Moonburger has multiple locations in the area. This Poughkeepsie location is within a gas station. The New Paltz location is in downtown and has a small narrow counter. And the Kingston location is takeout drive-through only. So the Poughkeepsie is the best one if you want to be able to eat inside. They have great gluten free and vegan option. Even the brownie milkshake is gluten free. And if you don't need to worry about gluten free or vegan, the regular burgers are great. read more

After passing this unique spot along Route 9 hundred of times finally when to see what they are all about. Simple menu burgers meat and vegan Pattie's fries and some shakes. They make the most with the space they have. Cool video screen draws you in and I was greeted warmly from the staff. I loved the original Moonburger in Kingston and was going to go out of my way to grab some on our weekend trip but found out they opened a few more locations. The one in Poughkeepsie was on our way home so we stopped at this one. It is inside a gas station and since we don't like to eat in the car, we went to dine in. As it was inside a gas station, there wasn't much seating but there is 4 seats at bar-like ledge and seating by the "spaceship window" which plays a video and was super cute. We ordered two big combos with impossible burgers on their machine (one with regular fries and apple juice and one with hot fries and lemonade and without griddle onions). Order came out just as ordered. Worker explained that the apple juice was technically a kids box but gave us 3 because we ordered the big combo and were obviously not kids so one juice box wouldn't have been enough. Everyone was super nice here. The worker actually came by and explained that he didn't think the fries were up to par and gave us another set that was definitely better. I mainly come because I love their hot fries and they definitely didn't disappoint. Highly recommend and will definitely come back. read more

Nice little joint tucked into the corner of a gas station. Be prepared to wait a while, but the burgers I received made it all well worth it! Juicy patties bigger than the buns and very flavorful. I do not mind the grease at all! Spicy fries were nothing special, diet Wingstop seasoning. The single leaf of lettuce added nothing and was dragging the burger apart when biting into it, but it's not a big deal. It is expensive, and I came because of an amazing deal and will be back any time they have it. I recommend visiting, just a step below 5 Guys but better than a fast food chain. We were driving by and my husband pointed out the bright red sign. I was ecstatic because he knows how much I love Moonburger. He also knows that I usually only indulge on the occasional trip to Kingston, where I first fell in love with this business. I went through the drive thru because I had a very sleepy baby in the back and ordered WAY too much food. I love how delicious Moonburgers are especially since they're impossible patties! They also offer gluten free buns, which means that I can indulge in a true burger experience. They have tasty hot fries that you can pair with their yummy cheese sauce and to me, it's the perfect meal. The drive thru is painted in a very colorful mural but I was so intrigued by it, I forgot to snap a pic. You never see bright art like this at a gas station (which is where Moonburger is located). Next time I'll have to go inside because I'd love to see what it looks like. The staff was also super friendly and the food was ready very quickly. The drive-through entrance is to the right of the mobile station. The sign is really not that large and very easy to miss. One has to know that Moon burger has a location there. I was not familiar with Moonburger and I'm not sure if it's a Regional or NATIONAL chain but I decided to give it a try. MENU: the menu is very small, which is probably a good thing in many ways. There are four or five different types of burgers, most with onions so my request was a special one. Essentially, you can get a single or double burger with cheese, pickles, onions, and crispy, onions, lettuce, and special sauce. Given my allergy, I had to opt out of the onions and special sauce. I opted in for regular fries, but there was an option for seasoned fries. The beef itself was an odd texture. I'm not sure if it was made from fresh ground beef or not. It was really difficult to tell. For example, at five guys, you get the feeling of a fresh burger and super fresh fries. Dollar for dollar, five runs laps around Moon Burger. Small or large version which included a beverage. SERVICE: the service was pleasant and patient, but this is not fast food. You will wait for your order. VALUE: at nearly $14, next time I'll drive through Wendy's. I am sure if you like fried onions and some of the other fixings, it may be worthwhile to you, but I just wasn't that impressed. read more

I've been a Moonburger regular since they opened but I think I just ate my last one. The first few years at their Kingston location were top notch. The impossible burger is delicious, the sauce was just the right amount, and the lettuce, pickles and onions stacked perfectly. The last year or so it's been pretty sloppy. A mess to eat. So much sauce the bun is immediately soggy. And completely inconsistent. I've noticed the staff is always different. I rarely see the same people twice. Today they left one of the burgers out of the bag. I went to the pick up window to inform them and the cook immediately went to make it for me. He came back within 3 minutes or so. The wrapper was already soggy. I opened the wrapper to a burger so "smashed" it was twice the size of the bun and chunks of it started falling off as I picked it up. The impossible meat was almost gray. There was so much sauce on it the bun was mushy. I ate a few bites of it but it kept falling apart. He clearly made it quickly but fulfill my order and I appreciate the speed but it ended up being really unappetizing. The fries are always good and the cheese sauce is fantastic. But it's gone a bit downhill in my experience and sadly think Burger King makes a more consistent Impossible Whopper. read more

I can't believe the horrendous service I received at Moonburger, I went there in may 2024 and it was my first time going there. It took them a whopping 30 MINUTES to make FRIES and a COKE!!! And then they had the nerve to charge me $15 for it! Are you kidding me? The fries were unsalted and practically RAW!!! Absolutely unacceptable! The service is absolutely atrocious. Stop taking yourselves so seriously when you're in the back of a gas station. Online orders can't be picked up at the drive through? What even is that. Literally every other location that accepts online orders allows you to pick up at the drive through. It was 3:00 on a Monday. There was no line but the parking spots were taken up by large trucks. I pulled around to get my meal from the drive through, not thinking anything of it, and was told, in the most condescending way, that wasn't allowed. So I circled the lot until the trucks finished and went inside to get a cold, soggy burger when not a soul entered the drive through the entire time. My email said to pick up between 3:30 and 3:35 (about 25 minutes after placing it) which is when I arrived. This place, as well as the one in New Paltz, has been a horrible experience, on all levels, from service, to food. I gave them a chance. Now I will never go back. There is only one food item I considered worth going back for, and that was the strawberry shortcake milkshake. I went to the location in New Paltz soon after it appeared last year sometime. The burger uses Impossible meat and is not something I would buy regularly when I make my own burgers at home, due to the heme ingredient. That aside, the burger was made bland with basically just a burger and a bun, with melted slice of vegan cheese. Totally not impressed. I did not see many options for additionally ingredients but have learned since they do have more, you just have to ask. Even with that, the burger is just barely acceptable. The fries are like Burger King, which are technically vegan. They were ok. The strawberry milkshake is very good, when made as I want, which is with whipped vegan cream on top. The problem I really started to have is with the Poughkeepsie location. I was told this was due to "new location" opening, etc. Weeks ago, a few weeks after they opened, on April 23rd, 2024, I went to the Poughkeepsie location through the drive-thru and got the same thing I had gotten last year in New Paltz. Except this time, I got the double cheeseburger. The burger was horrible, and did not even seem like impossible meat burger, as it was falling apart on the edges, sticking out of the bun quite far. The excellent strawberry milkshake with vegan whipped cream on top was the only thing I liked. It had a rounded lid to make room for the cream on top with a hole for the straw. The burger was hardly acceptable, and the fries were ok. Total cost was just a bit more than $25.00! Then in early May this year, only weeks ago, I went to the Poughkeepsie location and asked for the Strawberry shake. They were out I was told. So, I got the brownie shake, and they had no whipped cream I was told! Disappointed! About one week later I went back to the drive-in Poughkeepsie location again and again they were out of the strawberry shake! A few days later I called and asked, "do you have the strawberry shake?". "Yes", I was told. So, I drove there again and there were not cars in front of me, so I expected to be waited on immediately. NOPE! I had to wait for minutes while the woman on the mic was talking to someone else about a different order. ANNOYING! Finally, I was asked what I wanted, and I said I just want the strawberry shake with whipped cream. WE HAVE NO MORE WHIPPED CREAM! I said "OK, I will come back another time" and I pulled forward to leave but there was a car around the corner at the window blocking me, so I pulled backwards and turned around and left! UPSET! A few days later I called and this time the manager talked to me and told me they have no whipped cream! She tried to explain, and I heard a few different stories, all of which did not ring true with me. I did not go and saved myself a trip. Today I went to the location in New Paltz. I first asked the girl behind the register, "so you have strawberry shake and whipped cream?"... "YES" she said! I ordered a cheeseburger, fried and that strawberry shortcake milkshake with WHIPPED CREAM on top! When my order was done, I looked and saw the shake with a flat lid and no whipped cream! The manager lady there told me they don't have any whipped cream. I said, "but the girl here (who was right in front of me) said you did have some!" The manager lady explained they do have whipped cream but ran out of the special dome shaped lids they put on top to make room for the cream. I was not offered a extra cup of something to hold the cream on the side. I took my order and left in total frustration and the feeling that I will never be back to any of these locations. It's amazing these places are still in business, with subpar burgers, and with their only saving grace, a great strawberry milkshake with whipped cream on top, that they are clearly fumbling the ball with. read more

Id hope it is but this is not the Place to got for a DoorDash maybe in person so if they mess up you can get a refund in person. Putting a quality restaurant in a gas station is a tough order, so I give them the benefit of an extra star for the attempt. I loved the original Kingston location and the one in New Paltz. The drive thru here gives the impression of fast food but is a bit slower paced. The shakes are dang good especially if they haven't run out of whipped topping. The burger is pretty good for being vegan smash burger (a fact that some reviews have completely missed). I'd like to see an impossible quarter pounder paddy on the menu in the future. Hands down the worst part is the fries, which seem freeze dried and lukewarm. Plus the hot fries are just too hot (and I love spice!). This Moonburger is unlike any other fast food place I've ever seen. It is truly magical. The atmosphere, the food, and absolutely everything was to perfection. The absolute sweetest girl named Gigi was working the register and she was fantastic!! She was so kind, patient, and extremely helpful. That's not something I'm used to when talking to cashiers they normally feel like they just want me to get away from them but communicating with her was like a breath of fresh air. I wish every place with cashiers had a Gigi. Stop by because just the amazing service alone would make me want to go back even if the food was bad (which it's far from).
