Finally got try here for a change, since I drive by a lot with work and it's always packed no time to try. Wish they kept the physical menu board like I saw old pics rather than a QR code. To their credit they have a lot of flavors here both basics and creatively interesting, only my local place closer to me is only similar case of trying to go outside the box. I think the best way to describe Mary Jane's is "small town soft serve." My friend overhyped this as "the best soft serve in the entire country" and I think that led to a somewhat disappointing result. Don't get me wrong, the soft serve is good. They make the soft serve with a 10% butterfat mix produced in New York State. This probably contributes to the creamy/fresh taste of the ice cream. That being said, when you smother it with rainbow sprinkles, it just tastes like above-average soft serve. Prices are low - It's about $2 for a small and they give you a nice portion size. But it's kind of off the side of the highway and I wouldn't drive more than 30 minutes out of my way for it. read more

Stopped here on a whim and there was a fairly lengthy line, even for a chilly evening at the end of September. They have a dizzying array of options (homemade hard ice cream, smoothies, cakes, etc.) but my kiddos were only interested in soft serve. Best ice cream in the area! There's always a lot of help so the lines move pretty fast. Plenty of parking.

Definitely one of the Premier spots to get a cone in the summer in the Hudson Valley. Admittedly there is a line in the evenings so be prepared to have about a 10-minute wait but there's plenty of parking and seating as well. If you happen to bring your dog and order a cone the dress it up with Milk Bones which I thought was very sweet. They do have a Facebook page that advertises their specials of the day like to thin mint ice cream or whatever they dream up when Girl Scout cookies are in season. I ordered a chicken sandwich with lettuce tomatoes and onion and receive a chicken tender sandwich with no lettuce no tomato and I don't know what the hell this is called onions it looks like little Pieces of something. Once I decided to eat sandwich half the bun fell apart part soggy wet and for $12 this was not worth it's worth the sandwich or The Onion rings that I ordered as well I got 4 pieces of onion rings . We saw this place on the way to a nearby orchard. We had to make a mental note to check it out on Yelp as soon as we could get service and consider going there after our time at the orchard. It really doesn't take much to convince me to get some ice cream (especially soft serve). I really love local ice cream spots and supporting small businesses. I got vanilla chocolate swirl soft serve in a cone with peanut butter dip shell (because I went during the fall, I unfortunately cannot remember the price but I think it was between $3-4 including the dip). I was excited that there was a peanut butter shell option because usually isn't many option for the flavor of dip, but they had 4-5 options, from my memory, which include: chocolate, peanut butter, a red one which I think is cherry and a blue one which I think is blue raspberry. I can only vouch for the peanut butter dip and I really enjoyed it with my ice cream. It really doesn't have a strong flavor, but if you're craving a dipped cone and love peanut butter I would consider trying the peanut butter dipped cone. I really cannot complain about any type of soft serve in general and I also really enjoyed the soft serve here as well. I can't say that it's the creamiest or most delicious soft serve that I have ever had, but it is a solid choice to curb your cravings! It was creamy and soft and not icy at all. We also had an order of french fries and although they did take a longer to get, but it was also worth the wait. It was thicker cut fries, freshly fried (although the oil that it was fried in tasted a little old) and nicely salted. It was very crispy and a good complement to cold creamy soft serve. The person who took our order was very friendly and made sure to check in on us to let us know that our fries would take a little longer. The black raspberry had actual raspberries in it, and it should come as no surprise the pistachio also had real pistachios. both were exceptional as well as the cone Itself. My family and I went here last weekend as it was their last Saturday open before closing for winter. As usual, the experiences was great. It was super clean, the servers were super helpful and polite and their products are super fresh. And...the variety of offerings is astounding. Between the four of us we had a Walnut Sundae (with velvety vanilla soft serve, wet nuts, whipped cream and a cherry; a Marshmallow Sundae with Toasted a Coconut; a slice of frozen Cheesecake on a stick dipped in chocolate and a cup of home made Apple Pie ice cream. I used to visit Mary Jane's more frequently in years past, when I had friends living locally. It was a treat to return, and I had forgotten just how good their hard ice cream is (though I also am very fond of their milkshakes). I think the price you pay is a bit higher than average (I paid $4.53 for a medium cone), but the amount of ice cream you get for that makes it worthwhile. And the hard ice cream remains creamy without being mushy. Their soft-serve is also quite good and popular, and I believe a bit less expensive, with lots of toppings. As far as their food, I can't see why you'd want to go to an equivalent chain for items prepared "the chain way," when you have options just as good and fresh here. read more

I honestly have to say, After seeing what the city had to offer, I had high expectations for the rest of New York. Trying to settle in to this area hasn't been easy when every place that is recommended to me hasn't really met my expectations. Mary Jane's is right off one of the main roads, they have a few little outside benches to enjoy your ice cream on a hot summer day. They have what is called down here "hard" ice cream and a soft serve. I purchased the "hard" which I am assuming is just the term they use because they scoop it out of a container instead of it coming from a machine. so the texture is a bit different. but I purchased Cherry Vanilla and Rum Raisin... I have to say they were just O K, I didn't find it to be anything special and they seemed to be missing something. for example Id but a spoon full in my mouth and it was full of flavor but then the next spoon full wasn't so flavorful almost as if the ice cream wasn't mixed well. i don't know, i guess I can try again.... read more

I grew up going here all the time..one of my family's favorites as a kid. So, its a huge disappointment now that new owners have completely ruined this place for us. After multiple order screw ups, there has never been an offer to rectify the situation, or even an attempt at a sincere apology. Last mistake, before today, was only about a month ago. We were approached with an accusatory and very defensive women (the owner), who refused to take responsibility for her errors. At that point, we insisted on receiving a free 8 in. cake for a future order. Today, we were told not to place orders with them anymore after once again having an issue with the owner. We placed an order for 2 cake rolls a week ago and were told we could pick them up as early as 10 am, before they open at 11. We showed up today around 12 to bring them to a party, only to be informed that the owner had not made it in to make the cakes and they would not be ready for another 2 hrs! The server was very polite and informed us that this happens ALL OF THE TIME! She lives in the back of the parking lot sooo, I'm not sure why it should be a problem to simply walk over and fill the orders in a timely manner. People tend to place such orders for events. The orders not being prepared at agreed upon time of pick-up, therefore, causes an issue! So, rather than apologizing and gladly giving us the order for free, we were told that she was offended that we did not like the cake she had made for us a month prior (it was lovely, if it was the cake that we had actually ordered!) and now had an issue with them again (yes! our order was not even made!) so she gave us the 2 sloppily prepared, badly cracked, cakes at no cost, telling us that was in replacement of the originally promised 8 in. cake. And to top it off, we are no longer welcomed to place any further orders with them! Who runs a business like that! Sad, but we will gladly no longer be giving them any of our business after 35+ years. Horrible. read more

This place is your typical, roadside ice cream and burgers/fries joint. My husband and I stopped here with our daughter in August 2015, and got some small twist soft serve, chili cheese hot dogs and fries. The entire meal was pretty good and I have no complaints about that - the wait was pretty long but unless you want old, stale fries and food, you have to live with them making the food fresh (and a long wait time). I've heard their cakes and such are delicious - just wish they have a better seating area away from the road. read more
