Between the amplified music, announcements, and crowd participation, it was difficult to have a normal conversation at our table. For diners looking for a quieter meal, it's worth knowing that Wednesday nights may not be the best time to visit. The service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, and most of the food was good. We ordered the Caprese Salad, Chicken Bacon Ranch Flatbread, Grilled Chicken Pesto, and a Mango Poke Bowl. I understand there was a recent menu change, which is why my daughter decided to try the poke bowl. Unfortunately, while the ingredients seemed fresh, she felt the sauce didn't complement the dish well and threw off the overall flavor. Given the $26 price tag, that was disappointing. The pricing was another area that stood out. Most of the menu is on the higher end of casual dining, but what really caught my attention was the $5.99 charge for a bottle of San Pellegrino. Restaurant markups are expected, but nearly six dollars for bottled sparkling water felt excessive. Overall, Dreo has friendly service and some solid food options, but the combination of premium pricing, the disappointing poke bowl, and the very loud trivia-night atmosphere made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. I would consider returning on a quieter night, but I think customers should be made more aware of how loud trivia nights can be before being seated.

I've been wanting to try all the heavy hitters of the New Hampshire pizza scene for awhile, but they all like to be in a tight pocket in Derry/Salem, and I flat out just don't come down here. Sure enough, duty called and I was a stone's throw away so got my favorite style of pizza here, the White. If I could describe this in one word, it would be Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum with exactly that many Us. Amazing cheese, life-altering roasted garlic oil, great chewy and crispy dough. If I lived nearby, they'd have to add a new category on the BMI after Morbidly Obese called Ricotta Body. Definitely give this place a try if you're into pizza that makes you question every pizza you've ever eaten prior to this.

The truffle fries were good (we really enjoyed the garlic aoli) and they came in a cute fry box on a plate. The calamari was fantastic. It also came with fried jalapenos mixed in. I did not see note of that on the menu, so for any allergies I would note that. However, that little spice mixed with the honey they had made for a great bite and we would order this again. No olive oil-infused vodka. No prosciutto & Gorgonzola stuffed olives. Poorly balanced and badly mixed. If you're someone who actually enjoys martinis, you know immediately when the person behind the bar has no idea how to make one. This bartender may be handsome, but the lights were on and nobody was home. He lacked both the personality and the skill to be working behind a cocktail bar. We also ordered the wagyu dumplings. Calling the filling "wagyu" felt generous--it tasted like ordinary ground beef. Any flavor the meat might have had was completely buried under an overly sweet sauce. The wagyu certainly wasn't the star of the dish. Overall, I left more annoyed than impressed. The hosts were fantastic, but the bar experience completely overshadowed the evening. I'll probably give the place another chance because first impressions aren't always the whole story--but I'll absolutely make sure I'm sitting with a different bartender next time.

Despite all that, I can tell you upfront that our experience was more or less sublime. Naturally, there was one setback in particular that I just can't ignore (which we'll cover later). First, the good.. Clam chowder: Now, this was a March special. So, it's not on the regular menu, far as I can tell. But let me just say...this is by FAR some of the best damn chowder I've had in a restaurant! Granted, we're in New England. So, I'd expect nothing less. Just the same, it's worth mentioning. This chowder was perfectly seasoned to the point of not needing anything additional. And it had ALL the clams! SO many clams!! 10 out of 10, they really need to make this one more often! Queso dip: Again, we have a cheese sauce that's beautifully seasoned and creamy as all get out. One thing that perplexed us was the meat (or lack there of). We thought it would consist of larger chunks, but it was minced. Odd. I also would have enjoyed this one a lot more if the chips weren't so heavily salted. 8 out of 10, the cheese sauce is like liquid gold. Tavern burger: One thing I noticed both here and at the Derry location - not one person had taken a photo of the burgers. Like....ANY of them. So, I'm a guy who likes to view what he's about to get into. Far as first impressions go, this burger looked delectable! I'm talkin' the perfect charred sear, temperature nailed, cheese beautifully melted over top. Not to mention the kaiser rolls they used were brilliantly crisp on the outside, with a soft interior. Thing is....this burger would have been damn near perfect, if not for one thing: it was under seasoned. Quite weird, considering the hand cut fries were well seasoned. 9 out of 10, I'd still get this again and just sprinkle salt on the bottom or something. And for those wondering, wifey enjoyed her salmon salad also. Now then, I came across something peculiar when we first entered the place. When I went to utilize the facilities, one of the restrooms was allegedly closed for maintenance reasons. I say "allegedly" because, turns out....that was only HALF true. You see, their sink was broken. Okay. Fine. Whatever. It would have been helpful if they, ya know....mentioned the sink was broken as opposed to letting everyone THINK the restroom itself was ostensibly closed (as per the sign on the door). The whole thing was misleading and, quite frankly, unnecessary. Felt like a damn goober standing there in front of an almost perfectly functioning restroom. Btw, yes....they had hand sanitizer at the ready to accommodate the lack of sink in one bathroom. Anyway, service was excellent. Just a note though: it's loud as hell in here as you can very well imagine a bar & grill would be. But I weathered the storm easily thanks to my Loop Earplugs (no, that's not a plug. I swear!). So, yeah....overall, not that bad. No where near as bad as some folks suggested. Perhaps that was a different time. In any event, we shall return for future date nights. Till then, Friendly Red's Tavern in Windham is worth 4 bad ass burgers charred to utter perfection out of 5.
