As Old Forge proclaims itself as "pizza capital of the world" for it's unique tray style of square pizza, I made it a point to try it out when in the Scranton area, and I chose Mary Lou's Pizza due to the positive reviews online. Unlike some of the other well known pizza spots in Old Forge, they are open for lunch and also have an indoor dining area. I ordered in advance since pizzas take a while to cook, and was ready right on time when promised. The lady that answered the phone was really pleasant in taking my order and answering questions I had, and also made it a point to chat with us when we came in. I appreciated the genuinely friendly conversation and her checking in to ask how the pizza was after we tried it. The interior seating area is cozy, clean, and modern, with tasteful pictures of Italy's landmarks on the wall. We went with a tray of the red, which is the standard pizza with cheese and red tomato sauce. While it looks like a Sicilian slice, it's feel is airy and much lighter, with a great crunchy crust. While the sauce and cheese were decent enough, they didn't measure up to the quality I'm spoiled with in the New Jersey/Philadelphia areas. The crust was really the star of the show, and gave vibes of a unique taste akin to a French bread and/or Ellios pizza crust the way they used to make it decades ago. While it wouldn't be in my wheelhouse for a style of pizza I'd regularly get, we were satisfied with the taste of the pizza and the overall experience. Since I haven't tried any of the other Old Forge pizzas and have nothing to compare it to, I'll chalk the pizza up to a 4.5/5 for its own unique special style, and am happy to round up for the satisfying experience and friendly service. I'd recommend giving Mary Lou's Pizza a try to others looking to experience Old Forge pizza.

Walking in you are immediately greeted by a big smile and the smell of heavenly pizza. If you're here to grab a bite, take home a tray, or sit down with that special someone you will find it here. The music, atmosphere, and amazing staff will take care of everything. Oh and not to mention everything is incredibly clean. You are able to see everything being made and you know quality when you can see it!!!

This place is off the main drag but for a good reason! Mary Lou herself still works the oven with her sons and grandsons and shares the building with some of her family's own businesses. The classic red pizza was excellent! We got it with meatballs and it had the right amount of topping ratio and plenty to share. We also wanted to try a white pizza - we got the double crust white pizza. VERY CHEESEY and excellent when fresh. I didn't even take a photo of the pizza but here is one of us with Mary Lou herself!

I went here for the first time the other day. I'm glad I did. I had the white pizza and of course the classic red pizza. The white was very good but very heavy because of all the cheese. The red was excellent and will be my main choice going forward. Also the employees here are very friendly and the place was very clean and well kept. I highly recommend this establishment

Tried this place out because it's well-known and I've read that this place is one of the best pizza places in the pizza capital of the world (old forge). I had no idea what the slices/cuts would look like so we ordered one cut each. If I had known it was smaller than the average NY slice, I would have ordered 2. It was a bit too crunchy for my taste. Taste was good and it's inexpensive.

I did something stupid and I have zero regrets…read more I knew it was stupid. The waitress knew it was stupid. As did everyone at the bar. And you know what? I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Many years ago, I went on a little tour of Old Forge pizza. We tried the red. We tried the white. We went to the famous places. We went to the dives. But somehow we never made it to Anthony's? Maybe it was their hours? Maybe it was because the Old Forge white was not available by the cut? It's hard to say. But what I know for sure is that I came out of the tour with a deep abiding love for Old Forge white with broccoli. IMHO it needs the broccoli. Regrettably, my old favorites for white with broccoli have fallen from grace, which is a loss. But the silver lining is that I have found Anthony's and their white broccoli is amazing! An entire white broccoli pie is a staggering quantity of food. So when I walked up to the bar as a solo diner, and placed my order of a white broccoli pie for here, the waitress looked a little uneasy and paused for a moment. In the pause, I acknowledged that I knew I was ordering enough food for a crew, and that I expected to be taking much of it home. It also takes a staggeringly long time to bake something that large in an oven. And I knew that going in. So I nursed my Yuengling, and even took a few nibbles of bread and butter that were brought out while I waited. I have to say, that first bite just had me swooning, and I don't swoon easily. The top crust was beautifully seasoned with herbs, spices, and onions. The bottom crust was golden and crisp. The cheese was oozing and broccoli was bursting forth. Please, please, please eat this pizza in the restaurant. It's glorious when it first comes out of the oven. The longer it sits, the less crisp the bottom becomes. Trust me. It's worth it. With the beer, tip, and taxes, the whole thing set me back $33. Obviously there were leftovers too. My original plan had been to offer cuts of the pie to other folks at the bar, but by the time I got there, everyone had already eaten, so I wasn't able to give away a single cut. So it goes. And I did push myself to eat more than I should have. Slice one was a revelation. Slice two a delight. Slice three felt more like a dare. And slice four? That was pure hubris. I only got a couple of bites in and then I had to tap out. But I wanted to tackle at least half of the pie on premise. So it goes. I learned something about myself that night, but more importantly, I discovered a new Old Forge institution, to which I am looking forward to returning time and time again. P.S. I should note I saw lots of food come out, and really all the portions are huge. Just like I could have split this with a couple other folks, the same is true for every dish was brought to the bar.

It's more of a takeout place but they do have two tables set up if you want to have it there. Today's pizza is basic and right to the point, a patron behind me told me after asking what the popular choice it's their sweet sauce pizza was, so that's what I got. Now sitting there, I noticed they do a good amount of take out. I also saw the same door dash guy a few times. Now, how was my pizza you ask?
