This is a 50s themed restaurant that apparently prides itself on quantity over quality. My wife and I had to fill up before going off in a hike and climb. Driving north on 102, we spotted MaryAnn's and decided to stop. The waitresses all played the 50s part wearing long poodle skirts. Kind of cool atmosphere. I ordered the hash and cheese (cheddar from a selection of four) omelette. My wife wanted blueberry pancakes and was ready to order three. Our server quickly noted the pancakes were huge and that two would be fine, if she wanted a third afterwards they could quickly bring one out. My omelette was huge, stuffed to the gill with hash. There was a large amount of home-fries on the side. I ordered wheat toast. The toast was the tastiest part of my meal. The hash was primarily diced potatoes with some corned beef that added little if any flavor. The home-fries were hot, but bland. Would have liked some seasoning and maybe some onion mixed in. Large order, little taste. My wife's pancakes were equally disappointing, if not more. Yeah they were huge as our waitress suggested, and two were enough, but the blueberries were extremely sour/bitter. I understand they may be out of season, but these were unappetizing and should not have been used. They were also also clumped in the center if the cakes, not distributed throughout the cake batter. It's like they poured the batter on the grill and threw a handful of bitter blueberries in the middle. Our waitress was terrific. She deserves a star herself. So i just got done eating from here because my boyfriend couldn't stop saying how awesome it was... Because he's a picky eater I believed him but he only gets the Texas French toast ... Well that's what he got with a side of bacon and the bacon was hard and seemed old .... The French toast WAS pretty good I have to admit but my food on the other hand.... I got the sausage & gravy biscuits and home fries on the side and the home fries were nice and hot from the deep fryer (deep fried is the way to go) but my biscuits n gravy was cold and that instantly pissed me off and ruined it all for me so I ended up just eating toast and home fries... Yea... Not a place I would recommend. But I can say the waitress was nice and didn't come ask us how everything was a thousand times but when she did it was at the best times and the place looks cool that's about it. read more

Spent the morning in Londonderry/Derry for a brief work excursion and looked for a diner almost immediately. The staff was professional and with a quick pour to keep my coffee to the top. My omelette, home fries, and toast were very pleasing. I wasn't ready for the bright 50s feel decor that was happening inside, it was very nostalgic and set in the period but I was thinking simple basic diner before going in. I've been going to Mary Ann's for the past 10 years or so, which includes about 10 years of pancakes, 10 years of eggs, and 10 years of bacon and toast. It's definitely not without its flaws (food isn't piping hot, mixed up orders), but obviously if I'm drawn back time after time for an decade, it's gotta be good. This local Derry/Londonderry staple has traditional breakfast diner fare (with a 50's flair!...I couldn't resist a good rhyme), dirt cheap prices, and a friendly waitstaff. My favorite, and traditional standby dish is the Two Eggs, Wheat Toast, Homefries, and Bacon, but the strawberry-stuffed french toast is tasty as well. read more

It used to be where the Derry Diner is currently. And I swear the food used to taste better! Now don't get me wrong, I like Maryanne's, but the food is more okay when it used to be good. I love Maryann's selection and decor. The food is usually good but on my visit today i ordered the egg benedict florentine (my second time ordering it) and the eggs were overcooked. They were overcooked last time too, so I can't say I was surprised. A breakfast place should be able to cook an egg! The re-cook took longer than it should have, the rest of my party was pretty much done eating before I got my meal. Our server was only mediocre. We had to ask for coffee refills and even after asking, waited and watched while he assisted other tables and then brought other tables their coffee first. When he brought the check he said "i gave you the discount I could." which turned out to be the senior discount, less than 3 bucks off. No manager stopped by or anything. I know this place is busy and won't miss my business, but I won't be back anytime soon. read more

This is a great place to go for diner food. The wait might be long on the weekends, but if you can snag some counter seats for your party you can speed up the process by a lot. The waitresses are very kind and fast paced, so if you're in a rush, they can help you no problem. I love how you can get things so customized because you order everything individually, so you can save some money when you only get the things you really want instead of getting something and changing it a lot and still having to pay for something you didn't get. I got the "healthy breakfast" I think when I went and the only downer about it was that I got about 5 eggs worth of egg white. It was very good though and I plan on returning. read more

I'm unfamiliar with the Derry area and needed to meet a colleague there so we could review a presentation together. I choose MaryAnn's Diner as our meeting spot - located right downtown off of Broadway, I was anticipating we could spend a few hours eating lunch and working on our laptops there. The decor was cute - 50's & 60's memorabilia on the walls, oldies music playing, and waitresses in poodle skirts. Ample parking in a lot behind the restaurant. However, after arriving I learned that MaryAnn's doesn't have wireless Internet, and when the waitress eyed our laptops on the table she insisted that we couldn't plug them in anywhere, even though we hadn't asked. We ended up going to the Derry Public Library instead, but returned to MaryAnn's a few hours later to finally eat. I had a grilled chicken salad, which was average at best. The food came very fast after we ordered, and the service was prompt and the (different) waitress was friendly. When paying the bill, I had to stand at the register for a few minutes, until the staff stopped chatting amongst themselves and someone cashed me out. :( read more

I grew up in Derry and if it weren't for my parents still being there, I wouldn't have much reason to visit it again. One draw that's still difficult to resist - breakfast at MaryAnn's. I once met John Kerry here while he was running for President. Derry is short enough on Democrats that you can get pretty close to them when they have appearances. I'm picky about my breakfast and brunch fare - I just think many places do it poorly, and sad as it sounds, it's pretty easy to ruin eggs. Good home fries are hard to come by. And some places can't get French Toast right. Here you get all of the staples of a good breakfast, all done just right. Portions are solid - not skimpy but not contributing to the obesity epidemic either. And the servers - always friendly, dressed to match the 50's decor. I just wish MaryAnn's was open a little later, because the urge to eat breakfast food can hit at any time. read more

New menu, prices definitely went up - but understandable. They are still my favorite breakfast place. Sad that I realized their new (smaller) coffee mugs. But they sure do keep them full of delicious HOT New England coffee, so I don't mind! I highly recommend the Banana-stuffed french toast with strawberries; it is a great indulgence. I definitely have a special place in my heart for their grilled muffins, and their 2 eggs/toast/home fires plate. This place is great. I've been a number of times and the service has always been good. More importantly, I have yet to find anything on the menu that I don't like. Not sure if we hit this place on the wrong day or what. The breakfast was one of the most bland meals I ever had. The eggs were flavorless and the potatoes tasted old. The atmosphere is lovely, although the place was completely over packed when we ate there. Prices were a bit steep too, considering you can get more for less money in many nearby restaurants. My family and I live in Derry, and we've tried just about every place for breakfast. Sadly, this was one of the worst. My advice, try How's Your Onion instead. read more

This is a nice diner--I can tell that it's really popular with the local Derry people because it's always packed on Saturday mornings. The decor is very cool--lots of chrome fixtures, celebrity pictures, and the sparkly booth seats. The waitresses have poodle skirts and their hair tied with ribbon. They take credit cards, which is a good thing. I hate carrying cash. Menu was good--lots of omelets and benedicts. They had an interesting Jack Daniels raspberry steak tips thing that I wanted to try, but I would've never had room to finish the whole thing and I was gonna be out the whole day. Someday, though. I was sad because I had to throw out my leftovers after being in a hot car for several hours. For having 100 people to attend to all at once, our waitress was still pretty attentive and helped us in a timely manner. That was impressive. I don't get the hype. This place is iconic in Derry. TO the point where it is now a NH stop for campaigners. So I had the pleasure of being annoying by Rick Perry while I was trying to friggin eat. Their food is breakfast food. It's the same as everyone elses. their home fries are not as good as surrounding diners, however. They also have OKAY bacon, not real crispy even if you ask for it that way. Their corned beef hash is eh... I also asked for that crispy and it was like warm slop from the can. I think there are better breakfast places around Derry. For instance, Hows your onion, Brooklyn Bagel House. And those places don't close at like 1 o'clock. Not mentioning the atmosphere of a 50's diner. Which in my opinion is tacky. The waitresses don't seem too enthusiastic about looking so dated. The best part is that it's cheap. It's decent breakfast, and cheap. But this has got to be the most overrated place I've ever been to. It goes to show, just because it's a "50's themed" diner, it is iconic and famous. When I tell people where I live, they have no idea what's even in Derry, or any landmark I've mentioned thus far. I mention Maryanns and they are like OH YEAHH!!! I've been going to Maryanne's since I moved up from Florida. We really don't have any good diners so I was thrilled to find a place like this. The service is awesome and the food never disappoints. I get the same things almost every time I go in because it never fails to satisfy. The atmosphere is awesome, it's like time traveling to the 50's! The music and the attire worn be the waitresses (poodle skirts) is spot on for the times back then. I love it this place and will continue to go in on a regular basis to eat. Breakfast and lunch are both awesome! I especially love the breakfast though. Go check it out if you haven't yet. You won't be disappointed. read more

My girlfriend and I had just moved into Londonderry NH and were looking for a budget friendly way to enjoy a breakfast out. MaryAnn's Diner proved to be just what the doctor ordered. The diner's 50's decor was easy to spot on the street, and the atmosphere was incredible upon entering. Being able to seat ourselves was a nice touch, much different from other places. The waitstaff was prompt, and cheerful, adding to the overall experience. I ordered the hash and cheese omelet which came with a side of home fries and sourdough toast. It turned out to be one of the biggest breakfasts I had ever had at a restaurant. The portions were huge, and the prices were a bargain. My girlfriend and I were able to enjoy a complete breakfast for under $20 total. Considering the low prices, I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the food we were served. I would recommend preparing for a wait if you are to visit this place; the tables are taken quickly which can lead to some longer waits. It's annoying to have to pay for syrup if you are not happy with the cheap stuff that they water down. This one's for you Erin. Stopped by on a whim passing thru. This a typical 50's diner with a few twists.. Yes, breakfast only on the weekends but Mimosa's are an option on the menu! Iced coffee and an Atkins breakfast Sauté. Interesting since I did order that but has really wanted the mix that was in the Dutch Sauté. What I got was a little of both, which thrilled me but might not make some folks happy. Again I liked that. Way more food then anyone ordering Atkins can eat, more than a "manly portion". Coffee never empty, and good to boot. Several other unique menu items but I didn't have them so can't fairly comment. Cook to wait staff ration is off but service is great! Went here on a Sunday morning and boy was it packed although there was no wait for a table and the service was very quick. This is a typical diner with the usual diner menu options. I found the quality of the food to be good, but not spectacular. The best thing was that the prices were very cheap and portions were huge. I went with combo breakfast that had 2 of everything and it was a ton of food and I honestly probably would have been better off with the 1 of everything combo. So if you are looking for a cheap basic breakfast this is a good option. If you are looking for interesting or creative breakfast options go elsewhere. read more

We stopped at MaryAnn's when passing through Derry on our way to Vermont. We are quite happy with that decision and if the opportunity presents itself, we will stop in again. My girlfriend ordered the Hungry Boy, which was 3 eggs, 2 toast, ham, bacon, sausage, home fries, and two french toast. Everything on the plate was good, with both the sausage and the french toast meriting extra mention. I went with the sausage, gravy, and biscuits, served with toast, home fries, and topped with scrambled eggs. I don't see biscuits and gravy on very many menus in New England, and MaryAnn's were excellent. I was also happy to see sourdough toast as an option. The scrambled eggs were not particularly good, but everything else was excellent. The service at MaryAnn's was good and the booths quite spacious. Warning: they do not have Equal in the sugar tray so I ended up heading out to the car to get the supply that we carry with us. read more

Yum, absolutely no complaints. We came in with a party of 4 during a full house with a line and got seated in less than 10 minutes. Staff was busy, but took good care of us. Food came out quickly and it was such high quality. The omelets weren't a big mush of ingredients (even the spinach wasn't watery!), the corned beef wasn't overly greasy, and the mimosas weren't made up of all orange juice! This is a terrific diner. There is a lot of room here. They need it. On weekends the lines stretch out into the snow, and it can take you an hour to get seated. That said, I've gotten there at 830 on a weekend and I think I beat the Methodists because we got right in. The service and food are terrific. The decor is 50's chrome - very Elvis. They have pictures of ballplayers and politicians eating there. If you are ever near Derry, and it's not yet 2pm, you have got to go, whether you are hungry or not. If it's after 2, go someplace else. They'll be closed. read more

Went here with my son for lunch on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised. It's a 50's diner style and the waitresses wear poodle skirts. Very cute. I got the sloppy joe lunch special with home made potato chips and a side of Italian wedding soup. The sloppy joe was seriously the best sloppy joe I've ever eaten. It was huge and required a fork to eat. I can't even explain it. Lol. The chips were plentiful, warm and lightly seasoned with bbq seasoning. Yummy. The soup was standard wedding soup Progresso style, but that's fine with me because it's my favorite. The boy got a turkey melt with Russian dressing and fries and a soda. Total cost for lunch was $18. Awesome value. I wanted to order a sloppy joe to bring home for hubby but unfortunately they had run out. Go there. It is awesome! read more

Mary Ann's is one of those diners that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. Themed in 50s & 60s decor, it's a refreshing atmosphere for breakfast or lunch. The wait staff are always friendly and prompt. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent. I don't think I have ever been disappointed with them in the 15 years I have attended there. Keep in mind that they only serve breakfast on the weekends and some holidays. I would love it it they offered some some lunch items on the weekend as their lunches are great. (On days off from work, I always try to make it there for lunch!) The only reason I knocked off a star is due to the fact that parking and wait times are tough. This really isn't their fault as they are located in downtown. But there are some days were you could wait 45 minutes or more for a table of 4. That should tell you how well they are liked! read more

As promised on my original review we returned for a 2nd time to once again test MaryAnn's Diner's bill of fare. I ordered the exact same Eggs Benedict as from my previous visit but unfortunately the results were unchanged. The tomatoes slices in the Benedict were so thin you'd almost think they were sliced using a lab's micro dissecting device..the same goes for the ham except that the ham was smaller in diameter. They also stated that spinach would be included but all I found was one lonely dried up piece lying next to the Benedict. The eggs were done perfectly yet the sauce was uneventful, kind of blah would be more explicit! On a kinder note, my wife ordered an omelet with bacon and she thought it was just OK but nothing more. I'd also remark that the loudness of the Rock & Roll music was turned down to a mild listening status which was a desired change from the 1st visit. And again the servers were above reproach as were the reasonable prices. I wish them well but sorry, but there won't be a 3rd time for us. read more
