For starters, we tried the Seared Catch triple-tail small plate which was excellent and the Vegetable Risotto salad, which was hearty, yet light. For mains we tried Grilled Key West Pink Shrimp because I wanted to try local catch. It was very good, served on top of creamy grits with Manchego cheese. We also tried the Crispy Mojo Chicken, which was good. Our server was very good. Three people in our party brought in freshly caught fish for the restaurant to prepare, which is something they advertise as an option in Key West. We specifically requested the fish blackened and grilled, but it came out blackened and fried instead. Our waitress was new and clearly struggling with the ordering process. Rather than acknowledging that she was unfamiliar with the fish preparation options and asking a team member for help, she argued with our group about the available choices. We understand that new employees need time to learn, and we would have been completely understanding if she had simply communicated that she needed assistance. The restaurant also failed to communicate that large parties were limited to a maximum of four checks. When it came time to pay, orders had been incorrectly assigned to different checks, creating even more confusion and delays as everything had to be rearranged. Unfortunately, the worst part of the experience was our interaction with the manager, Pat. He was incredibly rude to both our waitress and me. He insisted that an additional drink had been served when it had not. Although he eventually removed the charge, he did so with an attitude rather than handling the situation professionally and respectfully. At no point did we receive a genuine apology for the mix-ups, the incorrect food preparation, the confusion, or the excessive wait. From ordering drinks to receiving our food and finally paying the bill, the entire experience took nearly three hours. Mistakes can happen, and we are understanding of the fact that employees may be new. What is unacceptable is the lack of communication, organization, accountability, and basic customer service from management. The food on the regular menu was good, which makes the experience all the more disappointing. However, buyer beware if you plan to bring your freshly caught fish or dine with a large group. Make sure you understand the restaurant's policies beforehand and be prepared for potential delays. Management sets the tone for the entire establishment. Instead of blaming customers or treating them rudely when problems arise, management should take responsibility, communicate clearly, and make an effort to resolve issues with kindness and professionalism. Based on our experience, this restaurant has significant room for improvement in those areas.
