I went back to Sonic after avoiding it for years. I downloaded the app and ordered through it. The app forces to to respond to ads, donation and tip requests. It was very sketchy. You'd never see McDonalds do this. I ordered a double sonic smasher, got free tots in the app and a strawberry lime aid. The tots were like anything you'd make from frozen at home. The drink was fine. The burger was a mess. The pickles were just thrown in the box, as if they forgot to put them on it before they put the top bun on. There was a pool of grease like I'd never seen with a fast food burger. I could tilt the box from side to side and get it to run. Most importantly, later that night and all the next day I was as sick as could be. I believe it was food poisoning. Lesson learned. Never again. read more

I was at the Newburgh restaurant once. I'm not surprised to see so many poor reviews for this location. The outside looked sad and depressing; like an abandoned amusement park. I can't review the food because I didn't eat there. What I can tell you is The "Chef" with the Tennessee drawl; Mike is his first name, is a fuckin' slob. He wears the same sweaty, greasy Sonic attire every day. He used to work up a sweat then go to work wearing that shirt. His oral hygiene is nonexistent. No dentist visits; no home care. The inside of his mouth is rotting and rotten. His breath smells worse than a dumpster and could empty your stomach in a second. He should be wearing a mask. So I have been to this location a number of times this year and I have to say they have greatly improved - especially breakfast. There is one worker there in the morning (sad I don't know her name) but she always has a smile, is always pleasant and always gets my order right and she cares! The last three times I ordered breakfast it was amazing! The breakfast burritos were hot and fresh as well as the tater tots. My iced coffee was delicious. Worst Sonic experience ever! Our order for 4 persons was not complicated. However, we got back to our hotel and...for starters, what was supposed to be cheese tots, instead was a congealed mass of chili-soaked tots, jammed at one end of the foil pouch. Sorry, no pictures, just a true review. The food is good if they get your order right. So far the last 4 visits here I didn't get what I ordered. Tonight no different, even after being asked "which hot dog, the foot long?" I replied " no, the premium beef smaller hot dog." 3 minutes later I got a foot long all pork hot dog. It's every time I come here. Sometimes I think it's deliberate. I once ordered a peanut butter cup Sonic Blast. When I got to the window they handed me a large vanilla ice cream in a cup. I said, " no, I ordered a PB cup Blast". She said "that's what it is ". I told her there's not a spec of candy. She said I just couldn't see it because it's buried. So I dug the spoon in and showed her and asked to see the manager. He came over and defended the employee and handed me a cup of peanut butter cups. WTF?!! Took 6 months to go back for more punishment, but I did. (Because the food is good). And to correct your order is another fiasco that involves holding up the line while they make another attempt at your food. Anyone else ever experience this here?? Please chime in. I knew I should've never decided to get a quick snack here. I ordered a kids ' piece of chicken strips with tater tots and a side of onion rings. The chicken strips were okay, mainly because they were hot. The tater tots taste like I had them in my freezer past the recommended time and then baked them-- disgusting. What disgusted me was the cake-like flavor of onion rings!!! Who makes onion rings batter sweet?! Sonic does! At first, I thought it was me, so when I got home, I slightly reheated it and tried again. It is still nasty and cake-like. I ordered a philly cheese stake the meat was old and cold had to toss it. I ordered an oreo chocolate shake with peanut butter candy , cookie dough. I received with cookie dough and when trying to clarify the lady just got upset and shut the little window then opens it and said next time say it at the speaker and shuts the window rudely. There are no customer service skills in this place. I have yet to see someone with a smile and say thank you or sorry. Have a good day. Even when I say thank you they close the window. Although I initially learned about this location on a whim from my brother months ago (after learning that there was only a Sonic in Middletown till it was revealed that there was one here as well), when we came in yesterday on a whim (because we had stopped in at our local McDonalds way too often this week), I initially checked in, and upon receiving a Yelp coupon for one free large slushie which was to be shown to one of the employees for redemption when we pulled up into the parking spot (to the left of the stall without the drive-up boards (where the one employee was parking) and because my mom has some accessibility issues making it harder to use a standard area, we got her up the one step - though I saw the handicapped area - we used the boards and upon looking read for our choices. Upon looking at the boards, I couldn't make out what I wanted, and definitely wasn't looking for what slushies they had. The last time I was at a Sonic before this trip - was a long time ago - and I made mention of it when I and my brother were placing the order near the tables outside. (We initially used the machine adjacent to the side containing your drive-thru window.) The employee was nice, and even when I had to place my order - not knowing exactly what I wanted - the employee stayed on the line, an employee came out and asked about the coupon (the coupon said they might), when I found the list of flavors I "placed" the flavor with the employee and when the register clerk also heard me, I knew it was all good. I had the 3 piece chicken tenders (they tried to push the meal deal, but we declined it and they obliged) and although I had 4 pieces in the package (a slight mistake, though it worked to my advantage), I could honestly say I was pleased with that outcome. My brother got a burger and tater tot package (of which one fell out and I later ate) and my mother followed suit with a 6 piece tender. The chicken tenders weren't too warm, but they were still edible, even eaten outside. If I hadn't known Sonic's style, this probably would've been my last visit. When my brother went up and ordered an ice cream sundae, I felt I needed to order something else by myself. He had mentioned how the website said it's in New Windsor, yet the receipt said it's technically in Newburgh (it's in the same parking lot as the Walmart in Newburgh too). It's not in New Windsor, and GPS systems will tell you frankly no address in New Windsor exists. I ordered a small Butterfinger blast, however used the board on the opposite side. I knew the process, and when I stuck my card in (it's a contactless card without metal numbers from my bank), the reader stopped my card from going in and I later ended up giving the employee the card to enter through inside. I wasn't liking the slushie. I had had slushies before and knew I had gotten brain freeze often, and this one was the worst brain freezes ever. It was too sweet, and the ratio of ice to flavor mixture to water really took a toll and I just couldn't stand the overwhelming taste by the time I got halfway down the cup, that by 3/4 down I ended up throwing it out in a trashcan. I finished the Blast, and actually felt amused by it. I had had some of their ice creams in the past, but years ago I didn't like them because they were too milky. If it wasn't for the mixture of Butterfinger pieces to ice cream not being enough Butterfinger, I probably would've enjoyed it more - but was able to finish that. I wish I would've had a better time at your location for a first-time visit. I don't think it'll be my last time, but I will take a guess it'll be some time until my next time in because I"m coming from the northern-most town in northwest Dutchess Co (a little more than an hour away). Where people are saying that this place is bad - so much so that most say they are rude or not right - I don't know. It's pretty grim, but I wasn't seeing rudeness from staff when I appeared yesterday. There's definitely much room for improvement (the reason for my 3 star-rating), but I really can't put my finger on my feelings for yesterday's experience at this location. (God, I wish my more-local Kingston Sonic was still in existence as of this date.) read more

Through out my travels. I have been to quite a few sonics. The sonic locations in the south tend to be better than the ones up north in my personal opinion. This location in Newburgh. Truly is hit or miss. The one thing that is consistent is this sonic offers a lot of check in offers. Currently they offer a free slushy with check in! I have never had a issue with the food except it takes a really long time for it to come out. The biggest issue with this location is after 8 pm they offer half price icecream shakes and drinks. If you come after 8. You are going to be waiting a long time. Even if you are just ordering a shake. A few days ago I came to this sonic. There was 8 cars in the drive thru line. I said ok I'm just getting a shake the line will move quick. Well the line took forever. I was in no rush. Had no were to be but... Man that line was slow. Like I said I had no place to be I just wanted a shake but 15-20 mins in a drive thru line. I should have left. When I got up to the window. I only saw 4 people 2 of them were working the grill. 1 was on roller skates the other was working the drive thru. I asked why it took so long and the kid just said I'm sorry that took so long. He never gave a answer. But I'm assuming it's because of staffing. Overall. This sonic. Is a good choice. Just keep in mind that the location is hit or miss. To start off with this review i'd like to say i am astonished at the behavior of the server i had today. she wore black crocs and light washed jeans and accessorized with a bad attitude! moping around the sonic parking lot like she wanted someone dead. when she took my order (i am a first time sonic customer and most definitely a last time sonic customer) she had no patience. She was incredibly rude it took me some time to read the menu and she gave me an attitude while i ordered as if i was making her life harder, meanwhile she made my life harder by messing up my order. what i ordered was 37.8% incorrect. she came up to the window handed us our food (didn't say enjoy, have a nice day) not that that is necessary but this lady had no redeemable qualities. i hope ur staff can learn to train ur workers better to make other visits better for the future read more

Went for a ride yesterday to check out the first Sonic in Orange County! Woot woot, we're really moving up in the world. First of all the location, it's basically in the Wal-Mart parking lot right off of Rt. 300, so you go get yourself some new clothes then stroll across the parking lot and pick up a Sonic burger. It was a pretty shitty day (weather wise) so we thought the line wouldn't be too bad, it was about 10 cars deep (for a stall) and it moved pretty quickly. It's the same as every other Sonic in this country so I'll spare you the details on the food. Their beverage selection is where it is at. The shakes, limeades and the such are really, really good. Anyway, it's def worth a trip if your in the area and especially if you've never experienced Sonic! read more

Worst Sonic experience ever. First of all, who answers the intercom "Can I help you"? No "thank you for choosing Sonic" or anything. That, in and of itself, doesn't matter. It took me 17 minutes to get a lemon water. 17 minutes! It's water. With a lemon. I pushed the button and waited. And waited. Then had to call back in to get the lemons for said lemon water. 17 minutes is too long to wait for a cup of water I don't care where you are. And how do you screw up lemon water? There's 2 ingredients. Only thing that would have made this worse is if they had just brought me lemons in a cup. So I made the mistake of giving this place another chance the following day. I ordered 2 Chicago dogs with no mustard, and a drink. Again, took forever. Chicago dogs were on regular buns. Poppy seeds aren't that big a deal. Some would argue they are only for looks anyway. It's the principle of the matter. If you are unable to make a customers order the way it is supposed to be, you should tell them up front. This is probably the worst of all Sonics. I've been there at least 10 times and is hard to remember one time where nothing went wrong. Rude, careless attendants, the drive thru is either abandoned or the line will take you close to 30 minutes to get your food. Then, you are up for the really good surprise...your order is either wrong or is made so disgusting that you can't eat. The first time Ive ever been to a Sonic was 2 weeks ago when I arrived in Newburgh for a work trip, and I have stopped here quite a few more times. The service is fantastic, the carhops are very friendly and I know I personally would fall flat on my face delivering food to people on roller skates :). Ive mainly been here for slushies and milkshakes but I have ordered a burger and some onion rings, the drinks are so yummy as was the burger. Sonic management needs to step in before this place is forced to close! Middletown Sonic is ok - Newburgh not so much! Went here 2 times in the last 2 weeks for DRINKS ONLY...keep that in mind. Went on a Friday night for dessert- half price shakes. We pull into a parking slot and there is a kid in his Sonic uniform smoking weed right at the front door on the patio- as soon as I put my window down my wife and I got hit with the smell and my kids asked what that was! Way unprofessional - if you have to do it walk in to the woods or another lot- not in your patio with 10 cars full of costumers by you! We get our order ready and when I press the button the kid says - "drive through only we closed" Good thing we got in line because all the other cars soon followed suit. We waited 20 minutes at the window for 3 shakes and a soda. Left figuring it was a bad night- and a few were obviously high. When we got our stuff we couldn't tell what was what- mostly because all the shake toppings were in the bottom and the milk and ice cream on top- they did not actually "shake" the milkshakes ! again- maybe too stoned to realize you need to mix the shakes. Went back Saturday 4/9 for drinks again- this time at 130 in the afternoon. I order 3 sodas and 2 corn dogs- wait about 15 minutes in line and pull up- girl takes my $ and hands me the 2 corn dogs and walks away. We sit and sit and she comes back and says have a good day and closed the window again- so we sit and sit and when she comes back I asked for my sodas- she goes away and comes back 3/4 minutes later and asks what sodas? I give her my receipt and she comes back a few more minutes later and hands me soaking wet cups of soda- I wipe them off and the other girl says sorry we are swamped and its only us 2 and 1 car hop- the place was packed- almost all car spots full and 9 cars in the drive through - so add together understaffed with young kids and you have another business waiting to go under. read more

I've never been to this sonic before and the service was pretty fast. We took over half the Sonic with like 10 motorcycles and they served us well. I mean whatever its not easy serving food on skates but they make the best of it. The food took a while and my friend was missing a spoon for one of his meals after the dude insisted it was there but it was not. The boom box was on point and filled me up and the burger was actually really good. I will be stopping at the next Sonic I see for sure. Those hotdogs were damn good.
