know why they spelled it this way but it was normal sashimi dinner: the only things we liked was their salmon & surf clam, everything else was not fresh yellowtail collar: not fully cooked through-very soft in some parts tamago: it was okay ikura: cant be bad like ever albacore tuna: not fresh that day tempura ice cream: I will come back just for this ice cream, very large portion and honestly my favorite read more

We ate here during dinner time on a Wednesday. It was decently full, did not have to wait for a table. We ordered the following rolls: Crunchy, Dragon, Eel, Rainbow, Spicy Tuna. Overall my review of each roll is the same, they were decent. Honestly, each roll left me feeling underwhelmed. This isn't the best sushi place in all of DFW, and it isn't the cheapest either. The interior is a nice atmosphere. If I were to come here again, I would probably stick to cooked entrees. read more

The Food We stopped in after seeing all the great reviews but sadly, we didn't enjoy the sushi very much. We ordered the sashimi dinner which ran about $28, several cooked and raw rolls. The prices were a bit high for the quality of sushi and atmosphere. The miso soup was good. The salad dressing was a bit bland and the chicken terriyaki was overcooked and tasted rubbery. The volcano roll was messy and over seasoned with mayo. Overall, the sushi rice was a little mushy and the rolls were not rolled tightly. The fish was not the freshest. We tried the uni as well and it did not taste fresh either. The atmosphere This is a small restaurant with a home style feel, nothing fancy. The welcome sign that moves up and down when guest open the door was cute as was the origami at the front. The tatami table is cute in concept but not efficient for the server. There were two huge flies that kept flying around us and landed on some food which was gross. They should've taken care of that sanitation issue before opening. The restroom was small but clean. The service Our server was nice and came back to check on us a few times. The food was brought out in spurts so it was a but awkward for some of the people at the table to eat while others waited. Good service though. read more

Order to-go. Service is very friendly. Eel roll is very savory. Would come back again.

Nothing fancy here. Just good sushi for reasonable price in a humble establishment. I tried this place with some friends recently and we shared a number of items. I didn't take notes of everything we tried... doh! But I do remember what I enjoyed. :) To begin with, my staple at any sushi restaurant, as well as the item that I judge most sushi restaurants by, is the salmon sashimi. You know when it's not good. And Masami's was good--the salmon tasted fresh and clean. We also had the agedashi tofu, the ahi tun tower, and a number of specialty rolls. All were good. Trying the different specialty rolls was especially fun; they have a pretty nice selection. Finally, the service was attentive and competent. I recommend Masami for a no-frills meal with good food and good service. read more

Yay! Can't wait to return to this cute little restaurant. Went during lunch recently and it was yum! We had sake sashimi, hamachi kama, and a couple of rolls to start. Husband followed with tempura soba and i had a bento box. Everything was fresh and delish! Having recently returned from Japan, I really appreciated the friendly, appreciative service and extra care put into the food preparation. The fish quality is top notch and presentation impressive. Great place for a quite date and a happy belly. read more

Masami doesn't really need another 5 star review raving about the food , so I will focus on the rest of the experience. My son & i showed up around 7 Friday night. Originally we had headed to Sushi Sake, but there was a 30 minute wait & I'm an impatient guy. Masami was packed, too, but the host found a small table, cleared it off, and we were seated in less than 5 minutes. No doubt if we had more in our party it would have taken longer. We had a trainee waitress, complete with supervisor, which actually meant we had super-attentive service. I asked if we could do an omakase - expecting an answer of "no", since (A) we weren 't at the bar (where no seats were left ) and (B) the joint was wall-to-wall people. She asked Chef Ryo and glory be, he said yes ! She wanted to know if we wanted just sushi, just sashimi ... And i said we were at his mercy - cooked dishes were fine too. She asked our price range, which was $80-90. We started with cold monkfish "pate", unusual but subtly tasty. Then a plate of fried sand eels. Third was a bowl of long-cooked pork (3 days she said! Must have been sous vide or the equivalent) in delicious sauce. After that she informed us that the "cooked" part of our meal was over. On to sushi. Given the exotic nature of what had gone before, i expected weirdo sushi, but Ryo stuck to tried. & true basics. Mutsu, toro, snapper, salmon, and an amazingly-fresh-tasting yellowtail roll. Everything familiar - just particularly fine examples. We finished with what she called a live scallop, but it was sliced neatly & wasn't wiggling or anything. We weren't filled to the gills (let's face it - omakase is not about vast quantities of filling starch!) so we ordered dessert, too. Banana fritters & tempura ice cream. The tempura ice cream was good, but 'twould have been even better if it had not been vanilla. (I like vanilla, but feel tempura ice cream needs something more vibrant). I figured $90 plus dessert i was looking at a huge price tag. Worth it of course, but ... When the bill came it was $79 including our desserts! Wow, he 'd figured that in before we even ordered. No attempt to gouge or push it to the financial limit which i really appreciated. Thanks, Mr. Ryo! You rock! 5-star service, a well planned culinary journey, and an honest and honorable price. I'm coming here again. read more
