One of the best pizza places around. Can't beat Mary Lou's sauce. I'm definitely going to try per pasta one of these days !

As Old Forge proclaims itself as "pizza capital of the world" for it's unique tray style of square pizza, I made it a point to try it out when in the Scranton area, and I chose Mary Lou's Pizza due to the positive reviews online. Unlike some of the other well known pizza spots in Old Forge, they are open for lunch and also have an indoor dining area. I ordered in advance since pizzas take a while to cook, and was ready right on time when promised. The lady that answered the phone was really pleasant in taking my order and answering questions I had, and also made it a point to chat with us when we came in. I appreciated the genuinely friendly conversation and her checking in to ask how the pizza was after we tried it. The interior seating area is cozy, clean, and modern, with tasteful pictures of Italy's landmarks on the wall. We went with a tray of the red, which is the standard pizza with cheese and red tomato sauce. While it looks like a Sicilian slice, it's feel is airy and much lighter, with a great crunchy crust. While the sauce and cheese were decent enough, they didn't measure up to the quality I'm spoiled with in the New Jersey/Philadelphia areas. The crust was really the star of the show, and gave vibes of a unique taste akin to a French bread and/or Ellios pizza crust the way they used to make it decades ago. While it wouldn't be in my wheelhouse for a style of pizza I'd regularly get, we were satisfied with the taste of the pizza and the overall experience. Since I haven't tried any of the other Old Forge pizzas and have nothing to compare it to, I'll chalk the pizza up to a 4.5/5 for its own unique special style, and am happy to round up for the satisfying experience and friendly service. I'd recommend giving Mary Lou's Pizza a try to others looking to experience Old Forge pizza. read more

A nice history. We tried the "Old Forge" style pizza- meh. It's like focaccia bread with red sauce and cheese on top. It had a good crisp. Maybe a nice snack with a glass of wine or part of an aperitivo- but we definitely prefer thin crust, round pizza. We did buy Mary Lou's homemade fettuccine for later. Meravigliosa!! The server was kind and accommodating. We even got to meet Mary Lou! Worth a stop for sure. read more

Walking in you are immediately greeted by a big smile and the smell of heavenly pizza. If you're here to grab a bite, take home a tray, or sit down with that special someone you will find it here. The music, atmosphere, and amazing staff will take care of everything. Oh and not to mention everything is incredibly clean. This place is off the main drag but for a good reason! Mary Lou herself still works the oven with her sons and grandsons and shares the building with some of her family's own businesses. The classic red pizza was excellent! We got it with meatballs and it had the right amount of topping ratio and plenty to share. We also wanted to try a white pizza - we got the double crust white pizza. VERY CHEESEY and excellent when fresh. Have heard good things, they have good ratings, and was in the area so ordered a meatball pizza to go. The place was cute. Honestly, I was so disappointed in the pizza. The flavor and quantity of toppings were good but the crust was too crunchy and too dry, it wasn't even physically enjoyable to eat. Absolutely the best, and there's a lot of great pizza places in Old Forge. None can hold a candle to Mary Lou's! Plus they're BYOB, so bring a nice Chianti with you and enjoy!!! Plus they have grab and go pasta, sauces, and meatballs. I gave 5 stars because I can't give more!!! read more

Pizza is delicious- really fresh ingredients! This is the least greasiest pizza I've ever encountered. Restaurant is small, but very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommend! Also great for takeout! read more

I went here for the first time the other day. I'm glad I did. I had the white pizza and of course the classic red pizza. The white was very good but very heavy because of all the cheese. The red was excellent and will be my main choice going forward. Also the employees here are very friendly and the place was very clean and well kept. I highly recommend this establishment read more

I grew up in Northeastern PA, but currently live in Florida. When I visit PA, pizza is a must--usually multiple times! This was the first time I've had Mary Lou's and it was delicious! We had the white pizza and red pizza. Both were exactly what I expect from Old Forge pizza. It was takeout so I can't comment about staff, location, etc. I will definitely eat here if I get a chance next time I visit PA. read more

Ran out of round pizza shells by 3:30, ordered a square red instead with peppers. It was crunchy to the point where I thought it was burnt until I checked underneath and the peppers were near non-existent. Pretty disappointing for the price. read more

The year was 2015. I had just started dating my now wife who is from the Scranton area and, knowing I am a pizza lover, she brought me to Old Forge and said "This is the pizza capitol of the world! Old Forge pizza is the best!"... she took me to some place that was not Mary Lou's and I've gotta be honest... I was not impressed. Flash forward to 2021. Our relationship (barely)survived me thinking she had poor taste in pizza. We came home to Scranton and her uncle brought home a tray(for the sake of all that is good and sacred don't call them pies in Scranton) of Mary Lou's white pizza and after much convincing I tried it out... I've never been so happy to be wrong. Mary Lou's white pizza may very well be some of the best pizza in the world, and I'm a pizza snob. We've also had their take and bake manicotti and it is delicious. 100% would recommend Mary Lou's to any true pizza lover out there. Tried this place out because it's well-known and I've read that this place is one of the best pizza places in the pizza capital of the world (old forge). I had no idea what the slices/cuts would look like so we ordered one cut each. If I had known it was smaller than the average NY slice, I would have ordered 2. It was a bit too crunchy for my taste. We were visiting the area and knew we had to try the old forge style pizza. We were thrilled with Mary Lou's. It is located on a side street with lots of street parking around. We were greeted and order taken. As we waited my daughter needed to use the restroom and they are happy to accommodate us. Mary Lou was making fresh ravioli, told us they were expanding to include places to sit and was very sweet. We were very pleased with the pizza, crunchy crust, freshy made sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. The sausage rolls made with hot sausage were also delicious. We would definitely visit again. The most delicious white pizza I've ever had. I can't recommend it enough. I actually drove two hours just to get a pie.

If you love pizza, don't miss Mary Lou's Pizza. It's fresh, has awesome crust and is cooked to perfection-nice crunch! You can take it out or dine in their immaculate, cozy, welcoming restaurant. They have other items on the menu, as well as some frozen gnocchi, ravioli, manicotti and sauce to take home. There was even some homemade pasta for sale. We visited here on a recommendation from a sommelier at a Clark's Summit restaurant when we were visiting the Scranton area. Wow! He was right. Dough is made daily and it has flavor . Takes me back to the days of my grandmother's pizza . For a good pizza you can NOT skimp on the quality of tomatoes and Mary Lou's certainly doesn't. I gave MaryLou's a top rating until Good Friday when I ordered a take out pizza ,now let me be clear their pizza is really good and I would go back but if they ever substitute someone else pizza for theirs like they did that day I will never go back I don't care how busy they are they should not pass someone else's for theirs ,I threw it in the garbage and to top it off I hate American Cheese on pizza,I only buy pizza with Mozzarella cheese on it and made with fresh dough not par-baked crust like the one they gave me,I will check it before I leave the restaurant any more. read more
