Tuna roll (with hidden surprise wasabi) and yellowtail roll
Moriah H.

Celebrated Valentine's Day at Masami. We got the tuna roll, house special #1 roll, salmon roll, and yellowtail roll, and a 7oz hot sake. Our total bill came out to approximately $40. I adored the yellowtail and salmon rolls. They were very special for single ingredient-type fish rolls. The sake was yummy. Vibe is very small, family owned neighborhood joint. I loved how cozy it felt. If my husband and I lived closer, we would be here every other week. We look forward to coming back and bringing out of town guests.

Celebrated a birthday at Masami in Richardson and it was such a great pick. The food was super fresh, everything tasted clean and well done, and the vibe inside is really nice. We sat in the main dining area and it felt lively but still relaxed enough to actually enjoy the meal. Service was good, attentive without being over the top. Heads up, you'll want a reservation. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

Fried donut dessert item: with 3 assorted dipping sauces (strawberry couli / condensed milk / chocolate syrup). Must get!

This Japanese restaurant is a mainstay for North Dallas folks. I always enjoy their grilled squid with squid ink sauce, toro, spider rolls, tempura shrimp, everything. The wait staff are always attentive and friendly. Their desserts are good. Can't go wrong with their homemade Masami Donuts with various jams.

darvish roll, salmon nigiri

Overall: 3/5 Food: 4/5 - I came here with a friend and I got the darvish roll and 2 salmon nigiri and my friend got the heart attack roll and 2 salmon nigiri. The taste was alright but nothing memorable or amazing. Service: 3/5 - Our server was nice but there was not that much "service" as we didn't get water refill until basically the end of our meal and it was not even done by the server himself. There was no wait to be seated on a sunday evening but the restaurant was decently packed. Value: 2/5 - My total ended up being $31 which is a little disappointing for the quality and service that this place offers. This place was the most disappointing restaurant I went to during my time in dallas and would be hesitant to recommend or return to. Overall, this place (if remembered ) will be remembered as the most disappointing restaurant I went to during my time in dallas, texas ! Because there are so many restaurants in dallas, I would say it would be fine to skip this place !

FOOD Salmon Salad - they gave us a small dish of salmon with mayo and onion. Tasted very light and a great way to start the evening. Taiki Roll - Has jalapeños which give a kick. Not too much masago inside. Definitely just packs a punch. Crunch Salmon - Good amount of crunch on the top that was crispy. Salmon is fresh and pretty good roll. Kamo Soba - The broth is pretty yummy. It has a decent portion of duck and shiitake mushrooms. Personally, I think it would be good with udon noodle versus the soba noodle. Tempura Zaro Soba - I really like this version of the soap of where you dipped the noodles in. It was the first time that I had some noodles and it's a very refreshing dish. Also, the tempura was very crunchy. It came with two pieces of shrimp as well as two potatoes. Would highly recommend and pretty good deal on the price. VIBES There is booth seating, which consist of benches with cushions on it as well as table, seating and seating at the sushi bar. The lighting is on the dimmer side, and it gives sort of like a studio vibe with the brick wall, as well as just a comfy homestyle with the counter. SERVICE Service is great! Everyone seems very welcoming and they are quick to refill drinks

Out of town visiting my sister and she brought our family here for dinner. I trust her taste but also, Sushi in a Dallas suburb? I was skeptical. But this place lived up to the excitement she had. Great fresh fish. Awesome rolls and nigiri. Kind service. Great mix of sakes, wines and beers. Not fancy in terms of decor but you don't need that when the sushi is so tasty.

Tried Masami on a Friday night per a coworker's suggestion! Parking was somewhat hard to find as the restaurant was very packed, but we only waited about 15 minutes for a table since it was just two of us. Sushi was decent for the price, but nothing mind blowing. Some pieces were a bit chewy and didn't taste super fresh. It gets the job done if you don't want to make the trek downtown to get your sushi fix.

I'm MAD! Mad bc I grew up in Richardson and never found this place until now! Love the options, It felt like there was enough of a different quantity of items that absolutely anyone could find something they love here! It wasn't too many items (think cheesecake factory 700 page menu) lol. The quality was spot on, The tempuro was perfectly cooked, nice portion sizes, and sushi is fresh. 10 out of 10 Ambiance: Dark and moody lighting, warm and family owned feel! Plenty of seating. And love sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs prepare their art. The prices were reasonable and solid quality. The server was attentive. I know and she had multiple tables and still ensure that all tables were taken care of sure I'll be right there. Also I was greeted right away with who may have been the host or maybe one of the owners. Service was excellent and friendly.

Nabeyaki Udon with poached egg and shrimp tempura

Everything we got one of each thing and shared everything. We got the Nabeyaki Udon and it was good! Very light broth and chewy udon. It came in a ceramic pot that kept it hot for awhile. We also got the heart attack roll, the Taiki roll, and the crunchy salmon roll. My favorite was probably the crunchy salmon. For some reason the Taiki roll was much spicier than the heart attack roll, even though the heart attack roll had bigger slices of jalapeño. We also got 6 salmon nigiris. One thing I will say, I did not realize that all the nigiris came with wasabi in between the rice and fish. I hate wasabi, so I ended up trying to scrape as much of it off as I could. We also got the spicy edamame. They were okay. I was expecting a saucy spicy edamame, but it was just a light sprinkling of some type of chili powder that did not have much flavor on it. I'd just save the extra dollar and get regular edamame if you were between the two. The service was great! I'd recommend calling a day in advance to secure a reservation. It is a small, but cozy environment.

Fantastic lunch option around Dallas/richardson if you're craving sushi. They have pretty affordable and sizable lunch box options that includes: sushi, sashimi, chirashi, katsu etc. the raw fish quality is pretty good. The decor is very comfortable and relaxing as well. I loved the welcome sign that goes up and down as the front door opens .

What a cute sushi gem in Richardson. I've driven this place so many times and never knew it even existed... so glad I finally tried it! It is definitely a smaller restaurant... which gives it a more cozy feeling and staff was able to give you more authentic, and attentive service. I love how they offer a private dining area where guests sit on the floor with shoes off! Our favorite dish was the escolar sashimi. It was fresh and the texture was amazing! The hamachi Kama was really good too, and their pricing of the hamachi is better than other sushi places in the area. We will definitely be back and looking forward to trying their other sushi rolls!

Step on in and have a taste of Japon. It was cute and tasty and really good. Be prepared for a wait. It took a while to get all our order out, but worth the wait. Looking for a good sushi spot near us, so when we came here to Dallas to visit my son we were excited to find a good sushi spot. And we were not disappointed. The fish was fresh. The rolls were expertly hand crafted and the service was attentive, courteous and sweet. I started with some hot saki and a Sapporo. We got spicy edamame which was a little small and could have had more spicy goodness. I also had a dragon roll, heart attack roll, and house special 1. All three were good. Dragon had good avocado amd tempura. The heart attack could have been spicier but was good. And the house special was really good with the wasabi root. If you live close it is a must try.

Ask the Community - Masami

Do they provide delivery?

No, pick up only.

Do they have happy hour during the week for food specials?

Every Tuesday night between 5:30 pm until 10 pm they have half off Hot Sake, Wine (glass or bottle) (excluding Prosecco), and Beer

Do they have Onigiri: the rice ball?

Yes, they have (sake) grilled salmon rice ball, (okaka) bonito flakes rice ball, (ume) pickled plum rice ball, and (yaki) soy sauce coated grilled rice ball.…

Is this an all you can eat sushi place or do you have to pay per plate?

Yes this question would offend the long time sushi chef and owner. This place is the opposite of buffet sushi, which is generally a gross concept.

I really wanted to rate this higher because of how helpful she was with cooking the meat, getting our orders in, and making sure we were getting our food. Unfortunately, most of the meat we got was not good. The brisket was cut pretty thick, so when it was cooked it was tough. The galbi was really chewy as well, no matter how much I chewed I just couldn't break it down. Ended up having to spit some of them out. The pork belly and signature steak was good though. As for the sushi, I thought it was better overall and actually preferred it over the meat. There's a seared wagyu sushi that was so good! The shrimp for the shrimp tempura udon was also very oily, but the noodles were good! In the end, it's a good spot to take friends visiting with a very wide range of food items on the menu. We got the $39.99 option, so there was kbbq, sushi, apps, and noodles. I'd maybe come back for the high noon lunch special, but anything kbbq related, I'm looking elsewhere for now.

Overall: 4.7/5 [dine in]…read more Our sushi chef was Jayden and he was so nice. He checked in with us throughout the meal to make sure everything tasted good, offered to cut our hand rolls in half so we could share, and even gave us a salmon belly on the house. Black Cod Nigiri ($6): Best bite of the night and it was on the seasonal menu. It was cooked and I'm not sure what they did to it, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Salmon Truffle Ponzu ($18): My second favorite dish of the night. The salmon was super fresh and the truffle ponzu elevated the whole thing. Scallop Foie Gras ($24): Beautiful presentation and good but surprisingly not as flavorful as the salmon truffle ponzu. I was expecting more umami from the foie gras. Salmon Belly Toro Nigiri ($16): Salmon belly with fatty toro topped with ikura. Delicious and melts in your mouth. Toro Wagyu Uni Nigiri ($22): Fatty tuna, A5 wagyu beef, and uni nigiri. My husband thought it was fun to eat, but said he would not order it again. Nodoguro Nigiri ($13): I looked this up, and it's apparently a rare high end deep sea fish from Japan known as the toro of white fish. Based purely on taste though, I thought it was okay and did not compare to the salmon belly. Kanpachi Cherry Blossom ($6.50): A pretty rosy pink color with a subtle cherry blossom flavor. Okay in terms of taste compared to the other fishes we had. Ami Ebi Nigiri ($10): The sweet shrimp was a bit too raw for me. Crab Uni Butter Nigiri ($12): I did not really taste the difference between the uni infused butter and regular butter so I am not sure it is worth the price, though it was still good. Snow Crab Handroll ($7): So much better than imitation crab. Recommend out of all the handrolls we tried. Eel Handroll ($7.50): Not my favorite but my husband said it was one of the best eel he has ever had. Lobster Handroll ($12): Good but nothing special. Volcano Roll ($28): This took the longest to make and was the last item we received even though we saw them start preparing it at the beginning of the meal. The presentation was beautiful and Jayden even sprayed gold on it for our photo and video. It comes with snow crab, avocado, lobster, and bay scallop topped with eel sauce and was really yummy with lots of seafood. The only downside was that the roll underneath broke apart easily which made it hard to eat. Fresh Wasabi Root ($10): We watched them grind the wasabi fresh which was cool to see. It doesn't have a kick to it though so I wouldn't order it again since I like a tiny bit of spiciness. Matcha Mojito ($15): Not for me. It had a bit too much club soda. Yuzu Saketini ($15): I liked this one more than the matcha mojito. The yuzu flavor was prominent and it kind of reminded me of a Lemon Drop.
