First time visitor yesterday to their establishment. I ordered a prime rib dinner which was good. I Ordered broccoli and mashed potatoes for sides which were iced cold. So cold I had the manger come by and asked her to feel my food after I told her I will not be eating them regardless. She Agreed with me that it was cold. She did offer to replace them but I apologized for not wanting more because they were as cold as they came out the refrigerator and attempted to be microwaved. I am not one to want money off my bill but I do have a hard time spending $100 and leaving hungry. But I did expect to be compensated in some sort of way without having to ask. Eventually I speak with the manager before I payed my bill and now she insisted my sides were Luke warm when she originally agreed with me about how cold they were when she felt my food. She offered me 5 dollars off which was insulting. I payed my bill gave the waitress a good tip. But I am very upset with how this was handled and her response to my cold meal was not appreciated. This review is based off my dinner at Martha's. To set the scene it was a beautiful summer evening in downtown Nashua. Walking by the restaurant the front patio was packed with folks enjoying some microbrews and food. We found a round table outdoors and sat down (patio is seat yourself). Our waitress, Sarah, was quick to attend to our table. She offered us several samples of beer and returned with them quickly. I tried the Summah Bock, De Stevige and The Garde-ian. Summah Bock had great flavors, other beers not as much. I was glad I sampled or I might not have been as happy with my choice. It was a perfect beer for sitting out on the patio but next time I come back I'd like to try their stout. We started off with the fried calamari which was good, the sweet and spicy sauce was great. Next to our main meals. I decided on the black jack salmon which was very well done. Perfectly cooked blackened salmon still medium rare on inside with crispy outside. Also had shrimp and scallops in a light red sauce with sun dried tomatoes mixed in. Serving size was large however I was a pit surprised the meal wasn't served over rice or some sort of carbohydrate. Not a big deal though the fish was enough to fill me up. Other entrees ordered at the table - Thai chicken, ginger salmon and lobster crown fillet. They all looked well made and everyone was happy with their choice. My family really enjoyed our time on the patio. Sarah did an excellent job serving us, especially considering we were outside and every little task takes a bit longer. Also, it's worth mentioning that I did not enter the restaurant at all so I could not evaluate the ambiance or cleanliness of the interior. Martha's Exchange has great pub food and drinks. I like their Pulled Pork Quesadilla, California Burger and Acapulco Seafood Plate and their selection of home brews. This review is based on a true story which happened recently. After a late Saturday night dinner at SFK, my buddy and I dropped into Martha's Exchange. 11:30 PM: We arrive at Martha's Exchange with IDs checked and no cover charge. The dining room was converted into a dance floor with DJ, playing dance, techno, reggaeton, hip-hop, and old school. The crowds were beginning to come out on the floor. 11:35 PM: We hang out at the left side of the bar. My buddy already had several drinks (I lost count) beforehand. So, he orders a pint of Oktoberfest Lager and I have a Diet Coke since I was the DD. 11:55 PM: We move to the other side of the bar near the DJ so we could have a better view of dance floor action. My buddy orders a Tanquerey & Tonic and we enjoy loud music and dancing moves. 12:15 AM: My buddy orders a Captain Morgan & Coke for himself and a Diet Coke for me. 12:35 AM: My buddy orders 2 Captain Morgan & Cokes and a Diet Coke for me. 12:40 AM: My buddy is half way through his first CM&C, he shows signs of intoxication with his head bowed down and his eyes shut tight with 2 Captain Morgan & Cokes in hand. 12:50 AM: Since the place had to close at 1:00 AM, the owner came around and asked him if he was alright and could get home. I spoke with the owner and we agreed that my buddy should not drink anymore and the owner tossed the 2 drinks away. By law, no one can be drinking alcohol in this establishment after 1:00 AM. 1:00 AM: Everyone starts to clear out and there are Liquor Enforcement Officers at the door, checking up on the place and making sure no one is drinking after 1:00 AM. I drove back to Manchester as my drunk buddy slept during the ride home. When I dropped him off, he stumbled out of the car and into his place and crashed on the stairs for the night. He was fine the next day with some buzzing action. We had some good laughs over some video games later in the day. read more

I used to come here in the eighty's. It was nice stopping in. The service was excellent! I got a coffee and clam chowder. The clam chowder was as good as the waitress said. Haven't been to Martha's in a few...didn't want Irish bar&grill tonight...try it! 1st issue is parking, used to park behind bldg but TDBank No Parking will tow??? So found public lot, short walk in the rAin. Ordered blackened salmon & beef tornados. Tasted great! Awesome proteins but sides??? No side veggie on salmon? Beef veggies were steamed market basket frozen mix???IMHO drinks: Moscow mule, please splash POM...We don't have pomegranate. served with 5 lime slices, brought it to bartender for a splash of cranberry to be able to drink it. Stout was awesome says hubby. Desserts worth it! Peanut butter cheesecake& lemon cake. Bought 5 items from Candy display.gr8 turtles. Restrooms ok. Weird faucets and glass bowl artwork for sink. So, interesting. Holiday weekend so give a break but $119 tab for 2 adults? No salad,soup,bread. No bar snacks like crackers cheese,thinking of "common man". read more

We drank Flandersish sour ale which is an Ale but has reminders of Hard Cider a very unique taste we also had McGanns London ale a mildly hoppy IPA For food we tried BBQ meatloaf & mussels with french fries, both the Meatloaf & The Mussels were above average but with no wow factor. The service was very good & pleasant. The whole place really had a strong Brewery smell, to the point of unpleasantness. I can hardly believe I'm writing this!!! read more

Enjoyed this cute little spot. Decor was nice but looked unkept in some spots (paint chipping in the bathroom, etc). Very nice otherwise! Sat in a booth, but the bar was fairly large and seemed to have a good selection of liquors. Grabbed some chowder and apps with my parents, and had one of their self-brewed beers. The PC IPA was delicious and smooth with a really mellow hoppy flavor. Aroma was great. Nice blonde-caramel color, a slight haze. Not a very large head. Really great overall. Cup of chowder - absolutely wonderful. Tried my fair share of chowders up here in NE and I've realized that some don't make the cut. This one was fairly thick (but more liquidy than some I've had), huge chunks of potatoes and clams, and had amazing flavoring. Fresh thyme I think. Definitely would order again. Ordered calamari - really great crisp and not a ton of breeding. Came with a sweet chili sauce which I wasn't a huge fan of - but that's just personal preference. Nothing was wrong with it. I just prefer a marinara/garlic type of sauce with my calamari. Also got the sweet potato wedges with brown sugar and maple aioli which was yummy but I was pretty full by then. Service was great, attentive but not hovering over us or rushing us. Gave recommendations and answered questions we had about food and drinks. They've got a lot of options on their food and drink menu (beer and cocktails) and overall reasonable prices. Will definitely be back again for dinner this time, with a bigger appetite. read more

Never having been to New Hampshire and visiting from Los Angeles, I was a little skeptical about spending New Year's here, but WOW. I could not be more impressed. The homebrew we sampled was delightful (I wish I could remember the names, but we got the spicier, hoppier ales... Winter something?). We intended to have a few drinks and get a table, but we were so comfortable and so taken by our amicable bartender gals that we ordered at the bar and got everything on the right side of the appetizer menu. Rare that a place delivers so well on food, drinks, service, price (our total was roughly $100, but we ordered pretty recklessly) and ambiance. Next time I'm in New England, I'll be back to Martha's. read more

But we were completely ignored after pointing out that our burgers were NOT cooked to order, not even CLOSE. I wish I had our waitresses name, but I dont. Great vibe & food! Opted for bar seating on a Friday evening for dinner & was pleased with the beer selection, service & food. Went with the cubano, which was too large for me (but is that ever a problem??). Fresh, hot Fries and the side of homemade ranch were delicious too! I was very impressed by Marthas Exchange - we were there early on a Saturday evening for dinner. The beer list had some interesting options, I tried the Tripel Triple IPA, my dad had the His Nibs, and some sort of Smokey porter. The IPA was extremely flavorful, surprisingly sweet, smooth and more drinkable than bitter. My dad was pleased with the smoothness of his choices. We started off with the Sweet potato wedges, which were very good and plenty for 3 people. I was pleased to find the Pineapple curried vegetable stack, a delicious veggie entre - It was a pile of portobello mushrooms, squash, peppers & eggplant with mozz cheese over mixed greens and crunchy noodles with a side of rice topped with a delicious, sweet, pineapple curry sauce. The mix of flavors was amazing. The veggies were fresh and there was a lot of them - I made 2 meals out of this entree (and it was still delicious the next day). I would order this dish again. My mom ordered a salmon dish (Grilled Sesame Ginger Salmon??) and received a very good sized piece of salmon - the sauce was flavorful and creative. My dad ordered bayou chicken with pasta and there was a ton of food. Once again, very flavorful. We were all impressed and pleased with our experience. Service was fast and friendly. Gotta say I really enjoyed Martha's Exchange tonight. It was a Friday and I was in town for a convention, staying at the nearby Hampton Inn. Martha's was recommended by the desk people, Paul and Kelly, as a place where the food, atmosphere and staff were excellent. They were right! The hostess seated me immediately and in a booth no less, as even though the bar side was hopping there was lots of space in the enormous double dining room. It was early and I was assured there would be a wait by 8 PM. Martha's Exchange is located in a gorgeous antique storefront on a busy main thoroughfare through the middle of town. It has the look and feel as if it used to be the local country store a hundred years ago. And if I understood right... It was! If you can get a front window seat it is kind of a nice Norman Rockwell view to watch the people going silently by outside. I did not notice ANY street noise inside the restaurant. They also have dining al fresco available. While we're out here... Parking is mainly on street and a little scarce at 6PM but the parking meters are off by 5 and so are most of the people who work in the vicinity, so there is a good deal of turnover. It took me a few minutes to find a spot and I endured frustrated Hampshirites who like to honk at out of state license plates while I negotiated a parallel park while dodging locals on a mission to get outta Dodge at rush hour. Back inside... As soon as I was seated my waitress Becky was at my side in a flash with a smile to light up a room. She never lost that smile the whole time I was there. That's the kind of person you want in a customer facing position... no matter what the business is. She recommended the Fish and Chip (since it WAS Friday) and was happy to deal with my picky food issues (no this, add that) and weird drink order (you don't want to know.) and once again, I was amazed by speed, in this case how fast the food was in front of me. My fish was precisely crispy on the outside, white and flaky in side and not a hint of grease. The fries were also crisp to a near snap, but not burned or hard, with a hint of (Kosher?) salt. Portions... plenty of everything. Including onion rings, but I cannot comment because I do not eat them... Same for Coleslaw and Tartar Sauce (ten foot pole, please! ) As she flitted back and forth, Becky maintained the perfect waitstaff balance... ever available but never intrusive. Hearing that I was in town traveling Becky made a point to invite me back later in the evening for their music presentation and to recommend other places I might enjoy per my expressed interests. She also was a wealth of knowledge about the building and area Martha's is in. Lots of historic value there. Pricing My whole meal came to under 20 bucks. (plus generous tip, of course! ) Martha's Exchange will definitely be on my menu any time I am near Nashua, NH around dinner time or after. read more

An update. Ordered the Carribbean Jerk Chicken again and was not dissappointed. It is currently my favorite dish they serve. However, wanted to complain about the dessert that was supposed to be like Kentucky Derby Pie. That name is trademarked so the name is similar but not exactly that. I'm particular about my KY Derby Pies as I'm a KY native. It should be a pecan pie with chocolate chips with a splash of KY bourbon served warm with either ice cream or whipped cream. It was served cold (Egads)! and even when warmed up, it did not even pass for a decent pecan pie, much less the branded KY pie. Yech on all counts. Would not be ordering that again. Ok, I admit to having eaten all of it, regardless. But, talk about the waste of calories! Please order something else and Martha's, plez take that off your menu. read more

Went here w/ a group from work- and it seems like a good place for smaller groups so that is a plus. We really enjoyed checking out the beer menu- very extensive and the flight is definitely he way to go if you want to get a good try of all the brews. I ordered a Pumpkinwiesen- which was a little off, very little pumpkin, and rimmed w/ sugar and cinnamon- not sure I'd recommend that for any beer. The food was respectable- I'd recommend the sweet potato wedges, I'd order those again. I was in the mood for something different so I ordered the Chicken Parm. It wasn't probably authentic Italian, but it was what I wanted and pretty darn good- ate it all, but left most the pasta. Other than the food - the atmosphere is a little weird. They have the brewery area and a GIGANTIC bar. And light fixtures that are just weird. There is a section in front by all the windows (where we sat) which is neat for watching people (if there are any in downtown Nashua that night) and I imagine nice in the summer, but it was very cold when we were there. Then there is another section to the left when you come in that is more like a normal restaurant- instead of a bar. it just seems odd and disjointed. read more

I have been here a couple of times with my family the Friday after thanksgiving and it is always good. This review is about their take out during quarantine. It was delicious. The chicken fingers and fries my boyfriend got were so yummy. I got their steak street tacos and a side of rice and wow were they amazing. Not a great dance place in my opinion. Still, go for the food and drinks. -old review- Great place to check out. Love the atmosphere, and the food is some of the best in the area. Beer selection is pretty good, but if you've been to a place like boston beerworks it's not too impressive. Buffalo wings were very good, nachos were good as well. I've tried the burgers, the homemade meatloaf (yum), and the chimis...all good. I've only tried the dinner, but have sat near the bar. So thankful to order from our favorite bar last night. So glad they decided to open during this crazy time. We were anxious to support the business and the people that work there. We always have date night here and what makes it special are the people there. They work very hard to know the customer and go out of their way to make it as enjoyable as possible. They're like family. (Yeah, we seem to have a lot of dates nights ). So, at our first chance we decided we'd order delivery and sit at the home bar and made it just like usual. Only thing missing were our favorite people to talk to. Somehow they knew our order and as usual went the extra mile knowing our preferences. Been coming here for a while now with hubby & sometimes the parents. Love the atmosphere. Love to sit outside in the nice weather. Do not like the waiter at all. He kept forgetting things we ordered, then disappeared forever when we needed a refill on our drinks. He then told us he was also the DJ. Well now it made sense. First experience here! We went on a Friday night. Ambiance was nice and casual first part of the night! The hostess received us with a nice welcome, and there was no wait at all. We ordered espresso martini and pumpkin spice martini! Absolutely perfectly made drinks. For food we ordered the jambalaya and a gyro. Again, deliciously made food! Perfect spice level for jambalaya. My wife and I ended up staying longer than anticipated because we were so into the food and drinks! Later half of the night (around 10pm onwards) it turns into a club scene Friday nights. DJ was playing great songs. Place started getting more crowded and they cleared the space for a dance floor! All in all, a great surprise find! Great food, music, and drinks! We picked this place thinking it was a nice afternoon to be outside. Well out umbrella knocked over our drinks because it was not secured. The service was terrible. Our server had 4 tables outside(where we were) and stopped by us every 20 min or so. I asked for 2 samples of beer and he responded by being shocked and questioning why I wanted to sample their beer. We ordered 3 drinks and a pizza, 2 drinks came out, then 20 min later our pizza and the 3rd drink! Very over priced for the quality/quantity. We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza. It had very little BBQ sauce. Loaded with cheese(which we did enjoy) comes with artichokes not really sure why they made that combo. I don't think we will be back there. read more

Martha's Exchange - New American Near Me - Nashua, New Hampshire

For a few years, I've been coming here every couple of months and around holidays to get drinks with friends. On Friday and Saturday nights, some of the dining room tables are cleared out so that Martha's can function exclusively as a bar, and as a bar, my experience here had been largely neutral. That changed a month ago when a large male employee (who appeared to have been drinking) shouted at, insulted, and got in the face of my female friend on the sidewalk for leaning against a flower planter. He was yelling at her for long enough and in such a convincingly threatening fashion that another employee felt the need to come pull him away. She was pretty startled by the experience, so she gave Martha's a call, only to have the same man answer, call her a bitch, and hang up the phone. So she called back the next morning. "The manager isn't in until 5, I'll see what I can do. Leave your number and they'll give you a call" No one ever called back, so I stopped by the following Tuesday night after 5. "Sorry, there's no manager available and the owner isn't here, but leave your number and someone will call you." Again, no call. So after 3 separate attempts to reach out to someone about what happened, my friend left a review here. (see: Paige B) I'm not writing this to rake Martha's over the coals over the actions of one aberrant employee. I'm writing this because of the difference between how the owner "handled" the incident online to save face and how he actually treated his former customers in real life. As soon as he noticed a negative Yelp review, the owner publicly replied to my friend, publicly apologized profusely, and publicly declared that he wanted to hear more about the incident and the employee responsible, only to treat us the exact opposite way in real life. My friend lives out of the state, so by the time the owner said he wanted to hear from her, I told her I'd stop by to describe the incident and the employee who called her an "ugly c***" to him. Tellingly, the owner left us no way of actually contacting him, so again I visited Martha's in person. This time the hostess let me know that the reason I can't talk to a manager is because there IS no manager. Wow! What a concept. I also got to see that the employee who stalked my friend along the sidewalk calling her an entitled bitch is back at work without any repercussions. The next day the owner finally called me, but I wasn't by my phone when he called. He left a voicemail saying he was sorry about what happened and to call him back. I called back 30 minutes later. "He's not here anymore, sorry, leave your number," Once again no one called back, but he's obviously a busy guy, and his voicemail did sound sincere. So I called the next day. "Yes, he actually is here, but he's in a meeting, if you leave your number I'll have him call you when he gets out" No call back. Two weeks or so later, annoyed that they gave me the runaround, I decide maybe the 7th time's the charm. I call Martha's, explain the situation, and I'm told that I'm actually speaking to the newly promoted manager. She even tells me that she was there that night, saw the employee screaming at my friend, and felt it was extremely inappropriate. Between that and the fact that the owner had specifically asked us to reach out to him, I fooled myself one more time into thinking someone at Martha's Exchange was going to take the actions of their employees seriously. She never called me back. It's clear to me now that my mistake was in conflating the "concerned family business owner William Fokas" who shows up in replies to negative Yelp reviews with the way customers should actually expect to be treated at Martha's Exchange. And again, this isn't that big of a deal. I've probably wasted about 2 hours of my life between trying to convince someone to care about what happened to my friend, being dragged along by the owner, and typing out this review. But I'll gladly spend that time before I let someone put on a concerned face to my friend publicly and disrespect her privately. read more

That response and apology appear to have been an attempt to save face on the internet. Sad! We gave up because we both have better things to do than try to track down the owner of this establishment and get ignored repeatedly, but seriously, DON'T GO HERE! Honestly, I really used to enjoy going out here from time to time, but I had an experience here the other night that was absolutely unforgivable and the way they treat their customers needs to be publicized. I was here with some friends because we were all home for the weekend (we graduated a few years back together and had fond memories of this place), and I was celebrating my birthday. At the end of the night, I was outside waiting for my ride and was (barely) leaning against the rock wall outside that I guess has some plants on it. All of a sudden, this bouncer comes out of nowhere and starts screaming in my ear, "get the f*** off that you entitled bitch", along with other curse words. Obviously not happy about that, I told him to leave me alone, which led to him calling me an "ugly f******* entitled c***". I don't care what a customer does, that is NEVER appropriate. I honestly apologize to them if me leaning against that rock wall was disrespectful, I can understand being upset over the appearance of a drunk customer disrespecting company property at 1 am. But that isn't what happened. I was maybe putting an inch of my body on the wall, not even close to sitting on the plants. My friend tried to diffuse the situation and he came after her in the same way, screaming at her using the most derogatory words you could use towards women, insulting both our intelligence and appearances. When I got home, I called them to just say what had happened, and the same guy picked up, saying "oh, you're the bitch that wouldn't listen", and hung up on me immediately. I realize this is anecdotal and maybe he was having a bad day and we can't judge people forever for how they act on a bad day. But this was completely inappropriate, and the inaction from Martha's says a lot about how much they respect people who are willing to give them their money. To anybody reading this, I realize I'm a random person on the internet, but if you have any doubts, do a simple Google search on the owners of this place and you'll get answers about why you shouldn't give them your business. It's sad -- used to really like this place. It can be fun and the venue is nice, but they seriously need a reality check when it comes to their customer service. read more

Went on Saturday for first time. Absolutely loved the nachos and the French onion Salmon was perfectly AMAZING!!! I didn't think I would finish the whole dish, but it was hard not to want keep savoring the deliciousness!!! And our server was such a sweetheart and so attentive. Really good experience. Pros: great place to sit outside (summertime) and have one of their onsite brewed beers. They also offer a flight of beers so one can try all the different kinds Cons: food is of average quality and the wait staff is sooooo slow and miserable that they desperately need an espresso enema to jolt their decaying brains read more

3 reasons I won't be exchanging anything at Martha's: 1) The Beer. It's a brewery but the beer is not good. Flat, sour and watery. If I feel the need to order a cocktail in a brewery, you probably haven't done your job. 2) The Food. Take it or leave it. There's nothing horrible about the food, but there's nothing exciting going on here either. 3) The Scene. It's not uncommon to walk by Martha's on a Saturday night and see half-naked drunk girls practically falling out of the door, and men that are way too old for them (and probably married) attempting to dance with them. I've reviewed this place at least twice before and wound up in the bozo bin (they used to call them "filtered reviews" now they call them "not recommended reviews") so we'll see if the third time is the charm. Since I've lived in Nashua 10 years and have been coming here for 18 years I think I can review it. I come here for the beer. It's a little warm for my tastes and is frequently served in embarrassing looking glasses (anything that doesn't look like a pint glass like Andy Capp used to hold) but is usually very tasty and very reasonably priced. I once had a MAJOR issue with the service (I have poured my own beer here, from behind the bar, for want of a competent barmaid) but that was years ago. The service is MUCH better these days. The food is mediocre. Period. It's a brew pub with aspirations. It's a great place to people watch - the entire front wall is made of glass. You can sit outside in the summer in the afternoon shade. Watch the police go up and down Main street!! There is a great chocolate shop so that after you have had your fill of beer your sweetie (or kid) can have their fill of something more to THEIR taste. The most amusing thing to do is go for dinner on Saturday and wait around until it becomes a dance club. The music is something you'd hear in a Bangkok go-go: generic thump-thump.
